EU Challenger Series 2014 Playoffs Recap

The end of the season means that the time has come for Challenger teams to make it a point to get onto the LCS Stage for next season. For the European Challenger scene, there have been highs and lows for the teams as crowd favorite Ninjas in Pyjamas, a team that included former Gambit Gaming midlaner Alex Ich, dropped to fourth place after getting destroyed by the likes of SK Prime and Unicorns of Love. As for which teams gained the right to challenge the relegated teams from the EU LCS, find out here on our EU Challenger recap.

During the entire Summer, Challenger teams have been hard at work earning series points in order to gain access to the tournament after a series of games. In the end, six teams rose to the challenge and collected enough series points in order to play the tournament. Unicorns of Love, Reason Gaming, SK Prime, Gamers 2, H2k-Gaming, and Ninjas in Pyjamas all acquired the minimum possible points to play for the tournament. Ninjas in Pyjamas took the top spot with 17 points followed by H2k-Gaming with 16 and Gamers 2 with 13 as well as SK Prime with 13. Reason Gaming had 4 points while Unicorns of Love inched out 3 points.

During the Playoffs, SK Prime destroyed Reason Gaming in a best of three series winning every game. Unicorns of Love also showed up to play with winning their series 2-1 against Gamers 2. Soon, SK Prime took the stage to challenge top Challenger team Ninjas in Pyjamas who have been hard at work as they try to regain their spot in the LCS since last season. However, the favorites dropped the ball when SK Prime won the series 2-1. H2k soon challenge Unicorns of Love and after a grueling set of games, H2k came out strong and ended the series 2-1. In the game for third place match, it was a do-or-die series for Ninjas in Pyjamas as they tried their best to give it their all in this best of five series against Unicorns of Love. But, Ninjas in Pyjamas was not meant to be in LCS Stage next year. However, they can still try to get a spot once more for the Summer split next season.

In the final match of the Challenger series, H2k edge out SK Prime and won the top spot winning three out of the five games in a best of five series.

Now, the top three teams from the Challenger scene will be matched up against the relegated teams from the EU LCs during the 2015 EU LCS Spring Promotion Tournament.

On September 9th, Copenhagen Wolves will try to secure their spot in the LCS against H2k-Gaming. The following day, September 10th, Gambit Gaming will face off against SK Gaming Prime, and on September 11th, Millenium will be matched against Unicorns of Love. All matches will be done in a best of five series. Games will be played in the LCS Studios in California for both NA and EU Spring Promotion Tournament.
