Teams & Players – NA LCS 2018 Spring Split

The teams and players of the LCS 2018 Spring Split are confirmed, and especially in the NA LCS there have been big changes in the last few months. Some teams that have been part of the North American LoL league in recent years, such as Immortals or Team Dignitas, have not been given a slot in the league after the format changes for the NA LCS 2018. Instead, four new teams will be starting in January: Clutch Gaming, 100 Thieves, Golden Guardians and OpTic Gaming. As a side effect of the disbandings and new foundations, many rosters have been completely separated and new ones created, some of them including European players. Switching to NA LCS was also tempting for many because the change to the franchising system significantly increased the salaries for players compared to the EU LCS. The chances of the new teams for titles as Spring Split Champion are still very difficult to estimate, but the bookmakers are sceptical and still regard Team SoloMid as the big favourite. With Zven and Mithy, the traditional American team has secured what was probably Europe’s best botlane of the past seasons and now wants to attract international attention with better performances, after not reaching the quarter-finals at the 2017 LoL World Championship.

If you’ve already lost track of the many player changes, you’re well advised if you look up our LCS Spring Split 2018 team and player changes overview page. There you will find news about current tranfers as well as tables with a summary of all exchanges.

The Teams in Detail

Clutch Gaming

Clutch Gaming NA LCS 2018 Team Logo

Clutch Gaming is the first of the four new teams in NA LCS. The organisation took on three players from the former Team EnVyUs  and also strengthened its position with the European midlaner Febiven, who previously played for H2k Gaming. Although last year’s EnVy team was not very convincing, Jungler LirA’s commitment brought a fresh impetus and is now making sure that the team on paper can be in the midfield of the North American league.

Roster

  • Top Lane: Solo
  • Jungle: LirA
  • Mid Lane: Febiven
  • Marksman: Apollo
  • Support: Hakuho

Cloud 9

Team Logo Cloud9 NA LCS 2018Cloud9’s team changed only in two places, but they brought some surprises. The experienced top planner Impact will be replaced by Licorice, which has only played in the North American Challenger Series so far. In addition, after leaving Team SoloMid, Jungler Svenskeren found his new home at C9, with Jensen and Sneaky remaining with the team, making Cloud9 one of the top five NA LCS leaders, at least on paper.

Roster

  • Top Lane: Licorice
  • Jungle: Svenskeren
  • Mid Lane: Jensen
  • Marksman: Sneaky
  • Support: Smoothie

Counter Logic Gaming

Team Logo CLG NA LCS 2018For fans of Counter Logic Gaming, the off-season was particularly heartbreaking this year, as support player Aphromoo left the team looking for a new challenge after 9 splits over the past 5 years for CLG. The 25-year-old has long been a favorite of CLG fans due to his permanent good mood and his sometimes unusual picks. His replacement in the Spring Split 2018 will be the former support of TSM, Biofrost, who is perhaps even an easy upgrade in a mechanical way, but has to play its way into the hearts of the fans.

Roster

  • Top Lane: Darshan
  • Jungle: ReignOver
  • Mid Lane: HuHi
  • Marksman: Stixxay
  • Support: Biofrost

100 Thieves

100 Thieves NA LCS 2018 Team LogoThe 100 Thieves benefited in particular from the dissolution of Phoenix1 and immediately engaged Meteos and Ryu. But with the South Korean Ssumday, the team’s greatest strength is likely to be in the toplane. As mentioned above, support player Aphromoo left CLG after five years and will compete in the Spring Split 2018 for the 100 Thieves. The decisive factor will be how well the team gets together until the start of the new season and whether a good synergy can be created, the individual positions are well covered at least.

Roster

  • Top Lane: Ssumday
  • Jungle: Meteos
  • Mid Lane: Ryu
  • Marksman: Cody Sun
  • Support: Aphromoo

OpTic Gaming

Optic Gaming NA LCS 2018 Team LogoWith OpTic Gaming, another well-known eSports-Organisation has made the leap into the League of Legends world. With Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage, the team is also the employer of a German professional. The move from POE to NA LCS has caused much discussion in recent weeks, with some fans accusing him of greed for money and hypocrisy after he reaffirmed his love for Europe before the Allstar tournament. With Akaadian, the team has also caught one of the great North American jungle talents. But it will not be enough for the fight for the championship.

Roster

  • Top Lane: Zig
  • Jungle: Akaadian
  • Mid Lane: PowerOfEvil
  • Marksman: Arrow
  • Support: LemonNation

Golden Guardians

Golden Guardians NA LCS 2018 Team LogoThe Golden Guardians complete the quartet of new NA LCS teams. One could claim that the squad seems to be wildly thrown together. But you can also look at it from the positive side: The team’s got something of everything. Hai is the experienced player of the team, who has covered many different positions and is known as a shotcaller. Jungler Contractz was one of last year’s greatest talents in North America. And Deftly is fresh from the Challenger Series and has to prove his skills first. In addition, there are Lourlo and Matt from Team Liquid, both of whom have not had a very good year recently.

Roster

  • Top Lane: Lourlo
  • Jungle: Contractz
  • Mid Lane: Hai
  • Marksman: Deftly
  • Support: Matt

Team Liquid

Team Logo Liquid NA LCS 2018

After a chaotic season with many changes and the struggle with the relegation tournament in spring 2017, it was time for the organization to completely rework the team. Following singings from Impact (Cloud9), Pobelter (Immortals) and Doublelift (TSM), among others, the team now has an excellent squad and is more than ready for the Spring Split 2018, and for most of the experts, Team Liquid is now one of  the favourites for the title. After the successes in some other eSports leagues, it was time for a breath of fresh air in the League of Legends section.

Roster

  • Top Lane: Impact
  • Jungle: Xmithie
  • Mid Lane: Pobelter
  • Marksman: Doublelift
  • Support: Olleh

Team Solo Mid

Team Logo TSM NA LCS 2018

After TSM have been dominating the North American LCS in 2017, major changes have now been made to the team. The much criticized jungler Svenskeren moves to Cloud9 and makes place for the local talent MikeYeung. Since only two imports per team are allowed to play and Bjergsen has been playing in NA for so long that he is no longer one of them, leaving Svenskeren allowed Zven and Mithy to be signed by TSM. For a long time, the duo was the strongest botlane in Europe and now wants to dominate in North America as well. Team SoloMid has again managed to create a strong roster and will definitely compete for the title again in the Spring Split.

Roster

  • Top Lane: Hauntzer
  • Jungle: MikeYeung
  • Mid Lane: Bjergsen
  • Marksman: Zven
  • Support: Mithy

FlyQuest

FlyQuest NA LCS 2018 Team LogoAfter the qualifying of the Cloud9 Academy for NA LCS and the selling of the organization to the Milwaukee Bucks, the team was renamed FlyQuest. Due to the many former Cloud9 players in the team, FlyQuest always remained the little brother of the LCS competitor. Now the veterans have all left the team and made room for a completely new team, only AD-Carry WildTurtle remains from the last split. The team also received a new, stylish logo.

Roster

  • Top Lane: Flame
  • Jungle: AnDa
  • Mid Lane: Fly
  • Marksman: WildTurtle
  • Support: Stunt

Echo Fox

Team Logo Echo Fox NA LCS-2018After some minor changes to the roster were made last year, Echo Fox has a complete new formation before the Spring Split 2018. The signing of Huni (formerly with SK Telecom T1) was a small sensation, although it was already clear that the South Korean wanted to return to North America after only one season in the LCK. The rest of the team is made up of players who have been passed through the NA LCS in past splits and have not yet been able to find their place. The top 5 of the table would be an ambitious but not impossible goal for the new Echo Fox.

Roster

  • Top Lane: Huni
  • Jungle: Dardoch
  • Mid Lane: FeniX
  • Marksman: Altec
  • Support: Adrian
