LoL Worlds 2015: Week #2 – Day 4 | Final Day Group B

Week 2 – Day 4 (or in total Day 8) is the last day of the 2015 LoL World Championship Group Stage. Worlds Group B is playing the last 6 matches (the complete second round + possible tiebreakers) on Sunday, October 11th 2015 before the top 8 teams from all groups advance to the Knockout Stage of the tournament. Only two teams from Group B will survive this day so a lot of action is guaranteed. Against all odds Cloud9 is leading the group after the first round coming into Day 8 undefeated with 3 points. The other 3 teams (Fnatic, AHQ and Invictus Gaming) are tied for second place holding one point each. Still every team is capable of winning Group B but Cloud9 certainly has the edge at the moment. We will see how the fourth day of week 2 plays out – welcome to Day 8 of the LoL Worlds Group Stage 2015!

Preview and Predictions LoL Worlds Day 8

So far though the groups we’ve seen that everyone is bringing out everything they’ve got! After a pretty good 4/6 correct predictions we’ll be hoping to improve on it as we head into the final day of the groups stages to see who will qualify! Can the underdogs come out on top? Find out what my thoughts are in the preview and predictions below!

Week 2 – Day 4 – Match 1: Ahq e-Sports Club - LMS Team Logo AHQ e-Sports Club vs. Invictus Gaming - LPL Team Logo Invictus  Gaming

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 11th, 01:00 PDT/ 04:00 EDT/ 10:00 CEST/ 17:00 KST)

The final day of week 2 starts off with 2 teams that had a previously extremely close game that was decided by a mechanical mistake. If AHQ can bring as much into this game as their last encounter against IG then we could be looking once again at a very close game. Will AHQ come out on top this time?

Ahq e-Sports Club - LMS Team LogoAHQ – Currently tied for the last position in their group, along with 2 other teams, they’re going to need to take every victory possibly as their chance at coming out of the groups stage is very much alive. With hopes that their mechanical mistakes were a thing of the past they could be coming into this 2nd week looking to take a seed at the top of their group.

Invictus Gaming - LPL Team LogoInvictus Gaming – Coming into the group with high hopes at making their way out they’re stuck in a situation where every move counts. If they’re able to play through the game with as much precision as their last encounter against AHQ they’ll be coming into this game with an advantage as they already hold a victory over the LMS 1st seed team.

If AHQ can avoid a mechanical mistake as major as the one from their last game, which resulted in their loss, we’ve seen that they’re able to keep IG in a position where they have a difficult time to take a victory. For AHQ to take the victory they’re going to want to keep a keen eye on their Marksman “AN” as he tends to play aggressively and that has left him in a sour position quite often. Being able to keep their gold deficit at a minimum really helped them in their last game and if they play the same style they should be able to do the same once again, If AHQ is able to take an early lead they’re going to need to suffocate the economy of IG and get some deep wards into their jungle to keep them away from any objectives however for that to occur they’re going to need early map presence which isn’t their strongest point. IG built a very strong team fighting composition against AHQ before but that wasn’t what won them the game, if they’re going to run a similar composition once again they’re going to want to dominate the vision control of large and important areas, doing so would open up opportunities to catch out member of AHQ which could push them into a good position to dictate the pace of the game.

Prediction: AHQ Victory, both teams would have made improvements during their small break however with their previous game going in IGs favour due to a mechanical mistake I’m going to side with AHQ as I think their ability to play from behind will keep them in the game regardless of how the early stages play out and their ability to punish a team around global objectives could give them an overpowering lead.

Week 2 – Day 4 – Match 2: Logo of LCS EU Team Fnatic Fnatic vs. Logo of LCS NA Team Cloud9 Cloud9

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 11th, 02:00 PDT/ 05:00 EDT/ 11:00 CEST/ 18:00 KST)

With Cloud9 going against most peoples assumptions before the World Championship 2015 groups stage started everyone will be keeping an eye on this game, with the current undefeated team, Cloud9, going against the European 1st seed who were undefeated in their summer split we could be looking at an extremely exciting game, will Fnatic finally step up and fix their team cohesion?

Logo of LCS EU Team FnaticFnatic – After an underwhelming world championship performance so far we’ve seen that the undefeated summer split means nothing to the teams at the world championship. With their top laner on a ‘tilt’ they’ve had a difficult time using their comfortable play style but hopefully they’ve found their way and can bring it back with matches as dominating as their summer games.

Logo of LCS NA Team Cloud9Cloud9 – This 7th place team from North America came into the world championship group stage with low expectations and low pressure but after their 1st weeks performance they’re currently the team from their group that everyone wants to beat. Their methodical play style and intriguing strategy has been able to give them early game advantages that they’ve been able to convert into a lead, can they do the same again in week 2?

Fnatic are going to need to go through their drafting phase focusing heavily on the play style that Cloud9 have been using, if they ban out the core of the Cloud9 strategy they could force them onto less comfortable champions and play their own style of game however Cloud9s ability to adapt so far has been overlooked. With heavy analysis on their enemy teams they’re more than likely to have a different strategy to run during this week to keep their opponents on their toes. For C9 to take the victory they’re going to want to stick to the strategy of sieging the global objectives as early as possible and taking control of the map, doing so against Fnatic could net them their second victory against them however if Fnatic come into this week with a more confident and comfortable top laner anything could happen. “In a best of 1 anything could happen” is a quote from the Worlds analysts and it could rain true here, Fnatic still need to make improvements to overcome the currently undefeated team but even so their chance at making it out of the groups stage exists.

FNC will need to control Cloud9s early map pressure and if they do so they should be able to at least balance out the game to keep their chances alive, if Cloud9 are forced into a different strategy the expertise of Fnatic could help them take a victory. Early game vision for FNC against C9 is key and they’re going to be loaded with wave clear, shutting down Cloud9s comfort.

Predictions: Expecting Fnatic to finally being more comfortable and managing their top laner I’ll be predicting a FNC victory. This particular match could play out either way and with Cloud9 in a confident position they could try a new strategy but I think Fnatic have more to show now they’re backed into a corner.

Week 2 – Day 4 – Match 3: Ahq e-Sports Club - LMS Team Logo AHQ e-Sports Club vs. Logo of LCS NA Team Cloud9 Cloud9

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 11th, 03:00 PDT/ 06:00 EDT/ 12:00 CEST/ 19:00 KST)

Cloud9 took an absolutely dominating victory over AHQ in their previous encounter and for that to have changed AHQ are going to need to have made a lot of improvements. Playing from a deficit set AHQ into a position where they couldn’t do anything to bring the game back, if they’re able to avoid that same situation they might just be able to avoid a second loss but we’ll have to wait and see!

Ahq e-Sports Club - LMS Team LogoAHQ – With their need for victory they’ll be coming into this game with a fresh mind-set and ready to take down the reigning group champions. It won’t come easy but if AHQ are able to force C9 into an uncomfortable position they might just be able to capitalise on their mistakes. With a tied bottom place between 3 teams in their group their chances at proceeding to the quarterfinals still exists and they’re going to do whatever it takes to claim it.

Logo of LCS NA Team Cloud9C9 – Cloud9 currently representing their region with phenomenal strength, overcoming every analysis of their summer performances, they came into the group stages and took it by storm. If they can keep their strategic compositions and force their enemies into positions that set them behind they’ll be sure to take the 1st seed of out their group but it could still be contested and they’re going to be playing against every team as well as they did during week 1.

AHQ are going to need to shut down early game rotations from C9, with their play style focusing heavily on picking off their enemies and focusing on objectives they’re going to want to not fall into a gold deficit early and keep it as equal for as long as possible. If they’re able to capitalise on Cloud9s early map pressure by denying it they should be able to take a lead of their own and take control of the pace of the game. With early vision and a few strong early game champions they should be able to hold out however doing so might cripple their late game or team fighting. It’ll be difficult for AHQ considering C9s current track record and ability to adapt, Cloud9 have a unique methodical strategy and if AHQ haven’t picked up on it or fail to shut it down early they’ll be looking at taking yet another victory.

Prediction: Cloud9 victory, with their unique style of pressuring the map early and sieging early turrets for a gold lead, that no team has been able to shut down so far, they’ve managed to pressure even the most difficult of teams and I expect to see them use the same method to take this game.

Week 2 – Day 4 – Match 4: Invictus Gaming - LPL Team Logo Invictus  Gaming vs. Logo of LCS EU Team Fnatic Fnatic

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 11th, 04:00 PDT/ 07:00 EDT/ 13:00 CEST/ 20:00 KST)

Ending their last game in a surrender vote IG are going to want to play for their pride and take a victory against the European 1st seed. Fnatic managed to play the game out safely and only took fights where they managed to come out on top, if IG can force Fnatic into fights that better their own situation they could just come out on top here.

Logo of LCS EU Team FnaticFNC – With their encounter against IG earning them their 1st victory they’re going to be aiming for a second and with how well it was played out, with their dominating lead from an early point, they’re going to be coming into the game with confidence. The confidence will really help the team as their position being tied for last place is detrimental to their hopes for leaving the group but if they manage to take the victory here they’ll be keeping their hopes alive.

Invictus Gaming - LPL Team LogoIG – After their humiliating loss and their pride struck with the chance to proceed to the next stage of the World Championship 2015 on the line IG could come into this game strong and after their time to prepare they could be ready to take down the European 1st seed. If they manage to succeed in their early game pressure and play it out more precisely they could keep Fnatic on the back foot and defeat them through calculated and strategic play.

After their previous showing Fnatic looked extremely strong but that didn’t translate into any other victories of the group for them. FNC are going to need to keep IG at a deficit and keep them behind as the team cohesion from FNC seems much better than that of IG. With early game methodical rotations IG are in a more uncomfortable position than Fnatic and this could set them back during the early game but with comfort around objectives if they manage to force Fnatic into an early game team fight the likes of IG taking the game increase exponentially, as long as they force it onto Fnatic without giving them the chance to prepare for it. Fnatic have much better vision control and this’ll make the earlier stages of the game difficult for IG but if they’ve improved this aspect of their game play they might be able to pick off a few kill from Fnatic and ultimately take the game. Fnatic are going to want to reap the economy of IG and set them back as they did in their previous encounter and if they manage to pull off the same style and strategy as before they’re the favourites to win.

Prediction: Fnatic Victory. Their strongest showing during the groups stages so far was against IG, they managed to outplay them on a macro level with rotations and controlling the entire map and this lead to them taking the game quickly. If they do the same thing once again they’ll most certainly take the game however if IG have made the necessary improvements they’re going to put up one hell of a fight with sporadic team fighting around objectives being likely.

Week 2 – Day 4 – Match 5: Logo of LCS NA Team Cloud9 Cloud9 vs. Invictus Gaming - LPL Team Logo Invictus  Gaming

Head to Head at Worlds: 1 : 0
(Oct. 11th, 05:00 PDT/ 08:00 EDT/ 14:00 CEST/ 21:00 KST)

After a close game, where IG had more kills but C9 took the lead through their macro play, this game could become quite the mimic of their previous encounter. Only a few things need to change for either team to take a decisive victory but has the small break between the groups stages given these teams enough time to prepare for their opponents?

Logo of LCS NA Team Cloud9Cloud9 – After taking an early gold deficit against IG in their previous encounter due to giving up a few early game kills they managed to crawl their way back up into a lead thanks to the shot calling from their jungler “Hai” and through their team cohesion. With the entire team working as 1 they’ve been able to beat all the odds and come out on top regardless of what position they were in.

Invictus Gaming - LPL Team LogoInvictus Gaming – They managed to take an early lead against Cloud9, the currently undefeated team in their group, but it slipped away as they were making macro mistakes that essentially gave away the game. If they can avoid letting Cloud9 take advantages without pressuring them they should be able to take their early lead and convert it into a victory, which they’re really looking for.

IG’s previous performance against Cloud9 showed great potential and if they’ve managed to discuss and improve their decision making, shot calling and gameplay on a macro level they should be able to contest this game. After taking an early lead previously they started to make mistakes with their decision and it really put them into a bad position, if they could avoid this they might be able to take that early lead once against only this time they could use it to propel them into a more decisive position where they can pressure for a victory. Cloud9 are obviously not going to underestimate the team that kept them behind during one of their strongest parts of the game, the early stages, so they’re more than likely going to increase their early game vision and play it a bit more safely, only taking risks when needed. If they use their regular strategy we’ll be looking a lot of map rotations that could set C9 into a very dictating position where the pace of the game is in their favour. Cloud9 are currently at an advantage in this match and if they can deny IG the opportunity to team fight in the late game they’ll be denying them from one of their significant strengths.

Prediction: I don’t think Cloud9 are going to come into week2 as strong as their week 1 performance and as IG kept them in such a close game for so long I’ll be predicting and IG victory here. This is in no way underestimating Cloud9, they’ve played amazingly so far but with their strategy out in the open and with the time gap between the weeks the teams facing against them could have come up with their own unique ways to beat it and I think IG are one of those teams.

Week 2 – Day 4 – Match 6: Logo of LCS EU Team Fnatic Fnatic vs. Ahq e-Sports Club - LMS Team Logo AHQ e-Sports Club

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 11th, 06:00 PDT/ 09:00 EDT/ 15:00 CEST/ 22:00 KST)

Fnatic managed to take an early lead in the previous encounter against AHQ however with multiple mistakes being made by their top laner “Huni” AHQ managed to crawl their way back and take the game by punishing the smallest mistakes from Fnatic. Can Fnatic fix their team’s confidence issues and bring themselves back through the group?

Logo of LCS EU Team FnaticFnatic – The previous encounter had Fnatic victory written all over it but their greed and miss-positioning allowed AHQ to quickly scrape their way back and push for victory, all from that 1 mistake. Fnatic made multiple small mistakes throughout the game however none of them set them into a deficit, they’re going to need to come into this game with the same strategy only with more control on their over aggression and greed.

Ahq e-Sports Club - LMS Team LogoAHQ – After their previous victory against Fnatic they’re coming into this game with a slight advantage however Fnatic had control of that game from an early stage and AHQ only managed to take the victory due to Fnatics mistake. It’ll be a difficult game but If AHQ can control the earlier stages of the game and focus on the mistakes of Fnatic once again they could punish them, like their previous game, and take the victory.

AHQ had much more trouble in this game than people would assume, Fnatic were in control of the game for nearly its entirety, a small mistake from them essentially threw the game and gave AHQ exactly what they needed. If AHQ can create a lead of their own they’ve shown that they will relentlessly punish Fnatic and control the pace of the game to earn their victory however this game is Fnatics to lose. Fnatic will need to keep their players in check and make sure that no one is making these minor mechanical and macro mistakes, if they’ve worked on their cohesion they could come into this game confidently and pressure AHQ like their first encounter only with less mistakes they won’t throw the game. AHQ are going to need to improve their reactions to how Fnatic play out the laning and if they can keep FNC in check they’ll certainly contest the victory. Fnatic should avoid unnecessary fighting, this has been their downfall so far and their macro play is much better than that of AHQ’s, if they focus more on the long term effect of their actions they should be able to make less mistakes and pressure their early lead into a victory.

Prediction: Fnatic victory, I’ll be hoping that they’ve finally fixed their internal issues and that they make fewer mistakes during this game. Their overpowering play style kept IG in check for so long during their 1st encounter and if they can do the same thing this time around, avoiding throwing, they should be able to take the win.
