Astounding victories, unconventional champions and unexpected surprises – the EU LCS Spring Split 2017 will surprise us from week to week again and also the upcoming Week 3 seems to demonstrate that the dust has not yet been settled. While the North American LCS has one clear favorite on top of the ladder, the European group system makes it difficult to choose the most promising contender. In the current state of the European LCS the G2 Esports team and the Unicorns of Love are slowly emerging as group favorites. The Unicorns of Love will have to hold their ground against the strengthened Splyce team while Fnatic will clash with the Misfits. Especially day 1 of the LCS Week 3 holds some exciting duels on Summoner's Rift, so don't forget to turn in on February 2nd!

EU LCS Spring Split Week 3 – Day 3:
Start Time: February 4th, 07:00 AM PST/ 10:00 AM EST/ 16:00 CET
Splyce are having a hard time, they’ve been unable to come out on top of much but at least they were able to take their series off of Team Vitality during the 2nd EU LCS Week. This must mean things are going even harder for Origen as they’re yet to take a single series; this is their chance now though! Can they come out on top and finally take a step up the ladder? Tune into the games when they go live on Saturday, February 4th, to find out!
Splyce – Even though Splyce have only managed to take a single series they’re nearly at an overall 50% winrate which isn’t too bad. Their consistency throughout a series is letting them down along with some of their early presence and map impact but their improvements are showing.
Origen – The toughest position to be in, they’re at the bottom of the ladder and haven’t managed to take a single series or even a single game win yet. Out of games played they’re currently 0:6 but that just means one thing, what do they have to lose? The underdogs could come to bite back so teams are going to need to watch out!
Splyce are definitely at an advantage here, even though they’re only 1 series up on Origen they’ve also managed to hold their own throughout some of the series’ they’ve played in so far and that goes a long way. They pushed the top team in their group to the limit this very week and their improvements are going noticed. Origen will need to create a lot of pressure early to halt Splyce; they’re going to want to set up strong lines of vision which they will need to maintain to pick off opponents around the middle stages of the game before looking for fights. Splyce will want to utilize their jungler early to try and get the lanes ahead, come the middle stages of the game they’re going to want to keep their eyes peeled for any openings, regular engagements will force them forward.
Prediction: Splyce Victory. I don’t think it’s going to be really clean but I think, with how much stronger they’re currently looking and with their record being significantly better than Origen’s, they’ll come out on top of the series with determination and a more refined strategy, giving them the edge over Origen and taking the victory.
Start Time: February 4th, 10:00 AM PST/ 01:00 PM EST/ 19:00 CET
Fnatic have been having a harder time in their group, they’re currently locked away in 3rd position and the top of the ladder is slowly crawling away. Roccat are in an even harder position, not having taken a single series yet. Fnatic will be looking to push for a higher position on the ladder but whilst in such a desperate position will Roccat let them take the series with ease? I don’t think so! But make sure you tune in when it goes live on Saturday, February 4th, to find out!
Roccat – Without a single series under their belt at this point things are starting to look extremely difficult for Roccat, they’ve only got a single game victory to their name and they’ve got many improvements that need to be made; but they can be made. Once Roccat find their groove I’m sure they’ll cause trouble, but are they ready yet? We’ll have to wait and see!
Fnatic – A historical and Veteran Organisation stuck having a hard time, Fnatic will be looking to push forward for a chance to catch up to Misfits and Unicorns of Love but as each week passes every challenger gets stronger. Can Fnatic hold out and push forward? They’ve certainly got the potential, but can they pull it off?
Fnatic definitely look like the more advantageous team between the two, Fnatic have already taken a series and have been fighting hard in the majority of their series’. Roccat will need to create an early advantage, this rendition of Fnatic are having a harder time controlling their opponents if they fall behind so Roccat are going to want to pressure as much as they can as fast as they can. Fnatic will want to play with a more passive style, using control and map pressure to create opportunities for strong rotations or advantageous fights.
Prediction: Fnatic Victory. Roccat are in a tough position here, they need to beat Fnatic who’re in 3rd because if they can’t then they’ve lost to everyone in their group. But Fnatic have shown significantly more potential, having contested their series against G2 at the start and having stronger performances overall. I think they’ll work their way around Roccat but it won’t be without issues.
EU LCS Spring Split Week 3 – Day 2:
Start Time: February 3rd, 08:00 AM PST/ 11:00 AM EST/ 17:00 CET
Team Vitality are a bit against the rocks, they’re facing the bottom side of their group now that the weeks are progressing and they need to start working their way up before we get close to the middle of the split. H2k are already working up the ladder but recently faced a tough loss against the Unicorns of Love and tarnished their record. Only one team can progress, but who will it be? Catch the games as they go live on Friday, February 3rd, to find out!
Team Vitality – VIT are looking a little rough around the edges, both of the series’ that they’ve lost so far they were unable to contest. They’ve taken a single series win but they’ve lost twice as many games as they’ve won at the moment. If they don’t start picking things up they’ll be looking at trouble.
H2k – H2k are in a pretty good position here but if they want to catch up to UoL, who are sitting comfortably at the top of the ladder, they can’t let any team stand in their way; this includes VIT here. They took 2 series wins without dropping a single game; can they achieve the same against their current opponents?
H2k definitely look to be in an advantageous position here, they’ve only lost a series to the Unicorns of Love and even then they were able to hold out to the 3rd game and contest the series. Team Vitality was able to take down Origen which was good, but falling to Splyce will definitely hold them back as H2k took their series against Splyce fairly convincingly. VIT will need to watch for early game aggression and H2k will want to create a lot of pressure and engagements around the middle stages of the game, I think the late games of this series will be fairly 1 sided depending on what team manages to stretch ahead but there’s certainly going to be a lot of action earlier on.
Prediction: H2k Victory. H2k are looking like a confident choice here, comparing both of these competing teams games against Splyce gives us a pretty good bar to set their skill from and H2k was significantly ahead. H2k are looking like a top contender in their group in the EU LCS and I think it’ll continue to show during this series.
Start Time: February 3rd, 11:00 AM PST/ 02:00 PM EST/ 20:00 CET
G2 Esports are currently sitting at the top of the EU LCS group A and it doesn’t look like it’s going to change for a while. Their closest contender is Misfits and then slowly trailing behind them is Giants. Giants are looking like a strong team but their consistency is letting them down, can they sort it out and give G2 Esports trouble? Tune into the games when they go live on Friday, February 3rd, to find out!
G2 Esports – Sitting at the top of their group is comfortable but they’re being caught up, if they run into any trouble from this point onwards their position is going to be compromised. Giants have shown that they can be difficult so G2 are going to need to stay level headed regardless of the situation, patience will work to their advantage.
Giants – Giants have shown that they can work extremely well if they get a hold of a lead, even though they’ve lost more than they’ve won regarding series victories they’ve always packed a punch on their way down. Their consistency has been lacking because they often have a hard time securing a lead, a bit of early aggression could fix this if calculated and time properly.
G2 Esports are at a pretty clear advantage here but if Giants are able to regularly get a lead on G2 then this series could take a drastic turn. Giants have shown that if they take hold of a lead they can easily control a game and come out on top but they’ve been unable to do this multiple times during a series. They’ll need to come up with some early game strategies to build a lead and will need to utilize their jungler to his full potential, this could set G2 behind massively. If G2 manage to hold out during the earlier stages of the game I think their macro management, rotations and team fighting could push them ahead of Giants so they might want to avoid those earlier risks!
Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. Even though Giants are looking strong their consistency is a massive problem, G2 aren’t a team who lose the early game easily and even when they do they’re ready to bring their games back. This’ll make it difficult for Giants to even take a single game so I’d definitely side with G2 taking the series victory.
EU LCS Spring Split Week 3 – Day 1:
Start Time: February 2nd, 08:00 AM PST/ 11:00 AM EST/ 17:00 CET
Out of Group B in the EU LCS the Unicorns of Love are currently sitting at the top having being undefeated, this comes harder to Splyce as they’re only managed to take a single series so far. This is their 3rd game of the split and their chance to take a step up their group but can they beat the team at the top? Catch the games as they go live on Thursday, February 2nd, to see who comes out on top!
Splyce – Currently the team that’s played the least games in their group but they’re not sitting at the bottom! With a current 1:2 score they’re only a single win away from tying 2nd place with H2k and working their way to the top. If they can take this they can throw a spanner in the works of Group B as they work their way through it!
Unicorns of Love – The Unicorns of Love have been a force to be reckoned with, they’re yet to drop a series yet and they’ve looked fantastic in every one they’ve participated it. Out of the 4 opponents in their group they’ve already conquered 3 of them; can they make it a full house?
Unicorns of Love definitely look to be at an advantage here; they’ve shown reliable adaptation throughout a series and have also shown great form. They’ve had strong early games that have led to them conquering fairly quickly but even when their early game is lacking they’ve held on and waited for opportunities. Splyce are going to need to make a crack in the early game with slight aggression and will need to try and find opportunities around the middle stages of the game, if they game begins to stall out too long I think Unicorns of Love will begin to control the game with stronger macro management, because of this Splyce will need to play as if they have limited time. Confidence in their engagements will be key; their team fighting is what can propel them forward!
Prediction: Unicorns of Love Victory. The Unicorns of Love have shown great form throughout all stages of the game, they’ve not got weaknesses that are too easily abused and they’re able to stall out and wait for their own comfortable opportunities. Because of these points I think they’ll gain a lead around the middle stages of the game through their strong macro play and will take the series with their superior player management.
Start Time: February 2nd, 11:00 AM PST/ 02:00 PM EST/ 20:00 CET
Misfits have come into the European League of Legends Championship Series and have already shown great strength, they’re currently sitting as the 2nd place team in their group and are only looking to push further. With an overall 5:3 score and 2 Series wins to their name they’re looking tough but Fnatic are a team with history who’re about to give this everything they’ve got. Can they bring their best, or will they fall? Tune into the games when they go live on Thursday, February 2nd, to find out!
Misfits – Misfits have only dropped a series to the current #1 team in their group, G2 Esports, and they’re definitely looking like a top position contender as they kept G2 on their toes. Out of the 3 series that they’ve played they’ve only dropped 3 games in total, 2 of which are from their single series loss. This is a fantastic record to keep and for them to try and uphold as it shows their consistency!
Fnatic – They’re yet to play their 3rd series, in comparison to every other team in their group, yet they still hold a fairly strong position on the ladder and a good score. This’ll be their 3rd game and chance to prove that they’re a top contending team but it’ll be a challenge. Can their history, passion and drive get them through this?
Misfits appear to be at an advantage through the statistics but in this match-up it’s not as reliable. Fnatic have played an entire series less than Misfits so far and this could be the chance Fnatic need to really push forward. Misfits have shown that they can adapt throughout a series, throughout a game and whenever they deem it necessary. This could come as a challenge to Fnatic as they’ll need to deal with this quickly and precisely. Fnatic are going to want to try and gain early vision control so they can force middle game fights around important objectives, this will let them find opportunities or create advantages which will let them take fights significantly easier. Fnatic have always had fairly strong vision control and it’s something Misfits are going to need to keep their eyes out for. This game could be made by just a few fights but with how both teams are playing I think things could slow down significantly if any mistakes are made.
Prediction: Fnatic Victory. Fnatic have got a lot more on the line here and I think they’re going to have made extra preparation for this series; they’ll know the adaptions from Misfits and will have strategies in place to control the earlier and middle stages of the game. It’ll be a tough and slow series with lots of challenges but I think Fnatic will take the win in the end.
