Preview and Predictions LoL Worlds Day 7

With Week 2 Day 2 of the groups stages coming to a close I can say that I’m definitly happy with my perfect 6/0 predictions of yesterdays performances. We’ll be taking a look at Group D on Week 2 Day 3 now to see which team is strong enough to proceed to the Quarterfinals of the World Championship!

Week 2 – Day 3 – Match 1: Logo of LCS NA Team TSM Team SoloMid vs. Origen - EU LCS Team Logo Origen

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 10th, 03:00 PDT/ 06:00 EDT/ 12:00 CEST/ 19:00 KST)

After going 3:0 in their first week at the World Championship 2015 groups stage OG are looking to secure at least 1 more victory to keep their chances at the quarterfinals alive and this could very well be it. Their last performance against TSM ended in a decisive victory and their performances against other teams have been strategically on point meaning TSM could be charging into trouble, can they come out on top?

Logo of LCS NA Team TSMTSM – Their performances so far have been lacklustre however they did manage to take a win in the 1st week of the groups stage, this kept their hopes alive as they might just be able to take a few victories in this week if they’ve prepared for it. If they manage to do so then they’ll throw the groups positioning into chaos as tie breakers would be likely. Against Origen they’re going to want to play carefully right from champion select.

Origen - LCS Team LogoOrigen – With the ability to come up with a different strategy for each team they’ve faced so far they could come into the second week with a less dominating performance but only if they’ve shown all of their little secrets. If they come into this 2nd week as prepared as their previous week we could well be looking at a team going 6:0

For TSM to contest the victory they’re going to want to play around any strategy OG pulls out. If TSM take a composition that relies heavily on 1 champion they’re going to have a difficult time, once again, but if they build a strategy and composition specifically for going against OG they should be able to avoid giving away an early game advantages and forcing team fights, which is one of their strengths. Origen are going to want to stick to what they know, double AP comps with 2 teleports across their team gives them an advantage against any other team in the world championship because they’re been running that strategy since season 2. With Origen being at an advantage coming into the game, having a victory over TSM already, they can afford to play it slow and safely using their heavy experience in methodical play and rotations to guide them to a victory. If TSM want to take the win they’re going to have to force OG into situations before they’ve hit large power spikes or with the tempo in their favour.

Prediction: I’ll be expecting Origen to play this game out methodically with rotations being often and lane swaps being likely. If they play it out with confidence then we could be looking at a game similar to the 1st week’s game. If TSM gain an early advantage Origen could be in trouble however I believe their expertise will allow them to safely play from behind. I’ll be predicting an Origen victory.

Week 2 – Day 3 – Match 2: KT Rolster - LCK Team Logo KT Rolster vs. LGD Gaming - LPL Team Logo LGD Gaming

Head to Head at Worlds: 1 : 0
(Oct. 10th, 04:00 PDT/ 07:00 EDT/ 13:00 CEST/ 20:00 KST)

With LGD being at the bottom of the group in a surprising 0:3 week 1 turnout LGD really need to step up and take control of some of these games heading into week 2. With one of their players having fallen ill just before week 1 had started LGD were having some trouble mechanically and found it to be difficult to apply pressure, with their ill player making a speedy recovery can them make a week 2 come-back?

LGD Gaming - LPL TeamLGD – With a player falling Ill and not announcing it until the 1st week was over LGD were at a significant disadvantage, even more than we had thought. With their player making a quick recover they might just be able to make some group and get closer to their quarterfinals chance as long as they have a perfect week.

KT Rolster - LCK Team LogoKT Rolster – Being the 2nd seed in their group currently, KT are looking to take a chance to contest the 1st seed in the group against Origen who currently hold a 3:0 score. For KT to take the group they’ll need to storm through the matches with decisive victories and show their true potential.

For LGD to take the victory here they’re really going to need to step up their macro and mico management, if they are able to obtain a lead of any sort in the early game, whether that be a dragon or a gold lead, they could propel their strongest players into a dictating position where they control the pace of the game. KT is going to want to keep their style of play up and work a lead into the early game, which is pretty usual for them. If they can keep the marksman of LGD on the back foot it’s likely they’ll keep LGD at a disadvantage for the rest of the game. With strong team fighting and experience in deep vision and lane control KT should work to slowly dismantle the bottom lane of LGD and press a victory using the tempo or a bottom lane advantage. Being able to siege with more success they could work their way to victory

Prediction: I’ll be predicting a KT Rolster victory, with them currently holding a significant advantage over LGD there’s a lot less pressure on them. If they play out this game as they’ve played out their others we won’t be looking at a fast paced game but once the fighting starts it could be explosive.

Week 2 – Day 3 – Match 3: Logo of LCS NA Team TSM Team SoloMid vs. KT Rolster - LCK Team Logo KT Rolster

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 10th, 05:00 PDT/ 08:00 EDT/ 14:00 CEST/ 21:00 KST)

With TSM being in a difficult situation as the week 2 of the World Championship 2015 group stages starts we’ll get to see how well they can adapt to their situation. After showing some strategic diversity they’ll be looking to make a few plays against KT to set them behind, can Team Solo Mid come into week 2 strong and take an early victory against KT?

Logo of LCS NA Team TSMTSM – Regardless of their difficult situation TSM have been a team that can consistently adapt, this will come with difficult however because they team focuses heavily on their middle lane but if we’ve learned anything from the 1st day of week 2 with the Flash Wolves matches it’s that mid-laners can still dominate and carry in this meta. If TSM get an advantage and funnel gold onto a strong mid-lane champion they could generate tempo to dictate the game.

KT Rolster - LCK Team LogoKT – With their current advantage they stand a good chance to take this game just playing their usual style, if they’re on comfort picks where they can play confidently we could see some early game movement from KT. With the likes of dragon pressure being high we could see some abrupt and game changing fights and if they go in KTs favour we could be looking at a quick game.

If the game is going to sway in TSMs favour they’re going to want to get “Bjergsen” ahead, their mid-laner is their best chance at solo-carrying and with the team being well versed in playing with a dominating mid laner this’ll be their best chance, with their marksman “WildTurtle” picking a sieging marksman such as Jinx or Tristana the game could quite easily sway in their favour if they get an early tempo advantage. They’ll need to keep an eye on KTs movements so vision in the early stages of the game is important if they want to propel ahead. KT will want to play this game out on a macro level where their decision making and rotations give them a lead, once a lead has been earned they’ll be able to methodically string together objectives and starve the economy of TSM. If they manage to disrupt the TSM mid lane and stop and advantage going in Bjergsens pocket then they should be able to minimise the threats from TSM and play around them.

Prediction: I’ll be predicting a KT Rolster victory, in their previous encounter KT manage to play around TSM and take important kills throughout the game that allowed them to dictate the pace of the game. Giving as much of the gold as possible onto their carries KT have been able to dictate their games from an early stage and I expect to see the same thing.

Week 2 – Day 3 – Match 4: Origen - EU LCS Team Logo Origen vs. LGD Gaming - LPL Team Logo LGD Gaming

Head to Head at Worlds: 1 : 0
(Oct. 10th, 06:00 PDT/ 09:00 EDT/ 15:00 CEST/ 22:00 KST)

Origen have shown such a convincing amount of power right from champions select, with LGD being in a situation that doesn’t allow them to take any losses it’ll be difficult for them but all it takes is 1 lane and 1 play for them to take the game. If LGD can get their marksman into a good position, gold wise, they might just be able to pressure the currently undefeated team, Origen, into a position where they can’t take fights.

Origen - LCS Team LogoOG – Currently undefeated, Origen is coming into this day with a strong mind-set. A few wins on this day and they can walk away knowing they’ve made it into them semi-finals which is much better than their expectations when they formed. Being able to take a victory over LGD will solidify their lead so they’ll be coming into this game well prepared.

LGD Gaming - LPL TeamLGD – On the back foot and in a difficult situation LGD, with the health of their ill playing having improved, are going to need to bring everything they’ve got to this game. If they can take a victory off of the team at the top of their groups standing they could strike fear into all of their enemies. Hopefully they’ll be coming into week 2 much stronger than they’d previously shown and can become a thriving force with better team cohesion.

If LGD are looking to take this victory they’re going to want to have prepared their drafting phase, if they can come out of champion select with some strong and comfortable picks they could set themselves up to take an early lead. Origen are more than likely to go through this drafting phase how they’ve handled everything else so far, which could surprise us all. LGD’s preparation for this match could be detrimental to their performance if they’ve not prepared enough, Origen were thought as a weaker team at the start of the groups stage but are currently showing the best ability to adapt to a game and their enemies. Origen are going to want to build a composition around either team fighting, being able to quickly dispose of the enemy marksman, LGD are going to want to try and get their hands on some safer picks, Lulu and Orianna for example with the likes of Azir showing up, doing so will allow them to keep their marksman safe throughout the game and give them an advantage around objectives.

Prediction: I’ll be looking at Origen to take the game and predicting their victory. With their strategic drafting and ability to capitalise on any form of tempo they’ll out position and rotate LGD into their graves. Picking off their enemies and using the double teleport composition is a forte of Origen and will play out extremely well for them. LGD would need to take a really good lead early on in the game and get as much of that advantage onto their marksman as possible if they want to contest the victory.

Week 2 – Day 3 – Match 5: Origen - EU LCS Team Logo Origen vs. KT Rolster - LCK Team Logo KT Rolster

Head to Head at Worlds: 1 : 0
(Oct. 10th, 07:00 PDT/ 10:00 EDT/ 16:00 CEST/ 23:00 KST)

This, in my opinion, will be the match of the day. If both KT and Origen win their games up to this point we could be looking at KT contesting the 1st seed of the group. If they want to be a top contender they’ll want to bring everything to this match that they can muster to bring down the currently undefeated OG.

Origen - LCS Team LogoOG – With the strongest possible standings, being 3:0 by the end of week 1, Origen want to use their strategic style of play with phenomenal champion drafting to try and push KT into a champion disadvantage. If they manage to get a few comfort picks their ability to play out a game using rotations and tempo regardless of a gold deficit could net them yet another victory.

KT Rolster - LCK Team LogoKT – With this game being of significant importance to KT they’re going to need to take a victory here to keep their 1st seed chance alive, as long as they’ve won their previous games of the day. If they manage to pick fights throughout the game, as they did throughout their first encounter, they could take a lead as long as they keep track of objectives and control Origens rotations.

During their previous encounter KT manage to pick off twice as many kills as Origen, with a 25min 10:5 kill score in their advantage, however because of Origen taking advantages through split pushing they were never able to push a gold lead. If they can keep up their calculated aggression and stop Origen rotating throughout the map to take objectives they could keep Origen under wraps and force them into a gold deficit. If KT does take an early lead we can be sure they’ll pressure it with explosive team fighting and phenomenal objective control. Origen is very likely to stick to their double teleport and split pushing style where they apply pressure across the map and leave their enemies to make mistakes. If they can force KT to make macro decision making mistakes they’ll punish them and whittle down their base. Origen have shown a phenomenal ability to prepare for their games and punish every team they’ve faced in a different way, with KT coming into this game after taking a loss against them before they’re going to want to force Origen into a position where split pushing is no longer. They’re going to need an answer for the top and mid laners of Origen and this could be difficult to accomplish, focusing heavily on the laners of Origen opens up the opportunity for their support “Mithy” to make optimal plays in team fights which could still swap the game in Origens favour.

Prediction: I’ll be predicting an Origen victory, after showing their ability to adapt to each individual team and punish them for attempting to take advantages they’ve shown that they are a strategic step ahead of everyone they’ve faced so far and this includes KT. A double teleport and split pushing composition is likely from Origen and with their years of experience executing this it’ll be difficult for KT to punish them.

Week 2 – Day 3 – Match 6: LGD Gaming - LPL Team Logo LGD Gaming vs. Logo of LCS NA Team TSM Team SoloMid

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 10th, 08:00 PDT/ 11:00 EDT/ 17:00 CEST/ 24:00 KST)

With TSM needing to take every possible victory, as representatives of North America, they’re going to need to take a second victory off of LGD to try and improve their current standings, which could possibly end in a tie breaker for them depending on how the matches of the day plays out. LGD being in a difficult position and by this match it could already be impossible for them to qualify for the quarterfinals at the World Championship 2015 but that doesn’t mean they’ll give up their pride. As a very proud team they’ll be coming into this game strong to show the world what they’re capable of.

LGD Gaming - LPL TeamLGD – Their difficult situation could have exploded by this point in the day but as a team with a lot of pride LGD will want to show their true strength. With a speedy recovery happening on their team their ability to take games and show up during the 2nd week of the groups stage is much more likely and I expect them to show much stronger performances than in their 1st week.

Logo of LCS NA Team TSMTSM – Although their rough start came with a cushioned blow as they took a victory off of LGD in the 1st week this match could end as a tie breaker depending on how the game has played out. It might not be a tie breaker for 1st place but it’s a tie break TSM will want to win. With a huge and hefty fan base that they want to keep happy they’re going to want to focus on getting as much gold on their mid-laner as possible so the carrying can happen.

With TSM and LGD having their strengths on completely different lanes I’d like to see TSM pick a strong and oppressive mid-lane champions, such as Leblanc, which they can get an early lead on to pressure the entire map. If TSM are able to play a similar style to how the Flash Wolves played then we could look at them using an assassin to keep the likes of LGDs marksman, their most likely role to carry, in a position where even a minor miss-step could mean his life. LGD are likely to pick comfortable champions such as Azir and Kogmaw or even Lulu if it’s not banned as their team compositions often rely heavily on making “Imp” as strong as possible. If they can force TSM into a position where diving into “Imp” would mean them losing the fight then TSM would be stuck in a losing situation which would obviously make the game. TSM are going to need to take an early lead and pressure the bottom lane of LGD, doing so would give them an objective advantage with fighting around dragon pit being extremely likely.

Prediction: I expect this team to draw out longer than their previous 34min game, possibly pushing it to 40+mins but I’ll be predicting a LGD victory. It may seem surprising as their current standing is 0:3 but I think with their ill player having recovered they’ll come into a game against TSM much more confidently which will open up their options as long as they don’t underestimate their enemies throughout the game.
