VCT Game Changers Betting Tips
VCT Game Changers is a tournament series where women and marginalized genders are free to compete at the highest tiers of esports. Female esports has long been a controversial topic within the scene so with Riot’s support, they hope to break the barriers of play between genders and hopefully welcome talent that can compete in Champions. Take these reminders in mind when betting on this up-and-coming tournament series that only has room to grow in the coming future.
Choosing a Region
As of right now, Game Changers has competition all the way from North America, Brazil, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). Each of these regions have their own tournament series (with their own tournament format) in collaboration with Riot Games.
In North America, you have the VCT 2021: Game Changes North America Series and the almost-monthly Academy tournaments. If you come to Brazil, they have a host of tournaments held by a multitude of organizers all the way from Protocolo: Gêneses, to Girl Power, and Esportsmaker Spike Ladies. Meanwhile In Southeast Asia and Latin America, they have a one-all be-all tournament series that spans across months which is the FSL VALORANT Circuit 2021 and Radiant Energy Series, respectively. Lastly, Riot just announced the EMEA’s monthly Game Changers Series which is akin to North America’s own starting in late September.

With all these tournaments happening across the year, it can be easy to get lost on which team and region to follow as VALORANT continues to grow. Furthermore, since a majority of these tournaments are held with open qualifiers just as VCT’s own Challengers series, following a team to back can get complicated in the long run. As such, we advise you to bet on a region that you can follow. Whether it’s because you genuinely enjoy their play or because it fits your timezone, choose a region that you can keep an eye on over the long run.
Look to the Past
Try as Riot might, the VCT Game Changers series is still an up-and-coming innovation that has yet to reach its fullest potential. As such, the competition is still relatively new and only has a handful of talents settled into the scene. Take for example North America’s Series 1 and Series 2 Champions, Cloud9 White. From March to June, they held the championship title for Game Changers and across their wins, it was Melanie “meL” Capone who was their team’s rock. Thus, you can expect that Cloud9 White and meL will continue to be a force to be reckoned with in Game Changers North America Series 3 this September 30, 2021.
However, don’t just assume that the status quo will forever be maintained. As another example, Counter Logic Gaming Red have always been a step behind C9 White losing to them time and again in the Finals. But after Series 2, the team has decided to part ways with Evalynn “ChoboMe” Chiu and Naomi “Naomi” Sauvola which is bound to drastically change the dynamics of the team coming into their next tournament. The team hasn’t even found players to sign after losing these two key players.
Moving over to the East, we can see how competition in Southeast Asia has driven teams to improve or get left behind in the process. With the amount of competition in the FSL VALORANT Circuit 2021, teams have had ample time to practice and improve their form over the course of the year. One such example would be Alter Ego Celestè which consistently placed first across six opens in the past year. Behind them would be the Philippines’ Galaxy Racer Female which placed high enough to qualify with enough circuit points. Now, coming into the highly-awaited FSL Elite on October 23, we all know who is the team to beat in the Southeast Asian tournament.
Adapt or Get Left Behind
In a competitive environment as young as Game Changers, it can be easy for dynasties to come and go. Whether it’s the short-lived dominance of Team SoloMid and G2 Esports in the early days of VALORANT, you can see how up-and-comers can pull the rug from under and disrupt the competition.
We can see this come up in Brazil where Gamelanders Purple used to be the kings of the neighborhood winning back-to-back tournaments in Sakuras Ascent, Girl Power, Protocolo: Gêneses, and Rivals Women’s Cup. They were the team to beat until the B4 Angels arrived in July. Despite staying together as a team all this time, Gamelanders Purple’s formula failed them in Esportsmaker Spike Ladies where they couldn’t even make the finals. The same happened a month after in Girls On Fire where they fell once again to Havan Liberty Female, who lost at the hands of B4 Angels in the Grand Finals. With the awaited Protocolo: Evolução coming in November, Brazil is at a time of transition where the best female team in the region is yet to be decided.
Although it’s yet to be seen whether B4 Angels will continue their streak into Evolução, it’s painfully clear that whoever will adapt among these teams will be the one to take the throne.
Popular Bets for VCT 2021: Stage 3 Masters – Berlin
In Masters Berlin, moneyline bets are as easy as it gets. Since all matches are held in best-of-threes, simply predict which team gets to two map wins first and voilà. This is the perfect type of bet for those just starting to get into VALORANT. As it is in business, predicting an upset would mean a greater reward for the greater risk that you put into your bet. As such, doing your research early on could net you good gains to take home!
Total betting is the next step for those who want to up their game. It works in the same way as over/under betting where you predict if the game will go over or under a score or metric. In VALORANT, total betting refers to predicting one of two things. Either if a series will go over or under a certain number of games or if the game at hand will reach over or under a certain number of rounds.
It can be useful to look at stat platforms that we mentioned earlier on (such as THESPIKE.GG) to see the patterns in a team’s playstyle. In the North America Series 2 Playoffs, a team like Cloud9 White averaged an outstanding 19.11 rounds in wins. Meanwhile their rival, CLG Red, won on average with 20.22 rounds and lost in close 22.4 rounds. Likewise, you can do the same for maps won to see whether teams like to play it close (2-1) or close out series cleanly in one fell swoop. These are good metrics to set a baseline on if you want to proceed with total betting.
As its name suggests, handicap betting puts a handicap in the favour of the match by requiring them to win by a set margin for it to be considered a win. Just as in total betting, you can place handicap bets for maps and rounds as well. Handicap bets are easier explained by example.
For instance, a +1.5 map handicap for a best-of-three series means that the team you’re betting on only needs to win one (1) game to secure your payout. On the other hand, a -1.5 map handicap means that they need to win in a straight 2-0. This puts the burden on the stronger team to win convincingly when compared to the +1.5 map handicap which doesn’t require the team you’re betting on to win the series.
Round handicaps work in the same way but work towards 13 (the number of rounds it takes to win a VALORANT game). For example, you want to place a -4.5 round handicap on Cloud9 White against Counter Logic Gaming Red. That means that they need to win with a score of 13-8 at the maximum to be considered a win. Meanwhile, a +4.5 round handicap means that the team only needs to reach 9 round wins in order to reach the threshold to win.

Lastly, we have propositional betting which is one of the more difficult betting formats. In VALORANT, there are occurrences in-game that do not necessarily decide the game such as first bloods, the outcome of pistol rounds, overtime, and so much more. Through prop bets, you can put your game knowledge to the test and try to guess what will exactly go on in-game.
Be wary because this kind of betting needs a lot of research, but of course, has a higher payoff. Predicting who will first plant the spike, if a player will be able to ace the opposing team, or even a team ace are among the few ways you can place prop bets as of right now. Though you won’t always be able to find these bets up and running, it can be fun to test your hand at them when you do get the chance!

Tournament Structure for VCT Game Changers
Although it generally depends on the region and tournament organizer involved, you can see a trend that puts a majority of VCT Game Changers in Double Elimination formats that gives teams a second chance to prove themselves on the stage. But before teams get there, they usually have to brave through 128-team brackets in Open Qualifiers to see which teams are worth their mettle in the tournament proper.

History of the VCT Game Changers
VALORANT was released on June 2, 2020 and burst onto the scene being hailed as the next billion-dollar esports franchise. As Whalen “Magus” Rozelle, Senior Director of Esports, announced, Game Changers is about cultivating a community for those who want to play VALORANT at the grassroots, semi-pro, and professional level.
