Preview and Predictions LoL Worlds Day 3

After achieving an 11/12 prediction rate for the first 2 days of worlds, which i’m extremely happy with, we’ll be taking a look at day 3 where we’ll see some of the most exciting games so far! Let’s see just how well my knowledge serves me. hoping for a 17/1 prediction rate!

Group Stage Day 3 – Match 1: Edward Gaming - LPL Team Logo Edward Gaming vs. SK Telecom T1 - LCK Team Logo SK Telecom

(Oct. 3rd, 05:00 PDT/ 08:00 EDT/ 14:00 CEST/ 21:00 KST)

Being one of the most hyped up games so far in the World Championship 2015 the chance for SKTT1 to redeem their loss against EDG has arrived. With both teams having near perfect play in their own styles we could be looking at one of the longest games of the groups stage. EDG may not be the 1st seed from their region but they’ve had the strongest showing so far in the entire groups stage between all groups.

Edward Gaming - LPL Team LogoEDG – Having had a phenomenal showing against BKT closing the game out extremely quickly whilst also having a strong and even dominating performance against H2K we can only assume that EDG are ready to face off against their Korean rivals. If they’ve made good preparations and make the same style of plays that they had shown during MSI then we could look at EDG as a stronger team than when they were at MSI, standing a much better chance at taking yet another victory from the Korean powerhouse.

SK Telecom T1 - LCK Team LogoSKTT1 – Also holding a strong showing against the same teams as EDG, whilst having a bit of fun with their picks, SKTT1 managed to prove why they’re considered a Korean powerhouse team. But EDG is on a whole differently level to the teams they’ve faced before. With EDG having better performances and being the team to defeat them during MSI, SKTT1 are going to have to make sure they’re prepared for EDG to shut down their mid-laner “Faker”.

These teams are going to show what top tier League of Legends looks like, we can expect this game to extend unless one of the teams gets a significant early advantage. Both teams will focus on pressuring the map and fighting around the dragon pit for the early stages of the game and convert any lead they take into sieging and later game team fighting. EDG are more than likely going to use the same strategy they used during the MIS tournament where they focus on shutting down SKTT1’s mid laner and if SKTT1 are prepared for this then they’re likely to come out on top.

SKTT1 and EDG are both top tier teams and with them going head to head we’re likely to see a strategy come out from one of the teams. If they surprise their opponents they might be able to take an early lead but if it’s not significant then it won’t matter because both of these teams know how to play to their strengths and play from behind.

Prediction: I have a feeling that SKTT1 have been playing less seriously up until this point because they’ve been hiding something from EDG. I’ll be predicting an SKTT1 victory over EDG however it won’t come easy. EDG have the ability to shut down the SKTT1 mid-laner and if they’re not prepared for this SKTT1 could run into some trouble. I believe SKTT1 have something up their sleeve for taking a revenge victory against EDG and hopefully we’ll see both teams and full strength.

Group Stage Day 3 – Match 2: H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team Logo H2K vs. Bangkok Titans- LoL team Logo Bangkok Titans

(Oct. 3rd, 06:00 PDT/ 09:00 EDT/ 15:00 CEST/ 22:00 KST)

So far in the World Championship H2K have gone against 2 teams that are considered to be the best in the world and are teams that most people expect to make it to the finals however H2K have managed to hold their own against both teams and have shown that they’re not ready to lose. BKT have also gone against the same 2 teams however in their case it was 2 very decisive losses, can they bring it back and take a Wild Card victory against the European 2nd seed team in the 6th match of Worlds Group C?

bangkok titans - IWC TurkeyBKT – The Bangkok Titans haven’t had a phenomenal showing so far however they have shown that they have the ability to capitalise on over aggression by taking kills from SKTT1 when they tried to press an advantage too hard. For them to take the game against H2K they’re going to have to show early rotations like they did against EDG while also adding in some of the play style they had against SKTT1. If they manage to hold out they may just be able to take an advantage.

H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team LogoH2K – After taking 2 losses, H2K are not looking so strong however taking into consideration that they managed to hold out much better than BKT whilst going against the same teams has shown that they’re going into this game with an advantage. If they get a few comfortable picks they should be able to apply their early game pressure and push a lead, possibly earning them their first worlds victory.

BKT are definitely in a worse position than H2K coming into this game. H2K have more experience against the stronger teams and have shown that they can hold out much better, if H2K get an early advantage we know they have the knowledge and ability to take objectives and advantages from it. BKT have shown a lack of fear when it comes to diving turrets against teams considered better than them, if they pull out some of the early aggression that they’d shown while against EDG they might just be able to push an advantage but even then H2K know how to play from behind and might just be able to bring it back.

Still not wanting to underestimate the ability of BKT I should mention that they’ve only faced off against the strongest teams in their group however it’s the same scenario for H2K, if either team pulls out a surprise in this game then the game could be taken by anyone.

Prediction: I’ll be predicting a H2K victory for this game because, as I said before, even though they took 2 losses, just like BKT, they managed to hold out much better and even contest the game for a longer period of time. If they manage to take even the smallest lead we can assume that they’ll convert it into multiple objectives and their statistics don’t lie. BKT will have to have earned a strong lead by 20mins to contest the game.

Group Stage Day 3 – Match 3: LGD Gaming - LPL Team Logo LGD Gaming vs. KT Rolster - LCK Team Logo KT Rolster

(Oct. 3rd, 07:00 PDT/ 10:00 EDT/ 16:00 CEST/ 23:00 KST)

With LGD coming into the game after a loss against Origen they’re going to have to step up to contest against Kt Rolster. Kt Rolster has had quite a strong showing against TSM by taking a victory that came quite decisively. It came as no surprise to me that Kt Rolster would win the game but it looked like they were having a bit of trouble for a while, if LGD can have more of an impact than TSM did against KT then they could be coming into this game strong.

LGD Gaming - LPL TeamLGD – They may not have had the strongest showing but they have shown their ability to press an advantage, taking every possible opening against OG they managed to keep the gold even for 30minutes before any deficit had accumulated. If they play the same style and work around their strongest player, their Marksman “Imp”, they may be able to take the game as long as they have enough threats in their composition.

KT Rolster - LCK Team LogoKt Rolster – KT took their time and played quite safely for a large portion of their first game but against LGD this might not be an option, having such experience as a Korean team they should be able to adapt accordingly but if they don’t then they could be in trouble. KT have had a weak showing in the mid-lane so far and if LGD pressure this then KT is going to have to be prepared to take advantages elsewhere, something which they’ve shown they are able to do as their vision is precise.

If KT manage to hold out then they’ll run into the trouble of LGD being a well versed late game team however if they change up their play style and pressure early they may be able to force LGD back and take a victory. We’ve not seen much early aggression from KT so far and when they did it often didn’t pay off for them. LGD are likely to pressure early and build a small lead which, if they’re able to increase it, could be detrimental for KT. Both of these teams have extremely strong vision, often with 2 sight stones being build and if we see all players in the game on comfortable champions then KT are going to have to try and pressure for an early advantage over LGD which they can achieve through their strong map rotations that LGD may not be able to match.

With a 1st seed Chinese team going against a 3rd seed Korean team this match could be extremely exciting as both teams may have to adapt to their opponents, KT have had a stronger showing so far but LGD might finally show up and prove why they’re the 1st seed in their region.

Prediction – I think this match could play out quite slowly and with LGD having the likes of “Imp” as a marksman, who is quite possibly the best marksman in the world, I think LGD are going to take the victory. KT could come out and surprise us by pressuring early instead of playing slowly as they have done before but I don’t think it’ll be very likely.

Group Stage Day 3 – Match 4: Origen - EU LCS Team Logo Origen vs. Logo of LCS NA Team TSM Team SoloMid

(Oct. 3rd, 08:00 PDT/ 11:00 EDT/ 17:00 CEST/ 24:00 KST)

A lot of hype follows both of these teams as they’re seen as the underdogs of Group D. Origen are coming into the group strong after taking a victory over LGD whereas TSM having lost their game against Kt Rolster means they’re coming into the game on their back foot. Can the 2nd North American seed defeat the European 3rd seed?

Origen - LCS Team LogoOrigen – Going against the analysts, OG took their first victory and although they made a mistake which stalled the game out they managed to show that they’re not a team to mess with. After they managed to earn a lead they pushed it decisively and earned a considerably gold lead, which is quite an achievement against the Chinese 1st seed team, LGD.

Logo of LCS NA Team TSMTSM – Team Solo Mid haven’t had the strongest showing at the World Championship 2015 so far but they’ve shown some great improvements since their 0:3 playoff series against CLG. Holding their own against the 3rd Korean seed before taking an unfortunate loss, they were able to show that they can contest against strong teams and could even take a victory.

Throughout this series we’re going to want to keep an eye on the mid-lane as both teams have superstar mid-laners who often make phenomenal things occur during the game. Expecting to see 2 teleports come in from Origen once again their map pressure is going to be difficult to contest and as we’ve seen, if they get a gold lead they’re going to relentlessly press it. TSM are going to need to assist their top lane as, in my opinion, SoaZ is the stronger of the 2 laners and is more likely to make things happen. With TSM showing improvements already made this match could end up in both teams fighting head to head for objectives whereas a lot of the other teams manage to earn a significant gold lead by this point and push.

Origen hold multiple seasons up experience using teleport and we’ve seen that TSM’s top-laner, Dyrus, has had some trouble using the summoner spell to maximum efficiency. If Dyrus has a good laning phase then TSM might be able to make things happen as their team fighting is quite proficient however as we’ve already seen from Origen their own team fighting ability is fairly outstanding.

Prediction: As much as TSM have improved I’ll be predicting an Origen victory. Their showing so far on the worlds stage has been significantly better than TSM’s and their ability to adapt throughout the game will give them an advantage. I also think their team impact as a whole is better with all of their lanes being equally strong whereas TSM funnel more gold onto their mid-laner who’s not being showing up too well so far.

Group Stage Day 3 – Match 5: Invictus Gaming - LPL Team Logo Invictus Gaming vs. Logo of LCS NA Team Cloud9 Cloud9

(Oct. 3rd, 09:00 PDT/ 12:00 EDT/ 18:00 CEST/ 01:00 KST)

After Cloud9’s recent performance this game became a lot more difficult to predict, C9 managed to take a victory against the Taiwanese powerhouse AHQ and not only that but they managed to take it convincingly without struggle. Their decisive play and extravagant picks during the champion select allowed to the come into the game with a surprise and I’m unsure of how well IG can handle it. Let’s not underestimate either team during this match as both teams haven’t had enough time to show their true potential yet.

Logo of LCS NA Team Cloud9Cloud9 – With an amazing showing coming into the groups stage in day 1, C9 have shown that they can contend against the teams from other regions. After taking an extremely decisive win we can assume that their practice went well. They’ve managed to cover up a lot of their weakness and with their shot-calling and rotations being some of the best in the world we’ll be looking at a C9 like we’ve never seen before.

Invictus Gaming - LPL Team LogoInvictus Gaming – Regardless of them being backed into a wall during their first match in the groups stage, IG still has the time and potential to prove why they’re a team at the World Championship. They may not have shown as the strongest team just yet but taking into consideration them taking victories off of the likes of EDG and having a decisive 3:0 victory during their Regional Qualifier finals we can assume that IG has a lot more to show.

I think IG are going to surprise us in this game, being able to really show off why they’re here at the World Championship but with Cloud9 coming into the groups stage looking so strong this match won’t be as easy as everyone had previously assumed. Cloud9 have shown that they’re able to make early map movements to press advantages along with punishing their enemy teams for even the most minor mistakes but if they slip into old habits this game won’t last long. Invictus Gaming are going to have to have done their research here because Cloud9 have shown that they’re not afraid of unconventional or off meta picks and if IG can’t handle it like AHQ couldn’t then Cloud9 could surprise us all and take another win, coming closer to making it out of the groups stage.

Prediction – I’ll be predicting a Cloud9 victory, with their previous performance being so dominating against the 1st Chinese seed we can assume that they’ve covered enough of their weaknesses to perform against the best in the world. Invictus Gaming probably won’t let it come easy and I can see this game being one of the longest of the groups stage as long as both teams bring their best but Cloud9, I assume, will ultimately take the victory with better shot calling and confident plays.

Group Stage Day 3 – Match 6: Ahq e-Sports Club - LMS Team Logo AHQ e-Sports Club vs. Logo of LCS EU Team Fnatic Fnatic

(Oct. 3rd, 10:00 PDT/ 13:00 EDT/ 19:00 CEST/ 02:00 KST)

After Fnatic had a great showing in their first game during the day 1 World Championship 2015 group stage by defeating their opponents Invictus Gaming in one of the fastest games of the entire day we’re looking at a European team that could dominate the group. AHQ had an extremely lacklustre showing against Cloud9 as the first seed team from their region taking a loss against the underdog team and 3rd seed from the North American region. If the same AHQ shows up to this game then they’re in trouble, let’s hope they’ve stepped up their game and show us something exciting.

Ahq e-Sports Club - LMS Team LogoAHQ – A lacklustre performance during the first day has set them on the back foot of their group during the World Championship 2015 however we’ve seen this team take convincing victories in the past and underestimating them would be a grave mistake. Being the 1st seed from their region and defeating the likes of the Flash Wolves, who contended extremely well against the NA 1st seed, we know that they have strengths that they can work with and hopefully they show it in this match.

Logo of LCS EU Team FnaticFnatic – FNC had a decisive victory in their first match and managed to push the Chinese team Invictus Gaming, who people assumed would be one of the stronger teams in their group, by pressuring their lead and pushing it making IG lose hope and surrendering around 20mins. If they play to their same strengths in this match then they could pressure AHQ quickly and backing them into a bad position.

Both of these teams have strong map awareness however it definitely favours Fnatic more, one of the issues AHQ ran into in their previous game was being a bit over zealous and pushing aggression when their opposing team had the advantage, if they want to contend this match they’re going to have to use a bit more decisive play to snowball a lead. Fnatic are coming into this game being seen as the stronger team and after their performance we can’t blame the fans for that. With their team being on a moral high ground and with their rotations and shot calling being near perfect with a lot of confident plays and engages Fnatic might just be able to capitalise on AHQs weakness at international events. If both teams come into the game strong we could be looking at a lot of close fight that keep the audience and players on the edge of their seats because although AHQ lack some consistency they are definitely a team that could surprise us all.

Prediction: I’ll be predicting a Fnatic victory over AHQ here because of 1 strong point and deciding factor which is AHQ do lack consistency and going against the top European team, that went undefeated during their summer split, will be a challenge. Fnatic tend to take no prisoners when they get a lead and I expect them to go into this game strong and winning it quite decisively.
