The NA LCS Regional Qualifier for the upcoming League of Legends World Championship kicks off with the first round match of Cloud9 vs. Gravity. Cloud9 is the only team in both LCS legues that made it into the Regionals without acutally beeing in the LCS Summer Playoffs. After the NA Summer finals in New York, the North American LoL league is returning to Los Angeles for the three rounds of the Regional Qualifiers in order to determine 3rd NA seed for Worlds 2015. The format of the regionals is called gauntlet and has been around for a couple of years in the Eastern LoL Leagues like LCK. The winner of the first round moves up to the second round where Team Impulse is waiting. In total 3 rounds are played until the last ticket to the World Championship is taken by the winner of the tournament. All rounds are a best of 5 series and the patch has not been confirmed yet.

NA Round #1: Gravity vs. Cloud 9
Head to head record in regular Summer Split: Gravity 2 : 0 Cloud9
(August 29th, Start Time: Start Time: 12:00 PM PDT/ 03:00 PM EDT/ 09:00 PM CEST)
Gravity vs Cloud9 could be a best of 5 series that’d be full of close games. Be ready to sit on the edge of your seat! With the last match they played against each other being so close (Even gold and kills at 20mins) we could be looking at some long games. So pack your patience!
Gravity – Previously known as “Curse Academy”, this team had a difficult time making it into the LCS. After picking up ex-curse Marksman David “Cop” Roberson they managed to storm through the Challenger series and made it into the LCS. Now with a few roster swaps and plenty of practice they’re looking like an extremely strong team; taking 4th place this season with a standing of 12-7.
Cloud9 – With their team on the decline and their previous Jungler William “Meteos” Hartman retiring they manage to get their already retired Mid-laner and Shotcaller Hai “Hai” Du Lam to join the team once again as the Jungler. This allowed them to work on their team play and strategy, improving their standings in the last few weeks.
Both of these teams show great strength in the Jungle. Hai, being fairly new to the role, show’s good potential holding a 100% win-rate on his Shyvana and averaging 12k per game. However in comparison to GV’s Jungler Min-Su “Move” Kang, who holds a much higher win-rate across the board, his strength doesn’t get to shine. If target bans avoid both of these players expect to see some Shyvana and Nidalee played.
With both teams having very strong Junglers we’re going to be looking at a lot of objectives being contested. These are not the only players to keep an eye out for though! The Marksman on both teams are able to turn the tides of any team fight. With Cloud9’s Marksman Zachery “Sneaky” Scuderi being regarded as one of North Americas best Marksman for a long period of time can the ,5.2 KDA and 16k Average gold per game, carry of Gravity have as much of an impact?
Prediction – With hopes that Cloud9 have been working hard for this short break I’ll be expecting a few close games, however with Gravity currently holding a 2:0 over them whilst also holding a 12-7 standing this season It doesn’t look like it’ll be enough to dissuade a Gravity Victory. During Week7 Day1 of the NALCS Gravity managed to have an enormously tide turning team fight by the Baron pit at 27mins. With this one particular team fight, that was initiated by Cloud9, lead to their demise. Looking forward to improvements from Cloud9 to make some close games.
If the Cloud9 from Week2 Day1 of the NALCS shows up we could be looking at some much simpler games for GV. Having given up first blood at 11mins due to an over extending Mid-laner GV managed to have all 3 outer tier turrets by 12mins. This strategic playing from GV lead to a 3k gold lead by 12mins, taking this lead to an eventual team fight at 24mins in that lead to a quick 25min Baron Nashor. If this Gravity show up this regionals we’ll be looking at some not so close games. I’ll be predicting a Gravity 3:2 Victory due to their current standings in the NA LCS and current win-rate against Cloud9, with a few close games and even a few games being taken by the ever improving Cloud9.
