EU LCS Spring Split Week 2 – Day 3:
Start Time: January 28th, 07:00 AM PST / 10:00 AM EST / 16:00 CET
H2k have pumped out multiple outstanding performances and it currently has them sitting at the top of their group, joining them at the top of their groups are the Unicorns of Love! This will be a deciding series as to which team pull push for 1st place in the group whilst the falling team will have to take time to recuperate! Make sure you catch the games as they go live on Saturday, January 28th, to see who succeeds and takes the top spot!
H2k – H2k, even after making multiple roster changes, are looking like an extremely formidable EU LCS team. They’ve been on form, being able to take down both of their opponent’s without losing a single game. Unfortunately for them a new challenge awaits, taking down a team with the exact same standing. They’re going to need to gain some series map control if they’re looking to keep their perfect win rate!
Unicorns of Love – The UoL roster has been working extremely well together and has grown through practice. At first I was sceptical of the changes made to the team but as they push their way up to the top of their group they’re proving that it was a step forward for them! How well can this roster hold up against another top team though? We’re about to find out!
After watching over the recently played games of H2k and UoL once more I’d say that H2k have a very small advantage over UoL. Both teams have shown great capability at controlling the map and gaining a huge lead without having to constantly fight but because they both have been playing with this similar style I expect there to be a lot more objective contesting. I’d say H2k are at a slight advantage because UoL have had difficulty fighting before unless they’ve been in such a huge lead, in a game where you’re at a similar skill and on similar gold to your opponents there’s not much room for mistake and UoL have shown that their vision control and skirmishing could use a little work. I expect a lot of this match to play out slowly until the middle and later stages of the game where both teams will be looking for strong engagements and will be fighting for vision around objectives along with the objectives themselves! There will be a few key moments during the match, most likely around those objectives like Elder Dragon or Baron that will be deciders for the games.
Prediction: H2k Victory. I think H2k held their own and were more consistent, they made less mistakes and I think their consistency along with their control will surpass what UoL can deal with. This will lead to them eventually gaining control of the series and taking the win, UoL won’t give up easily though!
Start Time: January 28th, 10:00 AM PST / 01:00 PM EST / 19:00 CET
Misfits have definitely shown some promise, being able to take down both Giants and Roccat without many issues, but now they’ll be against an assumed top European LCS team! G2 Esports ran into a bit of trouble against Fnatic but have already shown great consistency and strength, will Misfits take control and take down this EU powerhouse team? Find out on Saturday, January 28th, when the games go live!
G2 Esports – G2 are one of the assumed to EU LCS teams and are already proving themselves to be one. They were able to take down Fnatic without too many issues and took a series from Roccat without dropping a game; this is all yet to test their strength though. They’ve shown great consistency, team fighting and map control thus far but some of their risks might not pay off.
Misfits – MSF are doing quite well for themselves, they ran into a little bit of trouble when facing off against Giants but after their Week 2 Day 1 performances against Roccat they’re starting to look more stable and formidable. They’re yet to show phenomenal strength but this is an opportunity for them to do so, will they rise to the challenge?
I’d say that G2 Esports are at an advantage during this series. They’re already showing great strength, map control and are consistent throughout their games and throughout the series they’ve performed in so far. They play a fairly stable style in which risk is minimalized and once they secure a lead they’ve shown that they know how to use it. They’re very precise and can change their play style depending on situations; I think this will be one of the most difficult things for Misfits to overcome. Misfits have shown strengths of their own but I think they’re going to need to apply a lot of early and middle game pressure to try and get ahead of G2, if they can do this they should be able to regularly find advantageous fights; this will let them pressure with a gold lead and force G2 into their base, opening up objectives and significantly more important opportunities.
Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. With how both teams have performed so far I think G2 Esports are a step ahead of Misfits and it’ll be their game to lose. I think they’ll pressure a lot of the early game and force themselves into a lead, giving them a step forward in the series and allowing them to pressure Misfits relentlessly; giving G2 the series victory.
EU LCS Spring Split Week 2 – Day 4:
Start Time: January 29th, 07:00 AM PST / 10:00 AM EST / 16:00 CET
Origen is yet to put on any strong performances, having lost all of their series so far and not having been able to take a single game. But this series is a fantastic opportunity for both of these teams to prove their value, both teams are in the same position and are looking for their 1st victory but only one of them can come out on top. Will it be Team Vitality or Origen? Tune into the series when it goes live on Sunday, January 29th, to watch one of these teams take a step forward!
Origen – They’re yet to show much strength, it’s actually quite worrying. They’ve been unable to contest a series just yet but now they’re against a team in a similar position and they’ve got an opportunity to rise. They’re going to need to toughen up their early game and look to take a big lead if they want to come out on top, but it’s definitely possible for them!
Team Vitality – They’ve shown that they can find fights and pick up a huge amount of kills but their big issue has been their vision and map control. They’re going to need to work on their vision for the middle stages of the game so they can find advantage fights, if they can do this they’ll be able to push harder against even strong teams.
I’d say Origen are at a slight advantage here, even when they’ve faced off against some of the stronger performing teams they’ve managed to hold their own. They’ve often stayed equal in gold and kills but have fallen during the later stages of the game. If they can work on their late game decision making I think they’ll be able to contest a lot more series’ in the future. Due to having a fairly reliable early game Team Vitality could be in trouble, they’re going to want to abuse a vision advantage to find skirmishes. When Origen fall behind they’re not likely to come back unless their opponents make a huge mistake. Origen are going to need to continue their style of play, it’s worked quite well for them but come the later stages of the game they’re going to need to force their opponents, control objectives and find those advantageous fights. That’s been their downfall so far and if VIT are able to scale then they could easily contest the series.
Prediction: Origen Victory. Out of both of these teams Origen have looked the more consistent, Team Vitality have fallen harder to their opponents and have often been unable to build much of a lead, even when things have looked in their favour. I think Origen is going to take hold of the middle stages of the games in this series and finally prove themselves to be a fairly strong team.
Start Time: January 29th, 10:00 AM PST / 01:00 PM EST / 19:00 CET
Roccat have been unable to put up much of a fight in any of the series they’ve played in so far. This could come as a big concern to them, they’ve been unable to perform on the same level as their opponents and they’ve barely been able to show much of their strength. Giants have shown some strength, contesting their series against Misifts and even pushing Fnatic a bit, but will that be enough to come out on top of this series? Find out on Sunday, January 29th, as the series goes live!
Giants – GIA are yet to take a series but they’ve come out on top of 2 games, this is infinitely more than what Roccat’s been able to achieve so far. Giants have shown some of their strengths and I think in a series against a team like Roccat they’ll finally find opportunities to shine.
Roccat – Unfolding in front of Roccat right now is a fantastic opportunity for them to finally take a step forward, they’re facing a team that are yet to take a series and this is exactly what Roccat needs to take a step forward. Do they have the strength though? They’ve been unable to show us much so far but after a few days of minor improvements they could bring a lot to this series.
It would appear that Giants are at a bit of an advantage for their series, they’ve been unable to take a series but contesting them hasn’t been much of an issue for them. They were able to cause a lot of trouble for Fnatic along with Misfits, this is significantly more than Roccat’s been able to achieve so far. Roccat have shown that if they play with more patience during the earlier stages of the game they’re able to push for team fights and skirmishes later on, they can use this to force a lead on Giants but to do it successfully they’ll need to focus a lot of time on their vision control. If they can lure Giants into enclosed spaces and create advantageous team fights, either through sporadic engagement or by picking off an opponent, they could quickly open up this series. Giants are going to want to force some early aggression on Roccat, it’s already shown that if Roccat fall behind during the earlier stages of the game they quickly become hopeless, this give Giants a great opportunity to quickly take control of the games but it comes with a risk.
Prediction: Giants Victory. I think Roccat are going to contest this particular series, at least they’ve shown that they can if they play to their full potential and with some patience, but with Giants looking like the more reliable team I think they’ll find their leads and come out on top of the series.
EU LCS Spring Split Week 2 – Day 2:
January 27th, 08:00 AM PST/ 11:00 AM EST/ 17:00 CET
Splyce were unable to take a single victory during the 1st week when they quickly fell to H2k but this will be an opportunity for them to step up and step forward. Luckily for them they’ll be going against Team Vitality, who also ran into trouble during the 1st week and were unable to take a single game away from their opponents. Only one of these teams will be able to push forward but who will it be? Make sure you catch the games on Friday, January 27th, to find out!
Team Vitality – VIT had a rough Season 6 and coming into Season 7 thing aren’t looking too bright for them. There’ll still be plenty of opportunities for them but they’re going to need to start picking things up quickly to kick off with a good start! Communication appeared to be a fairly big issue for them but after an additional week of practice there’s hope that they’ve made small improvements.
Splyce – SPY had a strong end to their Season 6 and I they want to push forward fairly quickly at the start of Season 7 to prove their strength once again. They quickly fell to H2k but they’ve been presented an opportunity to take a step forward. If they can stay on form then their renewed roster should be able to use their experience to push ahead.
Taking a quick gander at the team’s rosters and the available information on them it would appear that Splyce are in a slightly advantageous position. Sure, they quickly fell to H2k during week 1 and were unable to take away a single game but they were able to show off a few strengths and they’re going to need to try to show off more here against VIT. If they play at a slower pace during the earlier stages of the game and work closely with vision control they might be able to find advantageous rotations to control objectives and build a lead whilst working together as a team. They have the experience together to pull this off nicely but if VIT find early skirmishes and deny vision at the right times then things could quickly go in favour of VIT. Team Vitality are going to want to look for a few aggressive opportunities earlier on but avoid too much risk as the middle and later stages of the game roll around. They should be able to build a small lead and comfortably find opportunities to expand it around the middle stages of the game.
Prediction: Splyce Victory. H2k have proven to be a strong team already, possibly a top EU team, so falling to them during the 1st week is understandable. They still were unable to take a game, along with VIT, but I think their experience playing together as an entire roster will give them an advantage against Team Vitality and I expect that advantage to show during this series.
January 27th, 11:00 AM PST/ 02:00 PM EST/ 20:00 CET
Giants were unable to take away a series on their 1st week of performances but they made a dent, they were able to take away a single victory against Misfits before falling. During this particular game they were able to show a few strengths that could come to light once again. Fnatic were in a similar situation against G2 Esports but as a team with a phenomenal EU LCS history they’re desperate to push ahead early. Catch the games as they go live on Friday, January 27th, to find out who takes the series!
Giants – With their strongest performances showing during the later stages of the game they’re going to want to try and use their jungler to take hold of the earlier stages. They’ve shown that their communication can work well but they’re having issues executing strategies. With another week passing they could show us a few improvements that catch Fnatic by surprise.
Fnatic – FNC have a huge history as an Esports organisation and a strong performing EU LCS team but falling in the 1st week is quite a hit to them. They’d shown great strength and strategy but were unable to come out on top of G2. Hopefully against Giants they’re able to show us those strengths once again with minor improvements to create a more stable lead.
Fnatic definitely had a stronger performance during their single game victory in comparison to Giants, they took a more stable lead and were able to use that against their opponent whereas Giants were able to take their victory due to their opponent’s misplay. Fnatic are going to want to play confidently during the earlier stages of the game and possibly pick some skirmishes, if they can build vision around objectives they’ll be able to find opponents to pick off and will be able to safely rotate their jungler around the map to pressure and get the FNC lanes ahead. Giants are going to want to play patiently and focus their jungle pressure around the top side of the map, they want to get their later scaling champions in a stable position because Giants have shown great ability to stall out games and push ahead when they find a strong opportunity. They’ll need to play relatively safe during the earlier stages of the game and possibly avoid abrupt fights around the middle stages but once the later stages roll around they can start to throw their weight around.
Prediction: Fnatic Victory. FNC have shown phenomenal strength and were able to look like a formidable team, this contrasts Giants who were only able to take their single game win due to opponents mistakes. Fnatic aren’t as likely to make mistakes as Misfits were and seeing as they were able to contest their series against G2 I think they’re definitely a team to watch. I think they’ll gain outstanding control by the middle stages of the game and this will allow them to take over the series.
EU LCS Spring Split Week 2 – Day 1:
Start Time: January 26th, 08:00 AM PST/ 11:00 PM EST/ 17:00 CET
Origen took quite a hit when they lost their 1st series; they fell to H2k without taking a single game! But that’s just how the first week works sometimes. Unicorns of Love on the other hand managed to take their game without dropping a single game and did so whilst looking fairly strong! Are they a top contender or can Origen bring them down a step? Make sure you catch the games on Thursday, January 26th, to find out!
Origen – A rough hit at the start of the season shouldn’t get them down, they’re building their stride and still have the potential to reach a high point on the ladder. They’re going to need to work on their communication, patience and control. If they feel like they’re falling behind they’re going to want to wait for an opportunity to play to their strengths. Against UoL this just means pacing themselves.
Unicorns of Love – UoL took over their best of 3 series with style, not dropping a single game. They did so whilst showing great strength, control and quick communication. It wasn’t all quite smooth sailing but they came out on top and took a step forward. They’re going to need to keep the pace up to stay on top though; losing to Origen here would set them back greatly!
A quick comparison of both teams make Unicorns of Love appear to be at an advantage, they played significantly better as a team and managed to show more of their strengths; this is contrasted by Origen as a lot of their weaknesses were exposed and they were unable to take control of a single game. Unicorns of Love are going to want to pressure the map during the early stages of the game and build vision, looking for skirmishes is an option if they want to add some risk and potentially finish the game more quickly. Around the middle stages of the game they’re going to want to find abrupt engagements to catch Origen out. Origen will need to play with patience, tempo and rotations. They’re going to want to wait for UoL to make the first move and then play in a reactive style until they hold a comfortable lead. This will let them build their own control around objectives which will then let them pick off their opponents and create advantageous opportunities.
Prediction: Unicorns of Love Victory. Unicorns of Love have shown that they have good communication and can quickly take control of a game, Origen have yet to prove themselves. Because of this I think UoL will take control of the series, possibly running into trouble if Origen has worked on their issues with quick fixes.
Start Time: January 26th, 11:00 AM PST/ 02:00 PM EST/ 20:00 CET
Misfits ran into a bit of trouble in their series against Giants but they were able to push forward and take the series, Roccat however were in a significantly more difficult position. Roccat were against the ex-EU LCS Champions who’re looking extremely strong once again. Roccat will need to take this opportunity to prove themselves against a team with less history. Will they prevail? Tune into the games when they go live on Thursday, January 26th, to find out!
Misfits – Misfits looked fairly good, sure they took a hit when they dropped a game but they managed to come out on top. With this particular roster they could be running into a few communication issues but as each week passes this’ll get easier for them to work around. I think this will be their chance to show their true strength!
Roccat – They quickly fell to G2 Esports and were unable to show their potential or strength, what can you expect when facing a known EU powerhouse team? Well, this is Roccat’s chance to prove themselves! Misfits didn’t have the most impressive performances during week 1 and Roccat are going to want to try to step up here to take their 1st step forward!
With how both teams have performed so far, even though we’re only a single week into the EU LCS, It would appear that Misfits are at an advantage. Not because they won their series but because they had shown better communication, control and were able to exert enough pressure to keep their opponents at bay. Roccat were unable to achieve much of this in their games and it could cause a lot of trouble for them in the future. Roccat are going to want to try to apply as much pressure during the earlier stages of the game as possible, even if only to deny their opponent’s lanes. This will give them small advantages which, when fighting around an objective fairly early in the game, will certainly add up and could quickly expand. Misfits are going to want to play with pace and patience, looking for opportunities and farming up. Starting with a reactive style could give them an advantage around the middle stages of the game but if they’re looking to get into a quick lead they’re going to want their jungler to make quick rotations along with their middle lane, this will create huge skirmish opportunities for them along with early objectives. Doing this could quickly snowball the game in their favour and give them a lead in the series!
Prediction: Misfits Victory. I think there will be a few close calls, maybe even a few throws, but ultimately I expect Misfits to come out on top because of their proven greater control of the map. It’ll give them small advantages around objectives which can quickly expand into large leads, I think this is how they’ll get ahead in the series and eventually take it.
