Formerly known as Gamers2, G2 Esports is a brand with teams competing in League of Legends (EU LCS 2017 / EU LCS 2018), Hearthstone, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Rocket League, and Vainglory. The sports organization was founded in 2013 and still has a long way to go in order to achieve the success of other teams. The future seems bright for G2 Esports because with the recent win of the EU LCS Summer Playoffs they just got a ticket to the League of Legends World Championship (LoL Worlds) 2017, as well they secured funding from important investors.
Investments in G2 Esports
On their official website, G2 Esports announced the completion of a successful round of funding with important investors. The investor group includes FC Barcelona’s star, Andre Gomes. According to the official announcement, the group of investors is diverse and all of them have vast experience in entertainment, traditional sports, and finance sectors. Besides FC Barcelona’s midfielder, other investors include Eric Mindich’s Everblue Management, MACRO Ventures, and Marc Lemann of Go4lt among others.
Regardless of your feelings for G2 Esports, whether you support them or some other esport organization, the investor lineup is pretty impressive. For instance, Eric Mindich became the youngest partner in the history of Goldman Sachs at the age of 27. Later, he went on to found Eton Park Capitol Management, a global investment firm.

MACRO Ventures uses its unique position at the intersection between Silicon Valley and Hollywood to leverage relationships with entrepreneurs, artists, executives, and investors to enhance the value of portfolio companies. G2 Esports will use the initial growth capital to enhance its talent infrastructure and to strengthen their brand and content initiatives.
It’s all about passion
Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez, the founder of G2 Esports, commented the new investments saying G2 Esports are confident in the continued growth path and their ability to create world-class teams as well as to build cutting-edge content. Most importantly, Rodriguez is thrilled that all new partners of this esports organization are passionate about esports and are committed to the global growth of G2 Esports.
The true importance of these partnerships goes beyond investments and capital, it all comes down to passion and belief that this esports brand can do great things and create teams that will make a difference and bring more quality to European esports scene.
Andre Gomes, the most surprising name on the list of investors, explained his decision to support G2 Esports mentioning he sees the future in this type of sport. We live in an increasingly digital world and potential of esports is tremendous, according to Gomes. Of course, Spanish esports organization was thrilled to have him on board primarily due to his experience as a successful player.
As G2 Esports is still evaluating all the growth prospects, it has engaged Inner Circle Sports LLC as a strategic advisor. Inner Circle Sports is the leading sports and media investment bank. This decision shows that G2 Esports is serious about their intentions to become powerful in the esports industry. They want to stay away from rash decisions that could ruin the capital and investors’ trust. Engaging a strategic advisor is a smart move to explore all the options and generate more profit and success later on.
It is important to mention that G2 Esports is among the four existing teams in European League Championship Series to apply for its North American counterpart. In fact, Gomes and other investors are a part of the team’s application for the League of Legends NA LCS 2018. If their application gets the approval, G2 Esports would have to pay $13 million for buy-in fees in order to participate in the league.
G2 Esports has big plans for the future. They secured numerous investments that will help them turn these plans into a reality and achieve the success they deserve. The most well-known investor is Andre Gomes, a midfielder from FC Barcelona.
