LCS Season 5 | League of Legends LCS 2015

Logo of LCS Season 5 - 2015 - League of LegendsSeason 5 of the LCS (League of Legends Championship Series) started in January 2015 and brought a lot of changes to the completive LoL Format from Riot Games. First of all the number of teams has been increased from 8 to 10. This brought some changes to the schedule as well. To introduce the two extra teams into the LCS Season 5 a special onetime event called the “Expansion Tournament” was hosted after the LoL World Championship of Season 4. This tournament was held additionally to the Promotion tournament where the bottom 3 teams of the prior Season fought against the Challenger Teams for a slot in the LCS Spring Split 2015. Moreover Riot Games had changed the rules of the LCS regarding the number of foreign players per LCS Team. For the LCS Season 5 | 2015 a Circuit Point system is introduced to the Playoffs in order to determine the European and North American teams participating at the LoL World Championship 2015 | Season 5. LCS Season 5 is followed by LCS Season 6 | 2016.

Playoffs and Relegation

At the end of the regular season of each split the top 6 teams will advance to the LCS Playoffs where they fight for prize money and earn Championship points (aka Circuit Points). The Championship points determine the seeds for the League of Legends World Championship 2015. The team on 10th place at the end of the regular season will be relegated to the Challenger series directly. The teams on place 8 and 9 will fight for their LCS spot against the second and third placed Challenger teams in the Promotion Tournament. The Winner of the Challenger Series will be promoted into the LCS automatically. The LCS Team finishing on place 7 remains in the LCS but does not participate in the Playoffs. In case of a tie at the end of the regular season the team that won more head to head matches will get the higher ranking. If the head to head records is tied a decider match will be played.

Championship Points | Qualification for LoL Worlds

Championship points are awarded due to team’s performance in the LCS Playoffs. The winner of the Season 5 Summer Split Playoffs qualifies directly for LoL Worlds 2015 as the first seed. The second Worlds seed is determined based on the Championship points – the teams that gathered the most points in both splits will get the second spot. The 4 teams on place 2 to 5 in the Championship Point Standings will fight for the third and last spot at the World Championship in the Regional Qualifiers at the end of the 2015 Summer Split. Besides 90 Championship Points the winner of the Spring Split will get a ticket to the LoL Mid Season Invitational 2015. If a team faces relegation after Summer Split all Championship points are forfeit (SK Gaming).
