What is the Dota Pro Circuit?

Let’s start off with the obvious – what is the Dota Pro Circuit?

Based on Dota 2, the Dota Pro Circuit is basically the bread and butter of the game’s esports ecosystem. It lasts for months on end and acts as the main method of qualifying for The International, year in and year out.

Throughout these last couple of years, we’ve seen lots of turbulence in terms of DPC schedule and format. These days, the format is a bit different than what Dota 2 esports veterans might be used to. No worries though, we’ll explain everything later on.

For now, let’s focus on the following three segments:

  • DPC Regions
  • DPC Format
  • DPC Prize Pool

Regions

The Dota Pro Circuit has six regional leagues which isn’t that surprising considering the game is popular across numerous countries worldwide. These regional leagues gather all the hottest prospects and pin them against each other. Each region has a different event organizer. They are as follows:

  • Western Europe (WEU) – DreamHack
  • Eastern Europe (EEU) – Epic Esports Events
  • CN (China) – Perfect World
  • SEA (Southeast Asia) – Beyond The Summit
  • NA (North America) – ESL
  • SA (South America) – 4D Esports

Format

This season of Dota Pro Circuit will encompass three separate tours. That’s basically the only difference when compared to the last season which had just two. Each tour was supposed to be crowned with a DPC Major, but unfortunately the first one had to be canceled. Now we’re left with just two, but that will be enough considering the introduction of Regional Finals following the end of the first tour.

Like we’ve mentioned earlier, the DPC has six regional leagues and they’ll all have three tours this season. Additionally, all of them have two separate divisions too.

As you’d expect, the Majors will award the biggest share of DPC points, which are necessary for qualifying for The International later this year.

Prize Pool

Now let’s cover some of the main points regarding the Dota Pro Circuit prize pool!

As mentioned earlier, DPC has six distinctive regions, and each of them has a total prize pool of $280,000. Mind you, this sum reflects just one tour. Since this season of DPC has three tours in total, it means that every region has $840,000 in total prize money.

Each region has two divisions – $205,000 goes to the first division, and the remaining $75,000 (per tour) goes to the second division.

Here’s the prize pool distribution for both divisions:

Place Division 1 Prizes Division 2 Prizes
1st $30,000 $17,000
2nd $28,000 $16,000
3rd $27,000 $15,000
4th $26,000 $11,000
5th $25,000 $9,000
6th $24,000 $7,000
7th $23,000 N/A
8th $22,000 N/A

As for the Majors, each has $500,000 in prize money and grants 4570 DPC points in total.

Here’s the prize pool distribution for DPC Majors:

  • 1st place – $200,000 and 820 DPC pts
  • 2nd place – $100,000 and 740 DPC pts
  • 3rd place – $75,000 and 670 DPC pts
  • 4th place –  $50,000 and 590 DPC pts
  • 5th and 6th place – $25,000 and 515 DPC pts
  • 7th and 8th place – $12,500 and 360 DPC pts
  • 9th to 16th place – N/A

Which Teams are Taking Part in Dota Pro Circuit 2022?

There are six regional leagues and two separate divisions in each, meaning there’s way too many DPC teams to list here. Instead, here are the twenty most notable specimens:

Are there any other forms of Dota Pro Circuit betting available?

Yes, there are! You can also bet on DPC using your skins. However, that’s not 100% legal and is likely to get you in trouble, which is why it’s for the best to stick with licensed and regulated bookmakers.

DPC Schedule

As mentioned earlier, this season of Dota Pro Circuit will feature not two but three tours in total. Two tours are already behind us, with the third one scheduled to start on June 6th and last through July 17th. Prior to the third tour, we’ll have another set of open qualifiers to fill in open Division Two slots.

Once again, the first DPC Major of 2022 had to be canceled. The second one, ESL One Stockholm is scheduled for May 12th through May 22nd, with the third one scheduled for August 4th through 14th. If you’re interested in Dota Pro Circuit betting action, you ought to mark these dates down in your calendar.

Where to Watch DPC?

You can watch Dota Pro Circuit content on Twitch and YouTube. The streams depend on the event organizers; there are no strict rules in this department. We’re talking about BTS, ESL, and DreamHack channels, among many others.

Dota Pro Circuit Betting FAQs

In Dota 2 jargon, DPC stands for Dota Pro Circuit, the game’s competitive format.

It’s difficult to say. Dota Pro Circuit, as the game’s main competitive format, lasts for several months and is basically the method of qualifying for The Internationals. And while Tis are generally much more popular and lucrative, we can’t take the importance of Dota Pro Circuits for granted. So yeah, I guess at the end of the day, it’s a tie.

It depends on which type of DPC betting are you interested in. If you’re interested in skin gambling sites, I’m afraid what you’re doing is either completely illegal or somewhere in the gray area. If you’re looking for nothing but 100% legal online betting, then you should look for a licensed online sportsbook. Nowadays, the vast majority of online sportsbooks offer esports bets, meaning DPC betting lines will probably be available as well.

Unfortunately, there’s no clear answer to that question. Length-wise, Dota Pro Circuit betting action lasts for much longer than that of The International. However, TI events have much higher viewership in a much denser timeframe. Which of them is more popular, though? I’m afraid it’s impossible to say with enough certainty.

There are lots of ways you can partake in Dota 2 betting action. The easiest way, and the only legit one, is to find a licensed online bookmaker and start from there. You’ll need to deposit some money using your card or one of numerous supported payment methods. Afterward, you’re free to invest that money into pretty much any Dota Pro Circuit betting lines that seem interesting.
