LCS Season 6 | League of Legends LCS 2016

LCS 2016 - LCS Season 6 - LogoThe Spring Split of the LCS 2016 (LCS Season 6) started in mid January 2016 (Thursday, January 14th for the European LCS and Saturday, January 16th for the North American LCS). Like last year 10 teams are fighting over two splits (Spring Split and Summer Split) to qualify for the Playoffs at the end of each split where the teams can earn prize money and CS Points in order to qualfiy for the 2016 League of Legends World Championship (LoL Worlds). Overall the format and rules of the Spring Split did not change much compared to last year (check the Spring Split format changes here), but huge changes have been announced for the 2016 Summer Split (NA and EU will have different formats then). Speaking of changes: during the pre-season a lot of teams rebranded and a whole bulk of roster changes happened. Besides this a lot of roster changes are coming in for the LCS Summer Split as well. Find more about this below. And in case you have missed it: there has been a huge gampelay update with the last patches (Read more about the Gamepleay changes here). The League of Legends Championship Series will be continued in January next year – find out more about the LCS 2017 | LCS Season 7 here!

Playoffs and Relegation

At the end of the regular season of both splits (Spring and Summer) the top 6 teams advance to the Playoffs where they fight for prize money and Championship Points. Like last year, the Championship points determine the 3 seeds for the League of Legends World Championship 2016. The 3 teams finishing on place 10, 9 and 8 are fighting for their remainder in the LCS against the top 2 Challenger teams in the promotion tournaments. The team finishing on 7th place remains in the LCS but does not participate in the Playoffs. In case of a tie at the end of a regular season the team that won more head to head matches will get the higher ranking. If the head to head record is tied a decider match will be played directly after the last match of week 9.

Ticket Info and Location

All LCS matches of the regular season are played in front of live audience in the LCS Studios in Los Angeles (for North America) and Berlin (for Europe). If you want the see the action live you can buy tickets for both leagues at Eventbrite – the ticket sale for the 2016 spring split started on December 18th. Format and Rules Spring Split

Compared to last season the format has not changed a lot. One thing is that teams in the Playoffs will now be reseeded for the semifinals. Besides this Riot Games said goodbye to auto promotion/relegation. This means, after the Spring Split the bottom 3 LCS teams and the top 2 Challenger Series teams are fighting over the 3 open LCS spots for the 2016 Summer Split in the Summer Promotion tournament which will take place after the Spring Split Playoffs. Some more alternations have been made for player contracts or the used patch and available champions. You can find a full list of the changes to the rules and format of the 2016 Spring Split here. At the end of Feb 2016 Riot Games announced the start of a new penalty index the launch of the penalty tracker. Read more about the LCS penalty index and tracker here.

Prize Money / Salaries

Besides Championship Points which are needed in order to qualify for the LoL World Championship 2016 the teams are also fighting for prize money at the Playoffs. This prize pool is paid in addition to the salaries of the LCS players and coaches. You can take a look at the prize money below. Find out more about prize money and LCS player salaries here.

Placement after Playoffs Prize per team
Champion 50,000 USD
2nd place 25,000 USD
3rd place 15,000 USD
