The Dota 2 League is back with its 5th iteration. They have not deviated much from their successful formula that have given 4 great seasons. The Dota 2 League has invited 16 of the top Dota 2 teams in the world. These 16 teams will be divided into 2 groups based on their geographical location. In the first phase of the qualification tournament, all teams will face the other teams in their division once in a best of 3 match. As the organizers have said this kind of format ” guarantees that the D2L will remain the most deeply competitive and well rounded event in existence.” The top finishers in each division will qualify directly to the qualifies directly to the grand final which will be held in Las Vegas. The 16 teams invited are:

- Team Empire
- Virtus Pro.Polar
- Invictus Gaming
- LAI Gaming
- LV Gaming
The 2nd to 5th finishers in each of the 2 divisions will now have to face each other in a sudden death playoff for the last 2 slots in the Vegas grand final. Each match will also be best of 3 with a best of 5 finals.
The LAN Finals will be held in Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 5th to 6th during the International Consumer Electronics Show. It will be a double elimination, best of 3 tournament with the finals being a best of 5.
Prize pool distribution is as follows:
The base prize pool for the Dota 2 League Season 5 is $50,000. With another $50,000 reserved for the teams travel expenses and accommodations.
1st Place: $25,000 + 20% prizepool increase
2nd Place: $15,000 + 15%
3rd Place: $7,500 + 12.5%
4th Place: $2,500 + 12.5%
Eastern Playoff Finals Loser: 10%
Western Playoff Finals Loser: 10%
Remaining Playoff Losers: 5% each
