Preview and Predictions LoL Worlds Day 6

With the first day of week 2 coming to a close what have we learned? It’s certianly more difficult to predict the outcomes but still holding a positive prediciton rate keeps me content. Let’s see if we can make improvements as the fan favourite teams work their way through group C on day 2 week2 of the groups stages!

Week 2 – Day 2 – Match 1: SK Telecom T1 - LCK Team Logo SK Telecom vs. Edward Gaming - LPL Team Logo Edward Gaming

Head to Head at Worlds: 1 : 0
(Oct. 9th, 05:00 PDT/ 08:00 EDT/ 14:00 CEST/ 21:00 KST)

Being outperformed in their previous match EDG are sure to want to take a revenge victory here, having previously taken down SKTT1 in a best of 5 series it’s possible too! Regardless of fan favouritism EDG, with a few performance adjustments, could take this next game as their own. If they’ve taken the time to prepare for “Marin’s” top lane dominance and are able to keep him at a lower gold threshold they stand a much better chance to claim the game. Will EDG be able to overcome the Korean powerhouse team SKTT1?

SK Telecom T1 - LCK Team LogoSKTT1 – After taking a perfect 3:0 week in their group for the first week SKTT1 will be looking to keep up their performance. With the likes of them performing even better in week 2, as they’ll want to avoid a tie breaker, we could be looking at just how strong this team can be. With their top and mid laner having the ability to over-perform SKTT1 might be too difficult to shut down.

Edward Gaming - LPL Team LogoEDG – With their near perfect 1st week they’ll be looking to even out their current standings against SKTT1 and might bring out something special to surprise us all, if they’ve prepared we’ll be expecting them to put up one hell of a fight to contest the match, with the 1st position in the group being up for grabs here.

If EDG want to contest the victory in this match they’re going to want to focus more on the top lane than in their previous game. SKTT1’s top laner “Marin” has shown that even if EDG focus heavily on shutting down “Faker” he can carry the game after becoming an unstoppable force. EDG are going to want to punish SKTT1s top laner in any way possible, denying gold and experience in the early game would be their best bet so it’s likely they’ll opt for a lane swap if their bottom lane is feeling up to it. SKTT1 will need to consistently apply pressure around the map to try and keep the EDG’s jungler away from the likes of their top and mid laners. With EDG wanting to focus more time on the top lane it’s possible for SKTT1 to take their jungler and apply pressure to the bottom and middle lanes which will create enough pressure to bring EDG down for dragon. Expect some high level team fighting to happen around dragon pit; both teams will focus heavily on their vision of the enemy teams with possible deep warding in the opposing teams jungles.

With more on the line in this match, as it’s the match EDG will need to win to balance out the group for them, both teams could play a more methodical play style where they focus on capitalising on the enemies mistakes, if this were to occur it’s more likely for SKTT1 to crack any of the weaknesses that EDG has, as they’re more versed in this play style.

Prediction: SKTT1 Victory, although EDG stand a good chance at taking this game I think SKTT1 have prepared more for going against EDG than any other team at the world championship. Doing so with their extensive amount of resources would have given them the knowledge needed to know how to punish EDG in more ways than any other team knows how to punish SKTT1.

Week 2 – Day 2 – Match 2: Bangkok Titans- LoL team Logo Bangkok Titans vs. H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team Logo H2K

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 9th, 06:00 PDT/ 09:00 EDT/ 15:00 CEST/ 22:00 KST)

Bangkok Titans have had an extremely underwhelming week thus far in the World Championship 2015 groups stage however this 2nd week could be the time for them to show up and perform. If they manage to take any victories in this week, which could be surprising, they’ll really throw off the other team’s chances at ending in the top of the group and could even possibly open up gaps for lower placed teams to qualify for the next round.

bangkok titans - IWC TurkeyBKT – With less on the line and their chances at qualifying for the next round of the World Championship dwindling they could pull out some really surprising strategies to try and ‘cheese’ a victory in the 2nd week of the groups stage. Looking to take at least 1 victory in this week they’re going into this group stage head strong and confident. Their previous underperformances came as no surprise to most people who follow LoLEsports, they’re stuck in a difficult group but any victory at this point could mean serious business.

H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team LogoH2K – With their chances to qualify for the next stage on the lines here H2K are going to want to put on a performance that makes every other team in their group worry. If they’re able to take the victory then they could still contest a ticket to the next stage of the World Championship 2015, which would be a great achievement for them.

BKT are going to need to step up here, currently being at the bottom of their group with a 0:3 score their chance at qualifying for the next stage is nearly impossible but there’s still a chance! Against H2K they’re going to want to improve their vision, so far teams have been punishing a lot of miss-plays from BKT and that snowballs a lead in every game. This’ll be their best bet at taking a victory, after they’ve gained vision control they’re going to want to bait H2K into a mistake so they can take a lead of their own. If they manage to play out the laning phase with a minimal deficit or even coming out even they’ll stand a much greater chance, their biggest area to be improve would be their team cohesion and communication. Being able to punish H2K throughout the game with strategic rotations and vision control is possible however H2K can play quite safely at times and even manage to apply pressure without going to aggressive. H2K are coming into this game with an experience advantage and a well-rounded strategy which will make BKT taking the victory even more difficult.

Prediction: H2K victory, if they manage to play out the game like their previous one then it shouldn’t be too difficult. BKT being a less experienced Wild Card team from a region that’s not adapted to the currently played meta will make things difficult for them but expect them to put up a fight.

Week 2 – Day 2 – Match 3: Bangkok Titans- LoL team Logo Bangkok Titans vs. Edward Gaming - LPL Team Logo Edward Gaming

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 9th, 07:00 PDT/ 10:00 EDT/ 16:00 CEST/ 23:00 KST)

Possibly one of the most difficult situations BKT will be in, EDG are going to be pulling out all the stops as this match will set them up to take a top position in their group. Although BKT will have a hard time and EDG are the more experienced team this game could play out in a number of ways, can BKT hold and upset the groups stage?

Edward Gaming - LPL Team LogoEDG – Having shown amazing performances already their only loss was to the currently undefeated SKTT1, every game they’ve played other than their loss was a very decisive victory where EDG managed to punish their opposing teams and create a lead that was impossible to deal with, I’ll be expecting them to try just as hard to show the same sort of performance unlike SKTT1 who looked like they were just having a bit of fun.

bangkok titans - IWC TurkeyBKT – With a very difficult road ahead of them BKT are looking to take at least 1 victory in their second week at the groups stage and it could very well be EDG, creating a huge upset and throwing off the current balance of the groups stage. They’re going to need to come into this game pulling out every single idea they have to create a strategy that can generate an early lead and propel them to a state where they can take the game.

BKT are going to need to improve vastly to take the games vs EDG, they’re at quite a disadvantage in this match as EDG are significantly more experienced and have multiple ways to adapt to anything that BKT throws at them. BKT are going to need to somehow create an early gold advantage with strong item power-spikes and then pull EDG into uncomfortable situations where sporadic team fighting would sway the game in BKT’s favour. EDG are going to want to play in their own style, something they’re comfortable on and confident with, if they manage to stick to what they know then it’s highly likely that they’ll generate a lead of their own and with their objective control they’ll do more than just own the gold lead. After taking the gold lead and pushing BKT into a situation where they feel like they’re drastically behind, EDG are going to want to pressure every single available objective, without risking a baron steal obviously. This’ll push them into a significant lead where they’ll be able to dive and ace BKT and take the victory.

Prediction: EDG Victory, as they’re significantly more experience and have shown through their performances that they’re playing at a much higher level it’s unlikely that they’ll lose to BKT however upsets have happened in the past and it could happen once again.

Week 2 – Day 2 – Match 4: H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team Logo H2K vs. SK Telecom T1 - LCK Team Logo SK Telecom

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 9th, 08:00 PDT/ 11:00 EDT/ 17:00 CEST/ 24:00 KST)

With SKTT1 in the lead in their group they’re going to want to keep up their performances however with H2K having a pretty good showing in their previous match and holding out for a length amount of time can the padawan team, H2K, take a victory and jeopardise the current group standings?

H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team LogoH2K – Showing that they’ve adapted and used a strategy very similar to SKTT1 they’re going to want to shake things up a little to catch SKTT1 by surprise. If they manage to throw off their enemies they could take an early lead, which they’ve been able to do previously, and take a victory here. Being in the lower portion of their group they don’t want to lose confidence, their chances at escaping the group stage are still alive.

SK Telecom T1 - LCK Team LogoSKTT1 – Currently defeated and proving why they’re called the powerhouse team, SKTT1 are a fan favourite for taking home the World Championship 2015 summoner’s cup and so far from their performances they’re showing that it could be a reality. With very little faults in their play and having such an overpowering top and mid lane has proven to be difficult to overcome for every team they’ve faced so far.

H2K are going to want to throw off the SKTT1 early game and apply as much pressure as they can before SKTT1 take the game into their own hands. If H2K can create some tempo they could string a few objectives together and set SKTT1 on the track to defeat. SKTT1 are going to want to stick to their methodical and highly strategic play style that gets their top and mid laner rolling, if either of those 2 roles on SKTT1 becomes a problem it’ll be difficult for H2K to hold out the game. Tempo will play a very key part in this match; both teams play a similar style with very little difference between their strategies however SKTT1 have been executing it better. With hopes that we see a Zed in this game I’d like to see H2K hold their own and take an early lead, opening up the opportunity to punish SKTT1s confidence and giving them a team fighting advantage.

Although to most fans it seems unlikely that SKTT1 will lose at this point it is very possible. Teams have shown so far that once a few lanes from SKTT1 are behind it becomes a much more difficult match for them to take and often their over confidence and aggression with a lead can be a wrong move that could be their demise. If H2K can get SKTT1 into a gold deficit and punish them for taking team fights they could quite handily take the base of the Korean powerhouse team.

Prediction: I’ll be siding with the fan favourite and be predicting an SKTT1 victory over H2K, they’ve had extremely strong performances, even when they were messing around, and have been able to take victories against every team in their group. Proving to be a difficult match up H2K could hold their own for the first 25mins of the game but I expect it to go in SKTT1s favour.

Week 2 – Day 2 – Match 5: Edward Gaming - LPL Team Logo Edward Gaming vs. H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team Logo H2K

Head to Head at Worlds: 1 : 0
(Oct. 9th, 09:00 PDT/ 12:00 EDT/ 18:00 CEST/ 01:00 KST)

After their previous game EDG are definitely at an advantage whilst they hold a victory over H2K but I wouldn’t put it past H2K to be well prepared for this match and ready for an upset victory. If H2K manage to perform as well as they did during their first game then it’s likely that the early game will be heavily dictated by map movement and rotations with lane swapping giving advantages to whoever executes them better. H2K will be coming into the game strong and ready with weight on their top laner to help dictate the pace of the game.

H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team LogoH2K – Their previous performance against EDG was balanced for quite a long period of time until EDG started to capitalise on H2Ks mistakes, if they don’t over aggress then it’s easily possible for them to take an advantage and as we’ve seen the H2K top laner hold his own and even take down the EDG top laner it’ll certainly be close as far as that particular lane is concerned. With good chances, if they’ve adapted accordingly to how their previous game played out then H2K stand a good chance to push for a victory here.

Edward Gaming - LPL Team LogoEDG – Slowly managing to build a gold lead and eventually overpowering H2K is how they played out their last game, punishing H2K for any over aggression and playing a methodical rotation game allowed them to take more objectives and favourable fights that propelled them into a lead. If they play this next game as well as they played their last we’re likely to see them on some power picks and their mid laner raking in the kills.

During this game H2K are going to want to propel their laners into an early lead. With EDG having one of their strongest players being in the middle lane it’ll be difficult for the mid laner of H2K, “Ryu”, to not only hold out but to take a lead, unless he’s on a comfortable pick that has the mechanical kit ready to outplay the EDG team. During the later stages of the game H2K really need to improve their vision and get as many wards down throughout their roaming as they can. If they can avoid getting picked off, unlike their last game, they’ll stand a much better chance at taking their lead and could even punish EDG for any over confidence. EDG should stick to what they know, getting their middle and top laners on comfortable power picks will allow them to play safely until they take some favourable fights, and once they gain a lead they’re able to punish their opposing team extremely well with it. They play with vision extremely well and their use of denying vision will open up opportunities to pick off their enemies and convert that into a victory.

Prediction: With EDG showing a precise way to dictate the pace of the game even with a laner being behind I’ll be predicting an EDG victory over H2K, they’ve shown that they’re able to punish the enemy teams extremely well once they have any sort of lead and they know how to pick favourable fights. Their use of vision is phenomenal and statistically they very rarely lose a game once they’re ahead.

Week 2 – Day 2 – Match 6: SK Telecom T1 - LCK Team Logo SK Telecom vs. Bangkok Titans- LoL team Logo Bangkok Titans

Head to Head at Worlds: 1 : 0
(Oct. 9th, 10:00 PDT/ 13:00 EDT/ 19:00 CEST/ 02:00 KST)

With BKT on the back foot and going against the top team in their group they’re at a significant disadvantage here but we’ve seen upsets happen before that were as phenomenal as this game could be. SKTT1, if they play this game much more seriously, are looking to take a dominating victory but can BKT come out to surprise them?

bangkok titans - IWC TurkeyBKT – Not being afraid to try some new things we could be looking at BKT pulling out a ‘cheese’ strategy against SKTT1 that could come and surprise us all. After their first game they really didn’t have a good showing however they managed to punish every single miss-play and over aggressive move from SKTT1 and if they take an early lead we could watch them take this game by storm.

SK Telecom T1 - LCK Team LogoSKTT1 – After their phenomenal performances so far it’s likely that they’ll bring out a fresh pick for this match; their previous match had a Viking stampede as they lock in Olaf for the middle lane. Being able to out-play BKT on both a micro and macro level has given them a huge advantage previously and will more than likely see them to having aggressive dives and a convincing gold lead.

BKT are going to need to bring out something special for this game and if SKTT1 play into it then BKT could come out to surprise us all. For this match SKTT1 are going to want to play with a bit more care than their last encounter, avoiding too much over aggression will help them generate a significant gold lead and their ability to string objectives together and rotate through the lanes will assist them greatly. BKT are going to want to keep their vision up throughout the entirety of the game and if they manage to pick up a few kills from stranded SKTT1 player then they should have enough gold to hold out. BKT should look to build a team composition that can clear minion waves quickly and have a lot of crowd control, something along the lines of Gnar and Orianna for the middle and top laners will help them stall out the game to a point where they might just be able to take a few team fights off of the Korean powerhouse team and surprise us all with possibly their first victory of the group stages.

Prediction: With far more experience and an advantage on both a micro and macro level I’ll be predicting and SKTT1 victory. BKT might be able to stall out the game but I think SKTT1, even when at a small gold deficit, will play out the team fighting better and have more objective control. With their ability to dictate the pace of a game from an early stage I’ll be expecting them to take a fairly quick victory, as long as they don’t play around with their enemies again.
