Yesterday, the semifinal round of the NA LCS Playoffs started with a bang as TSM and LMQ clashed in Summoner’s Rift right in front of hundreds of fans at Pax Prime. In the end, the series ended with a heart pounding fifth game with TSM as the winner. TSM showed up in the stage and destroyed a very strong LMQ who looked like they could take on TSM right from the start. However, TSM was able to destroy LMQ’s dreams in taking part in the Finals. After the exhilarating match between TSM and LMQ, Cloud 9 and Curse took center stage. Everyone thought that Curse would once again play the same as they did against CLG but it was only a matter of time before Cloud 9 showed Curse that they were waiting for this moment to come to get themselves back to winning the entire split even forcing a Surrender at 22 minutes from Curse in the first game. Now, Curse will face LMQ in the battle for the third place and the chance for the last LCS NA ticket to LoL World Championship 2014, while TSM and Cloud 9 will once again face off in the Finals. (Head to Head in Season 4 Summer Split: Curse 3-1 against LMQ)
Curse has had an amazing run in the entire Playoffs. Not only were they able to defeat crowd favorite CLG they also showed up to play the game against Cloud 9 although one might say that it was a stomp from game 1 to game 3 but there were close calls from Curse. Althought they have been portrayed as the underdogs of the Playoffs, Curse is not a team to be underestimated. When they have a good day, they will make sure they stay that way for the entire day and this could happen in their matchup against LMQ. However, with the recent resurgence of LMQ and their dominating prowess during teamfights, Curse might been in trouble but on the other side Curse won the last 3 matches during the regular NA Summer Split Season 2014. We will see if, as they say, Curse is satisfied with being the fourth place team, because having to be in a place near the spotlight should not be enough for a team that has great potential such as Curse. This will be great match indeed!
Prediction: Although the betting odds are strongly favoring LMQ I am not really sure if they can make it considering the Head to Head record against Curse. I would bet on Curse considering the high odds.
NA Summer Playoffs Final: Cloud9 vs. Team SoloMid (2 : 3)
(Sept 1st, 12:00PDT/ 15:00 EDT/ 21:00 CEST)
(Head to Head in Season 4 Summer Split: Cloud9 2-2 against TSM)
It feels like deja vu. TSM (Team SoloMid) once again faces off with long time rival Cloud 9 (C9) in a do or die series for the first place. This has happened last split when Cloud 9 snatched a victory from TSM. This time though, they are even in skills with a very slight advantage to TSM because of their bottom lane synergy. The addition of Lustboy in their roster has changed the dynamics of the bottom lane for TSM. Long ago, Xpecial and Gleeb were great support players but Lustboy is just on another level. He has been one of the main components as to why the team won their match against LMQ. His perfect shields from Braum and perfect bubble and tidal wave with his Nami has sealed the deal for the team to get through to Worlds. This has strengthen the bond between Lustboy and Wildturtle knowing that Lustboy will always have Wildturtle’s back in every teamfight they get in to. With that newly found confidence, TSM will finally have an edge over Cloud 9 and might even look to seal the deal with a 3-1 series. Amazing has expanded his champion pool quite well and Bjergsen is on the road to rising back to the top once more.
On the other hand, Cloud 9 just won’t lie down and die if their reputation is on the line. Hai has had a slump during the middle of the split but found his groove during the last few weeks of the split. Balls and Meteos have always been the most reliable players of the team while Lemonnation and Sneaky are consistent with their game. Cloud 9 is one of the most consistent team in the NA LCS right now that it’s no doubt they can take it all this season but with the addition of a wildcard factor from TSM in Lustboy, it creates a vortex of doubt for Cloud 9 which gives them a shorter hand when it comes to a best of five series. It will take time for them to study their opponents and adapt to their playstyle hence Cloud 9 will have to learn how to do it fast. Nevertheless, they have always been good with best of three and best of five series matches.
Prediction: TSM and Cloud 9 are dead even at this point. Can go either way but expect a full five series for this matchup.
