EU Quarter-Final #1: H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team Logo H2K vs. Giants - LCS EU Team Logo Giants Gaming

Head to head record in regular Summer Split: H2K Gaming 2:0 Giants Gaming
(August 8th, Start Time: 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 05:00 PM CEST)

H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team LogoWith their recent result this Summer Split, H2k once again finish the split in 3rd place, performing too short of becoming the no. 1 seed come playoff time. Petter “Hjarnan Freyschuss and Raymond “kaSing” Tsang had been phenomenal this season as they averaged a combined KDA ratio of 12.3, ranking third in the overall combined ADC-Support KDA ratio.

H2k also has an effective early game presence as most of the time; they can easily score kills and gain advantages in the early game, evident in their games against Fnatic, Elements, Unicorns of Love, and Giants Gaming. The only problem is that they tend to crumble if the enemy team gains a sizable lead in the early game, evident in their matches against SK Gaming in Week 5 and Copenhagen Wolves in Week 8 as both teams won their matches against H2k by defeating them in the early game battle.

Giants - EU LCS Team LogoGiants Gaming was one of the dark horse coming into the Week 8 of the Summer Split as their performance unexpectedly got them to the upper bracket of the standings. Their unorthodox line-ups and versatility caught most teams off guard. The addition of Oskar “G0DFRED” Lundstrom and his shotcalling ability has incredibly helped the team as even though they would often lose the early game battle, they would still comeback in a stellar fashion, punishing the enemy team for their small mistakes and bringing the control of the game into their favor.

Their mid-laner Isaac “PePiiNeRO” Flores improved heavily this season as his wide champion pool and carry ability has become the cornerstone of Giants Gaming’s late-game assurance. He also showed his versatility against Fnatic in Week 3 as he swapped role with Adrian “Adryh” Gonzales and played ADC. Although they lost that game, Isaac “PePiiNeRO” Flores had the highest kill among his teammates and recorded 2 kills with no death by 16 minutes.

Prediction: This season, H2k closed out their series against Giants Gaming in a stellar 2-0 record. H2k heavily defeated the Spanish team in both games, scoring 21 kills and 24 kills in games 1 and 2 respectively while only giving up 9 deaths in total.

H2k has three major advantages over Giants Gaming. First is that their players are more mechanically skilled. Second, their early game rotation, letting Odoamne farm safely in lane while the rest of his teammates rotate around the map, is one of the best in the business. Lastly, Giants Gaming has a poor early game and exploiting it is an easy task for an elite team such as H2k.

The only Giants Gaming can do is that they need to caught H2k off guard and they need to defeat H2k in their own game, that is to defeat them in the early game. If they can do those things, they can with this series as they have shown in the Summer Split that they can close out games in a fashionably manner. Nonetheless, I will give this one to H2k as Giants Gaming’s performance declined heavily after Week 7 of the Summer Split and one week of preparation is not enough for a team with such issues. H2k in 3 games.

EU Quarter-Final #2: Unicorns of Love - LCS EU Team Logo Unicorns of Love vs. Logo of LCS EU Team Roccat Roccat

Head to head record in regular Summer Split: Unicorns of Love 1:1 Roccat
(August 9th, Start Time: 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 05:00 PM CEST)

Logo of LCS EU Team Unicorns of LoveUnicorns of Love started its LCS career in a stellar fashion, upsetting a couple of elite teams last Spring Playoffs before losing in the finals against Fnatic. They are one of the top teams to win it all this Summer Playoffs, but as every team has their own share of problems; personal issues and roster changes started to plague the team. Although in-game statistics showed that Unicorns of Love improved this season compared last spring, other teams have taken the center stage and left them in a middling situation.

PowerOfEvil averaged 4.3 KDA ratio this season, a 0.9 improvement compared to his 3.4 KDA ratio last Spring Split, while Vizicsacsi, Vardags, Hylissang, and Kikis averaged 3.1, 4.1, 2.9, and 3.8 KDA ratio respectively, a slight improvement compared last season. Although everything improved for them this season including their record (9-9), their overall performance compared to other teams was subpar and now, their future is looking dim as Berk “Gillus” Demir and Mateusz “Kikis” Szkudlarek have stepped down from the team.

Logo of LCS EU Team RoccatRoccat redeemed their disappointing performance last Spring Split by improving their record this Summer Split and become of the top six teams heading into the Summer Playoffs. Although they are still inconsistent, they have improved tremendously and have defeated elite teams such as Origen and H2k.

Even though Pawel “Woolite” ranked 2nd in the lowest KDA ratio among the ADC’s of the top six teams, his 16k gold per game ranked 2nd in the average gold per game this Summer Split. Erlend “Nukeduck” Holm also had an excellent performance this season as his 4.9 KDA ratio is the highest among his teammates. They also defeated Giants Gaming in an intense tiebreaker game for 5th place, outdueling the Spanish team in 47 minutes.

Prediction: Unicorns of Love split their series against Roccat this season. In their first game, both teams traded kills early and the momentum shifted from one team to another. It was a back-and-forth game with Unicorns of Love winning the 54-minute game. In their second game, Roccat quickly disposed the pink horse in 34 minutes. They easily crushed Unicorns of Love in the early game and secured the win after their dominating performance.

Although neither Roccat nor Unicorns of Love has a major advantage over one another, Unicorns of Love have performed excellently last Spring Playoffs. Even though they were still not consistent team back then, a best-of-five series brought about a positive change to their performance. With that in mind, I would give this one to Unicorns of Love 3 games to 2.
