EU LCS Spring Split Week 1 – Day 3:
Start Time: January 21th, 07:00 AM PST/ 10:00 AM EST/ 16:00 CET
G2 Esports have already had a promising start to their Spring Split! They were able to take down Fnatic, although they ran into a bit of trouble at quite a few points! The G2 Esports roster is looking formidable once against but can the new Roccat roster make an impact? Roccat have made a huge array of changes but I’m not sure it’ll be enough! We’ll have to tune into the matches on Saturday, January 21st, to find out!
G2 Esports – In their games against Fnatic they looked reliable. They had confidence and it allowed them to find the fights they needed to take control of the game. This is something that could come in handy against teams that have less practice together, namely Roccat here. They’ve stuck with the same roster for a significant amount of time now and their practice and improvements will definitely show.
ROCCAT – ROC made a lot of changes! Hopefully this will allow them to hold a more significant position on the ladder, or at least a less dangerous position. With Phaxi now controlling the top lane, assisted by Maxlore in the jungle they’re going to look to hold out against their more aggressive opponents and build opportunities for the team! This means Betsy could be making rotations from the middle lane whilst Hjarnan and Wadid slowly gain control of the bottom lane!
G2 Esports are definitely looking like the more advantageous team here. They’ve got significantly more practice together and have already shown that they’re ready, once again, to take a top position on the ladder in the EU LCS. Roccat are going to have a fairly hard time but with a new roster there’s new hope! They’ve got talented players but with only a few weeks practice they might have to rely on early aggression to try and gain a lead. This’ll work like a double edged sword, if it works out for them they could quickly take control of the game and work with their macro management to push for victory. If it doesn’t work in their favour though they can say bye-bye to the series, G2 Esports can be relentless once they’ve taken a lead.
Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. After taking down Fnatic, G2 Esports are going to be confident during this performance. They’ve just taken down a rival top team and now they’re heading into a series against a team that has significantly less practice than them. Sure, they could run into issues in the earlier stages of the game but I’m confident G2 will be able to hold out regardless of the circumstances to take the late games and the series.
Week 1 | Day 3 – Match #2: H2K Gaming vs. Splyce
Start Time: January 21th, 10:00 AM PST/ 01:00 PM EST/ 19:00 CET
Splyce are one of the few teams who kept their previous rosters. After putting on some extremely strong performances at the end of 2016 EU LCS Splyce managed to prove themselves as a strong and dominant top EU LCS team! H2k weren’t far behind but with a few roster changes things are going to be shaken up. To watch the games you’re going to want to catch the live stream on Saturday, January 21st! Don’t miss out!
Splyce – With their entire roster intact they’re going to have had a significant amount of time to practice and perfect their strategies. Splyce managed to take 2nd place in the 2016 EU LCS Summer Split and even the 2016 EU LCS Summer Playoffs! This is no easy feat and if that exact roster is competing again then we could be looking at them pulling out some phenomenal games and showing us why they deserved those positions!
H2k – Even though H2k only took 3rd in the 2016 EU LCS Summer Playoffs and only held 4th position during the 2016 EU LCS Summer split, they’re looking like a phenomenal team already. They managed to take a step up the ladder after taking down Origen and they did so without taking a single loss. This goes to show that their new roster is working extremely well together with Chei and Nuclear, just how much have they improved?
H2k, with a win already under their belt, are looking extremely promising. Splyce could run into some trouble already but with how reliable they’ve been in the past, in their own region, they could hold their own and prove why they were considered a top European team. H2k’s imported players are doing a fantastic job at pushing H2k that bit ahead and they’re certain to cause havoc for Splyce so they’ve either going to need to be shut down or Splyce will need to focus a bit more attention on the top side of the map. Objective control will remain to be a key focus point for both of these teams but I expect to see some earlier skirmishes and a lot of explosive team fighting around the middle stages of the game. These could sway the favour of the game to either team so keep a close eye on what happens!
Prediction: H2k Victory. H2k managed to prove themselves at the end of 2016, even more so than Splyce, when they conquered the group stage at the World Championship! And now with a new bottom lane, a strong one too, they’re looking like an improved team. I think they’ll run into some trouble against Splyce but will manage to take the series thanks to greater early game pressure!
EU LCS Spring Split Week 1 – Day 1:
Start Time: January 19th, 08:00 AM PST/ 11:00 AM EST/ 17:00 CET
To kick off the European League of Legends Championship Series we’ll be watching 2 well-loved teams battle it out in best of 3 series to see who will take the top of the ladder for the time being. Origen is a well versed team formed and pushed by a veteran player, they’ve ran into trouble after their initial burst though! Will they be able to take down a revised roster of H2k? Make sure you catch the game on Thursday, January 19th, to find out!
Origen – Origen have had a lot of issues after their 1st year, they appear to have had issues with their rosters and they’ve shown lack of communication on many occasions. This has pushed them into a difficult position time and time again; this is a new year for them to push forward with whatever line-up they’ve been able to conjure!
H2k Gaming – H2k have the majority of their roster intact, this should be great for them but with 2 new imported players communication could quickly become an issue. H2k have picked up Nuclear and Chei for their bottom lane and there’s no doubt they’ll work well together, but how well will they perform when language gets between them? H2k could face issues during tense moments which could bring them down; they’ll need to find a way to manage it quickly!
Looking at both roster line-ups I think Origen could take an early lead if they play with some aggression, they’ll need their jungler to make quick rotations and to apply pressure to lanes in the earlier stages of the game. With communication being a possible weakness for H2k they’re going to want to try and gain a lead before the remaining members of the team are able to react. If Origen can gain a lead then their new line-up of talent could pressure the middle stages of the game to quickly gain objective control. H2k are going to need to try to combat this quickly, depending on their team composition they’re going to need to either find engagements or control vision to pick off opponents. H2k have great laning, looking at the names in their roster make this obvious. If they’re able to avoid falling into a deficit during the earlier stages of the game then there’s little doubt that they’ll push Origen to their limits fairly quickly.
Prediction: H2k Victory. H2k have players in their roster who have long term experience playing together, it’s fairly opposite for the freshly revamped Origen. This can lead to communication issues for Origen, not created by language barriers but possibly because of a missing shot-caller. Because of this I think H2k are going to claw their way to the top of the series, hitting a few of their own issues on the way, taking it 2:1.
Start Time: January 19th, 11:00 AM PST/ 02:00 PM EST/ 20:00 CET
An exciting match to find us on the 1st day back to the EU LCS! G2 Esports have been the European top team for quite some time now; they’ve recently made a few changes to their roster and have imported some Chinese talent. But what do we really want to see? SoaZ is back on Fnatic and their line-up is looking phenomenal, will they be able to take back their title as the #1 European team? Tune in on Thursday, January 19th, to watch it as it all unfolds!
G2 Esports – G2 have constantly pushed for the top position during the EU LCS, throughout the entire 2016 year they placed 1st during both splits and playoffs. This is no easy feat! They climbed their way from a regular 3rd and 4th position to a dominating 1st and with new talent on their roster they could be looking to hold onto their title. Imported players might bring communication issues but organisation changes have allowed them to work around this quickly!
Fnatic – Fnatic have created an extremely formidable roster, stacked talent and well-known names now resonate within the team and they’ll be looking to take their title back. Fnatic are known for their drive, hard work and dedication. I’m sure that over the short break between season and after picking up their new players they’ve worked relentlessly to build comfort and synergy between the players. They’re going to put up one hell of a fight!
It looks as though Fnatic have the more aggressive players so they’re going to want to try and find advantages during the earlier stages of the game, picking up an aggressive jungle champion on “Amazing” could quickly push their lanes ahead and if their top laner “SoaZ” gets a lead then G2 are going to be in a lot of trouble. I think a lot of this match is going to be about how well the top laners and junglers handle the map, compose themselves and push leads for their team. Both G2 and Fnatic have experienced and talented rosters but this is going to be one hell of a clash. G2 Esports are going to want to try and get their middle lane into a strong position and will want their bottom lane to stay equal or gain a lead, this means they could be paying more attention to the bottom side of the map and if they push for objective control they could quickly pincer Fnatic and gain a lead.
Prediction: Fnatic Victory. This game is going to come down to how well the teams compose their early games. G2 have definitely made improvements but I think the additional experience of Fnatic could push them ahead slightly here. The aggression of their players also pushes past the aggression on G2 and I think that’s going to play a bit part in Fnatic taking the series.
EU LCS Spring Split Week 1 – Day 2:
Start Time: January 20th, 08:00 AM PST/ 11:00 AM EST/ 17:00 CET
Misfits are an up and coming Challenger Series team who’ve managed to battle their way relentlessly to the top. They crushed their way through the Challenger Series, rarely seeing a loss, and have managed to gain entrance into the LCS. In an odd turn of events last season Giants managed to end the Summer Split in 3rd place before being knocked down in the playoffs, will they be enough to hold the Misfits back? Make sure you catch the games on Friday, January 20th, to find out!
Misfits – Since their dominance over the Challenger Series the Misfits have undergone a few changes, their roster has been shaken up a bit but I wouldn’t call it a downgrade. With a new middle laner and a new jungler this team could be looking to challenge some of the stronger teams in the region; their previous performances certainly attest to that.
Giants – Giants managed to end the 2016 EU LCS Summer Split in 3rd place, before being knocked down during the playoffs, so they appeared to be a middle-of-the-pack team! They have undergone many changes though and hopefully the triple-threat Swedes will aid their communication and push them further up the ladder! Will they show us their true potential, or will the Misfits be too much?
Giants have made some threatening changes to their roster, they’ve picked up players who’ll undoubtedly work well together and this could cover a large portion of their previous weaknesses. With a few contract renewals and imported players we could be looking at Giants driving force to make their way to the top of the ladder. This could be brought down by the sheer dominance of Misfits though! Misfits picked up KaKAO in the jungle and PowerOfEvil for their middle lane, they might not seem like the most dominant players at first, because of their most recent competitive performances, but they should not be underestimated. If Giants go into this series with too much confidence then Misfits could easily gain control during the earlier stages of the game and maintain control until Victory is taken, to avoid this the Giants are going to want to pace themselves and work closely with objectives. Controlling the lanes and working with tempo could be a fantastic way for them to learn about their opponents and adapt throughout the game to gain control. Misfits are likely to adopt a similar method of play if there’s not much early action, this could bring us to a very explosive set of team fights around the middle stages of the game!
Prediction: Misfits victory. Misfits have been an extremely dominant force in the Challenger Series and although the LCS is an entire level above that I think the changes they’ve made to their team will push them beyond the bottom of the EU LCS ladder.
Start Time: January 20th, 11:00 AM PST/ 02:00 PM EST/ 20:00 CET
The Unicorns of Love had once announced that they were going to keep their roster together, this quickly changes as they began announcing new players on their roster and new talent in their line-up! Some of their roster changes are questionable so Team Vitality could be looking to push ahead here! Tune in as the games go live on Friday, January 20th, to find out who makes it out on top!
Team Vitality – A once rough diamond, this team has managed to impress many with their roster changes. Excitement boomed when Steelback joined the team and word of Djoko and GBM only made things more exhilarating. They’re looking to impress and improve, their recent achievements are lacking and this roster looks stacked enough to push VIT forward.
Unicorns of Love – UoL managed to keep a few of their players on board, which is great because they had some fantastic performances at the end of Season 6. Will it be enough to keep the Unicorns spirit alive though? With changes being made to the roster they could be looking at more communication issues however the Unicorns of Love are a team that have always been full of surprises, so keep your eyes on them!
Unicorns of Love have always had dominant games when they’ve taken control of the earlier stages of the game, if they can force out some aggression with their jungler during the earlier stages of the game they could quickly open up rotations for their middle laner to pressure multiple lanes and turrets. This could be difficult for VIT to react to, being fast paced and high tempo, and could quickly bring an end to them. Team Vitality is going to want to focus on controlling vision, keeping pace and playing with patience. They’re going to want to find strong engagements and play with objectives, this will mostly occur around the middle stages of the game! They’re most likely to find their lead here but I’m afraid if they fall too far behind they’ll become Unicorn food. The middle stages of the game look to be most important with how these teams play so controlling vision is going to be very competitive.
Prediction: Unicorns of Love victory. Unicorns of Love have achieved a lot in their competitive career and at no point have they been utterly dominated. Team Vitality barely avoided relegation last season and I don’t think their roster changes are enough to push them to the top, Unicorns of Love should be able to keep form and come out on top if they play with a bit of patience.
