Esports market is expanding rapidly with the ever-growing fan base and increased interest in tournaments and competitions hosted all over the world. As time goes by, we can expect new additions to the world of esports, but it can only be a good thing. New tournaments raise the competitiveness that team owners want to use to invest more. As a result, young and talented players will have more opportunities to shine. The latest addition to esports universe is a tournament for the top teams in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).
New esports tournament isn’t a rumor circling around, StarLadder confirmed it in the official announcement they posted on their website. In the statement, StarLadder announces the collaboration with ImbaTV.
Both organizations reached an agreement with PUBG Corporation and are set to organize the international third-party tournament in the game such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The third-party tournament is, basically, a competition organized by independent tournament organizers.
When and where?
The very first PUBG Invitational will take place at the Kiev Cybersports Arena in Kiev, Ukraine. The tournament will start on March 1st and end on March 4th, 2018. Solo players will not be able to compete due to the fact that the tournament will be using PUBG’s Squad mode. Although a new addition to the esports betting universe, the competition is simple and straightforward.
Organizers will invite 16 strongest teams from different parts of the world. The invited teams will have the opportunity to show what they’re made of and demonstrate all their skills to cement, and get their name out there. Although this is going to be the first PUBG Invitational tournament, all teams will want to reach fans across the world, get sponsors, and prove they are a valuable addition to esports scene. The only way to do that is to ensure outstanding performance and complete the tournament successfully.
Not only they’ll play for prestige, fans, and all similar things, but great prize pool as well. You see, the prize pool will amount to $100,000 which is truly impressive.
Who will participate?
The tournament will start in two months and that’s a relatively short period of time so it’s safe to expect team announcements soon. At this point, the names of 16 best teams that received an invitation are unknown. What we do know is the number of teams that will be invited from each region. They are as follows:
- Asia – 1 team
- China – 3 teams
- CIS – 2 teams
- Europe – 3 teams
- North America – 4 teams
- Oceania – 1 team
- South America – 1 team
- Southeast Asia – 1 team
Why are some fans skeptics about the tournament?
While the organization of the tournament is generally accepted as great news among esports fans, some enthusiasts are rather skeptic. PUBG Invitational could generate outstanding success if we bear in mind that PUBG matches regularly rank high on Twitch’s most viewed content. The popularity of PUBG makes people firmly believe this marks the new era of esports and the future is nothing but bright for the competition and everything that comes next.
Why skepticism then? PUBG LAN events aren’t really engaging and it’s almost impossible to focus on one specific competitor because the camera changes constantly in order to follow kills. However, organizers of the tournament are aware of this problem and they promise exceptional user experience meaning they already have plans to overcome this obstacle.
StarLadder announced the brand new PUBG Invitational, a tournament that will take place in Ukraine. Sixteen best teams from different parts of the world will get the chance to participate for a chance to win prize pool of $100,000. While some fans are excited, others are skeptic about the lack of engagement and difficulty focusing on one player. Organizers said they’re already working on solving these problems. It’s going to be interesting to see how new tournament will look like. Don’t miss it.
