Week 3 – NA LCS Spring Split 2018

We are already heading into the third week of the NA LCS Spring Split 2018, which mean that one third of the regular season is already over in a few days. The second week of the season has again brought some major surprises. OpTic Gaming has been victorious for the first time this split when they managed to beat FlyQuest. Team SoloMid was only partially able to defuse the situation – after a win on day one of the second week’s matchday, TSM suffered a painful defeat to the unbeaten squad from Echo Fox. The new season shows impressively that the games are much harder to predict due to the best-of-1 format, as a single mistake in a 50-minute match can decide the whole matchday. The best North American team will therefore be particularly pleased to experience a best-of-3 at the Mid-Season Invitational 2018.  Week 3 of the NA LCS Spring Split starts on February 3rd, 2018 at 11:00 PM CEST so don’t miss turning on your live streams for more League of Legends action on Summoner’s Rift.

Schedule and Results – 2018 LCS NA Spring Split Week 3

For Team SoloMid it’s time to get into top gear and back into the playoff ranks. After only one win in four games, the Golden Guardians are  still without victory and presumably the perfect opponent to start the third week of play, and TSM players are undoubtedly thirsty for self-confidence. With the exception of the Golden Guardians, each team was now able to earn at least one victory, which was particularly important for Counter Logic Gaming and OpTic Gaming in the second week.

NA LCS 2018 Week 3 CLG vs Echo FoxMatch #1: Team Logo CLG DreamHack Montreal 2017 Counter Logic Gaming vs. Echo Fox Team Logo Echo Fox NA LCS 2018 small

February 3rd, 2018: 02:00 PM PST / 05:00 PM EST / 23:00 CET

While Echo Fox is flying high, Counter Logic Gaming had a really bad start into this split. After last week’s victory over the Golden Guardians, the team are now hoping to have begun a turnaround though, but the odds against the current sole leader of the standings are pretty low. Top Laner Huni and Support Adrian makes one think back to their time at the Immortals, where they almost reached a perfect regular split and could only be defeated by one team in the best-of-1 at that time – Counter Logic Gaming. On the part of CLG, not much has changed since then; instead of Xmithie, ReignOver is now roaming through the jungle (who was also in the roster of the Immortals with Huni) and the team’s supporter is no longer Aphromoo but Biofrost. I don’t really consider the qualitative difference between Counter Logic Gaming and Echo Fox as being too high, but the latter have a run at the moment and can do almost anything, even the legendary Top Lane Lucian by Huni could not be punished. With Darshan, however, he has an experienced opponent and must be careful not to be targeted by his former team mate ReignOver, because due to the meta with offensive top lane champions such as Gnar or Gangplank, which suits Huni, the junglers have to invest a lot of time to create an advantage there. Dardoch of CLG has proven to be extremely reliable and cooperated very well with the team so far, which also made the comeback possible after a huge deficit against Team SoloMid in the second week.

Prediction: Echo Fox shows at the moment that they are able to manage different situations and control their opponent in the early game, but can also act out of an unfavourable situation and fight themselves back into the game. CLG’s players have yet to overcome their little crisis and show whether they deserve to participate in the playoffs in spring. In any case, I expect a clear 0-1 victory for Echo Fox.

NA LCS 2018 Week 3 C9 vs OpTicMatch #2: Team Logo Cloud9 Cloud9 vs. OpTic Gaming Optic Gaming NA LCS 2018 Team Logo

February 3rd, 2018: 03:00 PM PST / 06:00 PM EST / 00:00 CET (the next day)

Prediction: Cloud9 has only been beaten by Echo Fox’s super team so far and otherwise gave the impression of a team deserving to advance to the very top of the final table. In any case, it is necessary for a title contender to easily defeat an opponent like OpTic Gaming. Arrow and Co. didn’t really get going yet and are in the penultimate place of the table, even though they won against FlyQuest. I expect a clear 1-0 victory for Cloud9.

NA LCS 2018 Week 3 CG vs 100Match #3: Clutch Gaming NA LCS 2018 Team Logo Clutch Gaming vs. 100 Thieves 100 Thieves NA LCS 2018 Team Logo

February 3rd, 2018: 04:00 PM PST / 07:00 PM EST / 01:00 CET (the next day)

Clutch Gaming and 100 Thieves are both teams that haven’t found a constant form yet and still have plenty of room for improvement. Up to now, Clutch Gaming has achieved a 1:1 score every week, with an impressive pentakill from Mid Laner Febiven being achieved in the second week. CG’s schedule has not been the easiest so far, as the two defeats were brought by Echo Fox and Team Liquid – both favourites for the title win in the Spring Split. Against the 100 Thieves there is now the possibility of a real measurement of strength at approximately the same level. In the last week against Cloud9, however, the 100 Thieves revealed some weaknesses, as Jungler Meteos was already caught on the wrong foot very often in the early stages of the game and could hardly influence his lanes with his Zac. Ryu also seemed to have big problems when he was put under pressure by his opponent early on and received a visit from the enemy jungler. I see an advantage for the 100 Thieves on Bot Lane, where with Cody Sun and Aphromoo two very experienced and in the past successful players meet Apollo and Hakuho. The latter two have been in business for many years too, but they have had little to show for the time being, while at least twice in Apollo’s case it was enough for fourth place in NA LCS playoffs. The South Korean Ssumday is also clearly superior to his counterpart Solo. In his homeland, Ssumday was considered one of the best Top Laner in the world for a long time, only Smeb was considered even higher.

Prediction: With the playful quality of the 100 Thieves, Clutch Gaming should stand out from the midfield of the table and prove that the team should be among the top three in NA LCS. The synergy between Meteos and Ryu should be the focus of the coaching staff and hopefully has improved compared to the previous week. Clutch Gaming needs a good start to the game and mustn’t leave the 100 Thieves in control, because then the team can quickly show its strong side. In any case, I expect a 0-1 victory for the 100 Thieves.

NA LCS 2018 Week 3 Flyquest vs LiquidMatch #4: FlyQuest NA LCS 2018 Team Logo FlyQuest vs.  Team Liquid Team Logo Liquid

February 3rd, 2018: 05:00 PM PST / 08:00 PM EST / 02:00 CET (the next day)

Prediction: Even after the defeat in the second week against the 100 Thieves, Team Liquid can still be considered the top favourite of the NA LCS 2018. Doublelift and Co. have nothing to fear against the FlyQuest players, I expect a fast game and a clear 0:1 victory for Team Liquid.

NA LCS 2018 Week 3 TSM vs GGSMatch #5: Team Logo TSM NA LCS 2018 small Team SoloMid vs. Golden Guardians Golden Guardians NA LCS 2018 Team Logo

February 3rd, 2018: 06:00 PM PST / 09:00 PM EST / 03:00 CET (the next day)

Prediction: Team SoloMid scored their first victory last week and for a long time looked like the sure winner against Echo Fox. With the Golden Guardians, an apparently easy opponent is now waiting, because especially the Bot Lane with Rookie Deftly will lose out to Zven and Mithy. I expect a 1-0 victory for Team SoloMid.

NA LCS Spring Split 2018 – Week 3 | Day 2

NA LCS 2018 Week 3 Echo Fox vs OpticMatch #1: Team Logo Echo Fox NA LCS 2018 small Echo Fox vs. OpTic Gaming Optic Gaming NA LCS 2018 Team Logo

February 4rd, 2018: 02:00 PM PST / 05:00 PM EST / 23:00 CET

Prior to the start of the third week of the NA LCS Spring Split 2018 the Echo Fox’s superstars are the sole front-runners at the top end of the table and their performances to date underline their dominance in the North American LCS. In the squad of former basketball player Rick Fox all players are currently distinguished by excellent performances on Summoner’s Rift but two players stand out in particular. On the one hand we have Huni in the toplane who with all his experience gathered in South Korea with the SK Telecom T1 team now dominates his opponents in the North American LCS and makes even toplane stars like Hauntzer look old – on the other hand Dardoch impresses with brilliant engages and sophisticated strategies in the jungle. Huni has the bigger carry potential but these two teammates are currently battling for the NA LCS MVP title in Spring Split 2018. Both Team SoloMid and Cloud9 were swept out of Summoner’s Rift and in Week 2 the Echo Fox team was also able to prove that they can easily convert a deficit in the early stages of the game into a win. Their opponents on the second day are the professional players of OpTic Gaming. If you take a look at the current NA LCS table you will find PowerOfEvil and his team with only one victory and three defeats in the penultimate place. Despite some big names like AD-Carry Arrow and the strong Akaadian of the last season the team doesn’t really harmonize and only against FlyQuest the challengers could prevail. In the duel against Echo Fox especially Zig will be declassified by superstar Huni’s toplane presence and all signs point to another victory for the favourites.

Prediction: David against Goliath – already in the biblical fight this duel did not end well for the favourite. However, we are now writing the year 2018 and a victory for the underdog in this match would be a huge surprise. Huni and his team-mates are currently dominating the NA LCS and I expect in this duel a clear 1-0 victory for Echo Fox.

NA LCS 2018 Week 3 TSM vs 100ThievesMatch #2: Team Logo TSM NA LCS 2018 small Team SoloMid vs. 100 Thieves 100 Thieves NA LCS 2018 Team Logo

February 4rd, 2018: 03:00 PM PST / 06:00 PM EST / 00:00 CET (the next day)

In what is probably the most exciting match of the day Team SoloMid and the 100 Thieves clash against each other on Summoner’s Rift. The much-praised roster of the North American record holder started unexpectedly bad with two defeats in Week 1 into the Spring Split 2018 but the performances of the team increase from match to match. The meta game is supposed to flatter the botlane duo with scaling late game champions but AD-Carry Zven could as yet convince the Leauge of Legends fans only to a limited extent. Support player mithy and MikeYeung in the jungle also seem to be out of place at times and die casually in the enemy territory. Toplaner Hauntzer and superstar Bjergsen play solidly but lack the dominance of the last seasons. If the squad of outstanding individual players finally harmonizes and becomes a team the North American LCS could tremble under the brilliance of this roster and finally achieve international success. However, there is still a long way to go until then and Team SoloMid has to develop continuously in the course of the season. The 100 Thieves, on the other hand, started the new season with three victories and only one defeat, finishing second behind Echo Fox. The South Korean duo of mastermind Ryu and the mechanically gifted Ssumday in the toplane have already won games for their team and the botlane around Cody Sun and aphromoo are also convincing, especially in the laning phase. Only Meteos in the jungle is still a small question mark for the team, in some games he dies casually by running into a group of enemies. In spite of the big differences in the standings these two opponents meet on an equal footing and an exciting game awaits us.

Prediction: The tide has turned and finally the successful SoloMid team crashed in regard of the betting odds. Now it’s time to correct mistakes and fight for victories. The 100 Thieves are an unpleasant opponent but Team SoloMid’s players showed against Echo Fox that they can keep up with the strongest teams in the league. I expect an exciting duel and a 1-0 victory for Team SoloMid.

NA LCS 2018 Week 3 Golden Guardians vs Team LiquidMatch #3: Golden Guardians NA LCS 2018 Team Logo Golden Guardians vs. Team Liquid Team Logo Liquid

February 4rd, 2018: 04:00 PM PST / 07:00 PM EST / 01:00 CET (the next day)

Prediction: After a disappointing start into the season the Golden Guardians’ coach Locodoco also had to toss the towel and the winless challengers will now start with an interim coach in Week 3. On the second matchday they have to play Team Liquid, one of the strongest teams in the Spring Split. The odds are very long for a victory for Hai and his team-mates and I expect a clean 0-1 victory for Team Liquid.

NA LCS 2018 Week 3 CG vs Cloud9Match #4: Clutch Gaming NA LCS 2018 Team Logo Clutch Gaming vs. Cloud9 Team Logo Cloud9

February 4rd, 2018: 05:00 PM PST / 08:00 PM EST / 02:00 CET (the next day)

Prediction: Only one victory separates Clutch Gaming from Cloud9 in the standings but the team of Clutch Gaming seems to be clearly inferior to the North American bedrocks. Apollo and Hakuho belong to the weaker botlanes of the league, only Febiven and Lira in the jungle hold the flag high in favor of the challengers. Without many restrictions jungler Svenskeren can finally bloom in Cloud9’s roster and rookie Licorice doesn’t seem to have any problems getting started in NA LCS. The duel of the European midlaners will be exciting but I expect a 1-0 victory for Cloud9.

NA LCS 2018 Week 3 CLG vs FlyQuestMatch #5: Team Logo CLG DreamHack Montreal 2017 Counter Logic Gaming vs. FlyQuest FlyQuest NA LCS 2018 Team Logo

February 4rd, 2018: 06:00 PM PST / 09:00 PM EST / 03:00 CET (the next day)

Prediction: At the end of Week 3 Counter Logic Gaming meets the FlyQuest team. HuHi and his team-mates fought a tough duel with Echo Fox and finally seem to find their way back to their form, even if a look at the North American LCS standings says otherwise. The FlyQuest team was able to put the initially haphazard Team SoloMid in their place but suffered a bitter defeat against OpTic Gaming. In the last game of the week I’m expecting a 1-0 victory for Counter Logic Gaming.
