Week 5 – NA LCS Spring Split 2018

After the first day of this week, the regular split of the NA LCS 2018 is already halfway over. The last weeks showed us that Cloud9 and Echo Fox are still the great favorites for the title, as they both head the tables with 7 wins out of 8 games. In the 5th week, these two teams will finally meet again and C9 will look for vengeance after the defeat in the first duel. TSM as well will look for redemption, as they face Clutch Gaming on the second day of this week. In the last week, they suffered a painful defeat and are now equally placed with CG. FlyQuest and OpTic Gaming still have chances to reach the playoffs, but they will have to make a positiv score this week, which is only possible for one of these teams, as they face each other on the second day. The 6 best teams of the regular split get to participate in the playoffs, but only the best one qualifies for the Mid-Season Invitational 2018. Week 5 of the Season 8 NA LCS Spring Split starts on February 17, 2018 at 11 PM CEST, but notice that the starting times of the sunday games have changed! Schedule and Results – 2018 LCS NA Spring Split Week 5

The last week had some great upsets. While 100 Thieves surprisingly went 0-2, the Golden Guardians were able to win their first game in the NA LCS. Cloud9 and Echo Fox are still on top of the standings as both of them were able to beat Team Liquid. TSM is still struggling and was defeated by Clutch Gaming in a crazy game where Apollo managed to steal Baron as Ezreal. In the 5th week, we will get to see the encounter between C9 and Echo Fox to find out, which team is the best in North America.

NA LCS 2018 Week 5 Clutch Gaming vs Team SoloMidMatch #1: Clutch Gaming NA LCS 2018 Team Logo Clutch Gaming vs. Team SoloMid Team Logo TSM NA LCS 2018 small

February 18th, 2018: 00:00 PM PST / 03:00 PM EST / 21:00 CET

Prediction: In the last week's match these two opponents already met on Summoner's Rift and after an exciting game Cluch Gaming turned the hand once again and was able to secure the victory. If you take a look at the rosters of these two teams the players of Clutch Gaming are clearly inferior to the superstars of Team SoloMid – only Midlaner Febiven can compete with his direct counterpart Bjergsen. The chemistry between the TSM players is getting better and better from week to week and in the last clash it was almost enough for the challengers to win – if it wasn't for Apollo stealing a lot of objectives as Ezreal. Keeping that in mind I expect in the first game of the day a close 1-0 victory for Team SoloMid.

NA LCS 2018 Week 5 Team Liquid vs Golden GuardiansMatch #2: Team Logo Liquid Team Liquid vs. Golden Guardians Golden Guardians NA LCS 2018 Team Logo

February 18th, 2018: 01:00 PM PST / 04:00 PM EST / 22:00 CET

Prediction: After two bitter defeats against Echo Fox and Cloud9 in the last week of the 2018 Spring Split the Team Liquid players seem to lose ground and the two direct opponents were able to break away in the standings. Especially in the duel against Cloud9 Doublelift and his team-mates couldn't convince their fans and were easily declassified. The Golden Guardians finally were ablet to score a victory after a long time of trepidation and many unsuccessful weeks – the 100 Thieves were no obstacle for Hai and Co. However, the Golden Guardians are still found on the bottom of the standings and Team Liquid is currently among the top 3 teams of the league, so I expect a clean 1-0 victory for Team Liquid.

NA LCS 2018 Week 5 Echo Fox vs Cloud9Match #3: Team Logo Echo Fox NA LCS 2018 small Echo Fox vs. Cloud9 Team Logo Cloud9

February 18th, 2018: 02:00 PM PST / 05:00 PM EST / 23:00 CET

In the NA LCS Week 5 game of the week the two currently strongest North American LCS teams clash against each other on Summoner's Rift: Echo Fox and Cloud9. Both challengers hold a record of seven victories and one defeat coming into Week 5 and thus were able to keep a little ahead of their opponents in the standings. Almost nothing stands in the way of these two teams moving into the playoff phase of the Spring Split but this duel could easily set the pace for a possible playoff ranking. For Cloud9 especially this duel is very exciting as they had to admit their only defeat of the season against this Echo Fox iteration. Strategically, Sneaky and his teammates are delivering a brilliant season, the pick-and-ban phases of the team including coach reapered are on point and they seem to properly analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the meta-game every week. The playing style of two Cloud9 players has also changed radically this season: jungler Svenskeren finally has the backing of his team to play more aggressive carry-oriented champions and midlaner Jensen doesn't try to make up his mind to win single-handed matches for his team anymore but instead helps his fellow team-mates on the sidelanes to win their direct duels and snowball into easy victories. The performances of the rookie toplaner Licorice are also very positive, he doesn't seem to show any nervousness on the big LCS stage. On the Echo Fox team two players deserve special mention: toplaner Huni and jungler Dardoch. The reformed superstar adapted his more carry-oriented champion pool to his team's needs this season and can now also convince on champions like Sejuani or Zac. Huni, on the other hand, often sacrifices the early stages of the game for the benefit of late game heroes such as Gangplank and trusts his team in many risky moves. Generally speaking, you get the feeling that Echo Fox is also willing to take on riskier manoeuvres which would cost other teams a lot of victories but the quality of the individual players almost always makes these risky moves successful. Against stronger teams such as Cloud9, however, this style of play could easily backfire, Jensen and his team-mates always weigh their chances in team fights very carefully.

Prediction: The Echo Fox team has already won this duel once before but since then Huni and Co have had to learn that they are not invulnerable. These two teams meet on the same level and the form of the day will decide between victory and defeat. Due to the more consistent performances of the North American bedrock in the last few weeks I expect a close 0-1 victory for Cloud9.

NA LCS 2018 Week 5 100 Thieves vs Counter Logic GamingMatch #4: 100 Thieves NA LCS 2018 Team Logo 100 Thieves vs. Counter Logic Gaming Team Logo CLG DreamHack Montreal 2017

February 18th, 2018: 03:00 PM PST / 06:00 PM EST / 00:00 CET (the next day)

Prediction: Only one victory separates these two teams in the standings and the challengers of 100 Thieves are still ahead of their opponents. Counter Logic Gaming got off to a very bad start into the 2018 Spring Split but they were able to inflict the one and only defeat of the split to leader Echo Fox. In general, the team seems to go into every game with a cleverly devised game plan but in the end it mostly fails because of their poor execution. Both teams now have to set their course for victory again if they do not want to let the potential playoff spot slip away. Due to the recent performances I expect a narrow 0:1 victory for Counter Logic Gaming.

NA LCS 2018 Week 5 FlyQuest vs OpTic GamingMatch #5: FlyQuest NA LCS 2018 Team Logo FlyQuest vs. OpTic Gaming Optic Gaming NA LCS 2018 Team Logo

February 18th, 2018: 04:00 PM PST / 07:00 PM EST / 01:00 CET (the next day).

Prediction: Also these two challengers are separated by only one victory but the FlyQuest team seems to have finally found a little more stability with Fly in the midlane. In some situations the team seems like a playoff candidate but there is still a long way to go. OpTic Gaming, on the other hand, had a tough schedule in the last few weeks and especially the combination of AD-Carry Arrow and support player LemonNation in the botlane seems to be infertile due to their different playing styles. Of course, PowerOfEvil and his teammates could be able to walk out of Summoner's Rift with their heads raised and another victory in their bags but in the end I expect a close 1-0 victory for FlyQuest.

NA LCS Spring Split 2018 – Week 5 | Day 1

NA LCS 2018 Week 5 TL vs CLGMatch #1: Team Logo Liquid Team Liquid vs. Counter Logic Gaming Team Logo CLG DreamHack Montreal 2017

February 17th, 2018: 02:00 PM PST / 05:00 PM EST / 23:00 CET

Team Liquid hasn't had much to blame for before week 4 and was in the middle of the race for first place in the standings, but the two defeats against their direct rivals Cloud9 and Echo Fox put the team back a bit. Hopes are still high, however, as the gap to said two teams is only 2 points, and TSM, the co-favorite, is still positioned behind Liquid. This week, CLG and the Golden Guardians offer much easier tasks. Prior to the season, Counter Logic Gaming was among NA LCS's top 5 according to the bookmakers, but after only 3 wins out of 8 games, the team has to make sure that they even end up inside the playoff slots after the second half of the split. Hardly any other team brings such inconsistent performances, after the victory against Echo Fox in week 3 followed the defeat against OpTic Gaming in week 4, both results came as a complete surprise. Team Liquid, on the other hand, has still one of North America's best players in every position, with Pobelter being outstanding in the Mid Lane and Doublelift as AD Carry. The new patch has also brought only small changes but did not tilt the meta of the last few weeks, so we will be able to see Impact again on an aggressive champion, even though he didn't performed too well against Cloud9 on his Gangplank in the previous week.

Prediction: Team Liquid's quality is evident, and the team will continue to fight for the title of NA LCS Spring Split 2018. All indications are that you can add another game to their list of “Under 30 Minutes Matches”. I expect a 1-0 victory for Team Liquid.

NA LCS 2018 Week 5 100 vs FoxMatch #2: 100 Thieves NA LCS 2018 Team Logo 100 Thieves vs.  Echo Fox Team Logo Echo Fox NA LCS 2018 small

February 17th, 2018: 03:00 PM PST / 06:00 PM EST / 00:00 CET (the next day)

Prediction: After all the expectations that experts had placed in the 100 Thieves, the team now seems to be weaker than most other teams in North America. Despite a seemingly easy fourth week with FlyQuest and the Golden Guardians on the schedule, the team suffered two defeats. Echo Fox, on the other hand, presented themselves at the absolute top level and crushed their co-favorites Team Liquid. So it's quite clear: 0-1 victory for Echo Fox.

NA LCS 2018 Week 5 Cloud9 vs TSMMatch #3: Team Logo Cloud9 Cloud9 vs. Team SoloMid Team Logo TSM NA LCS 2018 small

February 17th, 2018: 04:00 PM PST / 07:00 PM EST / 01:00 CET (the next day)

The top game of the evening will be presented this week not as the last one but already as game #3, because the late hours in Europe were attracting too few spectators. The encounter between Cloud9 and Team SoloMid has taken place many times in recent years, including the grand final of the NA LCS Spring Playoffs 2017, where TSM was crowned North American Champion. Both teams are among the top favourites year after year, and once again the direct encounter will provide a great indication of who can be top of the list at the end of the split. Cloud9 has done an excellent job in the past few weeks and has been unbeaten for 5 games, while Team SoloMid is still struggling and has suffered defeats from weaker teams like Clutch Gaming. Jungler MikeYeung disappoints after the high expectations of him, same is true for the European Bot Lane, while Bjergsen is currently the only glimmer of hope. But in a best-of-1, everything is possible and maybe this time it's Zven, who with an Ezreal Q secures the Baron Nashor and the victory for his team. Also important to note that Jungler Svenskeren from Cloud9 will meet his old Team, as he has been playing for TSM for the last few years. Make sure you have an eye on his performance in this thrilling match.

Prediction: The bookmakers see Cloud9 as slight favorites, but less clearly than the NA LCS table would suggest. Everyone knows that when these two teams meet, a crazy game is guaranteed. I think, however, that this TSM is one of the weakest in recent years and therefore has no good chance of competing with C9 this year. I therefore expect a 1-0 victory for Cloud9.

NA LCS 2018 Week 5 CG vs FlyMatch #4:Clutch Gaming NA LCS 2018 Team Logo Clutch Gaming vs. FlyQuest FlyQuest NA LCS 2018 Team Logo

February 17th, 2018: 05:00 PM PST / 08:00 PM EST / 02:00 CET (the next day)

Prediction: Not only did Clutch Gaming achieve a 2-0 score last week, but Team SoloMid was also defeated in a thrilling match with Baron steal by Apollo . But FlyQuest has also been at a top level since Mid Laner Fly has joined the team. I'm therefore afraid that it won't be enough for the guys from Clutch Gaming and I'm expecting a 0-1 victory for FlyQuest.

NA LCS 2018 Week 5 Optic vs GGSMatch #5: Optic Gaming NA LCS 2018 Team Logo OpTic Gaming vs. Golden Guardians Golden Guardians NA LCS 2018 Team Logo

February 17th, 2018: 06:00 PM PST / 09:00 PM EST / 03:00 CET (the next day).

Prediction: Both OpTic Gaming and the Golden Guardians can be satisfied with their performances last week. While OpTic surprisingly managed to knock out CLG, the Guardians scored their first victory of the split against no one less than the much-praised 100 Thieves. Nevertheless, I think the team around PowerOfEvil is a bit stronger and I expect a 1-0 victory for OpTic Gaming.
