Preview and Predictions

EU Round #1: Logo of LCS EU Team Roccat Roccat vs. Giants - LCS EU Team Logo Giants Gaming

Head to head record in regular Summer Split: Roccat 2 : 1 Giants Gaming (including tiebreaker)
(August 29th, Start Time: 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 05:00 PM CEST)

The Roccat vs Giants series is looking to be a close one. With both teams currently holding similar standings in the summer split, 9-10 for Roccat and 8-11 for Giants, and also having a 1:1 track record against each other in the regular split! In the tiebreaker they played against each other Roccat showed amazing strength, taking a 3k gold lead by 11mins.

Logo of LCS EU Team RoccatRoccat – With an amazing showing from the 2012 EU Promotion Tournament to the 2014 LCS, Roccat have shown great promise. At one point they were being considered one of the strongest European teams. However with a rocky spring split in 2015 doubts started to hover. Showing improvements and better overall play in the summer split they average 65k Gold per game and a team KDA average of 3.9.

Giants - EU LCS Team LogoGiants – With many rocky showings and a few bad seasons this team has always managed to fight their way back. Having been previously relegated they stayed strong and brought themselves back to the LCS. With the slogan #NeverGiveUp this team has shown promise and potential. Their showing vs Roccat in Week9 Day2 may have looked bad but their Week 3 game was significantly better. Taking a gold lead early and holding it past 10mins. With a fight breaking out at 18mins at drake Giants manage to push this small lead into 4k gold lead, eventually pushing this into a 7k gold lead by 31min. With the ability to pick off separate members of Roccat they took the Victory at 39mins.

These teams have similar strengths with “play maker” supports Oskar “Vander” Bogdan for Roccat and Oskar “G0DFRED” Lundstrom for Giants. These matches will be defined by the supports and Mid-Laners. Isaac “PePiiNeRO” Flores, with a 4.3 KDA, has shown great strength against Roccat with poke-heavy picks such as Varus, Ezreal and Kogmaw. His Mid-lane strength shows with his 15k gold average per game. Against the likes of Roccats Mid-laner Erlend “Nukeduck” Holm however his strength might not be able to shine through. Nukeduck has a similar but slightly better KDA with it currently standing at 4.9, also holding a 15k gold average per game, using the likes of Azir and other control mages like Viktor to take out his enemies and have control of team fights. We’re going to want to look to the Mid-lane to see who can make the moves necessary to take a victory.

Between the 2 support players Vander definitely shows more team participation. With a strong KDA of 4.7 he outshines a lot of his own team mates. This could be because he’s the team’s shot caller, deciding when to do things and how to do them, or this could be because of his heavy-engage style of play. With Alistar and Nautilus being his most played champions this split we’ll being seeing a front line that’s difficult to break. This doesn’t mean G0DFRED won’t be just as influential. With the likes or Morgana being picked by him we’re going to want to keep our eyes peeled as he’s likely to flash-bind his enemies and create opportunities for his team to take a lead.

Prediction – This one’s difficult, but with Roccat showing a significant gain in strength against Giants during the tiebreaker game played during Week9 and a slow increase in overall strength I’ll be keeping my eyes on Vander to protect his team and take a victory with many well thought out engages and team fights; predicting a Roccat team victory 3-1 over Giants.
