After an anstonishing Grand Final of the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational tournament in Brazil with the involvement of an Euorpean team we take now a closer look at the teams and players of the upcoming EU LCS Summer Split 2017. A thrilling Spring Split Season has passed and we watched the the rise of promising talents and the fall of legends but the warm-up time is finally over and the Season 7 Summer Split will decide about those challengers who will represent the European region at the 2017 League of Legends World Championship. Surviving the EU LCS relegation is the name of the game for some teams, others want to rough up the League of Legends scene in their first season as newcomers. Unfortunately we have to say goodbye to Giants Gaming and the Origen team who both were destined to fall at the first hurdle and didn’t manage to re-qualify for the Summer Split 2017. The new blood in the European premium class comes in the form of the Mysterious Monkeys and the Ninjas in Pyjamas who both aquired the LCS slots from Misfits Academy and Fnatic Academy. Furthermore a lots of new players will be tested by approved veterans of the League of Legends scene, maybe we will witness the birth of a new star in the European LCS. G2 Esports and the Unicorns of Love were the strongest teams of the past Spring Split but new challengers are already awaiting and the competition will get tougher and tougher each season. But lets take a look at the teams and players of the upcoming EU LCS Summer Split 2017.

Fnatic

Team Logo Fnatic EU LCS 2017Although there were big hopes and expectations at the begin of the Spring Split 2017 for the overhauled Fnatic roster the start went terribly wrong for Rekkles and his teammates. Nevertheless the performance of the team at the end of the Spring Split 2017 was brilliant and the Fnatic team only fell short to G2 Esports in the semi-finals of the playoffs. The Fnatic team could easily ascent to the Top 2 teams of the European region again, expectations are high for the upcoming Summer Split!

G2 Esports

Team Logo G2 Esports EU LCS 2017Even after the 2017 EU LCS Spring Split the G2 Esports team still is the undisputed #1 team in the European LCS. Perkz and his teammates clearly won the finals of the Spring Split playoffs against the Unicorns of Love and crowned themselves champions of the European LCS one more time. Furthermore the team redeemed themself at the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational tournament where they reached the Grand Finals only falling short of SK Telecom T1 from South Korea. A bright future lies ahead of the team but as we saw with Fnatic, the former kings of Europa – the higher you get, the deeper the fall may be!

Ninjas in Pyjamas

There was quite a bit of drama in the LoL community when the Ninjas in Pyjamas decided to field a brand new roster into the Summer Split 2017 dismissing the former Fnatic Academy team. With Profit from SK Telecom T1 and Nagne from KT Rolster they aquired two top tier Korean imports. We will have to wait and see how successful they will mash with the rest of the European squad.

Team Logo H2K Gaming EU LCS 2017After a strong finish at the League of Legends World Championship 2016 as the strongest non-Korean team the expectations were quite high for the H2K Gaming team before the start of the Spring Split 2016. But the roster changes with Febiven in the midlane and the South Korean botlane didn’t work out quite well in the short term. H2K lost to a strong Fnatic team in the quarter-finals of the playoffs. But the chemistry between the players grows from day to day and Febiven had his flashes of brilliance. As far as we know there are no roster changes for the upcoming Summer Split.

Unfortunately his performance at the end of the split was very shaky, therefore the Misfits organisation terminated his contract for the upcoming Summer Split and reached out for Maxlore as replacement. With their new jungler, Alphari in the top lane and Hans sama as AD-Carry the Misfits teams has some of the most hyped talents in their starting roster.

ROCCAT

Team Logo ROCCAT EU LCS 2017For the first half of the 2017 EU LCS Spring Split the ROCCAT team was rated as the weakest team of the whole region. Exceedingly few estimated the huge turnaround at the end of the season where the ROCCAT squad even was able to defeat the G2 Esports team after their undefeated streak for over a year. However the ROCCAT team suffered the first loss with the departure of jungler Maxlore who is now under contract with the Misfits. The new member of the team is Pridestalker who will be doing his rounds in the jungle of Summoner’s Rift wearing the jersey of Team ROCCAT.

Splyce

Team Logo Splyce EU LCS 2017After the Splyce team qualified as second strongest European organisation for the 2016 League of Legends World Championship many fans and experts expected similar performances in the Spring Split 2017. However the unchanged roster couldn’t withstand the hype and a mediocre Spring Split with the elimination in the quarter-finals of the playoffs was the consequence. Furthermore the Splyce team lost their coach YamatoCannon who signed a contract with the Vitality team. The successor for this important position isn’t certain yet.

Roster

  • Top Lane: Wunder
  • Jungle: Trashy
  • Mid Lane: Sencux

Unicorns of Love

Team Logo Unicorns of Love EU LCS 2017The Unicorns of Love fought to the bitter end but the G2 Esports team dominated the Spring Split playoffs like they dominated the whole EU LCS last year. Nevertheless the team played incredible well in their best season since joining the LCS and maybe we can watch these mythical creatures at these year’s League of Legends World Championship. Although there were rumours of Rekkles joining the team the Unicorns of Love will stick to their roster for the upcoming Summer Split. Especially jungler Xerxe turned out as a good investment and increased the team’s strength.

Vitality

Team Logo Vitality EU LCS 2017The Vitality team was able to secure their continuance in the European premium class for the 2017 EU LCS Summer Split by a narrow margin. To increase their success the organisation decided to make some radical changes in the roster department. Instead of the South Korean support Hachani the team decided to bring back veteran Vander to the LCS. Furthermore they aquired YamatoCannon as coach for the team. In a few weeks we will see if these adjustments will be crowned with success.
