LoL Worlds 2015: Week #2 – Day 1 | Final Day Group A

LoL Worlds Day 5 (or Day 1 of Group Stage #2) is the final day of World Championship Group A. The complete second round (6 matches in total + possible tie-breakers) will be played on Thursday, October 8th. As you might know the top two teams after the end of this day advance to the Knockout Stage of the tournament while the other two teams are eliminated – so a lot is on the line for the 4 teams. After the first week of competition CLG and the Koo Tigers are tied for first place with a 2-1 record but paiN Gaming and the Flash Wolves are only one point behind, and there are still 3 matches left to play for every team – everything is possible in the Group of Life. Welcome to Week 2 Day 1 – the final Day of LoL Worlds Group A!

Preview and Predictions LoL Worlds Day 5

With the first week of LoL Worlds coming to a close and the 2nd week starting we’ll get to see how the groups play out, currently holding a 17:7 prediction rate i hope to stand a chance at predicting each groups games by using their previous performances to determine who will become victorious

Week 2 – Day 1 – Match 1: Logo of LCS NA Team CLG Counter Logic Gaming vs. KOO Tigers - LCK Team Logo Koo Tigers

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 8th, 05:00 PDT/ 08:00 EDT/ 14:00 CEST/ 21:00 KST)

With CLG and KOO Tigers both holding a top position in their group this match could throw off the balance and open up the position for PaiN or Flash Wolves to take a ticket out of the groups stage. CLG have shown a few sloppy performances which hopefully they’ll fix between week 1 and week 2. KOO has shown already that their ability to adapt to the meta game is great and if they perform as well as they have done so far we could be looking at an extremely methodical game.

Koo Tigers - LCK Team LogoKOO – The KOO Tigers are a top contender for this group coming out of week 1, if they manage to perform as well as they have then we’ll be looking at them taking a ticket out of the groups stage but if the Flash Wolves manage to take a victory against them along with CLG then their chances drop significantly and could drop them into a tie breaker.

Logo of LCS NA Team CLGCLG – With a very similar situation to KOO, CLG need to be able to perform better than what they’ve already shown us, if they make small improvements and manage the map in a more methodical way, similar to KOO, then they could secure easier victories and secure their place out of the groups stage. If they make such improvements then they drop their chances at losing to the lower placed teams in the group.

With KOO already having a victory over CLG they need to take this victory to help secure their position at the top of the board, if they make a few small adjustments to how they’re playing the early game and deny KOO any chance to snowball a lead then I believe their ability to apply tempo and convert it to objectives could help them take the victory but with a few days to prepare the KOO Tigers could come into the game with a strategy to counter this. KOO have already shown that they can beat Counter Logic Gaming and if they apply the same style and strategy to this next game, then statistically, they should win however they’re going to need to adjust a few things to secure it. If they expect CLG to not make any changes to how they played the previous game then they’re really underestimating them but if adjustments are made then KOO will not only contest the game but will be the favourites coming into it. KOO will need to keep the top lane under wraps, expect to see lane swaps and deep vision early, pressure will be a key point to this game with fights mainly starting around the dragon pit.

Prediction: With a lot on the line I expect CLG to have made more preparations and adjustments for this match; I’ll be predicting a CLG victory. If they manage to not throw at any point then KOO will slowly be worked down and eventually lose but with KOO having a methodical play style I expect them to play the game out slowly, which they’re comfortable with, and CLG will need to break this.

Week 2 – Day 1 – Match 2: Flash Wolves - LMS Team Logo Flash Wolves vs. paiN GAMING - LoL Team Logo paiN Gaming

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 8th, 06:00 PDT/ 09:00 EDT/ 15:00 CEST/ 22:00 KST)

PaiN Gaming have shown that they mean business, being the Wild Card team to break a tradition on the worlds stage, and they’re looking to take a second victory over FW. If they come into the game as strongly as they did previously things will go in their favour, their aggressive style of play will force a lot of fights which the Flash Wolves might not be comfortable with. I expect the Flash Wolves to have made preparations for this game so we might see them pick more comfortable champions and play the game in a style they’re more comfortable with to avoid any of the Wild Card traps.

Flash Wolves - LMS team logoFlash Wolves – After taking an upset loss against PaiN previously they’re going to need to take a victory here to keep their chances at leaving the groups stage alive. Not only are they going to need to come into this game showing their best performance they’re going to need to make some changes necessary to take down PaiN. If they adapt to how PaiN previously played and adopt a more constructed play style where they control vision and tempo then they could see themselves to victory.

pain gaming - IWC BrazilPaiN – After showcasing why they’re at the World Championship 2015 against the Flash Wolves in their last encounter, PaiN want to take another victory to show just how strong the Brazilian region is. It certainly won’t come easy as their over aggressive play style leaves them open to abuse and capitalization on their mistakes. They often over-step their bounds and lose out because of it. If they manage to be less greedy and accept that they can’t always take more then they’ll come into the match with an advantage, having already take a victory over the Flash Wolves.

For the Flash Wolves to take a victory over PaiN they’re going to have to avoid unnecessary fighting, this is where PaiN thrives and earns a lot of their gold along with picking off members of their opposing team. FW are going to need to play their laning a bit more slowly and adapt to how PaiN handle their lanes. If either team here opts for a lane swap I expect it to be heavily punished in this match. For PaiN to hold their victorious title of the Flash Wolves they’re going to need to force them into a position where they need to take fights that they may not be prepared for, if PaiN play champions that have earlier item power spikes or time their power spikes around their combat then they could quite easily gain a gold lead and aggressively for that lead into a victory.

Prediction: With a lot on the line I suspect the Flash Wolves have made preparations for this game and have analysed PaiN’s previous matches, because of this they’ll be coming into the game with knowledge of how to counter them and play their own style against them. I’ll be predicting a Flash Wolves victory over PaiN even though I’d like to see the opposite occur. With the Flash Wolves having more tools at their disposal I expect them to play out the early game and avoid any unnecessary fighting so they can push for a lead when the entire team is ready, whereas in their previous encounter they weren’t.

Week 2 – Day 1 – Match 3: KOO Tigers - LCK Team Logo Koo Tigers vs. paiN GAMING - LoL Team Logo paiN Gaming

Head to Head at Worlds: 1 : 0
(Oct. 8th, 07:00 PDT/ 10:00 EDT/ 16:00 CEST/ 23:00 KST)

With the KOO Tigers showing how strong they really can be when they’re able to perform we can only expect them to bring that same performance once again and with PaiN being on the back foot whilst already holding a defeat from KOO this match could be their gateway to a position out of the groups stage if they’re able to adapt to KOO’s previous performances to defeat them.

Koo Tigers - LCK Team LogoKOO – Being at the top of their current group, KOO definitely hold an advantage against PaiN Gaming whilst also holding a victory over them. If KOO play their typical methodical style and avoid any early game scraps where they could give up an advantage they should be able to guarantee a victory as long as PaiN haven’t adapted.

pain gaming - IWC BrazilPaiN – In a bad position, being at the bottom of their group along with the Flash Wolves; PaiN need to bring their best and brightest performance during week 2 as they’re in need of more victories. If they manage to gain an early lead we’ve seen that they’ll punish their enemies in every way possible however if an early lead isn’t possible they need to have a strategy built around late game fighting so they can come out ahead after a few scraps.

For PaiN to take the victory here they’re going to have to have improved a few areas of their strategy, namely the level 1 fighting. Although it can give them a lead they always seem to push it too far and give something back to their enemies and if we’ve learned anything from the 1st week it’s that they can’t always pressure this small lead into a snowball to gain a significant advantage. If they avoid giving up an early lead and manage to strategically take a lead then we could see the tempo of the game shift in their favour as they dictate it to victory. This’ll only occur if KOO manage to miss-play the early game and assume that PaiN is going to keep their early aggression and jungle invade strategy where they normally trade a few kills early, doing so would more than likely give KOO the advantage as their methodical and strategic play allow them to push even a small lead into something greater. KOO will need to keep an eye on “BrTT” if they game pushes to a late game team fighting stage as PaiN often set up combos that allow their marksman to kick out a lot of damage, if KOO manage to close out the game before then or gain a significant lead through their play style then they should be able to claim the victory as their own.

Prediction: With what I consider to be a significantly more consistent and reliable play style I’ll be predicting a KOO victory. Being able to dictate the game from an early stage, although PaiN will put up a fight and never back down, KOO will take objectives at a quick pace and punish PaiN for their over aggression.

Week 2 – Day 1 – Match 4: Flash Wolves - LMS Team Logo Flash Wolves vs. Logo of LCS NA Team CLG Counter Logic Gaming

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 8th, 08:00 PDT/ 11:00 EDT/ 17:00 CEST/ 24:00 KST)

Being in a difficult position and currently tied last in their group along with PaiN, Flash Wolves are going to have to come up with something to assist in their victories against the stronger teams in the group. If they adapt quickly to the lane-swapping in a game and counter it then CLG could be looking at starting with an early disadvantage however from what we’ve seen so far this game could get quite close.

Flash Wolves - LMS team logoFlash Wolves – Currently not looking like the strongest of teams the Flash Wolves managed to take a victory off of the top contender KOO Tigers which knocked them down into a tie with CLG. Their strength and performance shown in the game vs KOO needs to start transitioning into their games for week 2 as their situation means any loss could be detrimental.

Logo of LCS NA Team CLGCounter Logic Gaming – Being a top contender for the groups means they don’t want to lose so they’ll be coming prepared. If they really were having a sloppy week, which they were complaining about, then we could be looking at a significantly stronger team coming into this second week as they’ve had a few days to relax and analyse the previous games played by each team in the group. Their performance against KOO was extremely lacklustre and if they’re not prepared the Flash Wolves could be ready to pounce and take away another game from a top contending team.

The Flash Wolves will need to increase their vision and focus heavily on getting the lanes that they want and are comfortable on, this game means a lot to both teams and with CLG already holding a victory over the Flash Wolves this game could mean a lot. If the Flash Wolves want to take a revenge victory they’ll be looking at early game pressure and forcing CLG to lose game tempo and giving up objectives, out rotating them through the laning phase and getting their jungler to assist their top and middle laners. If they succeed to catapult their laners into even a small lead they could start to dictate the pace of the game and make the chance of fighting completely out of CLGs control. CLG are going to want to stop any attempt at the Flash Wolves taking this early lead and will more than likely get deep jungle vision earlier in the game, this’ll keep their laners safer for a while and will give key information on getting to the lanes they want. If the drafting phase goes accordingly I think CLG are coming into this match with an experience advantage along with their previous victory. Don’t underestimate the Flash Wolves though, they’ve already defeated a top contending team and could be looking to do the same once again.

Prediction: I’ll be predicting a CLG victory over the Flash Wolves, I don’t think they’ve had enough time to adapt to the western style meta which is currently dominating the majority of groups at the World Championship 2015 and if they’re not prepared for it CLG will take an early lead and pressure it in a victory as they’re well versed in sieging turrets and taking objectives in quick succession.

Week 2 – Day 1 – Match 5: KOO Tigers - LCK Team Logo Koo Tigers vs. Flash Wolves - LMS Team Logo Flash Wolves

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 8th, 09:00 PDT/ 12:00 EDT/ 18:00 CEST/ 01:00 KST)

In their previous game the Flash Wolves managed to outplay the KOO Tigers on a macro level, taking fights that would give them a lead and eventually give them the victory. If the KOO Tigers continue to play against the Flash Wolves in a way that FW are comfortable with the game will always be contended.

Flash Wolves - LMS team logoFlash Wolves – The Flash Wolves had a good showing against the KOO Tigers and really knocked them down in their previous game, after the laning phase had played out the FW manage to push for a lead and really punished the KOO Tigers for how they were playing. If they manage to do something similar or even take an earlier lead through map pressure and rotation, adapting to the western style of play, then they could quite easily take another lead in this game and play it out how they previously had done.

Koo Tigers - LCK Team LogoKoo Tigers – Necessary to keep their eyes peeled, they’ll need to take early control of this game, unlike their previous encounter. If they manage to gain even a small lead earlier it will greatly increase their chances of holding out and taking a victory. KOO don’t often pressure the economy of their opposing team because they prefer to play strategically and take objectives however against the Flash Wolves this might not be their best option.

For the Flash Wolves to look at an end game victory screen they really need to apply some earlier oppression onto the members of the KOO Tigers and take an early lead, if they manage to do so then they’ll have objective control which is where the KOO Tigers normally thrive. By stripping down the strongest point of the KOO Tigers instead of attempting to pick at a weakness they could essentially shut down the gold gains from the team and force them into a low-economy style of play which, in my opinion, the FW also play better. For the KOO Tigers to hold their own and take a victory over the Flash Wolves they’re going to have to analyse their mistakes in the previous game, allowing the Flash Wolves to farm up equally to them was a big mistake and not applying enough early game pressure allowed the Flash Wolves to start dictating the pace of the game which ultimately lead to their dominating victory. Early deep vision and rotations with applied aggression should give KOO the advantage they need and would set back the Flash Wolves early enough for them to start playing their comfortable methodical play style while also holding that lead and pushing it to an even greater advantage.

Prediction: I have faith that the KOO Tigers have learned from their mistakes against this team in their last encounter so I’ll be predicting a KOO Victory over the Flash Wolves. The main reason being I believe they’re able to adapt more quickly and have a more reliable strategy to fall back to however like I stated above, if the FW do pressure the map early the game could become considerably more difficult.

Week 2 – Day 1 – Match 6: paiN GAMING - LoL Team Logo paiN Gaming vs. Logo of LCS NA Team CLG Counter Logic Gaming

Head to Head at Worlds: 0 : 1
(Oct. 8th, 10:00 PDT/ 13:00 EDT/ 19:00 CEST/ 02:00 KST)

With Counter Logic Gaming coming into this match with the current lead in victories along with a top standing position in their group, PaiN are going to need to play out an aggressive early game to set back CLG but will they succeed against the Faith?

pain gaming - IWC BrazilPaiN – With a rough time ahead of them this’ll be the last game of the day! Depending on how their previous matches went they might not have the mental fortitude to go into this game with confidence however if they battle their demons and have something line up for CLG to face then they could pressure the early game, as they have done on previous occasions, to take a small lead and if they don’t over step their bounds they could build a lead which is great enough for them to take down their opposing team.

Logo of LCS NA Team CLGCounter Logic Gaming – CLG are coming into this game expected to win against the Brazilian Wild Card Team however just 1 slight miss-step will give PaiN exactly what they need to take the victory, if CLG continue their sloppy play then it’s believable that they could mess up the early game and give PaiN exactly what they need to put on their best performance yet! Counter Logic Gaming are going to need to play strategically and not give up an early advantage against the overly aggressive PaiN Gaming.

PNG will need to think considerably more about when to go aggressive and what the risks and rewards are, we’ve seen that their ability to team fight can be phenomenal with their top laner landing 5man stuns however if the team isn’t prepared and communication is even slightly off this could work counter logically. If CLG manage to avoid the early aggression from PaiN and even out rotate them with early lane swaps along with their ability to pressure objectives then they will more than likely take an early lead but we’ve all seen that CLG can make terrible decisions and if the mental fatigue or pressure of the game gets to them and they make just 1 bad decision it’s highly likely that PaiN will turn their mistake into a huge lead which they work extremely well with. CLG should pressure PaiN early but avoid conflict, out manoeuvring them and earning a small lead through global pressure and rotations, if they do this 1 minor thing they could easily convert it into more objectives and a much larger lead, which in turn will lead them to victory.

Prediction: Counter Logic Gaming victory, don’t underestimate the power of PaiN though, just 1 small miss step and they’ll throw the game right into the face of CLG. If the early game is played out precise and strategically then CLG should come out slightly ahead and they’ll punish PaiN for their mistakes as they seem to make quite a few fairly often with their over aggression and such.
