Given the fact that 2017 is gone (and we all have to come to terms with that) and along with it went some rather unsettling memories… for eSports fans the future brings only good news. The industry is still rapidly expanding, reaching out to an even bigger fanbase year in and year out. More and more money is being pumped inside so it’s only logical to see it growing at such a high rate. eSports betting is flourishing too which means the entire industry is heading in the right direction.
With all that in mind, it is only logical to see a couple of statistical information that backs up the above-stated claims. Below you can find a comprehensive list of the Top 10 highest earning eSports teams in 2017. Needless to say, the biggest tournament this year around brought an incredible cca 22% of the total prizes. Of course, we are referring to The International 2017 Dota II which falls into a rank of its own. But, without further adue we are going to show you the full list before diving into the further analysis:
Team Liquid is an absolute winner in this department and it actually isn’t as surprising as most people think. The reason behind their dominance on this chart is quite simple – they’ve won The International 2017. That victory alone won Team Liquid close to $11 million. This just goes to show the sheer importance of the biggest DotA II (and eSports in general) tournament in the world. As a matter of fact, DotA II tournaments brought more than 90% of Team Liquid’s total $13,400,344.32 winnings and swept aside the likes of CS: GO, Overwatch, PUBG, FIFA and many more.
The second-placed Newbee plays a similar story as Team Liquid. They’ve lost in TI2017 finals against them but still emerged with close to $4 million for their placement. The majority of their winnings belong to DotA II tournaments as well. The same goes for third-placed LGD Gaming which has 2 teams that brought in profit from TI2017.
If we take into consideration all the information explained above, it does not take a genius to realize what a gold mine DotA II is. It is by far the best paying eSports title out there which resulted in 6 out of 10 teams from the list having it as the majority of its winnings. OpTic Gaming, Team EnVyUs, and FaZe Clan are still battling it out in CS:GO while LoL only has a single representative – Samsung.
