The first stage of the tournament was a best of 3 series and the participating teams were 4th place, Samsung, and 5th place, Afreeca Freecs, during the 2016 LCK Summer Split. Afreeca Freecs were an often underestimated team but as they were able to take down a few of the stronger performing teams over the split they were a constant threat. Samsung didn’t back down during the series and often pressured which left Afreeca Freecs with few options after the earlier stages of the game, this is how Samsung took the 1st game of the series and quickly followed by dominating a large portion of the 2nd game before taking away the win.
