LCS NA Spring Playoffs Preview

The North American LCS has been pretty much all about TSM and Cloud 9. Teams like CLG, Dignitas, and Curse may have brought their A game in the group stage of the LCS but the top two teams have always destroyed them when they needed to. In the early weeks of the Spring Split, Dignitas looked like they were in a very good spot to get to the top but as soon as they took a week off from the stage, the team reverted back to their lackluster performance. Once Dignitas was off the radar, another team surged into the scene. This time it was CLG. CLG floundered during the early weeks of the split but later found a footing in the standings and came in third. Curse and Coast continue to battle it out at the bottom of the standings while EG and XDG fall to relegation zone.

In the upcoming weeks, the Playoffs will start and the team who wins will represent the LCS NA in the LoL All Stars Tournament to be held in Paris, France where they will meet, alongside others the winner of the European LCS Spring Playoffs. The first and second place of the LCS spring split will get a bye into the semifinals while the third through sixth place will play the quarter final matches. Each match will be a best of three series while the finals will be a best of five series. A single elimination standard will be done with the fifth and third place match.

Preview and Predictions EU Playoffs

CLG vs Coast (April 18th 12:00 PDT/ 15:00 EDT/ 21:00 CEST)

Coast needs to bring everything to the table in their match against CLG. Coast needs to strengthen both their bot lane presence and jungle if they want to excel at this match. It is very ironic that both teams are the exact opposite. Coast has a strong mid and top laner while CLG has a weaker top and mid. Meanwhile, CLG has a very strong jungler and bot lane duo while Coast is on the other side of the spectrum. What Coast needs to do is to do champion rotations in order to avoid the stronger duo of the match. The problem is, that is also CLG’s strengths. Coast needs to find a way to outsmart CLG when it comes to champion rotation and surprise them with a mid push wherein Shiphtur can capitalize on. However, if CLG catches up to them, it will be a problem for Coast.

Prediction: Coast will have a hard time beating CLG but can take a game off from them. 2-1 in favor of CLG.

Dignitas vs Curse (April 18th 14:00 PDT/ 17:00 EDT/ 23:00 CEST)

Curse always has a problem when it comes to their matchup against Dignitas. At one point, they were unable to win against Dignitas. The problem with Curse is their lineup. They keep on changing their roster in order to fit the needs of the team but that might not be a good idea in a team that needs to find its synergy. If they can come out of the Playoffs victorious against Dignitas, they need to stick with them team and harness their own strategy from there on out. If they do get back to being relegated, chances are they will be facing one of the toughest teams to beat from the Challenger scene – LMQ. Everyone is dreading to face the imported team from China and if Curse falls during the Playoffs they will surely fall against LMQ or any other Challenger team for that matter.

Prediction: A clean sweep from Dignitas.

Once the Quarterfinals are done, the winners from each match will play against TSM and Cloud 9 on the following day starting at 12:00 PDT/ 15:00 EDT/ 21:00 CEST. The fifth place match will also follow once the games are done. The finals will take place the next day starting with the fight for third place starting at 12:00 PDT/ 15:00 EDT/ 21:00 CEST.
