As the final days of the EU LCS Summer Split unfolds, the team’s standings were finally revealed and one team has already fallen to relegation matches in the upcoming Promotion Tournament. GMB vs CW (July 29 8:00 PDT/ 11:00 EDT/ 17:00 CEST)
(Head to Head record in Season 4 Sumer Split: GMB 1-2 against CW)
There won’t be a lot going on in this match as both teams have been assigned to the Promotion Tournament. However, this will be a match they need to play in order to practice their skills when they are matched against the incoming Challenger teams. They should still treat this as a way of improving their gameplay.
Prediction: Copenhagen Wolves look better right now than Gambit.
ROC vs ALL (July 29 9:00 PDT/ 12:00 EDT/ 18:00 CEST)
(ROC 1-2 against ALL)
Roccat seemed to be out of place in the current meta. At one point, they were at their lowest lows and then surged back to the middle of the pack and now, they are in danger of being relegated. A few more losses this week and things will be grim for the team. Alliance on the other hand have nothing to lose as they will surely be in the Playoffs no matter what. Things will be heated up for Roccat now that their job is at stake. Roccat needs to know what to do with their lead and how they simply need to pick off one opponent and then back off before re-engaging.
Prediction: For now, Alliance continues to climb to the top and would probably beat Fnatic’s record of winning streaks.
CW vs FNC (July 29 10:00 PDT/ 13:00 EDT/ 19:00 CEST)
(CW 0-3 against FNC)
Fnatic has done it again this split. After feeling down and out, they have ultimately turned things around and got back on their feet. This time though, things will be difficult for them as Alliance, Millenium, and even Supa Hot Crew looks to be a solid team. However, on this match, they will be playing against the Copenhagen Wolves. The Wolves have the power in their hands to pull Fnatic down in the standings if they can win this game.
Prediction: However, Fnatic is a better team than Copenhagen Wolves as of the moment so it should be an easy game for them.
TOP Game EU Super Week #3 Day 1
MIL vs SK
(July 29 11:00 PDT/ 14:00 EDT/ 20:00 CEST)
(MIL 2-1 against SK)
Millenium and SK Gaming have been at it since the start of the split. During the first few weeks of the split, both teams have been trying to get to the top spot. While on some weeks, Millenium was ahead there were also other times that SK was ahead. The weeks rolled in and all of a sudden, SK Gaming’s fate has turned. After the second Super Week, things looked grim for the team and now, they are in a spot where they need to fight for their lives. Up against Millenium who has settled well in the current meta of longer laning phase and late game teamfights with a few picks in the mid game, Millenium is indeed adapting well. SK Gaming is also at home with this meta but their execution is mediocre compared to Millenium.
Lane matchups to watch out for: Bottom lane supports. Both Jree and nRated are equally good at supporting their team mates especially Creaton and CandyPanda. If the current meta favors longer laning phase and good teamfighting abilities then these support players need to provide a safe passage for their carries. This is why you often see hypercarries like Kog’maw and Tristana partnered with Morgana, Nami, or Braum as they provide a safe laning phase for the carry. Jree provides a more aggressive pick with Leona but is equally adept with Nami and Morgana while nRated is much better with Braum and Thresh. However, nRated has the better statistics of the two with a 4.11 KDA against Jree’s 3.14. This goes to show that nRated has a better balance of being aggressive and defensive in terms of laning phase than Jree. Whatever the case is, expect these two to fight over wards, provide good amount of peeling, and make plays all over the map.
Prediction: Millenium is a much stronger team overall when it comes to solid laning phase and teamfights.
FNC vs SHC (July 29 12:00 PDT/ 15:00 EDT/ 21:00 CEST)
(FNC 1-2 against SHC)
Fnatic lost their winning streak when they were up against Alliance but it did not stop them from providing enough pressure and kill potential. However, Alliance was much better in turtling and setting up objective control than Fnatic. Fnatic slowly lost control of the game when they let Alliance control the objectives. Fnatic was too busy trying to get some kills when they need to push towers and extend their lead. This week, they need to play the objective game while maintaining their lead in order to grab a few more wins before the Playoffs.
Prediction: If Fnatic plays the objective control game, they have a far better chance of winning the game.
Preview and Predictions LCS EU Super Week #3 Day 2
ROC vs SHC (July 30 8:00 PDT/ 11:00 EDT/ 17:00 CEST)
(ROC 1-2 against SHC)
Prediction: SHC has better teamfighting if they can stall the game to late game.
ALL vs GMB (July 30 9:00 PDT/ 12:00 EDT/ 18:00 CEST)
(ALL 2-1 against GMB)
Prediction: Although Gambit’s win against Alliance was a fluke, Alliance has already won this match.
ROC vs CW (July 30 10:00 PDT/ 13:00 EDT/ 19:00 CEST)
(ROC 2-1 against CW)
Roccat will need this win in order to move up in the standings. Copenhagen Wolves is already on a tilt with the drama since last week and Roccat can take advantage of it to earn another point.
Prediction: Roccat wins.
TOP Game EU Super Week #3 Day 2
SK vs ALL
(July 30 11:00 PDT/ 14:00 EDT/ 20:00 CEST)
(SK 0-3 against ALL)
SK Gaming is on the verge of breaking down especially now that they are in danger of relegation. SK Gaming seem to have lost their essence of early game by giving away kills for the team. Now that they are against Alliance, they need to avoid that from happening as Alliance is known to snowball the lane and the game out of proportion. It will be a tough week for SK but it will define them as a team. If they lose one more game after this, their nightmare is just a step away from them and they will have to fight for their lives once more.
GMB vs MIL (July 30 12:00 PDT/ 15:00 EDT/ 21:00 CEST)
(GMB 0-3 against MIL)
Gambit is forced to fight for their lives in the LCS this split. It is often a headscratcher as to why one of the most prolific teams in the LCS have crashed and burned at the start of this split. Some may account their sudden loss of heart when Alex Ich left the team but all signs were pointing to a massive blowout at the end of last split even before their midlaner left the team. Gambit Gaming already has a tight travelling schedule and the team was plagued by visa issues left and right. Gambit needs to fix their problem internally first before they can regain their momentum as a team. It may be safe to say now that they might even consider becoming a Challenger team before their comeback can happen.
Prediction: Millenium secures a win.
SK vs FNC (July 30 13:00 PDT/ 16:00 EDT/ 22:00 CEST)
(SK 1-2 against FNC)
Fnatic is in the sweet second spot right now but their problem now is how they can break through to the top spot and beat Alliance in order to secure their fourth time as the champions of the split. This match will most likely draw them closer to that spot but Alliance will also move up in the standings. SK on the other hand will have more to lose in this match as the team will make desperate measures to gain a win.
Prediction: The odds are stacked against SK however, if they play it right they might gain an advantage but ultimately, they will falter near the end.
Preview and Predictions LCS EU Super Week #3 Day 3
GMB vs SK (July 31 8:00 PDT/ 11:00 EDT/ 17:00 CEST)
(GMB 1-2 against SK)
SK’s last match of the split before the Playoffs will be their saving grace. Whether or not they can manage to get a win from their previous games, this game will most likely end up giving SK a win. But whether or not this will help them in the standings will still be up in the air as the previous matches are far more important than this match. SK needs to find their footing fast before all is lost in this split. After starting out strong, they once again fall flat on their faces at the end of the split. Hopefully, SK will find their place in this week as they still have the potential to be the top tier teams of the region.
Prediction: SK Gaming gets a win.
SHC vs MIL (July 31 9:00 PDT/ 12:00 EDT/ 18:00 CEST)
(SHC 1-2 against MIL)
Both teams are head to head when it comes to the game and their standings in the split clearly states that. However, Supa Hot Crew is slowly reaching their potential especially after last week when they once again won two games in a row. The addition of Kasing has clearly been a good choice for the team and they can only move forward. This might put a setback in Millenium’s plan but their spot in the Playoffs is already been etched.
Prediction: Can go both ways.
FNC vs ROC (July 31 10:00 PDT/ 13:00 EDT/ 19:00 CEST)
(FNC 3-0 against ROC)
Prediction: Fnatic flat out wins this game.
SHC vs CW (July 31 11:00 PDT/ 14:00 EDT/ 20:00 CEST)
(SHC 3-0 against CW)
Prediction: Supa Hot Crew scraps a win before the end of the day.
TOP Game EU Super Week #3 Day 3
ALL vs MIL
(July 31 12:00 PDT/ 15:00 EDT/ 21:00 CEST)
(ALL 2-1 against MIL)
Alliance is already ahead of the standings from the rest of the group and they already secure a spot at the Playoffs. There are even rumors that they may take a spot at Worlds this year after their buildup over the course of the season. For the last time this split, Alliance have shown once more that they are indeed the Super Team that the European region has touted for since the start of the season. They have gone a long way since the start of the Spring split when they would only week on even numbered weeks and lose at odd numbered weeks. Gone are the days that they play as if they were on a solo queue match and the team has stepped up to become one of the best European teams in the LCS Stage. Tabzz has made a great effort since last split when he was partnered with Nyph at the last second. Meanwhile, Millenium has also improved a lot this split after their abysmal performance last split. They have evaded relegation and started out strong early and maintained their standing throughout the entire split. They have even garnered notoriety for having a really strong laning phase in which the meta favored currently. The reason behind Millenium’s rise is not because of the meta but how cohesive the team has become since the start of the split. Some may attribute it to the meta but it is just a small factor for Millenium. Based on their current statistics, Millenium has maintained their statistics all throughout the entire split even when they dropped to fifth place during Week 7. In fact, Kerp is the only player in the LCS to have MVP of the Week twice.
Lane matchups to watch out for: Midlane. Kerp has performed better this split with two MVP under his belt while Froggen has completely become the team’s captain and the physical embodiment that is Alliance. However, stats don’t lie as Froggen completely outclass Kerp in all aspects of the game with a 7.44 ratio against Kerp’s 4.01 and a 397.49 gold per minute against Kerp’s average of 375.74. And while statistics do show that Froggen is the better player, the flashy plays and the entertainment value that both of these players bring to the screen is invaluable. Both of these players know how to wow the audience with their flashy moves and their teamfighting abilities especially with Anivia and Twisted Fate. Both teams will most likely try to ban each other out but both players have an immense champion pool that no matter who they ban, one specific champion will make its way into their hands.
Prediction: A tough match to predict but the entertainment value will always be up a notch when both teams are matched up.
