The game was in a closed beta phase for a long time before the open beta started in December 2013. HS was officially released in March 2014. Hearthstone is available on Mac and Windows and in mobile versions for iPad and Android. Since 2015 various expansions were added with the latest being the Streets of Gadgetzan. Gameplay of Hearthstone
Hearthstone boasts around 300 cards for players to start with. Players can also earn or buy booster packs that consist of five random cards including at least one rare card. Players can select up to nine different heroes depending on your play style. The heroes are very similar to the ones seen on World of Warcraft. Games are played in one versus one matches. The Arena mode is where everything boils down. Players will have to make their deck from pre-selected cards to put in play later on and use this deck to battle the opposing player. Every time you win a match, you earn a prize. Players will summon creatures over the battlefield in order to protect the player’s health points. Spells can also be cast to enhance creatures or destroy them. Some can even be cast directly to the player to reduce their health points. If a player reaches zero health points, the remaining player wins the game. One can even pull different combos in order to surprise the enemy. It is up to the player to learn his or her deck perfectly well and what each deck’s advantage is against a certain enemy. This alone takes the game’s strategy to a head. There is more than one way of claiming victory over the board as Hearthstone players have different strategies regarding to the hero of their choice.
