What to say about the quarterfinals between FaZe and Fnatic? The matches themselves were quite interesting and FaZe managed to grab a 2:0 win. The second round, however, was pretty close (Fnatic were close to winning but ultimately lost 16:14). Interestingly, both rounds had a lot of triple kills: ‘GuardiaN’ and ‘NiKo’ both managed to snatch 3k and were definitely the MVPs of these quarterfinals. ‘NiKo’ was the one who got the final 3 kills and helped FaZe cross into the semifinals of IEM Sydney 2018 playoffs. Now they have to face TyLoo; a team that won every single match and got to the semifinals through the upper brackets. What does this mean for both TyLoo and FaZe? Let’s take a look at what we should expect.
IEM XIII Sydney 2018 Semifinals | Predictions
TyLoo vs. FaZe Clan Quarterfinals
Semifinals #1: Tyloo vs FaZe Clan
Start time: Friday, May 4, 2018 – 07:00 CEST , 22:00 PT, 01:00
TyLoo eagerly waiting for a true challenge
Even though they had some issues against SK Gaming in the first round (barely winning with a score of 19:16), TyLoo probably had a powerful motivation speech behind the curtains, especially when you remember they’ve won against C9 and Renegades with a 2:0 score. They seem to be doing pretty well and will definitely welcome the challenge against FaZe. TyLoo has been waiting for quite some time to finally learn who their adversaries in the semifinals are so they’re eager to continue proving to the world that they have what it takes. However, is sheer power of will and motivation enough to get through to the grand finals of IEM XIII Sydney playoffs? Especially against a hardened FaZe that had to go through the mud in order to reach the semis.
FaZe eyeing the finals
No one in their right mind thought that FaZe would ‘give up’ after losing to Renegades in the second round of the upper brackets. They have lived up to the expectations and I think it’s obvious that a team with such a pedigree would simply fall down a hole and get eliminated. Beating Fnatic was the exact motivation boost they needed and now – they’re thirsty for blood. Don’t think for a moment that even losing the first round against TyLoo would demotivate them. In fact, it would probably push them even more. ‘NiKo’ and ‘GuardiaN’ are in berserk mode and there seems to be nothing stopping them from that spot in the finals.

Only one team goes through to the finals – Which one?
A difficult prediction to make. Both teams are amazing and have everything it takes to win. TyLoo is given a small advantage over FaZe (as voted by the community) but I don’t think everything is so black & white. TyLoo did sweep the floor with everyone in the upper brackets, but they didn’t have as many matches as FaZe. FaZe, on the other hand, is the hardened team in this scenario: They had to fight in the lower brackets after a second-round loss.
In the end, I would give a very small advantage to FaZe, simply because they had more matches (on more maps mind you) and some amazing performances in these. However, the battle is surely going to be very close.
