The last LAN Tournament before The International Tournament of 2015 and it did not disappoint. Seven of the eight teams going to Seattle for the International 2015 faced each other in a single elimination format and there were fireworks all the way to the grand finals. As I have said in the previous article, ESL One is one of the few tournaments without a loser’s bracket, making it a very short yet very entertaining tournament. All the teams have given it everything, wanting to show off why they should be the favorites coming into the International 2015.

The dust has settled and after an epic best of five series. Team Secret is the final team standing at ESL One Frankfurt. Team Secret has not dropped a game going into the finals and Evil Geniuses has their work cut out for them. The first game showed Evil Geniuses heavily out drafting Team Secret. Yet Team Secret through sheer talent was able to hold their own but eventually fell to the Evil Geniuses onslaught. Game 2 looked like another Evil Geniuses win when they got a hold of the Storm Spirit for Suma1l. Team Secret put their eggs in Arteezy’s Gyrocopter. They both left the others in GPM but Suma1l, showing a little bit of inexperience jumped in a few inopportune times resulting in him dying. Arteezy played the farming game, choosing not to engage in a few skirmishes and eventually snowballed into a massive death machine ending the hopes of Evil Geniuses. Game 4 showed Team Secret now outdrafting Evil Geniuses, picking an Anti-mage against the Evil Geniuses Tinker. Suffice to say Evil Geniuses lost game 4 due to the farming skills of the Anti-mage. Game 5 was Evil Geniuses turn to try their hand on the Anti-mage but Lina’s purchase of the Aghanihm’s Scepter partnered with Bloodseeker’s level 4 Bloodrage signaled the start of the end for the Evil Geniuses. Team Secret finally sealed the game with a die-back from the Anti-mage and winning their 4th straight LAN tournament.

The ESL One Frankfurt has also grown from what it was last year. 15,000 visitors trooped to the Commerzbank Arena with more than 500,000 viewers watching simultaneously online. The ESL One Frankfurt was the biggest e-sports LAN tournament held in Europe since the first International. The final results of the Dota 2 tournament are:

  • Team Secret           1st Place                 $118,481.00
  • Evil Geniuses         2nd Place               $59,241
