Have you ever tried betting on King of Glory? KoG, as it is often abbreviated, is one of the most popular MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) esports games around. This game pits mighty heroic characters against each other in a team vs team setting. Just like League of Legends (LoL), the aim of the game is to destroy the enemy’s towers, base, critical structures and crystal. Each hero has his or her own strengths, and it takes strategy, nerves and reflexes to beat the opponent. Heroes have magic attacks, spells, melee and ranged weapons and other abilities.

King of Glory is a professional esport in China, with millions of viewers and millions of CNY in prize money. One thing that's special about KOG is that it is one of the only mobile esports. All pro matches are played with smartphones, though spectators can watch games on a big screen, Youtube or other platforms. It should be noted that it is also a free to play esport game which further contributes to its ongoing popularity.
Players from different esports countries take home prizes of hundreds of thousands in USD, and even enjoy a status of minor celebrities.
The King of Glory game comes in various versions or skins, depending on the region. Originally developed by Tencent games, it is not a direct copy of LoL; that being said, Riot Games did complain that there may be potential intellectual property infringement. However, they seem to have put aside their differences: Riot Games and Tencent have decided to work together to develop a mobile version of League of Legends, which they will release in both China and the West.
King of Glory has not been officially released in the West, thus its Chinese name 王者荣耀, or Wang Zhe Rong Yao (Wángzhě Róngyào) is sometimes translated to Honour of Kings, or Strike of Kings, as there is no official translation. To confuse matters even more, some official KoG tournaments are called Honour of Kings.
However, Tencent has developed another game, specifically for Western players, called Arena of Valor, which is available for both Android and iOS. The main difference between Arena of Valor and King of Glory is that the latter uses characters from Chinese mythology, while Arena of Valor uses characters relating to European folklore in a Western comic-book style.
Still, you may find Arena of Valor and King of Glory betting grouped together at various esports betting sites.
King of Glory has plenty of bet types, many of which are also available for other popular MOBAs such as Dota 2 or LoL.
Sadly for King of Glory fans, Tencent is slowly abandoning both King of Glory and its Western skin Arena of Valor. The company has full ownership of Riot Games, and the companies have decided to focus on promoting the mobile League of Legends instead, especially in the West. Having said that, China still holds many annual King of Glory tournaments.

The King Pro League is the most important King of Glory tournament. All teams in the league hail from various cities in China:
Teams based in Wuhan, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Chongqing, or Shenzhen have their own stadium where they play the majority of their matches, while all other matches are are played in Shanghai. The total prize pool is ¥ 8,000,000 CNY, or approximately $1,138,628 USD.
In the preseason, all teams play a single round-robin, following the below structure:
The group stage consists of 3 rounds:
All 3 groups play a single round-robin (best of 3). Depending on their rank, they will either stay in the same group, be promoted to a higher group or are demoted to a lower group.
All 3 groups again play a single round-robin (best of 5). Teams left in group B are eliminated from the tournament.
All 3 groups play a single round-robin once more (best of 5).
These take place within a double-elimination round (best of 7):
This the final round that determines the King Pro League tournament champion.
The Honor of Kings Champion Cup is another Chinese King of Glory tournament, featuring a ¥16,000,000 prize pool. It has a similar line-up of teams, though the competition is spread over a group stage and playoffs. The last winner was Turnso Gaming, who took home the grand prize of ¥ 13,440,000 ($1,933,821 US).
In the group stage, all 12 teams go into two groups, each playing a single round-robin. The top 4 teams from each group go to the Playoffs, while the bottom two are eliminated.
All matches are held in a best-of-3 format.
The playoffs have a single-elimination format, and matches are best-of-7.
For King of Glory esports results, we recommend Rivalry (see above). The site has all the latest results, as well as updated odds, live betting odds, and betting options for all major esports events.
Chinese viewers can watch King of Glory tournaments on television; however, if you are outside China, or have no access Chinese TV, your best option is YouTube. To watch the King Pro League Live, you can find a King Pro League Stream on CGTN’s YouTube channel, though much of the other content on there is not esports-related, as this is a general, China-owned news channel.
You can also follow popular Honor of Kings commentators such as Gao “Tian Yun”, who has her own channel on Weibo. Alternatively, you can visit the official Honor of Kings YouTube channel, where you can find a lot of useful gameplay videos.
King of Glory is a bit of a niche esport for Western players, as there are few from this part of the world who follow the sport. Neverthless, although it can be hard for a non-Chinese person to find good King of Glory betting tips, general esports betting tips do apply.
META stands for ‘most effective tactics available'. As with betting tips, it can be hard to find the most updated META as there is not much of an English language (or any other Western language) community for the game. However, if you do speak Chinese, Tencent’s King of Glory website is a good starting point.
We usually advise that bettors to follow the players on social media. However, most KoG players only have profiles on Chinese social media, making it hard for Western players to follow them. Still, if your Chinese is good and you are familiar with Chinese social media platforms, it is a good idea.
If you want to understand or make successful betting predictions for any game, it is best to play it yourself. However, KoG is not available on Google play or Apple App store outside of China, though there are a few sites where you can download the APK. As an alternative, you can download and play Arena of Valor (which is available outside of China), since the game has similar mechanics.
As KoG is only available in China, you might be more interested in playing games like Arena of Valor or betting on Dota 2. These follow a similar style of gameplay, and there are many more resources available, making it easier to make sensible bets based on research. You will also find more international teams, leagues and events.
No matter whether you bet on FIFA, CoD, LoL, KoG, football or politics, the same fundamentals apply.
King of Glory is a mobile multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game, which is clearly inspired by League of Legends. In order to play, you need either a WeChat or Tencent QQ account. The game is available on both iOS and Android, and cross-platform play is also possible.
In any of the game modes, the player controls a hero with unique skills or spells and can kill NPC characters to gain gold. They can use the latter to buy items and potions, as well as experience points, which boost power and abilities. Players are usually divided into teams equally, and have a base camp opposite the enemy camp on the map. The teams then battle it out across the map, attempting to make progress by attacking enemy turrets. A final victory is achieved by destroying the enemy’s main building across the map.
Players can also gain experience and gold on their player account across matches. An account starts at level 1, but it can go up to level 15. With every level they advance to, players will receive in-game awards, such as abilities or items. Players can also use gold to purchase new heroes.
KoG has multiple game modes, as well as a tier-based ranking system.
Valley of Kings is the most commonly played mode. Players battle it out in a classic 5v5 setting, with multiple routes to the enemy base.
Once a player has reached level 6 and owns at least 5 champions (heroes), the player can participate in ranked matches. Players can join solo, or in groups of 2, 3 or 5. The game has an in-built matchmaking system to match players with appropriately ranked opponents. There are 7 ranked tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Ace, King and High King.
Battle of Changping is similar to Valley of Kings; however, there are 3 players per team and only one route to the enemy base.
Mohist Mechatech is a 1v1 mode. Here, there is only 1 turret, while base healing and the ability to return to base are disabled.
Kog has several arcade modes, which have modified rules that can make for interesting gameplay.
Infinity Skirmish has similar rules to Valley of Kings, though the mode has a faster pace. Here, the defence turrets have lower health points, while the minions move faster. Heroes start at level 2 and gain gold and XP faster. Every 2 minutes, random buffs appear, which can greatly affect the game outcome.
In Dreamland Clash, players are assigned a random hero, though they can roll to pick another random hero from the remaining selection. The arena has only one middle lane and a path for collecting gold and healing buffs.
In KoG Chess, there is a total of 8 players. In each turn, players are presented with 5 random heroes, for which they can pay gold and place them on the chess board. Heroes have different prices according to their power – they start at 1 star, but can go up to 3 stars. Players battle each other according to the place on the board, with each fight taking turns until the last player is standing.
The Chess mode has a similar ranking system to Ranked Matches.
Fiery Mountain Battle has a circular arena with 3 main lanes. Players will spawn randomly at location A or B, with each one starting at level 2, 800 gold and the fireball ability. Fireballs do not damage enemy players, but do have a knockback effect. Besides jungle creatures, the arena also has lava, which damages heroes on the outside of each lane. The game mode also features random buffs.
The first team to achieve 30 kills or the team with the most kills in 10 minutes wins.
Clone Fight is available from Friday to Sunday, with similar rules to Valley of Kings. Heroes, however, are voted and used by the whole team. If there is a tie in the vote, a random hero is chosen.
Similar to other MOBA, King of Glory has heroes in 6 classes: Tanks (defensive), Fighters (combat), Archers (ranged attacks), Assassins (stealth), Mages (magic and spells) and Support (healing). Most characters originate from Chinese history and folklore, though a few are based on characters from Japanese action games Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series.
Below are the heroes’ Chinese names, as Tencent has yet to release an English version of the game.
Both games are very similar, though there is a key difference. KoG was developed in Chinese for the Chinese market, featuring Chinese mythical or fantasy characters. Arena of Valor was developed for the Western market. It is essentially a skin for the same game, with characters based on Western fantasy, similar to LoL.
As a Westerner, there is no real option to download the Chinese version of King of Glory. However, you can still download Arena of Valor on Google Play.
No. The developer Tencent has chosen to focus on the mobile version of LoL instead for Western markets, in collaboration with subsidiary Riot Games, meaning there will likely never be an English version of the game.
As Tencent has developed the game for China, and the fact that it is only available in Chinese, all King of Glory tournaments are in China.
