If you could never imagine the North American LCS Playoff stage of the 2018 NA Spring Split starting with the quarterfinals on Summoner’s Rift without either one of the trifecta Counter Logic Gaming, Team Liquid or Team SoloMid you got utterly fooled by a chaotic and action-packed season with many upsets and crazy results. There is only a slight chance for CLG making it into the playoffs, Darshan and his team mates need a lot of luck and support by either the Golden Guardians or OpTic Gaming to make the impossible happen. Coming into the quarterfinals the format shifts to best-of-5 duels which require more tactical deepness and adaptability from all participating teams. A lot is on the line for the aspiring champions, the regional heroes will not only earn a lot Championship points for the 2018 League of Legends World Championship but also represent the North American league at the 2018 Mid-Season Invitational tournament. The first quarterfinal of the NA LCS Spring Split 2018 will start on March 24th at 22:00 CEST, so don’t miss turning in for more eye-popping action on Summoner’s Rift.

Schedule and Results – 2018 LCS NA Spring Split Quarterfinals
The North American playoff participants for the Spring Split 2018 are almost certain and only Counter Logic Gaming could still give Team SoloMid or Team Liquid a run for their money – presuming goddess Fortuna is smiling on them. Echo Fox and Cloud9 were also almost able to fixate their BYE at the top of the standings but Clutch Gaming and the 100 Thieves are still in a lurking position.

Quarterfinals #2: Team SoloMid vs. Clutch Gaming
March 25th, 01:00 PM PDT / 04:00 PM EDT / 21:00 CEST
Usually, the Team SoloMid players sit back and relax in their armchairs at this point of the season, watch the duel of their potential semi-final opponents on the live-stream, analyze their strategies and prepare for the next showdown in the semi-finals. But not so in the Spring Season 2018: only through an immensely strong second half of the Spring Split Bjergsen and his team-mates were able to secure a playoff spot at all and they managed to even claim third place of the regular standing in a seemingly endless series of tiebreaker games. There are some indicators of their success: after a mediocre season Midlaner Bjergsen seems to have returned to the peak of his skill and he could even overtake fellow countryman Jensen in the playoff games who, according to experts, outstripped him over the course of the Spring Split. Zven and mithy have managed to win or at least go equal in seemingly impossible match-ups throughout the season without any proper jungle support on their lane and the European AD carry is perhaps the only player outside of South Korea who is able to take advantage of Ezreal’s 2-item midgame power spike. But the most decisive factor in the TSM team is the newly won safety of jungler MikeYeung. After intensive mental coaching the LCS stage seems to have become his new comfort zone and this can also be seen in the overall performance of his team. Continuing this play style top teams like Echo Fox and 100 Thieves may slowly start to shake of fear because the Team SoloMid of playoff games is back on Summoner’s Rift.
They were treated as a squad which would be found in the lower tiers of the standings before the start of the season but Clutch Gaming was able to convince all North American LCS fans from the first week and silence all critics. Many experts criticise the lack of imagination in their matches but going even with all opponents in the early stages of their games and mercilessly exploiting even the smallest mistakes of their rivals in the late stages is a legit winning strategy. The main reason for the success of Clutch Gaming in the Spring Season 2018 is another European import in the Midlane: Febiven. The exceptional player has led his team to victory countless times and will not be a pleasant opponent for Bjergsen on Summoner’s Rift. The TSM team of the first half of the Spring Split would easily crumble before Clutch Gaming but LirA and Co will have to come up with some amazing strategies to take the victory in this best-of-5 duel.
Prediction: While the SoloMid team’s performance curve is shooting up through the ceiling the Clutch Gaming team seems to be experiencing a small drop in efficiency. Bjergsen and his team-mates should finally have found the necessary chemistry between the players and they seem to be dominant again. In the second quarter-finals I expect an easy 3-1 victory for Team SoloMid.
Quarterfinals #1: Team Liquid vs. Cloud9
March 24th , 02:00 PM PDT / 05:00 PM EDT / 22:00 CET
Team Liquid against Cloud 9: Now honestly raise your hands, who would have expected that Cloud 9 would not get a walk-through-ticket for the semi-final. Good point is, we got a lot of analysis potential; both teams had 6 games together in week 9 of the split – two of them against each other. But starting from the beginning; the first meeting of the two North American Stars was at exactly 0:00 o’clock (CET) in week 4 of the NA split. Altough the performance of Team Liquid was anything but spooky in week 4; Cloud 9 (perfect KDA-Jensen, Sneaky, Svenskeren) managed to sweep TL from the field in only 30 minutes. It looked completely different in week 9, when Team Liquids Bot-Lane showed their true potential and C9-Sneaky/Smoothie were literally eaten by TL-Doublelift/Olleh (Tahm Kench). After C9 defeated the Rift-Herald in minute 18, nothing really worked anymore. The meta-play was entirely to Team Liquid’s hands and slowly but surely from minute 26 the Liquids’ gold advantage decided the further course and brought Team Liquid victory.
Team Liquid looks back on a very changeable split and dropped a bit last weeks. In the first weeks it still belonged to the “Triumvirate” (with FOX, C9), but fell off in the meantime. In week 9, however, the team could crown itself again with the laurel wreath and caused great chaos in the table. Due to Team Liquid’s success (Win 3 out of 4 matches) 5 tie-breakers had to be played and Cloud 9 lost its walk-trough-ticket to semi-finals. The team starts into the playoffs (+2xTie-Breaker) with 8L – 12W.
Cloud 9 was one of the clear favourites from the start of the split and, together with Echo Fox, dominated the table for a long time. From Top => Bot C9-Licorice, Svenskeren, Jensen, Sneaky and Smoothie all have already seen with their carry potential, which get multiplied (several times proven) in their extraordinary teamplay. The team starts into the playoffs (+2x tie-breaker) with 8L-12 wins.
Prediction: In summary, the upcoming quarter-final game will have a lot of mindgame impact and Team Liquid will draw on its reserves from week 9. Nevertheless, Cloud 9 simply proved me more continuity and the best-of-5 format demands exactly THAT from the teams. The experts and analysts of our betting providers give Team Liquid a slight advantage over Cloud-9, but experience shows that predictions for the first best-of-5 of this split are more difficult to classify. I expect a hard-fought 2:3 success for Cloud9.
