What Is Wild Rift?

You’ve probably heard of the multiplayer online battle arena game, League of Legends, Wild Rift can be described as the mobile version of this popular PC game.

Following LoL’s resounding success with players from all corners of the world, the brains behind the title; Riot Games, decided to go ahead and develop a mobile version of that game for Android and iOS devices.

Both League of Legends and Wild Rift now feature on multiple esports betting sites, with different odds available.

How Wild Rift Works

Players must control a “champion” – one of multiple characters with rare abilities, to go to battle against an opposing team of players, with the primary aim of obliterating their Nexus. Every champion usually starts off weak but develops improved performance over the course of the game as they collect items and experiences that increase their strength and stamina.

There are a total of 10 ranks, or levels, that players can achieve, with each one unlocking different Season Rewards. You can rank up by winning games and making your way through the multiple divisions, earning Ranked Marks or Victory Points as you go along. The Wild Rift version also allows players to earn Ranked Fortitude status which can act as a safety net by preventing losses.

History of Wild Rift

After outright refusing to develop a mobile version of League of Legends for parent company Tencent, back in 2015, Riot Games eventually came around to the possibility that the game could be just as successful on mobile platforms. This came after a massive dispute between Tencent and Riot Games, since the former made use of celebrity LoL gamers to promote their own mobile MOBA, Arena of Valor. Announcements for the release of Wild Rift came just in time for the 10th anniversary of League of Legends in 2019.

The Best Wild Rift esports Teams

The success of League of Legends Wild Rift with mobile gamers has led to many renowned esports teams throwing their hat into the ring and participating in the numerous Wild Rift tournaments which have already been held since the game’s launch. Check out a few of the top Wild Rift esports teams currently slaying it in the arena.

EVOS Esports

Also known as Zero Latitude, EVOS Esports is one of Indonesia’s top pro esports organizations. The team competed in the LoL Vietnam Championship Series for the first time in 2020, going on to become VCS champions. The White Tigers, as they’re referred to by fans, also won the 2021 Wild Rift Summer Super Cup from the SEA Icon Series.

Smart Omega

The Filippino esports organization announced their team for Wild Rift in January 2021, featuring a strong squad of LoL and MOBA pros, such as Ronel “Stronger” Tan, Jaiby ” JLC” Paglingayen and Maynard “Arise” Limon. The team finished in first place in the PPGL 2021 Summer Split: Luzon South Regionals and came in third in the 2021 Wild Rift PHL ICON series.

Team Secret

Renowned as one of Europe’s top esports organizations, their Wild Rift division was welcomed into the Philippines gaming community with open arms in December 2020. Team Secret has been working on recruiting the best esports talent in the region to build a truly Champion team. They have since finished in 5th to 8th place in the SEA Icon Series 2021: Summer Super Cup.

First Blood

The first blood (or first kill) in esports games is quite a significant occurrence, which is why there’s even a bet type named after it. It provides both a gold lead and an experience lead to the winning team early on in the game and can be a significant advantage.

Team To Slay The first Dragon

Dragons, also known as drakes, can be found lurking in every corner of the jungle in Wild Rift. So, it’s no surprise that killing the first one off is an essential power boost that’s needed for any team wanting to get ahead.

Team To Slay The First Baron

The Baron in Wild Rift is probably one of the most powerful creatures in the entire game, which is why the team to kill it first will definitely get the upper hand. In fact, they’ll be granted the ‘Hand of Baron’, which includes both bonus ability power as well as bonus attack damage for 210 seconds.

Team To Destroy The First Inhibitor

Each team has 3 inhibitors and these don’t come into play until quite late in the game, just before reaching the Nexus. If your team manages to take them down, the super minions will be able to stampede the lanes and very likely to secure a win in your favour.

Race To 5 Kills

Gaining the most kills in any Wild Rift match is key to keeping your enemies at bay and be highly satisfying to experience. This is precisely why it’s such a popular esports bet for so many fans of the game. Killing 5 champions would mean killing off the entire team. This bet type also creates more widespread odds.

Map Winner

Wild Rift makes use of quite a few maps, including LoL’s popular Summoner’s Rift setting. When a team wins any of the maps, this can highly influence the outcome of the game, which is why correctly predicting which team member will win which map can rake in a lot of profit.

Round Winner

While this betting market is slightly more complicated than the match winner, it’s quite a popular bet to make during live esports betting since you can tell how teams are faring before making any wagers.

Tournament Winner

You can also bet on the team who you think will win the tournament. There are multiple factors that could affect the final outcome. For example a team can lose players because of sickness, or withdraw from the tournament, so be sure to do your research before placing your wager.

Despite its tender beginnings, the first Wild Rift esports tournaments have already started taking off. Here are just a few of the top tournaments that have taken place so far, following the mobile game’s release.

Wild Rift Rivals: LCK vs LPL

Taking place online for retired LoL professionals in Korea and China, the Wild Rift Rivals tournament will be split into two stages, featuring both Legend Matches as well as Main Events, with three rounds leading to the final. LCK and LPL are two of the biggest esports leagues for LoL, so there’s a massive Wild Rift esports prize pool riding on this one.

Summoner Series 2021

Organised for the first time ever for Wild Rift esports teams in North America, the Summoner Series was launched by Nerd Street Gamers and Wisdom Gaming. This marks the organizers’ first foray into mobile gaming, the championship will include 3 circuits with qualifiers and majors. 8 teams will have to battle it out in the Majors to reach the Finals which will take place later this year.

Wild Rift Origin Series

Showcasing the top 16 Wild Rift esports teams in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, this international tournament is being held monthly. The first 2 installments were held in June and July 2021 but only the 6 most successful teams will be invited to the offline Finals at the end of 2021.

SEA Icon Series 2021 Summer

The SEA Icon Series was organized by LoL developer Riot Games, featuring the top 16 teams in Southeast Asia and surrounding regions. ONE Team took the first place prize in the Super Cup, followed by Flash Wolves and ahq e-Sports Club. This tournament marked the first major Wild Rift esports event, with over 800 teams registering to get in on the action.

Twitch Rivals Mobile Showdown ft. Wild Rift Showdown

This is the second time Wild Rift came to Twitch Rivals after a highly successful first tournament in October 2020. This time round, Twitch has announced that it will select less competitive streamers and focus more on the entertaining feature of the MOBA. The tournament lasted around 6 hours, with 4 teams in total and a prize pool of $30 000.

Tournament Date Prize Pool
Wild Rift Rivals: LCK vs LPL 11.08.21 – 14.08.21 $85 963
Summoner Series 2021 Major 1 07.08.21 – 09.08.21 $10 000

  1. Play Wild Rift for yourself to better understand gameplay, rules and the general feel of the game.
  2. Sign up for an account at one of our recommended Wild Rift betting sites above.
  3. Learn more about the participating teams, players and tournaments coming up.
  4. Research relevant statistics and prior form and use this information to make your picks.
  5. Evaluate the odds and place your bets accordingly.

When it comes to betting on Wild Rift, finding an esports bookmaker that offers favourable odds is essential. Odds can differ greatly from one operator to another, so it’s best to do your research and shop around before settling on the right esports betting site for you.

Wild Rift Betting VS League of Legends

Although we’ve mentioned that Wild Rift is the mobile equivalent of LoL, there are some significant differences between the two that could affect your betting. For starters, players have fewer Champions to choose from, with only around 60+ available and some of them also have adjusted toolkits to fit better with mobile, touch-friendly formats. This is also the reason for more compact maps thanks to the removal of Nexus Turrets, leading to more fast-paced mobile gameplay. While some Items and Runes become more straightforward in Wild Rift, queueing becomes more dangerous since players will be made to queue up randomly.
