Preview and Predictions LoL Worlds Day 2

With Cloud9 breaking my perfect prediction streak I’ve managed to correctly predict 5 out of 6 games so far which I’m quite happy with, I’ll be using my knowledge of each region and team to continue predictions for day 2 of the world championship where hopefully we can see some phenomenal games!

Group Stage Day 2 – Match 1: KT Rolster - LCK Team Logo KT Rolster vs. Logo of LCS NA Team TSM Team SoloMid

(Oct. 2nd, 07:00 PDT/ 10:00 EDT/ 16:00 CEST/ 23:00 KST)

TSM have always been a team surrounded by hype but with a recent streak of lacklustre performances can they hold their own against the likes of the likes of the Korean 3rd seed Kt Rolster? Kt Rolster has had a consistently strong performance against the top teams in their Region whereas the 3rd seen from North America, Team Solo Mid, has had a hard time against teams that are seen as significantly weaker. A lot of hype surrounds this match as the ever so famous TSM get to play their first game on the worlds stage against a Korean team, which they have had a bad streak against before. With rumours of TSM being a team that people shouldn’t underestimate we could be expecting a few upsets from them!

Logo of LCS NA Team TSMTSM – have always been a top contender in NA. That was until C9 started to dominate the region. But now they’re back on their strong side with a superstar Mid-laner and Jungler synergy that is difficult to match! After taking their second NA Seed to the worlds stage we’ll need to hope that the rumours of their new found strength are true as they’re in one of the more difficult groups to escape from.

KT Rolster - LCK Team LogoKT Rolster – much like the other Korean teams, KT have had to merge multiple teams into 1. Their progression and improvements are visible as their standings at the beginning of 2015 were not so strong, only holding 5th place. Due to their team improvements they’ve managed to regularly hold a top 2 place in their region and are one of the stronger teams in their group, as far as statistics are concerned.

Both of these teams have apparently made a lot of improvements in the time before the World Championship 2015 and there are rumours that TSM have been holding their own against some of the strongest competing teams however it’s well known that Kt Rolster can do this, if we were to side with rumours then we’ll be assuming that TSM are much stronger than their showing in the NALCS Summer Playoffs where they only managed to take 2nd place after going 0:3 against the likes of Counter Logic Gaming but Kt Rolster have been performing well for quite some time now and If they’ve made improvements, which we can safely assume they have, then it’s more than likely that they at least take the early game against TSM. Team Solo Mid have had a weakness in their early game and with the Top Lane being favoured by the current meta and with Kt Rolster being well versed in applying pressure in the early game we could be looking at a quick match.

Kt Rolster will be applying pressure around the map and pushing even the smallest of advantages that they obtain but TSM might pull out something we’ve not seen from them before! We’re going to want to keep an eye out for early map movements and how both teams handle their vision control because if Kt Rolster get an early lead we can assume they’ll push TSM extremely hard putting them in a difficult situation however TSM have great team fighting and with the likes of “Bjergsen” being in the mid lane they could hold out to their strongest point in the mid and late game where they take team fights.

Prediction: I think this’ll be a close game; both teams have a weakness that the opposing team can take advantage of and if they’ve not improved them via their practice then the win could be decisive. I’ll be predicting Kt Rolster to take the victory here because of their more advanced early game but I think the match could be quite drawn out with TSM staying relevant for quite some time.

Group Stage Day 2 – Match 2: LGD Gaming - LPL Team Logo LGD Gaming vs. Origen - EU LCS Team Logo Origen

(Oct. 2nd, 08:00 PDT/ 11:00 EDT/ 17:00 CEST/ 24:00 KST)

With Origen making a substantial climb from nothing to worlds has generated a huge liking, with “xPeke”, Fnatics previous mid-laner, creating his own team from nothing and powering through the Championship Series and earning a place in the LCS and then working their way through the LCS to earn a place at the World Championship 2015 people are keeping an eye on how well they perform. Although they lost 1st place in the Summer Playoffs to Fnatic they managed to take a few wins during the series which really showed their strength and ability to adapt. Origen managed to take their ticket to the World Championship 2015 by taking an extremely decisive series from the Unicorns of Love by going 3:0 during the EU Regional Qualifiers 2015. LGD are an extremely strong team from the Chinese region who managed to earn their place in the World Championship 2015 by earning the most championship points in their region, they acquired their points by taking 2nd place in the Spring Playoffs and 1st in the Summer Playoffs. Regardless of their mediocre performances during the season they managed to win when it counted and as we all know, the World Championship counts.

LGD Gaming - LPL TeamLGD – Are a consistently performing and extremely strong Chinese team that tend to play aggressive and have shown that they can and will win when it counts. Regardless of their previous performances they’ve managed to take out the other top Chinese teams and have contest 1st place in both playoffs throughout the season. With LGD being the fan favourite from their season we can assume that their strength against teams from other regions is equal at minimum and can expect to see a good showing from them during the World Championship.

Origen - LCS Team LogoOrigen – With Origen being such a young and fresh team built with a few veteran players the fans of the EU teams didn’t expect them to perform so phenomenally but with nothing to lose they crushed their way through teams and qualified for the World Championship after contending for 1st place against an undefeated team in the EU Summer Playoffs and eventually took their ticked to worlds in the Regional Qualifiers where they showed just how strong they are in comparison to other EU teams. A lot of people are unsure of what to expect from OG on an international stage but if they bring their A game they’re going to be a strong contender for the groups stage.

What can we expect? Well LGD aren’t exactly the most consistent team but they’ve always managed to perform, Origen is in the same situation where they only managed to play consistently against lower ranked teams. Both teams have made a lot of improvements lately and have made their overall skill much better but after seeing Fnatic have such a dominating performance against Invictus Gaming in day 1 and with Origen being the only team to contend against them in EU we can assume that they’re a team that should not be underestimated.

Prediction: I’m going to predict an upset for this match, even though LGD are the first Chinese seed I think Origen stand a good chance against them and if they perform as well as they did during the EU Summer Playoffs we’ll be looking at an extremely strong game which could ending in an Origen victory. The Chinese region is strong as an entirety but LGD have had some questionable performances and if they’ve not improved much then their consistency could let them down.

Group Stage Day 2 – Match 3: Bangkok Titans- LoL team Logo Bangkok Titans vs. SK Telecom T1 - LCK Team Logo SK Telecom

(Oct. 2nd, 09:00 PDT/ 12:00 EDT/ 18:00 CEST/ 01:00 KST)

After SKTT1 performing slightly worse than expected in their first groups game vs H2K this game could be the chance for them to show their real power however BKT also had a lacklustre performance which ended in a 20min surrender by them, will this be the chance for them to show just how strong they can be?

SK Telecom T1 - LCK Team LogoSKT T1 – After a slow performance, still ending in their victory, SKTT1 are going to have to prove how strong they really are against BKT because the performance EDG put on was outstanding. If SKTT1 want to convince the crowd and viewers that they really are a top contending team they’re going to have to bring their best and out perform their MSI rivals EDG.

bangkok titans - IWC TurkeyBKT – Bangkok Titans have been grouped with some of the most difficult rivals they could possibly ever face, going against both EDG and SKTT1 who are considered the power house teams of their region. BKT are going to have to prove themselves in this match to show why they’re a contending Worlds Championship team however it won’t come easy.

SKTT1 are a team to beat and BKT are the underdogs of the entire tournament, it will be a difficult task but BKT need to have a good showing here if they want to make it out of groups or even be considered competition. Can they pull off a Kabum!? It’s possible as seeing as they’ve already taken down strong teams, which was how they qualified for the World Championship, they could show a strong performance. SKTT1 however are a team well known for dominating and if they go into the match with the same explosive style as EDG then we could be looking at a quick game.

With consideration for the games that have already been played in the World Championship, SKTT1 are looking like the significantly stronger team. BKT will need to focus and pull them-selves back up, showing up the same way as how they qualified, to stand a chance here.

Prediction: I’ll be siding with SKTT1 here as they’ve already had a pretty good showing on the Worlds Stage whereas BKT have not. This prediction is also taking into consideration both teams’ previous and recent performances but I’d take the BKT vs EDG game with a grain of salt because EDG have also recently taken down SKTT1 in a best of 5 series. Let’s not underestimate BKT completely.

Group Stage Day 2 – Match 4: H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team Logo H2K vs. Edward Gaming - LPL Team Logo Edward Gaming

(Oct. 2nd, 10:00 PDT/ 13:00 EDT/ 19:00 CEST/ 02:00 KST)

This game will give us a good idea of what teams in Worlds Group C are really the strongest. EDG have already had a phenomenal performance on the Worlds stage but H2K also managed to prove a few people wrong after holding their own against SKTT1. They might not have taken the victory but they did manage to show a lot of improvements they’ve made.

Edward Gaming - LPL Team LogoEDG – With an phenomenal performance already under their belt they’re coming into this match on a moral high, a dominating performance already being shown could be the start to their way out of the groups stage in the World Championship 2015.

H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team LogoH2K – They can walk away from their first game with pride, although they didn’t take the victory they’ve proven to the world that they do in fact stand a chance. After proving that they’ve closed off a lot of their weakness they’re going into this game with confidence. With extra consideration for top laners applying pressure I could see this game going in their favour for a while.

EDG are coming into the game as the favourite to take the victory but H2K could pull off an upset here, they’ve show that they can hold their own and gain gold leads against the strongest teams in the world and now they just need to show that they can also capitalise on their advantage. This match shouldn’t be as quick as EDG’s first game and if we give H2K the benefit of the doubt here we could be looking at a 30+ minute game. With hopes that an even stronger H2K show up to this game than their first I’d like to see them really push EDG to their limits to see just how strong both of these teams are.

Such a strong performance can’t be overlooked, from BKTs perspective we should take it with a grain of salt but EDG showed near perfect play where their rotations and ability to pressure and push a gold lead really ended a game extremely quickly and if they manage to pull off something similar against the NA 3rd seed then other teams across the regions could be looking at a troublesome Chinese powerhouse.

Prediction: I’ll be predicting an EDG victory over H2K; because of their superior level of play, EDG have shown that they can perform against other fan favourite teams whereas a lot of doubt looms for H2K. H2K have shown that they can hold their own but that’s very different to taking a victory from a team that’s seen as a top 3 contender.

Group Stage Day 2 – Match 5: Flash Wolves - LMS Team Logo Flash Wolves vs. KOO Tigers - LCK Team Logo Koo Tigers

(Oct. 2nd, 11:00 PDT/ 14:00 EDT/ 20:00 CEST/ 03:00 KST)

With both of these teams having played games where they were met we challenges we’ve got a good idea of their strengths and weaknesses. KOO lost out in an early trade and it really set them behind but their macro decision making and rotations kept them in the game against PaiN, an underdog team who kept KOO on their toes, and eventually allowed them to take the win. Flash Wolves on the other hand played against CLG and lost their game because the late game team fighting of CLG was just more optimal with their team composition. Flash Wolves did however show their ability to keep up regardless of gold, their ability to rotate and capitalise on their enemies position kept them in the game for an extended period of time and allowed them to take advantages over CLG multiple times.

Koo Tigers - LCK Team LogoKOO – If KOO manages to press their advantages early like they did against PaiN then the Flash Wolves could be in trouble. KOO have shown that they are not a team to be messed with, regardless of taking an early disadvantage they played the map with utmost confidence and took every advantage they could take at every opportune moment. With multiple compositions in their pocket we could be seeing some extremely good games coming from the tigers.

Flash Wolves - LMS team logoFW – The Flash Wolves may not have had the most dominating showcase of their strength but considering everyone was saying Group A was going to be a competition between KOO and CLG they really managed to keep everyone on their toes. Taking multiple leads in their game and showing their ability to rotate around objectives could help them press the KOO tigers and take a win.

The game between the Tigers and Wolves is going to go 1 of 2 ways, a team is going to get an early advantage and pressure with extreme aggression taking an early victory with a huge gold advantage or both of these teams are going to match in strength where the game extends to post 30mins and the game will be decided to micro management and team fighting. With both of the teams focusing heavily on the Dragon we can assume that some early game team fighting is going to happen and if either team takes a significant advantage at that point it could end in an extremely decisive victory.

Personally I would like to see this game reach the post 30min point because both of these teams have qualities and strengths that I want to see in action! KOO Tigers are great at collapsing on their enemy teams and the capitalising by taking objectives and the Flash Wolves show great strength and being able to pick off their enemies and rotate around objectives to take advantage. Vision is going to play a huge part in how this game plays out in the early game and we’re more than likely going to see a lot of attention in the top and bottom lanes.

Prediction: It may not be the most popular opinion but I think the Flash Wolves are going to take the game. KOO have had a great showing against PaiN but they ran into so much trouble against what we can assume is the weaker team of the entire group whereas the FW were able to keep the top team on their toes. It’d be great to see an extended game but with how both of these teams play we’re more than likely going to see early aggression and the game ending before the late game hits.

Group Stage Day 2 – Match 6: Logo of LCS NA Team CLG Counter Logic Gaming vs. paiN GAMING - LoL Team Logo paiN Gaming

(Oct. 2nd, 12:00 PDT/ 15:00 EDT/ 21:00 CEST/ 04:00 KST)

Even though CLG took their victory over the Flash Wolves their players claim that they played sloppily and that their next games will show a much more dominating performance. I hope we can see the same from PaiN as they managed to keep the KOO Tigers on their toes for an extended period of time before an eventual loss, which is more than most people expected from this Wild Card team.

Logo of LCS NA Team CLGCLG – Counter Logic Gaming has already shown that their laning is as strong as ever but improvements can still be made, hopefully with them fixing their “Sloppy” play they will show their true strength coming into this game. CLG hold great strength in the Marksman and Top lane roles and their team really moulds to this, with “ZionSpartan” able to play ‘carry’ top laners we could be looking at a dominating performance in the top lane at least. We just need to have Faith.

pain gaming - IWC BrazilPaiN – A team that shouldn’t be disregarded, they managed to keep the Korean 2nd seed team on the edge of their seats as the pulled multiple advantages against them and even out rotated them at multiple stages of the game. If they improve their vision control and keep the early aggression they could take this game from CLG. PaiN has shown that they hold a lot of strength in their middle and bottom lanes and if they manage to gain enough advantage in these roles then they could be looking at their first group stage victory.

For this game early vision control is going to be a key point, CLG will more than likely opt out of lane swapping as their top laner should be able to outmatch the top laner of PaiN however the bottom lane is where we’re going to want to watch. If Brazilian superstar “BrTT” and self-proclaimed best Marksman “Doublelift” go head to head in lane we’re going to want to keep an eye on it as both of them have the ability to pressure and play aggressively when the time calls for it. CLG are going to have to ‘rexpeita’ the strengths of PaiN and not underestimate them as they go into this match because PaiN have shown that they’re not afraid of going aggressive and they will do whatever it takes to take an advantage.

If both of these teams sit on comfortable picks we’ll be seeing early towers going down and diving occurring. If any of this goes wrong for either team then the responding team is going to take a significant early lead; both of these teams know how to translate that into a victory.

Prediction: I’ll be predicting a CLG victory, they’ve shown a good performance already and if what they said is true then we’ll be looking at a great performance from them in this match. PaiN may be able to hold out and stall the game but CLG have also already shown that their late game team fighting is of a phenomenal standard.
