Predictions Day 6 | MLG Major Columbus 2016

Grand Finals: Natus Vincere CSGO Team Logo Natus Vincere vs. Luminosity Gaming CSGO Team Logo Luminosity Gaming (Bo3)
Start Time: (April 3, 10:30 AM PDT / 01:30 PM EDT / 07:30 PM CET)

The game is on between these two insanely similar teams. These two have a history of putting up insanely close matchup having 3 of their last 5 games coming into overtime and with their most recent matchup going up to double overtime in one of the most memorable matches you could ever see on overpass in IEM Katowice 2016. I would like to start off by saying that Na’Vi is a different team compared to the Na’Vi we saw at IEM. They were playing subpar to what we usually see them do during IEM Katowice. As for LG, they were a rising team at that time and made it to the finals and eventually lost to fnatic in a best of 5.

There is no question how great a role model GuardiaN and FalleN are to all the CS players out there. They are great leaders to have in the team and one of the best callers especially with both claiming AWP duties at the same time. As for their recent performance, Na’Vi has Edward and flamie on fire right now and it would be hard to stop Edward being the entry fragger he is for the team. If he keeps going like this, LG will be fighting with a disadvantage for a couple of rounds. With the playstyle these guys play, expect to see GuardiaN and FalleN thrive for their teams and I would give the edge right now to FalleN.

LG just had their hands full with Team Liquid yesterday and I am not sure if them having to face VP before this had something to do with it. It is tough to prepare against two teams which obviously Liquid also did but they had time to analyze LG against VP. LG is just amazing at clutch situations and are pretty well rounded. They could have anyone in their team top frag.

This game will be more of a 50-50 with the slightest edge to Na’Vi given their form coming into this one. They are the favorites to win the tournament ever since fnatic fell of the tournament and there is no reason for both teams to have jitters with that $500,000 in their sights as they’ve both been in the finals just a few months ago.

Natus Vincere (55%) vs Luminosity Gaming (45%)
Natus Vincere wins 2-1

Predictions Day 5 | Grand Finals:

Quarterfinal #4: Luminosity Gaming CSGO Team Logo Luminosity Gaming vs. Team Virtus Pro CSGO Team Logo Virtus.pro (Bo3)

Start Time: (April 2, 07:00 AM PDT / 10:00 AM EDT / 04:00 PM CET)

LG is probably the team who took over Virtus.pro’s spot in the rankings after VP’s prolonged slump. Their rise have been remarkable and the work ethic FalleN has put up for this team to grow speaks volumes to where they are now. They are still continuing to improve and look to take revenge on what could’ve been their first big title in IEM Katowice. They haven’t played much during the span from IEM to MLG but they have been heavily preparing for big tournaments like this. They discuss strategies and play calls even in the airplane. Their chemistry is great and fnx has been beast lately for LG. They don’t look shaken up unlike VP are coming into this match.

Virtus.pro is just as hard to read as the Rosetta stone. They got destroyed by Na’Vi in cobblestone and destroyed G2 on the same map after that. In my opinion, this is due to the fact that they don’t read their opponents that much and rely heavily on their quite simple strategies and just hope for the best. They have the skill and the talent but their in-game leader needs to step up. I am not sure if neo is the in game leader they need but he really needs to step up.

Luminosity Gaming (70%) – Virtus.pro (30%)
Luminosity Gaming wins 2-0

Semifinal #1: Natus Vincere CSGO Team Logo Natus Vincere vs. Team Astralis CSGO Team Logo Astralis (Bo3)

Start Time: (April 2, 09:30 AM PDT / 12:30 PM EDT / 06:30 PM CET)

Astralis just dismantled fnatic in a Bo3 which I never thought could’ve ever happen. They did great against FaZe after losing to Team Liquid where we would see them bounce back from the group stages loss just like in IEM Katowice. After that we would have expected them to perform better while on the brink of elimination as they always do but they just flat out got outplayed. They never gained ground throughout the series and it half the credit goes to Astralis and the other half to fnatic playing abysmal in this one. Karrigan didn’t perform well in the first match and bounced back from the other game which was a blowout. Dupreeh was out of this world and top fragged on both games. Their T side on Cache was also impressive where they blew out fnatic out of the tournament. I’ll expect to see the same for Astralis against the team to beat right now.

Natus Vincere just shutdowned a surprisingly good NiP team and looked unscathed throughout the tournament. Na’Vi has shown a seriously good CT side and an even better T side. They are on top of the food chain and credits to players like Edward and seized for showing up since we know GuardiaN and flamie will always do.

Natus Vincere (65%) vs Astralis (35%)
Natus Vincere wins 2-1

Semifinal #2: Team Liquid CSGO Team Logo Team Liquid vs. Winner Match Quarterfinal #4 (Bo3)

Start Time: (April 2, 06:00 PM PDT / 03:00 PM EDT / 09:00 PM CET)

Team Liquid is the dark horse that could actually win it all even after being down a player. They are surprisingly undefeated being in one of the toughest group and also not being matched up against SPLYCE. S1mple is the frontrunner to become MVP of the event and never took his foot off the pedal. Things looked grim when they were down 3-12 to CLG on CT side in Cache but miraculously won 13 of the next 14 rounds for a 16-13 victory. Tarik carried CLG the whole game and after that became human again then got blown out.

I would love to see how Liquid would do against a very slow and solid team in LG. I feel s1mple would even do better with that pace but would probably not reflect the scorecard. For VP, I like their chances more but they would have to respect VP. They have a good T side but a not so good CT side.

Team Liquid (40%) vs Luminosity Gaming (60%)
Luminosity Gaming wins 2-1

Team Liquid (65%) vs Virtus.pro (35%)
Team Liquid wins 2-1

Predictions Day 4 | MLG Major Columbus 2016

Quarterfinal #1: Natus Vincere CSGO Team Logo Natus Vincere vs. Ninjas in Pyjamas CSGO Team Logo Ninjas in Pyjamas (Bo3)

Start Time: (April 1, 07:00 AM PDT / 10:00 AM EDT / 04:00 PM CET)

The ninjas got pummeled by LG before their elimination match against mousesports began. With LG having a similar playstyle to Na’Vi, NiP doesn’t bode too well against Na’Vi since for me, they are better than LG. Losing pyth is too much for Na’Vi to overcome but they did show up against mousesports. NiKo disappeared in that final match against NiP but Spidi was able to pick up the slack. NiP, on the other hand, got even contributions from their players including THREAT. NiP looks solid but they need someone to step it up even more.

Natus Vincere are on a tear right now. With fnatic showing weakness, they look like the favorites to win the tournament. Na’Vi massacred VP on cobblestone with a 16-4 scoreline. The takeaway here is how they got 12 wins on T side. I did like VP’s chances coming into this match being a best of 1 and knowing how VP could just turn it up but Na’Vi was just too much. There weren’t even close rounds to clutch, they were just executing perfectly and reading strategies.

Natus Vincere (75%) – Ninjas in Pyjamas (25%)
Natus Vincere wins 2-1

Quarterfinal #2: Team Astralis CSGO Team Logo Astralis vs. Fnatic CSGO Team Logo Fnatic (Bo3)

Start Time: (April 1, 09:30 AM PDT / 12:30 PM EDT / 06:30 PM CET)

Astralis probably had the easiest group out of all the powerhouse teams out there. Karrigan has been performing quite horridly after bottom fragging in every game so far this event. Even on their blowout win, kerrigan had a negative +/- rating. These games could’ve been a fluke since they haven’t played that much against CLG and Gambit. They still pack a punch but really struggled with their matchup against fnatic in the past and has been a constant roadblock to their team’s success.

Fnatic recently just got upsetted by Team Liquid in overtime yesterday. S1mple and EliGE straight up carried Liquid in this Bo1. Fnatic responded with a clean 2-0 victory against a decent FaZe team. Fnatic are still the fnatic we used to see before the event began. Liquid was ‘s1mply’ just performing out of their minds even without koosta. The fact that it had to go to OT after performing that well just means that it will take everything from your team to beat fnatic.

Fnatic (70%) – Astralis (30%)
Fnatic wins 2-0

Quarterfinal #3: Team Liquid CSGO Team Logo Team Liquid vs. Counter Logic Gaming CSGO Team Logo Counter Logic Gaming (Bo3)

Start Time: (April 1, 06:00 PM PDT / 03:00 PM EDT / 09:00 PM CET)

I would say CLG dodged a bullet there by not having to matchup against fnatic and at the same time fight a team they are so familiar with. These guys play a lot of scrim along with players from coL and Cloud9 and know each other well. It would be difficult to count the lesser team out as they know each other so well that it could go either side. It just depends on they read each other. Form and talent goes to Liquid even before their upsets and winning their group with teams like fnatic and FaZe confirms that even more.

Team Liquid (65%) – CLG (35%)
Team Liquid wins 2-1

Quarterfinal #4: Luminosity Gaming CSGO Team Logo Luminosity Gaming vs. Team Virtus Pro CSGO Team Logo Virtus.pro (Bo3)

Predictions Day 2 | MLG Major Columbus 2016

Match #9: Flipsid3 Tactics CSGO Team Logo Flipsid3 Tactics vs. Mousesports CSGO Team Logo mousesports

Start Time: (March 30, 07:00 AM PDT / 10:00 AM EDT / 04:00 PM CET)

The first elimination match of the day. I am disappointed that these elimination matches will be played in a Bo1 where everyone will be feeling the pressure from the get-go. These team have a history and their H2H stats seem to favor mousesports even with their recent H2H going in the way of FlipSid3. In my opinion, NiKo has emerged as one of the top 2 players in CSGO recently alongside olofmeister. I guess with GTR from NiP slowing down, it is only a matter of time before someone else emerges to the top. With that being said, we should expect NiKo to perform exceptionally well as he’s been doing that all year long.

FlipSid3 is one of the most volatile teams in CS. They could play out of their minds and on some nights, they would just disappear. Players like WorldEdit and bondik needs to bring their A game to overcome a good game from NiKo and the rest would seem like a pretty close matchup throughout the match.

Mousesports (65%) – FlipSid3 (35%)

Mousesports wins 1-0 (16-12)

Match #10: FaZe CSGO Team Logo FaZ vs. Splyce CSGO Team Logo Splyce

Start Time: (March 30, 08:10 AM PDT / 11:10 AM EDT / 05:10 PM CET)

FaZe vs SPLYCE – There is a clear discrepancy in skill with these two teams. SPLYCE is not a tier 1 NA team which is a far cry from the level of play we have been seeing throughout the tournament. An upset is unlikely here and I expect to see FaZe get back in track as they haven’t been doing well lately. Hopefully this game could bring them back and spark a comeback.

FaZe (80%) – SPLYCE (20%)

FaZe wins 1-0 (16-5)

Match #11: Team EnVyUs CSGO Team Logo Team EnVyUs vs. Gambit Gaming CSGO Team Logo Gambit Gaming

Start Time: (March 30, 09:20 AM PDT / 12:20 PM EDT / 06:20 PM CET)

I am shocked at how there has been little to no progress at all with EnVyUs after their roster change. They still possess a lot of talented players but are not mixing up well lately. Keep in mind that they are the defending Valve Major Champions and they slid this far since winning DreamHack Cluj-Napoca.

Gambit, on the other hand, has the potential to be a good team. They played well against Astralis taking them to 26 rounds yesterday. Combine that with EnVyUs’ prolonged slump, this game could possibly be a 50-50. I see two possible scenarios. The first one will be where EnVyUs outplays Gambit winning 1v1s and using their talent to use. The second one is where EnVyUs will be feeling the pressure into having a bad start to the game and combined with the slump, their mental state will take its toll on them and will be eliminated from the tournament.

EnVyUs (60%) – Gambit (40%)

EnVyUs wins 1-0 (16-8)

Match #12: Cloud9 CSGO Team Logo Cloud9 vs. G2 Esports CSGO Team Logo G2 Esports

Start Time: (March 30, 10:30 AM PDT / 01:30 PM EDT / 07:30 PM CET)

Cloud9 has been performing really well. They have been dominating the NA scene as of late and ran to a roadblock against Na’Vi yesterday. I thought they could’ve pulled it off taking the first 6 rounds in train but as soon as Na’Vi called the timeout, they went from looking like cats who lost their home to a bunch of lions making everything their home. Cloud9 never recovered and lost that match 16-9.

I was not able to watch G2 play against Virtus.pro but judging from the scoreline, things went south real quick with a 16-1 scoreline. Virtus.pro, to me, is an extremely volatile team right up there with FlipSid3 but losing this badly is unacceptable. Even SPLYCE took 5 rounds from fnatic and G2 was suppose to be a decent team. I did watch a few rounds from the game and I saw Virtus.pro looking like the Virtus of old. This will still be a tight knit match as we see an on form NA top team against a decent EU team. I will still be favoring the french skill wise but will be favoring Cloud9 as a unit.

Cloud9 (51%) – G2 (49%)

Cloud9 wins 1-0 (19-17)

Match #13: Ninjas in Pyjamas CSGO Team Logo Ninjas in Pyjamas vs.  Luminosity Gaming CSGO Team Logo Luminosity Gaming

Start Time: (March 30, 11:40 AM PDT / 02:40 PM EDT / 08:40 PM CET)

There is a lot of hype with LG lately and some could capitalize on it. NiP does have a stand-in with pyth being out. Threat is ok but definitely a downgrade from pyth. NiP does have the firepower to take this and maybe if they closed out FlipSid3 quicker and not slipping up eventually forcing that OT, the odds could’ve been different. I would even give the edge to NiP if pyth was playing and looking at their match history, it is undeniable that they stepped it up recently.

LG had a close game with mousesports yesterday and that was what I expected from that match. Mousesports is a scary team to play against as a favorite for the matchup. I see mousesports play well on mirage and LG was able to take them down. I always felt like LG doesn’t match up well with NiP. They lost to NiP in their last H2H in IEM Katowice but it is a bit of a stretch with NiP having a stand-in right now. FalleN will win the AWP matchup here and if they do play in inferno it could be a 50-50.

Match #14: Team Liquid CSGO Team Logo Team Liquid vs. Fnatic CSGO Team Logo Fnatic

Start Time: (March 30, 12:50 PM PDT / 03:50 PM EDT / 09:50 PM CET)

Fnatic is undeniably the best CSGO team after replacing ‘pronax’ with ‘dennis’. They have been on an absolute tear. They have won each tournament they have entered and unfortunately none of those tournaments was a Valve Major. No words but praise for the swedish team and they are looking on point for several months already.

I don’t think Team Liquid will be able to pull another upset here. They played great against FaZe taking cache where FaZe plays decent on. They almost tilted on that CT side but was able to take it eventually from a good FaZe team. It will take everything from these guys to pull out a win against fnatic especially with koosta being out.

Fnatic (80%) – Team Liquid (20%)

Fnatic wins 1-0 (16-9)

Match #15: Counter Logic Gaming CSGO Team Logo Counter Logic Gaming vs. Team Astralis CSGO Team Logo Astralis

Start Time: (March 30, 02:00 PM PDT / 05:00 PM EDT / 11:00 PM CET)

Don’t be fooled about the scoreline CLG pulled against EnVyUs since EnVy is slumping hard. Regardless, it was a good victory for CLG and they needed that one after all those losses to Liquid and LG who I think are currently weaker than Astralis with LG being arguable. reltuC really played well and EnVyUs just struggled all game with no one standing out for their team.

Astralis have tilted a little with their recent runs in big tournaments. They lost to NiP and Na’Vi and have slowly slipped off from that #2 spot as best team. They still have the longest active lineup and it is just a matter of time before they start pounding on teams again.

Astralis (75%) – CLG (25%)

Astralis wins 1-0 (16-7)

Match #16: Natus Vincere CSGO Team Logo Natus Vincere vs. Team Virtus Pro CSGO Team Logo Virtus.pro

Start Time: (March 30, 03:10 PM PDT / 06:10 PM EDT / 12:10 AM CET next day)

For me, this will be the match to get hyped up for and even the bookmakers are slowly swinging the odds giving VP a 2.74 after seeing just one game. It just goes to show how strong VP can be at top form. If you remember ESL Dubai, it could happen here again as Virtus.plow could make a long overdue comeback. G2 is quite an average team but with a lot of great talent. Virtus.pro just plowed through them and just like in ESL Dubai it was the young guys, Snax and byali, top fragging for VP. VP had an abysmal 1-11 record in February and a 6-6 record in March before the match against G2.

Na’Vi are the runner up favorites for this event and I completely agree. They looked tilted at the start of the match against Cloud9 and after a timeout they came out guns blazing only dropping 3 of the next 19 rounds. Na’Vi looks so solid as a team having GuardiaN as their in-game leader as well as being one of the best AWPers out there.

Natus Vincere (50%) – Virtus.pro (50%)

Virtus.pro wins 1-0 (16-13)
