Tournament mode – Schedule overview Rift Rivals 2017
The tournament format of the renewed Battle of the Atlantic is clearly distinguishable compared to other international competitions. Generally the tournament will be divided into a group stage and a playoff stage, though no teams of the same region will compete against each other.
At the beginning of the tournament the six participating teams will face each other in the group stage. Therefore each team of a separate region will face the three enemy teams of the refined region two times, e.g. G2 Esports will play against Team SoloMid, Cloud9 and Phoenix1 twice. There will be no duels between teams of the same region. The great goal of the group stage is to determinate the ranking of the teams for each region. All matches will be played in best-of-1 format.
The final stage of the tournament features the clash of the two best teams of each region. The victorious squad will then crown its home region champion of the tournament. Therefore the playoff stage of the event can last between three and five matches. Of course all regional fans will root for their own team!
