Week 2 – NA LCS Summer Split 2018

Unexpected roster changes, big drama and crazy gameplay – the North American LCS Season 8 is a rollercoster at the moment and Week 2 of the 2018 Summer Split will continue this trend. There are unbelievable picks and a variety of viable champions the moment, the stale meta-game has been broken and most crit-based AD carries can only be found in history books nowadays. Furthermore, the apportionment of toplane, jungle, midlane and AD carry with support has slightly fallen and teams like Echo Fox are putting their players in unusual positions. Especially the undervalued champion Heimerdinger holds a victory rate of 100% at the moment, unimaginable in former seasons. While unexpected roster swaps lead to contrarity in the Cloud9 fanbase, Echo Fox and Team SoloMid were already able to assert themselves at the top of the standings. For all League of Legends fans, of course, these crazy games are extremely entertaining. Maybe the the meta game will calm down a bit before the 2018 League of Legends World Championship but until then we can still enjoy these thrilling duels on Summoner's Rift. Week 2 of the NA LCS Summer Split starts on June 23rd at 11:00 PM CEST with the clash between Counter Logic Gaming and Team Liquid, so don't forget to turn in for more exciting action on Summoner's Rift.

NA LCS Summer 2018 Week 2 CLG vs TL

Match #1: Counter Logic Gaming League of Legends LoL Team Logo Counter Logic Gaming vs. Team Liquid Team Liquid League of Legends LoL Team Logo

June 23rd, 02:00 PM PT / 05:00 PM ET / 23:00 CEST

Counter Logic Gaming meets Team Liquid at the first game of LCS Week 2 and both teams have won one match in Week 1!

In the start of the split Team Liquid proved its true class. With the conventional Bot-Lane TL-Doublelift (Xayah) and TL-Olleh (Rakan) it was able to dominate against the “patch-bot” 100-Vladimir, 100-Leona on the opponent side. But also the meta-play of the team was excellent, until minute 20 the gold equilibrium was kept and TL simply sat out the early ap-pressure of the opponents. From minute 20 on, the hour of ADC´s has come and Xayah won all fights with Teamfight DPS-Spikes. For the game against CLG this means a solid bot lane and a well-trained team on side of Team Liquid.

Counter Logic Gaming lost its season opener against Team Solo Mid. After an initial gold dominance of 5k, the team could not make any progress against the walling opponents and had to give the Baron to TSM twice.

Saturday's game will definitely be one at eye level, but I still see Counter Logic Gaming just ahead. I'm predicting on a 1-0 win for Counter Logic Gaming.

Who is going to win?

NA LCS Summer 2018 Week 2 TSM vs CG

Match #2: Team SoloMid League of Legends LoL Team Logo Team Solo Mid vs. Clutch Gaming  Clutch Gaming League of Legends LoL Team Logo

June 23rd, 03:00 PM PT / 06:00 PM ET / 00:00 CEST (the next day)

In game 2 of the first day of week 2 Team Solo Mid encounters Clutch Gaming. Both teams have won their split opening games.

Team Solo Mid had to clench their teeth in their first game against CLG and faced with Aatrox, Brolaf, Irelia, Kaisa and Alistar against a DMG-wall from Orrn, Graves, Renekton, Ezrael and Braum. The first 30 minutes the game belonged almost completely to CLG and TSM could not even cross his jungle without punishment. But the team around coach Parth “Parth” Naidu has proven his sense for meta-play and has not given up. At minute 26, TSM managed to grab the Baron and thus secured their game.  Later in minute 36 TSM conquered the second baron and started to raise in the gold-lead. The second game against Fly Quest ended also positive for the NA Bulli TSM.

Clutch Gaming had a tough draw in week 1 and although they won their opening game against Cloud9. Clutch Gaming showed a variable performance in week 1 and just lacked the confidence to call “plays” against the two “high-roler” Fox and C9.

I think that clutch gaming would have a real chance if it dared to use its chances. With the current defensive tactics of the team, however, the decision is clear. So I'm guessing on a 1-0 victory for Team Solo Mid.

NA LCS Summer 2018 Week 2 OPT vs EF

Match #3: OpTic Gaming League of Legends LoL Team Logo Optic Gaming vs. Echo Fox Echo Fox League of Legends LoL Team Logo

June 23rd, 04:00 PM PT / 07:00 PM ET / 01:00 CEST (the next day)

In Game 3 of Week 2, Optic Gaming encounters Echo Fox. Fox also got a good start in the split and scored 2 points. The team is in top form and will go fa (speaken of standings) in its current condition. Echo Fox has done the strongest implementation of the new patch contents in North America for me and I am also looking forward to many new innovative team compositions especially for week 2, where they will meet Optic on day 1 and GGS on day 2. I therefore expect a clear 0:1 victory for Echo Fox.

NA LCS Summer 2018 Week 2 100 vs FQ

Match #4: 100 Thieves League of Legends LoL Team Logo 100 Thieves vs. Fly Quest FlyQuest League of Legends LoL Team Logo

June 23rd, 05:00 PM PT / 08:00 PM ET / 02:00 CEST (the next day)

100 Thieves encounters Fly Quest. Who still remembers the Spring Split knows that the 100 thieves have made a better start. The Team left the stage twice without victory and meets their also winless partner Fly Quest. Both teams can't hold their own against the North America favourites in their current condition and urgently need to rethink their meta-game. It will be the lead and one is to be able to win. Again, I have a hard time deciding who will win, but I still see the 100 Thieves just in front. It will be a close victory for 100 Thieves.

NA LCS Summer 2018 Week 2 GGS vs C9

Match #5: Golden Guardians League of Legends LoL Team Logo Golden Guardians vs. Cloud 9 Cloud9 League of Legends LoL Team Logo

June 23rd, 06:00 PM PT / 09:00 PM ET / 03:00 CEST (the next day)

The Golden Guardians will play against Cloud 9 in the last game of day 1, but the Golden Guardians are holding their ground in the splits, even though they finished at the bottom of the table in spring split, with only 12 points. Last week was once again this “golden moment” when they beat Team Liquid. Cloud9 has not shine so far, as the team has shown variable bad performance in the first week. So yes! – I expect a narrow 1-0 victory for the Golden Guardians.

NA LCS Summer 2018 Week 2 FLY vs OPTMatch #1: FlyQuest League of Legends LoL Team Logo FlyQuest vs. Optic GamingOpTic Gaming League of Legends LoL Team Logo

June 24th, 12:00 PM PT / 03:00 PM ET / 21:00 CEST

Fly Quest encounters Optic Gaming. Both teams have not convinced me very much in their performance so far.

Optic Gaming achieved a win against the guys from Golden Guardians in week 1. However, it is impossible to say that the outcome could have been foreseen. GGs had the lead again and again, until Optic could make the bag after the baron in minute 29 and extend the lead too much with a power play. In the match against FlyQuest we will hopefully see another outstanding OPT-PowerOfEvil. The LCS-NA star from germany had dominated the middle-lane against the meta-pick GGS-Lulu on OPT-Viktor right from the start. Already in minute 6:50 OPT-PowerofEvil could secure “First Blood”, then in minute 15 first tower and in evolution we became to hear the name again and again from the analyst desk. One Strong-Lane is often a strength but also a weakness and FlyQuest will be well advised to camp the middle-lane, same as the anti-Fnatic tactic.
We will see if OPT remains true to the conventional line-up or this time tries something new in 8.11 manner. Already in the split opening game the team went the safe way with the OPT-Xayah and OPT-Lulu Bot-Lane.

FlyQuest didn't impress me much yet and we will see how much the trainer used the week to adjust to OPT. Since the match is more likely to be won on day 2 than on day 1 against 100 Thieves, we will definitely see a tense game.

Both teams have the chance to win. But I currently see OPT with its boring but well-rehearsed conventional Bot-Lane as an advantage. So I'm betting on 0:1 for Optic Gaming.

NA LCS Summer 2018 Week 2 C9 vs 100

Match #2: Cloud9 League of Legends LoL Team Logo Cloud 9 vs. 100 Thieves 100 Thieves League of Legends LoL Team Logo

June 24th, 01:00 PM PT / 04:00 PM ET / 22:00 CEST

In week two, day two, Cloud Nine encounters 100 Thieves. The 100 victorless so far will certainly leave no stone unturned to make up for points here.

Why did the 100 Thieves have such a hard start into the split. The team certainly had a tough start against TL and CLG, but the mistakes were also home-made. Apart from the match-up, the personal performance of 100-Meteos (Day 1: Camille, Day 2: Trundle) must also be criticized. 100-Meteos hasn't really found its way into the fast-paced game yet and has too little of the meta-game in front of its eyes. Now we can only speculate what the trainer's tactics are. In my eyes the jungler intervenes too late, and does not react to the 2x very aggressive junglers of the opponents. Imagine the 0/4/1 100 meteo cammile being flamed with 40 more farm than the opposing 2/0/7 Jungler. At 100 the reserve jungler Levi (Duy Khanh Do) is still sitting on the bench and could step in if necessary. Anyway, something has to happen at 100, but don't get me wrong now, I don't think it's personal bad performance from the jungler, Meteos will certainly have his trainer's strategy instruction. Still, looking back at the last games (also) in the Spring Split we have already reached a “Loosing-Streak” of 6 games.

Cloud 9 has delivered twice better performance here. The C9-(Keith)-Brand and C9-(Zeyzal)-Nautilus Bot against CG-Vladimir and CG-Morgana did not work out against clutch gaming. Anyway, you can see many ADC´s times the joy of playing an AP Champs.

Despite the beginning of pity, one must realistically set one's expectations here. Cloud 9 is clearly ahead and 100 Thieves would do well to reconsider the roster in case of permanent fails from the jungle. It's gonna be a 1-0 win for Cloud 9.

Who is going to win?

NA LCS Summer 2018 Week 2 TL vs TSMMatch #3: Team Liquid League of Legends LoL Team Logo Team Liquid vs. Team Solo Mid Team SoloMid League of Legends LoL Team Logo

June 24th, 02:00 PM PT / 05:00 PM ET / 23:00 CEST

The top game of the day Team Liquid encounters Team Solo Mid. One can only guess who will win here and the anger of the die-hard TSM fans is already certain to me. That much I can tell you, TSM will come back to the top, but the “crazy” club has a hard time with such drastic patch changes. After two top performances by TSM-Zven and TSM-Mithy on Kai´sa and Alistar, Varus and Tahm I now expect a real change from the club after 8.11. I'm sorry, but I see a 1:0 for Team Liquid on day 2.

NA LCS Summer 2018 Week 2 CG vs CLG

Match #4: Clutch Gaming League of Legends LoL Team Logo Clutch Gaming vs. Counter Logic Gaming Counter Logic Gaming League of Legends LoL Team Logo

June 24th, 03:00 PM PT / 06:00 PM ET / 00:00 CEST (the next day)

In the fourth game of the week 2 day 2, Favorit Clutch Gaming encounters Counter Logic Gaming. Both teams have made a good start in the split, but Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) and Clutch Gaming separates a decisive thing. The “L” of CLG stands for Loose in this case, because I simply see CG in front currently. Both teams were able to make up one point each in week 1 and must be careful not to give away any points. The game will be fiercely contested, and I'm not saying this easily, but I'm still betting on a 1-0 win for clutch gaming.

NA LCS Summer 2018 Week 2 EF vs GGSMatch #5: Echo Fox League of Legends LoL Team Logo Echo Fox vs. Golden Guardians Golden Guardians League of Legends LoL Team Logo

June 24th, 04:00 PM PT / 07:00 PM ET / 01:00 CEST (the next day)

Echo Fox encounters Golden Guardians. The latter surprised me positively in week 1 and I see potential of the up-and-coming guys. Nevertheless we agree with the bookmakers and Echo Fox will win the game. In the first game of week 2 the foxes will meet Optic Gaming and will probably start with a double victory in week 3. Remembrance of the jumping split comes when Echo Fox together with C9 and CLG led the triumvirate at the top for a long time. I'm betting on a clear 1-0 win for Echo Fox in the last game of day 2 NA LCS.
