Preview and Predictions LCS EU Week 5

What a week for the underdogs! Week 4 showed just how much Gambit Gaming and Copenhagen Wolves can do when they are able to play well in their games. Gambit Gaming proved that they still have that spark in them albeit their miserable games in the past. The Wolves however surprised everyone last week when they were able to take down one of the formidable teams in the EU LCS – Fnatic. Slowly but surely they loomed over Fnatic until victory was inevitable. Will this week once again change the status quo of the standings or will SK and Fnatic keep on dominating the charts up until the end of the split? Find out in this week’s LCS Preview.

Pre-match analysis LCS EU Spring Split 2015 | Week 5 – Day 1

Match #1: Logo of LCS EU Team Roccat ROCCAT vs. Logo of LCS EU Team Copenhagen Wolves COPENHAGEN WOLVES
(Feb 19, 9:00 AM PST/ 12:00 PM EST/ 6:00 PM CET)

The Wolves finally found what they were looking for in the past few weeks – several wins. This was by no means a daring feat for them as they took the win over Fnatic last week. It seems they have finally found their groove while Roccat is still in murky waters. Will Copenhagen Wolves continue to play as a team or will the Solo Queue mentality between their members continue to haunt their games?

Prediction: It might seem like Roccat is in a bad position this split. The Wolves might take another win in this match if and only if they show more signs of teamwork in this match or else Roccat takes this win.

Match #2: Elements - LCS EU Team Logo ELEMENTS vs. Giants - LCS EU Team Logo GIANTS GAMING
(Feb 19, 10:00 AM PST/ 1:00 PM EST/ 7:00 PM CET)

With the removal of Wickd and the addition of Kev1n in to the team this week, Elements is in a limbo. During Wickd’s AMA on Reddit, he pinpointed the issue of the team during the early weeks of the LCS by being too passive to a point that they are handing the win to other teams. Wickd’s point was spot on. Froggen and company have been to passive in the past few weeks that they are barely making any dent to their enemy’s lineup. Sure, one can argue that a methodical game is better than a grasping-at-straws game but this is Elements, former Team Alliance, winner of the EU LCS for Season Three, we are talking about. Elements have been in a dormant state over the past few weeks and the team needs to wake up fast before anything happens that will tear the team apart. Rekkles needs to take a chance at the bottom lane but his argument of being defensive will help him win the game is not effective when they are up against teams like SK and Fnatic who are very aggressive during the laning phase. Rekkles might be the carry but during his time in Fnatic, Yellowstar carried the lane for him until it was time for him to shine. But in his time in Elements, he needs to carry himself as his support Nyph is also a passive player. With two or three passive players in the team, one can only wish for Elements to bring out the fire in them and start ravaging people left and right. Elements know they can turn on the rage but they don’t seem to know when to turn it on and how to.

Prediction: If Elements continue to play passively even with Kev1n in the mix, time is up for them.

Match #3: Logo of LCS EU Team Fnatic FNATC vs. Logo of LCS EU Team SK Gaming SK GAMING
(Feb 19, 11:00 AM PST/ 2:00 PM EST/ 8:00 PM CET)

Much like the old school rumble from last week’s NA LCS between TSM and CLG, the time has come for two of the oldest rivals in the EU LCS to finally meet. Fnatic and SK have been dominating the charts this split and now is the time for these two teams to come and see who is really the boss around the EU LCS. SK has enjoyed a fruitful 8-0 standings in the chart but Fnatic is most likely and probably the only team that take a game off their current winning streak and rattle SK down to the core. However, it is a tough mountain to climb for Fnatic as SK has been killing it since the start of the split.

When compared, SK has far more better stats than Fnatic. With an average KDA of 6.83 last week, SK fared better than 5.54 for Fnatic. Week to week, SK maintained their KDA stats whereas Fnatic has been all over the place. However, when it comes to champion kills, Fnatic has been far more dominating in teamfights than SK. With an average of 22.13 in Week 4 alone, Fnatic showed just how well they are able to pick up one kill to another whereas SK relied heavily on the laning phase with 15.88 average champions killed. With such stats, Fnatic’s only chance at winning the game is through carefully crafted lane swaps which forces early teamfights at the Dragon and all over the jungle. This makes the game far more interesting than the normal laning phase. Fnatic enjoys roaming around especially with Rengar and Lissandra in their lineup. A Jarvan would also suffice but a steady Rengar for Reignover is nothing short of perfection. Fnatic has never failed on Rengar so SK should bank on banning it right off the bat and force Reignover to a champion that he is not comfortable with.

The pick and ban phase will be very important. Aside from the Rengar ban against Fnatic, they also need to stop Yellowstar from snowballing the game for AD carry and snatch Annie or Leona from their lineup. With that, SK has complete control over the game unless Fnatic has actually anticipated such move from SK and learned a few tricks up their sleeves.

Prediction: This match should have the same hype as the one on NA LCS as this has far more interesting gameplay than their North American counterpart. Match can go both ways.

Match #4: Meet your Makers - LCS EU Team Logo MEET YOUR MAKERS vs. Logo of LCS EU Team Gambit Gaming GAMBIT GAMING
(Feb 19, 12:00 PM PST/ 3:00 PM EST/ 9:00 PM CET)

With Mimer gone, MYM is thrown under the bus and will most likely limp their way to another heavy loss. Jwaow takes over Mimer at the top lane this week while NiQ is benched as well and Betsy steps in for Gambit.

Prediction: Both teams suffer from roster changes in Week 5 but Gambit will most likely benefit more from this than MeetYourMakers.

Match #5: Unicorns of Love - LCS EU Team Logo UNICORNS OF LOVE vs. H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team Logo H2K
(Feb 19, 1:00 PM PST/ 4:00 PM EST/ 10:00 PM CET)

Unicorns of Love have done it again. This time, a surprise Kog’maw mid threw their opponents into a loop. Although there were clear mishaps along the way, the surprise pick was nothing short of brilliant. However, UoL should not be keen on simply winning by picking unconventional champions and force them on a role that many people would raising their eyebrows on. UoL needs to clean up their mess and start playing as a pro team before time runs out.

Prediction: However, you have got to hand it over to UOL for bringing other picks to the LCS. Edge UOL

Pre-match analysis LCS EU Spring Split 2015 | Week 5 – Day 2

Match #1: Logo of LCS EU Team Fnatic FNATIC vs. Logo of LCS EU Team Gambit Gaming GAMBIT GAMING
(Feb 20, 9:00 AM PST/ 12:00 PM EST/ 6:00 PM CET) (Head to Head record this Split: 1 : 0 for Fnatic)

Whether Fnatic wins or loses their match against SK during the first day, it will be time for them to make another statement with this match against Gambit. Fnatic will surely trample Gambit if they do win their match against SK but if they do get a defeat, Fnatic will want to put a stamp on the LCS that they are down but not out.

Prediction: Fnatic has far better chances of winning this game than Gambit but there is still a sliver of hope for Gambit to take this one.

Match #2: Logo of LCS EU Team Roccat ROCCAT vs. Elements - LCS EU Team Logo ELEMENTS
(Feb 20, 10:00 AM PST/ 1:00 PM EST/ 7:00 PM CET) (Head to Head record this Split: 1 : 0 for Roccat)

Elements might be playing passively but it does not mean that they are not good enough to stay in the middle of the pack. Roccat has lost their way in the Spring Split and they will need fine tuning before they can go back to what they once were during the Season Three of the LCS.

Prediction: Elements need to step up their game in Week 5 or else they do win games but with mediocre results or even loose them. Even though Roccat won the first match in the Spring Split Elements has better chances this time.

Match #3: Logo of LCS EU Team Copenhagen Wolves COPENHAGEN WOLVES vs. Meet your Makers - LCS EU Team Logo MEET YOUR MAKERS
(Feb 20, 11:00 AM PST/ 2:00 PM EST/ 8:00 PM CET) (Head to Head record this Split: 1 : 0 for MYM)

With the current issues surrounding MYM, the Wolves might want to take advantage of it.

Prediction: Silently, the Wolves make another win.

Match #4: Giants - LCS EU Team Logo GIANTS GAMING vs. Unicorns of Love - LCS EU Team Logo UNICORNS OF LOVE
(Feb 20, 12:00 PM PST/ 3:00 PM EST/ 9:00 PM CET) (Head to Head record this Split: 1 : 0 for UOL)

Prediction: Unicorns of Love possesses the skill to turn this game to their favor.

Match #5: Logo of LCS EU Team SK Gaming SK GAMING vs. H2K Gaming - LCS EU Team Logo H2K
(Feb 20, 1:00 PM PST/ 4:00 PM EST/ 10:00 PM CET) (Head to Head record this Split: 1 : 0 for SK Gaming)

Whether or not SK Gaming will win their match in Week 5 against Fnatic, SK is still SK. Their laning phase and teamfighting skills have been solid so far and with Forg1ven as their AD carry, their chances of maintaining their lead at the top of the standings exponentially increases. There seems to be no stopping SK Gaming right now.

Prediction: SK takes another point.
