We witnessed fierce duels, great plays and an almost sensation – but the Play-In stage of the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational tournament is finally over and the teams of the Group Stage are eventually fixed. If you take a look at the qualified teams there are no major suprises, all big League of Legends regions claimed a place in the main event and the Gigabyte Marines from the GPL region will round out the starting field. Especially the Flash Wolves did not miss out on anything and rank amongst the tournament favorites even in the main competition. While Team SoloMid from the North American LCS met big issues in the form of the Gigabyte Marines, Bjergson and his teammates barely managed to qualify for the Group Stage of the MSI 2017 with a final score of 3:2. Certainly the South Korean overlords from SK Telecom T1 are again the big favorites on Summoner’s Rift but all competitors strife for prize money, the glory of the regions and better seedings for this year’s League of Legends World Championship. Match #1: G2 Esports vs. SKT Telecom T1
Start time: May 10th, 11:30 AM PDT / 02:30 PM EDT / 20:30 CEST
G2 Esports are the undisputed top European team and have been putting on solid performances for the entirety of the EU LCS Spring Split, but they’re going up against world class opponents here. G2 have a bad history at international tournaments and this is definitely a good series for them to show their improvements, will SKTT1 take a hit? Tune into the match when it goes live on Wednesday, May 10th, to find out!
G2 Esports – G2 have shown great strength in the European region but have a bad history when it comes to performing on an international stage or during a series against an international team. This series could be definitive; if G2 manage to succeed here they’ll be setting themselves up for greater performances in the future.
SK Telecom T1 – SKTT1 nearly had an undisputed LCK Spring Split, ending the 1st stage of it in 1st place with a 16:2 score. They then followed this up during the LCK Spring Playoffs with a phenomenal series against KT Rolster where they pushed for a clean 3:0 series. SKTT1 look like a favourite for this tournament but international teams can be a challenge.
SKTT1 look to be at an advantage here but that’s purely based off of G2 Esports’ bad history when it comes to international tournaments. Both teams had outstanding scores in their own regions and earned phenomenal placements during this tournament; but SKTT1 have proven to be a more adaptable team in the past and has a much stronger history when performing on an international stage. G2 Esports are definitely going to be challenged here, are they up for it?
Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. I think G2 are going to pack a few punches but with SKTT1 having a much stronger history during international tournaments and holding much stronger performances on an international stage I think they’re going to come out on top.
Match #2: Team WE vs. Flash Wolves
Start time: May 10th, 12:30 PM PDT / 03:30 PM EDT / 21:30 CEST
This series is certainly going to be interesting, Team WE are yet to show their current skill level on this international stage but the Flash Wolves have crushed a series already. Flash Wolves have a fantastic history of performances on international stages and have often conquered favourite teams, are Team WE up to the challenge? Tune into the game when it goes live on Wednesday, May 10th, to find out!
Team WE – Team WE had outstanding performances in their own region and even managed to take down Royal Never Give Up with a clean 3:0 series during the LPL Spring Playoffs. During the 2017 LPL Spring Split they managed to pull off a phenomenal 12:4 score but even with such great performances in their own region they’ll be challenged by the FW because of international history.
Flash Wolves – A team to be fear, the Flash Wolves have always had outstanding performances on an international stage and have often cost teams opportunities to climb. I expect no less from them during the 2017 MSI. They’ve got such a strong history I’m confident they’ll cause problems for all performing teams during this tournament.
It’s hard to come to a conclusion as to what team’s at an advantage here because Team WE have few international tournaments under their belt but have put on phenomenal performances during their regions Spring Split. Flash Wolves, on the other hand, have always put on outstanding performances on international stages but are less likely to be adaptable when it comes to being challenged by new or innovating strategies, or even strategies developed in other regions. I think they’ll bump heads often and the lead could bounce around a bit but the game will come down to whatever team is more decisive in key moments and whoever is able to manage their team fighting better.
Prediction: Flash Wolves Victory. With Flash Wolves having a much stronger history on international stages and having already put on some fantastic performances during the 2017 MSI I think they’ll find a way to come out on top of Team WE during this game.
Match #3: GIGABYTE Marines vs. Team SoloMid
Start time: May 10th, 01:30 PM PDT / 04:30 PM EDT / 22:30 CEST
These teams already have a history facing each other, Team Solo Mid were so close to losing a clean series against GAM but managed to claw their way back and reverse sweep the series. GAM is definitely a team that TSM can’t underestimate but there’s hope, if they manage to take down GAM again it solidifies their position above them. Can TSM pull it off or will GAM change back? Tune into the game when it goes live on Wednesday, May 10th!
Gigabyte Marines – GAM put on a set of fantastic performances when they were facing off against Team Solo Mid during the previous stage of the mid-season invitational 2017 but they quickly fell after their 1st loss and were unable to pick themselves back up. If they can put on another one of those strong performances that nearly gave them the series against TSM previously they could push forward here.
Team Solo Mid – After taking back the series against GAM they’re itching to prove themselves once again, putting the nail in the coffin to prove that they are the better team. This is their chance to prove themselves but if we learned anything from the previous clash that these 2 teams had we already know it’s going to be quite a challenge.
Team Solo Mid would appear to be at a very minor advantage here, seeing as they were the team that took the victory when these 2 performing teams put on a phenomenal series of game. It’s only a minor advantage and GAM have proven previously that they’re able to take down Team Solo Mid with relative ease when things go their way, so both teams are going to need to play with relative caution. I think TSM will want to solo out the top lane of GAM whereas GAM should focus on control and pressure with their jungler.
Prediction: Team Solo Mid Victory. Now that some time has passed I think TSM have been able to look over and analyse the series they had against GAM and learn a few things, I expect these few things to push TSM into the lead and give them the advantage they’ll need to take this game.
Match #4: Flash Wolves vs. G2 Esports
Start time: May 10th, 02:30 PM PDT / 05:30 PM EDT / 23:30 CEST
Flash Wolves look to be in a pretty strong position here but G2 are looking to prove themselves. G2 Esports might not have the strongest track record when it comes to international performances but seeing as these games during the group stage round-robin are a best-of-1 G2 stand a much greater chance than usual. This could be quite a milestone for them but Flash Wolves aren’t going to go down easily. Make sure you catch the game when it goes live on Wednesday, May 10th, to find out who comes out on top!
Flash Wolves – FW have put on some fantastic games so far during the mid-season invitational 2017 and will be looking to continue this trend, but taking down the number 1 European team isn’t going to be easy. Flash Wolves have a few diverse and difficult strategies which will be hard to G2 to deal with so FW will be feeling confident here.
G2 Esports – With a lack of strong performances on the international stage G2 might be feeling a little worried. But seeing as this is a best-of-1 series and not a series G2 Esports only need to take a single game. Being the stronger European team is no small feat and if we’ve learned anything it’s that G2 can put on strong performances in just about any situation, as long as they are focused.
Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. I think this will be a game where G2 Esports are able to prove themselves, Flash Wolves had a strong series against BAU SuperMassive but it turns out they were the weaker of the performing teams. I think G2 will come out on top of this game with fantastic use of strategy.
Match #5: SKT Telecom T1 vs. GIGABYTE Marines
Start time: May 10th, 03:30 PM PDT / 06:30 PM EDT / 00:30 CEST (the next day)
SK Telecom T1 are one of the favourite performing teams for the tournament and have always performing extremely well on an international stage, Gigabyte Marines are definitely an underdog but have shown previously that they can put on strong performances and take down the top fan favourite teams. Will GAM surprise us all? Tune into the game when it goes live on Wednesday, May 10th, to find out!
SK Telecom T1 – SKT T1 are a team to be feared, especially by those underdog teams performing in this tournament. SKT T1 have always put on outstanding performances, both in their region and during international tournaments. They would appear to be the favourite of these 2 teams as well as a favourite in comparison to many of the performing teams so GAM have got their hands full here.
Gigabyte Marines – GAM are likely to run into a lot of trouble during this game but they’ve proven previously that they’re up to take task of taking down top performing teams. In a best-of-1 series they’ve got less to worry about, if they focus on a confident performance they’re more likely to cause trouble and open up opportunities to find a lead.
Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. SKTT1 have a much stronger performance history in comparison to GAM, this takes in their own regional performances as well as their international performances into account. Just about any performing team would have trouble against SKTT1, GAM just drew the short straw.
Match #6: Team SoloMid vs. Team WE
Start time: May 10th, 04:30 PM PDT / 07:30 PM EDT / 01:30 CEST (the next day)
Team Solo Mid fought hard to earn their place in the group stage, they’ve already shown that they’re willing to go to through great lengths and are willing to fight with everything they have to push forward, this will be absolutely necessary for this game. Team WE are going to fight tooth and nail to push forward here but it’s definitely going to be a challenge. Tune into the game when it goes live on Wednesday, May 10th to find out who comes out on top!
Team Solo Mid – They might have shown some strengths during their series against Gigabyte Marines but they had also shown quite a few weaknesses, if Team WE manage to take a hold of any of those shown weaknesses TSM are going to be in a lot of trouble. Team Solo Mid is determined and has great potential but their international performance history is lacking slightly.
Team WE – Team WE are far from an underdog team, they earned their seed in this tournament through consistent great strength and it’s likely to show during this series. They’ve already managed to analyse performances from Team Solo Mid and It could give them the knowledge they need to create advantageous opportunities.
Prediction: Team WE Victory. Team WE are yet to perform during this tournament but they’ve had outstanding performances in their own region and have an advantage over TSM here because they’ve been able to analyse the games of TSM. I think this’ll give them the step forward they’ll need to take this game.
Match #1: SKT Telecom T1 vs. Team SoloMid
Start time: May 11th, 11:00 AM PDT / 02:00 PM EDT / 20:00 CEST
SK Telecom T1 have had a pretty successful start to MSI so far but the same can’t really be said for Team Solo Mid. SKTT1 are quickly showing their dominance as they make their way through this tournament whilst taking down their competition but there’s still a lot for them to overcome. If Team Solo Mid manages to boost their morale and play with confidence they might be able to pull something off. Will TSM pull it off? Tune into the game when it goes live on Thursday, May 11th, to find out!
SK Telecom T1 – SKTT1 are taking down the competition and are showing great strategy, even when they’re making mistakes they’re quickly repairing the problem and gaining more advantages. Their strategies are going to be difficult to overcome and will require a significant amount of pressure because SKTT1 play with a phenomenal amount of confidence and appear fearless.
Team Solo Mid – TSM have had some trouble but they definitely shouldn’t be counted out yet. TSM are a team that are able to take advantage when they’re underestimated. They’ve got great analysis and can quickly adapt throughout a game, they’ve just been lacking some confidence and pressure.
SKTT1 look to be at an advantage here, they’ve made a few mistakes in their individual games but they’ve always been able to quickly repair it and gain significant leads. Team Solo Mid are close to being in a similar position but are slower at repairing their mistakes and it’s giving their opponents too much time to spread their advantage and gain leads. Team Solo Mid are definitely going to have a hard time here but if they can shut down the opposing top lane and slowly focus on the bottom side river they could create areas of control which will lead to phenomenal opportunities.
Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. SKTT1 are looking extremely formidable and this has become a usual occurrence for them. They’re making minor mistakes but are able to quickly step forward with great confidence and force themselves into advantageous positions. Their macro management is their strength and it’ll be difficult to overcome.
Match #2: GIGABYTE Marines vs. Flash Wolves
Start time: May 11th, 12:00 PM PDT / 03:00 PM EDT / 21:00 CEST
Gigabyte Marines are proving to be quite a difficult team to overcome, they managed to take down Team Solo Mid and achieve their revenge and they even caused a lot of issues for SK Telecom T1! Flash Wolves have shown some of their own strengths but were unable to push forward much. They had a relatively close game against G2 Esports but lacked in all areas against Team WE. How well can they handle GAM? Tune into the game when it goes live on Thursday, May 11th, to find out!
Gigabyte Marines – GAM have been performing surprisingly well. They came into the tournament relatively unknown to the majority of viewers and have been challenging those well- known teams. They took down TSM and took their revenge and were able to keep SKTT1 down during the earlier stages of their encounter. They were matching SKTT1 for quite a while until their macro management let them down.
Flash Wolves – Against G2 Esports the Flash Wolves managed to hold their own for a large portion of the game, they were showing some of their strengths but their weaknesses also shone through. They’re going to need to watch their team fighting, try and skirmish during the earlier stages of the game and work on their macro management.
Seeing as this is a best-of-1 I think Gigabyte Marines are going to push Flash Wolves to their limits. Gigabyte Marines have been pushing every team to their limits during these games and are proving to be quite a challenging team to overcome. Their micro management and mechanics are proving difficult to overcome and their use of their jungler is giving them advantages which need to be avoided by these opposing teams. Flash Wolves are going to need to head into this game with some serious aggression and early champion picks if they want to come out on top of this.
Prediction: Flash Wolves Victory. I think GAM is going to put up a significant fight here but Flash Wolves are experienced when it comes to early game fights and skirmishes, if they can channel their early game strengths I think they could find quite a quick lead.
Match #3: G2 Esports vs. Team WE
Start time: May 11th, 01:00 PM PDT / 04:00 PM EDT / 22:00 CEST
G2 Esports are making apparent improvements, their usual strategy for performing on an international stage is to choke and significantly underperform but this time they’ve actually made an impact. They were able to take down the Flash Wolves, but so did Team WE. Team WE managed to take down FW with a much more significant and definite lead, can G2 Esports hold them off? Tune into the game when it goes live on Thursday, May 11th, to find out!
G2 Esports – They’ve shown some new strengths and their international performances have been improving but now they’re going up against a team that trumped their own performance significantly. They’re going to need to take cautions steps throughout the game and work closely with their shot-caller for strong macro management, a few mistakes and their chances could quickly crumble.
Team WE – WE had a much stronger performance when taking down the Flash Wolves and they managed to show some serious dominance. They took the game with a huge lead and were strong throughout all stages of the game. They’ll need to watch out for the G2 rotations but with how well they’ve performed so far they’re definitely going to play with confidence.
Prediction: Team WE Victory. Team WE had a bit of trouble against Team Solo Mid but were often able to recuperate quickly, this will keep them in a good position against G2 if things happen to go against them. Team WE have often appeared equal during those earlier stages and have quickly erupted into dominance, I expect this to happen against G2 Esports here.
Match #4: Flash Wolves vs. Team SoloMid
Start time: May 11th, 02:00 PM PDT / 05:00 PM EDT / 23:00 CEST
Team Solo Mid are definitely improving, as long as they avoid skirmishing too often during the earlier stages of the game they can stabilise their pressure and create opportunities using their macro management. Team Solo Mid has been adapting a split pushing strategy but Flash Wolves have been showing strengths when playing at a slower pace. Can they push TSM back? Tune into the game on Thursday, 11th May, to find out!
Flash Wolves – Flash Wolves are starting to look like an underdog team of this tournament, which is quite surprising considering they’ve previously been known as the SKTT1 Kryptonite. Their strengths seem to be waning and teams have been figuring them out but if they can get into a comfortable position they’ll still be able to cause a lot of trouble for Team Solo Mid.
Team Solo Mid – Their start to the tournament was lacking but their performance against Team WE has shown us that TSM are figuring out their opponents, their analysis and adaption to play against these different teams has been giving them advantages which would be missed by a lot of other teams.
Prediction: Team Solo Mid Victory. They’d shown some phenomenal adaption and strength against Team WE and their ability to control the map in multiple different ways is going to be something that Flash Wolves need to watch out for. With how well TSM’s macro management has been in the slower paced games I think they’re going to find a way to claw ahead of FW and take the game.
Match #5: GIGABYTE Marines vs. G2 Esports
Start time: May 11th, 03:00 PM PDT / 06:00 PM EDT / 00:00 CEST (the next day)
This game is going to be quite concerning for G2 Esports. G2 have shown that they’re able to control a slower paced game and can maintain a lead to some degree but GAM play aggressive and will take some ridiculous fights. GAM is going to pressure the earlier stages of the game and this could quickly push G2 into a difficult position. Can G2 Esports hold off? Tune into the game on Thursday, May 11th, to find out!
Gigabyte Marines – GAM play fast, their aggressive movements during the earlier stages of their games has often opened up some phenomenal opportunities in which they’ve found advantages. G2 Esports have often had trouble when falling behind so if GAM can find that lead with their aggressive style they could look to build a lead very quickly.
G2 Esports – If G2 manage to slow down the pace of the game they could balance the gold throughout the earlier stages of the game and find their lead later on with superior macro management. But if they want to adapt to the more aggressive style they’ve definitely got the jungler that can make it all possible. If they aim to make quick rotations they could look to shut down GAM early and then adapt into a slower style later on.
Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. With G2 Esports having great early game potential I don’t think they’ll fall to the early pressures from GAM, because of this a lot of GAM’s win condition goes out of the window. I think G2 will equalise the early game and take a lead with superior map control, leading them to victory.
Match #6: Team WE vs. SKT Telecom T1
Start time: May 11th, 04:00 PM PDT / 07:00 PM EDT / 01:00 CEST (the next day)
Team WE happened to fall to Team Solo Mid at the end of MSI 2017 Day 1 and it appeared they lacked the confidence to take the fights that they needed. They were slow to adapt to the strategies of their opponent and they didn’t focus much on their recoveries. SKTT1 are likely to take advantage of this but if both teams are playing slowly, which is likely, Team WE stand a pretty good chance. Can Team WE stop the currently undefeated SKTT1? Tune into the game on Thursday, May 11th, to find out!
Team WE – Team WE didn’t play to their strengths when they were against Team Solo Mid and their recoveries were extremely slow. Team WE like to play extremely slowly and farm heavily, this could be achievable against SKTT1 because they’re also a fairly slow paced team. If Team WE can pull it off their macro game could give them advantages during the later stages of the game.
SK Telecom T1 – SKTT1 are a slower paced team, they can adapt to play with some early aggression but it’s not likely to happen against Team WE. I think we’ll find some surprise rotations happen and some quick skirmishes occur but SKTT1 are likely to play with comfort. Their macro management is probably the best in this entire tournament and if they’re not force out of their comfort zone then they’re likely to find a way to stay on top.
Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. SKTT1 can adapt easily to create pressure in the earlier stages of the game but I don’t think that’ll happen. I think this game will be fairly slow paced and will very slowly tilt into SKTT1’s favour. Their control of the map and their macro management is yet to be defeated and I expect them to continue proving their strength.
Match #1: G2 Esports vs. Team SoloMid
Start time: May 12th, 11:00 AM PDT / 02:00 PM EDT / 20:00 CEST
G2 Esports have equalised their overall round-robin score and are making their way into a fairly good position on the ladder. Team Solo Mid has taken a single victory so far and their consistency is something they’re going to be worrying about. Their mistakes and giving away games and G2 are definitely a team that will capitalise on them heavily. Can TSM maintain a more consistent style? Tune into the game on Friday, May 12th, to find out!
G2 Esports – G2 Esports are in a fairly balanced position but if they want to succeed during this tournament they’re going to need to avoid making such simple mistakes. Playing too aggressively when they were facing off against GAM could have cost them the game. Play confident and smart, not confident and silly; if they can do that they should be able to pressure Team Solo Mid.
Team Solo Mid – TSM have been making many mistakes, they’re not small mistakes either. With consistent mistakes being made instead of strong and consistent performances, they’re finding themselves falling to the bottom end of the ladder during the 2017 MSI Group Stage and that’s exactly what they want to avoid. If they were to play with a bit more patience they’ll be able to look for advantages to gain and maintain a lead.
G2 Esports appear to be in an advantageous position here seeing as they’ve clawed their way into a better position on the ladder and have had slightly more consistent performances. It only appears to be a minor advantage though, both teams have been making detrimental mistakes and that’s all it takes to lose this game. I expect G2 Esports to come out on top during the earlier stages of the game with more significant jungle pressure but as the middle and later stages of the game approaches I think Team Solo Mid could find some advantages and find opportunities to pressure from.
Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. G2 Esports have had fairly good performances so far during the 2017 MSI tournament and their bottom lane has been thriving, if TSM can’t find a way to shut that down they’re going to be in trouble. I think G2 Esports are going to find a few opportunities later in the game which will give them advantages; using that lead to push for a strong lead and the victory.
Match #2: SKT Telecom T1 vs. Flash Wolves
Start time: May 12th, 12:00 PM PDT / 03:00 PM EDT / 21:00 CEST
SK Telecom T1 is looking like the favourite and most formidable team performing on the MSI stage. They ran into some trouble when facing off against Team WE but also had some phenomenal plays. Flash Wolves are a bit stumped but equalised their own score by taking 2 victories on Day 2. They’ve previously been known as the SKTT1 Kryptonite but will it show through? Tune into the game on Friday, May 12th, to find out!
SK Telecom T1 – SKTT1 are proving to be a challenge even when they’re being pushed behind in the earlier stages of the game, their confidence and macro management is something to be feared as they’re often able to recuperate from mistakes or losses quickly. SKTT1 have shown some weakness during their early stage performances which they’re going to need to cover as some early aggression from the opposing teams could be problematic.
Flash Wolves – FW put on some phenomenal performances during Day 2 of the 2017 MSI Tournament and have equalised their overalls score after a weak start. This improvement by them could be foreshadowing their climb up the MSI ladder as they know challenge an old rival. FW will need to be careful as SKTT1 can be relentless but if FW can find some early advantages and quickly capitalise with a lead they could force SKTT1 into a very defensive position.
SK Telecom T1 appears to be at an advantage here, they’re still undefeated as we’re heading into Day 3 of the 2017 MSI Tournament and they’ve only been getting stronger. They’ve shown some weakness during their early stage performances and if Flash Wolves can create opportunities during that stage they could try to pry open a lead but with how quickly SKTT1 have shown they can recuperate it’s going to be more than just challenging.
Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. We’ve seen SKTT1 show multiple different play style and strategies and even when they’re picking champions that they’re less confidence on their team play isn’t hindered. They’ve shown that they can play with patience and wait for those perfect opportunities and because of this I think they’ll find a way on top of FW, possibly after some early difficulties.
Match #3: GIGABYTE Marines vs. Team WE
Start time: May 12th, 01:00 PM PDT / 04:00 PM EDT / 22:00 CEST
We’ve learned a lot already whilst watching Gigabyte Marines and one of the most important things is that underestimating them simply isn’t an option. They’ve been able to push some of the most significant teams at this tournament to a breaking point and because of this I think they’ll cause a lot more issues for the competing teams in this tournament in their future games. Can Team WE hold off the GAM aggression? Tune into the game on Friday, May 12th, to find out!
Gigabyte Marines – GAM’s aggressive and reckless play-style has often had them finding an early lead but that’s quickly lost with mistakes of over-aggression. If they can tune their aggression to find the lead and then slow down the pace and wait for more advantageous opportunities they could start to become an even more formidable opponent.
Team WE – Team WE kept SKTT1 on edge for the majority of their game during Day 2 of the MSI 2017 tournament, they’ve shown great ability to adapt but how well can they handle the early stage aggression? They’ve often been stumped in their losses due to their own mistakes so if they can slow down the pace of the game and make GAM play more slowly they can look for opportunities to build their late game, where they will thrive.
Prediction: Team WE Victory. I think Gigabyte Marines are going to push Team WE to the edge during the early and middle stages of the game but with Team WE likely picking a later scaling composition and being experienced and farming and stalling I think in time they will find their way into a more dominant position to take hold of the game.
Match #4: G2 Esports vs. Flash Wolves
Start time: May 12th, 02:00 PM PDT / 05:00 PM EDT / 23:00 CEST
G2 Esports have been improving and have managed to equalise their own score on the ladder and as days progress we’re getting a better idea of each teams overall power ranking. G2 Esports is looking surprisingly strong in comparison to a lot of these other performing teams and they’re likely to give Flash Wolves a hard time. Only 1 of these teams can take that additional step forward, but who will it be? Tune into the game when it goes live on Friday, May 12th, to find out if it’s Flash Wolves or G2 Esports!
G2 Esports – G2 are making slight improvements and are slowly working their way through the competition but Flash Wolves are going to be a challenge. Flash Wolves have shown that they can adapt and if G2 are unable to create advantageous opportunities they could lose out to the slower control of FW. Early jungle aggression could be exactly what G2 needs in this match-up.
Flash Wolves – Keeping up with early information to watch out for the aggression and control from the G2 Esports jungler will be a key component to FW taking control of the earlier stages of the game. Flash Wolves are going to want to look for opportunities around objectives and are likely to aim to pick off some of their opponents and this could quickly throw them into a dominant position.
Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. I think G2 Esports are going to create some form of control during the earlier stages of the game with a more aggressive jungler, their middle stage might be a bit more choppy and FW are likely to fight back at this point but once the bottom lane of G2 gets rolling I think they’ll find a way to take the game.
Match #5: GIGABYTE Marines vs. SKT Telecom T1
Start time: May 12th, 03:00 PM PDT / 06:00 PM EDT / 00:00 CEST (the next day)
Gigabyte Marines and SK Telecom T1 have previously faced off on the 2017 MSI stage and SK Telecom T1 took the game. They’re already in an advantageous position heading into this as they’re yet to be defeated and hold a lead in the head to head. GAM were able to cause a lot of problems for SKT previously but were unable to capitalise on much of it, can they do more this time around? Tune into the game on Friday, May 12th, to find out!
Gigabyte Marines – GAM have been pushing teams to their limits consistently and their early aggression with overbearing pressure has often given them a lead. They’ve been quite unsuccessful in using those leads to create more opportunities but during SK Telecom T1 they can’t afford to slow down, they’ll need to keep the pressure up.
SK Telecom T1 – SKTT1 are undefeated and are the only performing team to be in that position, they’ve shown that they can adapt to the many different play styles of the other performing teams at the MSI tournament and I don’t think this game is going to be any different. I think they’ll narrow down the gap more quickly in this game and prove that they’re the current #1 team at MSI.
Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. I expect Gigabyte Marines to continue their strategy of early pressure and aggression but I don’t think it’ll push SKTT1 into an overly bad position. SKTT1 have always recuperated from lost opportunities and I think they’re going to be in a stronger position throughout this game in comparison to the 1st time they faced GAM.
Match #6: Team WE vs. Team SoloMid
Start time: May 12th, 04:00 PM PDT / 07:00 PM EDT / 01:00 CEST (the next day)
Their previous conflict, on Day 1 of the 2017 MSI Tournament, was surprisingly close but TSM adapted in a quicker and more dominant fashion that Team WE. Team Solo Mid have shown that they can play through a slower style and create great opportunities but will it be enough to take yet another victory off of Team WE? Tune into the game when it goes live on Friday, May 12th, to find out!
Team WE – Team WE are yet to really be forced into an overly negative position but last time Team Solo Mid got the upper hand during the later stages of the game. Considering Team WE are a slower paced team they shouldn’t let such advantages occur during the later stages, they’re going to need to work on their macro management and later game lane control but I think they’ll appear stronger during this game than in their previous when they faced off against TSM.
Team Solo Mid – TSM have been having a very hard time in the 2017 MSI Tournament. They’ve been inconsistent and have regularly made mistakes, this has had them lose strong positions and fall under unknown pressures. They’re going to need to get a grip in the jungle and cause more global pressure to free up their lanes, this is exactly what they were able to do when they last faced Team WE and here’s to hoping they can do it again.
Prediction: Team Solo Mid Victory. In the previous game where these teams faced off there were very few disparities between the individual players and I think it’ll be a similar thing this time around. Team Solo Mid have definitely been inconsistent but when the opportunity to play slowly is handed to them they’re more likely to find a way on top; think that’ll happen here.
Match #1: Team WE vs. G2 Esports
Start time: May 13th, 11:00 AM PDT / 02:00 PM EDT / 20:00 CEST
A lot of competing teams are falling into odd places; they’re making weak appearances and then coming back strong. Both Team WE and G2 Esports have had similar showings and during Day 3 of the MSI Tournament they both lost their earlier games and came back to equalise. Are these teams having consistency issues? If so, how will it impact this game? Tune into the match when it goes live on Saturday, May 13th, to find out!
Team WE – Team WE took a fairly rough loss to the Gigabyte Marines in their earliest performance on Day 3 but when the final game came around, playing off against Team Solo Mid once again, they were able to pick themselves back up and show some form of dominance. If the confidence carries over and Team WE sticks to a comfortable strategy they’re going to be problematic for G2.
G2 Esports – Fighting for the opportunity to take a position above Team WE, G2 Esports have been solidifying their strategy and are gradually looking more confidence. They took a loss to Team Solo Mid, who’ve just been taken down by Team WE, which could indicate something significant in terms of how difficult it’s going to be for them to handle Team WE.
Team WE would appear to be at an advantage here, they’re finding their stride and are looking more like themselves, or at least putting on performances close to the level they were performing at in their own region. G2 Esports have quite a good chance here and the advantage that Team WE would appear to have is only minor. Both teams are in a good position on the ladder and even though Team WE is on top in the head to head between these 2 teams the recent performances of G2 Esports have been strong and could give Team WE a lot of trouble.
Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. Team WE do have a good position here and are likely to cause a lot of trouble throughout the game but I think the minor improvements that G2 have made over the past few days will give them the earlier lead they’ll need to take the game.
Match #2: Team SoloMid vs. GIGABYTE Marines
Start time: May 13th, 12:00 PM PDT / 03:00 PM EDT / 21:00 CEST
In yet another encounter, these 2 performing teams have been surprising. Team Solo Mid is still having some serious consistency issues and this could open up great opportunities for the Gigabyte Marines. GAM recent had an outstanding performance against the Team WE and if they continue to play on that level they could find themselves climbing the MSI ladder.
Team Solo Mid – Here’s top hoping they’ve learned how to deal with the relentless aggression from Gigabyte Marines. You’d think that on the 7th encounter between these 2 performing teams that Team Solo Mid, a world renowned team, could devise a strategy to survive the earlier stages of the game. If they don’t play with patience and opt for aggression they’ll be playing with a double edged sword.
Gigabyte Marines – Gigabyte Marines have definitely been putting on some strong performances. Not only are they pushing just about every performing team to their limits but they’re also finding a few games. They’ve taken down Team Solo Mid on numerous occasions already and their aggression is formidable.
Gigabyte Marines actually appear to be at an advantage here, Team Solo Mid are having an extremely hard time dealing with early pressure. We’ve seen it in their previous matches against GAM and we recently witnessed it when TSM faced off against G2 Esports. They were unable to cope with the earlier pressures and if they can’t find a way to stay on an equal level they’re going to cause issues for their later stage control and team fighting. Gigabyte Marines have stuck with their strategy of confident pressure and aggression and it doesn’t look like Team Solo Mid have been able to handle it, but as days have passed some minor improvements have been made. Maybe they’re finally ready to counter the unstoppable force that is the GAM early game.
Prediction: Gigabyte Marines Victory. With both teams cruising slowly at the bottom of the ladder it would appear they’re on a similar level, but Gigabyte Marines have been coming out on top of Team Solo Mid in recent matches and their early pressure will be extremely difficult for TSM to control, because of this I think GAM will find a way to relentlessly pressure throughout the game.
Match #3: Flash Wolves vs. SKT Telecom T1
Start time: May 13th, 01:00 PM PDT / 04:00 PM EDT / 22:00 CEST
There’s not even been a single day between these 2 teams performing against each other, there’s not going to be many changes but in a best-of-1 there can be entirely new adaptions made to compositions and strategies which could bring us yet another phenomenal performance. SK Telecom T1 came out on top of the previous encounter but can they do it again? Tune into the game when it goes live on Saturday, May 13th, to find out!
Flash Wolves – Flash Wolves were unable to take a single game on Day 3 of the MSI tournament and they’re likely feeling a loss of morale, they’re not too far from climbing the ladder though and these individual game performances could make the biggest difference. They started to fall against SKTT1 quite early so maybe they’ll need to improve their vision and information to stay safer during those vulnerable stages.
SK Telecom T1 – SK Telecom T1 put on a formidable performance against the Flash Wolves on Day 3 of the MSI Tournament. Everything was precise and calculated; once 10mins had passed on the rift they started to execute confident plays and quickly built a sizable lead. Even if they play more passively I think they’ve got quite an advantage here.
Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. There’s not been much time for significant changes to be made and with how dominant SKTT1 have been throughout this tournament, especially in the previous performance against the Flash Wolves, I can only expect them to come out on top with relative confidence.
Match #4: G2 Esports vs. GIGABYTE Marines
Start time: May 13th, 02:00 PM PDT / 05:00 PM EDT / 23:00 CEST
In their previous encounter the G2 Esports roster managed to create some early pressure of their own and have been adapting it ever since. This gives them a greater chance to withstand the earlier pressures from the Gigabyte Marines but with how confident their performances have been it’s still likely to be a very tremendous early game. Make sure you catch the game when it goes live on Saturday, May 13th, to find out who comes out on top!
G2 Esports – G2 have taken a lead in the head to head between these 2 performing teams and having made adaptions to their early stage performances they’re looking more formidable, especially in this match-up. They’ve taken down Gigabyte Marines previously and now they’re improving they’re only going to be bringing more to this performance.
Gigabyte Marines – GAM have definitely been stepping up and their early aggression is only becoming more difficult for these other performing teams to handle. GAM took a huge step forward when they were able to take down Team WE and they did so in spectacular fashion. If they’re able to pump out such confident aggression once again the adaptions that G2 have made might be null.
Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. G2 Esports have made adaptions to their early game strategy and it’s going to make quite a difference during this performance. Along with having a more refined middle and late game strategies it’s likely they’re equalise the early game and find a way on top later on.
Match #5: Team SoloMid vs. SKT Telecom T1
Start time: May 13th, 03:00 PM PDT / 06:00 PM EDT / 00:00 CEST (the next day)
SK Telecom T1 previously took a pretty confident victory over Team Solo Mid but after TSM took down G2 Esports they must be feeling confident. Team Solo Mid have still been looking inconsistent but if they’re performing well they’re likely to bring us a fantastic game and are also likely to force SKTT1 into some difficult positions. SK Telecom T1 is still undefeated but can they keep it up? Tune into the game when it goes live on Saturday, May 13th, to find out!
Team Solo Mid – TSM managed to take down G2 Esports in one of the most phenomenal games of the 2017 MSI Tournament so far. They managed to stall out the game after losing earlier opportunities and that’s no small feat, they clawed their way back and this game could turn into something similar; at least now they have the experience executing it.
SK Telecom T1 – SK Telecom T1 are still executing their strategies with phenomenal precision and they’re yet to drop a single game. They’ve fallen to some pressures but have always recuperated extremely quickly, because of this they’ve never fallen far behind. Being able to execute their strategies without much risk definitely gives them an edge over the competition.
Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. SK Telecom T1 are looking like a fairly unstoppable force, with the additional inconsistency that Team Solo Mid have been suffering from it would appear that SK Telecom T1 are at a very serious advantage for this game and I expect it to show.
Match #6: Flash Wolves vs. Team WE
Start time: May 13th, 04:00 PM PDT / 07:00 PM EDT / 01:00 CEST (the next day)
Flash Wolves are looking like one of the weaker performing teams of the tournament are they’re having some really bad performance patches. Team WE have been performing on a slightly better level than the Flash Wolves but have also been regularly hitting bumps of their own. Both teams are likely to play at a fairly slow pace, testing each other early, but only one of them can come out on top.
Flash Wolves – They’ve got a tough start to their day and it’s being followed up with this encounter, taking down Team WE isn’t going to be easy and in their previous encounter Team WE took advantage of every opportunity. Flash Wolves have shown that they can crunch out some early aggression and that could be a key component to them taking control of this game.
Team WE – WE have been looking stronger in those typical slower paced games but when they were facing early aggression they absolutely crumbled. They’re going to need to build some early defences and cast out wards to avoid any possible early pushes from Flash Wolves, this should solidify their early game and they’ve already proven to have a superior late game.
Prediction: Team WE Victory. Flash Wolves’ best bet at building a lead is during those earlier stages where Team WE has shown they can crumble. If FW don’t take advantage of that stage then the game advantage quickly shifts in favour of Team WE, I don’t think FW will be able to pressure enough during those earlier stages and Team WE will take the late game.
Match #1: SKT Telecom T1 vs. G2 Esports
Start time: May 14th, 11:00 AM PDT / 02:00 PM EDT / 20:00 CEST
SK Telecom T1 fell to the Flash Wolves on Day 4 of the MSI 2017 tournament so their undefeated run is over, they’re still standing strong and a lot is separating the from the other competing teams but if they’re knocked at all then G2 Esports could take advantage of this opportunity. Can SK Telecom T1 strike back and continue their pace at the top of the ladder? Tune into the game on Sunday, May 14th, to find out!
SK Telecom T1 – SK Telecom T1 have had a spotless record, at least they did. They fell to the Flash Wolves on day 4 but with such an old and long lasting rivalry it was always a possibility. They’ve been a weakness to SKTT1 for quite some time and it’s unlikely to play out like that when facing off against the majority of these other competing teams; unless they’re taking notes, of course.
G2 Esports – Definitely on a downward spiral, G2 Esports looked fairly strong for quite a lot of this tournament but come Day 4 and they’re unable to even grasp the idea of victory. They lost both of their games when they were previously in a good position, could it be foreshadowing of their future in this tournament?
SK Telecom T1 are quite clearly at an advantage here, they’re significantly ahead on the ladder and their strategies are more refined, their gameplay has been significantly better and G2 Esports are hitting a point where the pressure is becoming overbearing. Their performances recently have definitely been lacklustre and with their international performances being weak in history this is definitely a tipping point for them. We’ve reached day 5 of the MSI Group Stage and if they’re unable to put on absolutely outstanding performances there’s no telling as to how they’re going to handle this game.
Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. SK Telecom T1 may have lost to the Flash Wolves but they’re so far from being over. They’ve still shown an outstanding amount of strength and resolve. G2 Esports on the other hand are being overburdened by the pressure and their performances have been getting weaker, I think SK Telecom T1 will take this game with some degree of confidence.
Match #2: Team SoloMid vs. Flash Wolves
Start time: May 14th, 12:00 PM PDT / 03:00 PM EDT / 21:00 CEST
Team Solo Mid managed to take their game against Gigabyte Marines and have put an end to that rivalry, at least for now. Their performance was relatively good but it wasn’t quite “Beat SKTT1” good. Flash Wolves, on the other hand, managed to take down the reigning champions, SKTT1, but later fell to Team WE. Is it just consistency holding these teams back? Well, only one can come out on top here and it’s becoming a make or break situation! Tune into the game when it goes live on Sunday, May 14th, to find out who comes out on top!
Team Solo Mid – TSM have definitely had issues during this tournament, they’ve often been in strong and stable positions but have made some pretty major mistakes which have lost them games. A lot of these mistakes are made by individual players on an individual level; the blame isn’t spread throughout the team because of something major. The individual players need to start working on their positioning and pressure if they want to pick this up.
Flash Wolves – After taking down SK Telecom T1, the Flash Wolves must’ve been feeling strong and confident as day 4 of the MSI Tournament progressed. But in a quick hit they felt to Team WE. After taking down such a strong and formidable opponent losing to a less consistent team can be concerning. Are Flash Wolves having consistency issues of their own, and if so how much will it impact this game?
Flash Wolves look to be at an advantage here, they’ve really been suffering from consistency issues though, maybe more-so than Team Solo Mid. Both teams’ performance strength has been difficult to determine because one moment they’re playing with very few mistakes and are executing their strategies to near perfection but just a single day later they’re crumbling under the pressure and are unable to make much happen. If we’re expecting one of these teams to underperform during this game then I think Flash Wolves have had weaker performances across the tournament and TSM might be able to pick up advantage on their innate strengths, but if Team Solo Mid falters at all then Flash Wolves will quickly progress.
Prediction: Team Solo Mid Victory. I think Team Solo Mid’s standard performances have been stronger than those of the Flash Wolves. Even when losing a game Team Solo Mid have often put up a challenging fight and really held their own. Flash Wolves have been less likely to put on those consistent performances and I think it’s going to be their downfall here.
Match #3: Team WE vs. GIGABYTE Marines
Start time: May 14th, 01:00 PM PDT / 04:00 PM EDT / 22:00 CEST
In their previous encounter the Gigabyte Marines made absolute fools of Team WE. They managed to trample the earlier stages of the game and ran away with every possible advantage that was open to them. Their relentless and aggressive style has been extremely difficult for these other competing teams to handle but it was obviously just too much for Team WE before, can they make up for it this time? Tune into the game on Sunday, May 14th, to find out!
Team WE – WE have had a fantastic Day 4 at the MSI tournament and they’re looking more stable, but when the early aggression kicks in and they’re being relentlessly pressure just how well can they handle it? In the previous encounter they weren’t prepared for it at all but I think with the additional experience they’ll be able to slow down the pace of the game and play to their true advantages.
Gigabyte Marines – GAM had a dominating and extremely formidable performance against Team WE previously. Their performance will be looked over and examined as one of the best executions of early game aggression, if they can achieve something close to it again then they’re going to cause a significant amount of problems for Team WE once again.
Prediction: Team WE Victory. With the additional experience playing against the Gigabyte Marines and having additional confidence from a good day of games I think Team WE are going to come into this with much better preparation. I’ll be looking for some earlier control by them which will expand into their middle and later game strengths, leading them into a slow, possibly difficult, victory.
Match #4: Team SoloMid vs. G2 Esports
Start time: May 14th, 02:00 PM PDT / 05:00 PM EDT / 23:00 CEST
TSM took a victory in their previous encounter against G2 Esports but it was one hell of a challenge for them. It wouldn’t have felt like much of a victory considering they were being dominated for the majority of the game and managed to take the win because of later game mistakes by G2 Esports. If TSM put on a strong performance they’ll stand a good chance but the win conditions have definitely changed between these 2 performing teams. Will it be EU or NA this time? Tune into the game on Sunday, May 14th, to find out!
Team Solo Mid – A relatively good set of performances on Day 4 is making Team Solo Mid look better, but still not refined. Their consistency issues are still being held by individual player mistakes and if they’re occurring too often then an early strength from G2 Esports could quite easily hand this game over. They’re going to need to communicate clearly and make sure they’re in tune, then they’ll be a thriving force during this game.
G2 Esports – Mistakes have made them lose a game to Team Solo Mid previously and there’s no more room for error. They’re going to want to try to apply some of their early strength during this game and they’ll really need to utilize the strength of their jungler if they’re looking to take an earlier lead. With this they’ll be able to create some phenomenal opportunities but it’s definitely easier said than done.
Prediction: Team Solo Mid Victory. G2 Esports have been on a bit of a downward spiral and they’ve been having a hard time, all while Team Solo Mid have slowly been improving their consistency and their individual player’s gameplay. TSM’s mistakes were made on and individual level and if they can push past that they’ll be able to abuse the later game mistakes that G2 have regularly been making.
Match #5: Flash Wolves vs. GIGABYTE Marines
Start time: May 14th, 03:00 PM PDT / 06:00 PM EDT / 00:00 CEST (the next day)
The Gigabyte Marines might be performing on their own level, forcing other teams to play with significantly more aggression during the earlier stages of the game; or at least more than they’re used to, but they’re far from being a strategic and informed team. Their strategy has been linear and other teams have been adapting, including Flash Wolves, who were previously able to best the aggression. Can FW do it again? Tune into the game on Sunday, May 14th, to find out!
Flash Wolves – FW have only improved since Day 2 of the 2017 MSI Tournament, which was when they last encountered the Gigabyte Marines. Their consistency has stepped up slightly and their adaptions have been noticeable, with the additional experience from their past being applied to the early aggression they’re absolutely no strangers to handling it.
Gigabyte Marines – GAM are hitting a wall, their strategy is being figure out and is now being used against them. They managed to take a game off of an underperforming G2 Esports on Day 4 but being bested by Flash Wolves previously just leaves them in a more difficult position. If they’re finding that the early aggression isn’t giving them the opportunities that they’re looking for then they’re going to need to adapt quickly throughout the game and work on their macro management.
Prediction: Flash Wolves Victory. Flash Wolves have been steadily improving and they’re no strangers to the style of early aggression. Their entire region’s strategy and game-plan used to be based on early aggression and starving the economy of their opponents, GAM reflect this and I think the additional experience along with the steady improvements make FW a fairly considerable favourite, but only if they can maintain the early stages of the game.
Match #6: SKT Telecom T1 vs. Team WE
Start time: May 14th, 04:00 PM PDT / 07:00 PM EDT / 01:00 CEST (the next day)
When these 2 performing teams last faced off it appeared to be fairly one sided, at least once a tipping point was reached. There was definitely a fair amount of action but SKTT1 had a better scaling composition and played to their strengths in a more precise manner. The game was slow paced and Team WE stood a great chance but fell like dominos. Have the learned from their previous experience? Tune into the game on Sunday, May 14th, to find out!
SK Telecom T1 – SKTT1 have finally lost a game but that’s hardly tainted their position on the ladder. The majority of performing teams have outstanding weaknesses that are fairly easy to see and abuse. SK Telecom T1 are a significantly more rounded team who know how to play around their lacking strengths throughout a game and that’s why they’ve been such an outstanding team.
Team WE – They may have lost during the last encounter they had with SK Telecom T1 but they put on a pretty strong performance, at least during the earlier and middle stages of the game. A lot of their gold spread was inefficient and SKTT1 out scaled them quite significantly and that just lead to a loss of the late game but Team WE have shown quick adaptions before and could be well prepared for this.
Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. SKTT1 are at the top of the ladder for a good reason, they’re consistent and even their mistakes or weak points are quickly covered and improved. The majority of other performing teams, Team WE included, have greater weaknesses that have been difficult to work around. I think SKTT1 are going to play this at a slow pace and will find their way into a lead around the middle stages of the game, which will quickly expand as they work towards map dominance with their eyes on yet another victory.
