Group Stage TI8 Format
The group stage format for this year's The International Dota 2 tournament will be exactly the same as last year's. This information was announced months ago after the confirmation that TI8 will feature the same number of teams as the previous installment – 18. Even though the overall team quantity has remained the same, the method of choosing the teams has been slightly altered. Instead of having 6 invited teams, which was the case last year out, this time around we will see 8 of them. That makes it 8 invited teams and 10 qualified ones. All participating teams have already been decided so we can jump straight to the actual group stage TI8 format!
TI8 Group Stage format revolves around all 18 teams being placed into 2 groups of 9 teams. It is scheduled to last during the first 3 days of the competition (from 15th to 18th August) and will feature only Bo2 (best of 2) round robin matches. TI8 group stage is really forgiving since only 1 team from each group will be eliminated. First 4 teams in each group go through to the upper bracket while 4 remaining ones go to the lower bracket.
