Week 1 – NA LCS Spring Split 2017

“New game, new chances” is the slogan for many teams of the North American LCS as the entire region heads into Week 1 of the 2017 Spring Split. On paper the NA LCS is past all recognition, a fact we can very well notice in the increase of South Korean imports this season. Especially the toplane match-ups will be crazy and exciting with big names like Flame, Looper, Impact and Ssumday competing for the best toplaner in North America. Unlike the EU LCS the North American format remains in force without any changes which guarantees the respectable amount of 90 games for all the fans and viewers. Week 1 of the NA LCS Spring Split 2017 will start on January 20th with the clash of the North American bedrocks Team SoloMid and Cloud9 who both appear to be the current fan favorites. A lot has been going on in the pre-season and so we got a couple of new teams and a whole load of roster changes. If you have the desire to spend a day watching games live on stage you can find more information about the LCS tickets right here. So grab your popcorn and softdrinks, call your friends and turn on the screens – Week 1 of the NA LCS is already awaiting!

NA LCS Spring Split Week 1 – Day 3:

Team SoloMid vs. Immortals NA LCS Spring Split 2017 Week 1
Week 1 | Day 3 – Match #1: Team Logo TSM NA LCS 2017 Team SoloMid vs. Team Logo Immortals NA LCS 2017 Immortals

Start Time: January 22th, 12:00 PM PST/ 03:00 PM EST/ 21:00 CET

Both Team Solo Mid and Immortals have run into trouble when trying to climb their way up the 2017 NA LCS, Immortals managed to push forward with phenomenal late game decisions though. Team Solo Mid quickly fell to Cloud9 on the 1st day of the season and Immortals were under constant pressure from Echo Fox. This is an opportunity for either team to make an impact so they’re going to need to take hold and prove themselves. Make sure you catch the game as it goes live on Sunday, January 22nd!

Team Logo TSM NA LCS 2017Team Solo Mid – After a rough loss against Cloud9, Team Solo Mid are going to need to pick things up quickly. They didn’t look too rough but they fell behind with a few bad decisions and simply being outplayed. Their individual performances were lacking and if they don’t work on it quickly they could fall behind on the ladder. This ex-titan team will need to pull it together to push forward against Immortals!

Team Logo Immortals NA LCS 2017Immortals – Against Echo Fox they were under constant pressure, their early game was definitely lacking but when team fighting came around they were on top of their game. They opened up a lot of opportunities with their late game shot calling and their team fighting, if they can equalise or come out on top of the early game they’re going to extremely difficult to control.

Immortals are looking like a great team for the late game, their early game was definitely lacking though. If Team Solo Mid can turn on the aggression in the earlier stages of the game they might be able to build a reliable advantage that can help them threated the middle and later stages of the game. They’re going to need to get their middle laner in an advantageous position to come out on top of the middle game but with some calculated aggression it shouldn’t be a problem. Immortals are going to want to hold onto their early game, equalising it shouldn’t be a problem and could lead them to an advantage later on. They’ve said themselves that their early communication is lacking but when the late game comes around their opponents are going to need to watch out, Immortals are going to want to play for team fighting and objectives so playing with patience will be key.

Prediction: Team Solo Mid Victory. Even though Immortals managed to take their win against Echo Fox a few weaknesses were made apparent that can now be abused by their opponents. Team Solo Mid is very analytical and will know what to capitalise on to gain a lead. I think they’re going to find a few opportunities that will become game deciders, Immortals are going to put up one hell of a fight though.

Team Dignitas vs. Cloud9 NA LCS Spring Split 2017 Week 1
Week 1 | Day 3 – Match #2: Team Logo Dignitas NA LCS 2017 Team Dignitas vs. Team Logo Cloud9 NA LCS 2017 Cloud9

Start Time: January 22th, 03:00 PM PST/ 06:00 PM EST/ 24:00 CET

Both Dignitas and Cloud9 managed to take commanding victories against their opponents so far this week, but now they’re going head to head and only 1 of them will be able to take the next step forward and up the NA LCS ladder. Cloud9 definitely looked like the stronger of the 2 teams, taking down TSM, but Dignitas are looking like a formidable team. Who will come out on top and take the next step forward? Make sure you catch the games as they go live on Sunday, January 22nd, to find out!

Team Dignitas – DIG are often underestimated. They were considered a fairly underdog team before but now they’re proving themselves. They’ve already managed to get a win under their belt, even though they ran into a bit of trouble, and they’re looking like a pretty reliable team. But against Cloud9 it could be a completely different story. Dignitas are going to need to avoid mistakes, play with patience and wait for opportunities.

Team Logo Cloud9 NA LCS 2017Cloud 9 – C9 took a dominant victory against Team Solo Mid on the 1st day of the season. Not only did they manage to come out on top of their series without taking a single loss but they did so with large leads and as a dominant driving force. They knew what to do and when to do it, their decision making was sublime and their micromanagement matched it.

Cloud 9 are looking to be at a slight advantage here, they took a more commanding victory in their series and it was against a team that are assumed to be fairly strong. They have shown great strength throughout all stages of the game so Dignitas might have a hard time finding an opening or opportunity to gain a lead. Because of this they might want to turn to some early game aggression and earlier rotations to siege turrets and gain a lead. This could give them opportunities to gain vision control of their opponent’s jungle and will also allow them to pressure other global objectives before C9 might be prepared. Cloud9 are going to need to stay on top of Dignitas, look for a few skirmishes and shut down any tempo plays that Dignitas might make, this will allow them to stay on top throughout the game and look for opportunities to siege relentlessly.

Prediction: Cloud 9 Victory. Cloud9 are looking like the more dominant of the 2 teams, they have shown great confidence in their decision making and are already looking like a team on top of their game. I think they’ll find a few opportunities during the middle stages of the game and will use these to pressure and push forward for a series victory.

Team Envy vs. Counter Logic Gaming NA LCS Spring Split 2017 Week 1
Week 1 | Day 3 – Match #3: Team Logo Envy NA LCS 2017 Team EnVyUs vs. Team Logo CLG NA LCS 2017 Counter Logic Gaming

Start Time: January 22th, 12:00 PM PST/ 03:00 PM EST/ 21:00 CET

Team Envyus had a rough time against FlyQuest but that was fairly expected. Team Envyus managed to show a lot of strengths during their games against FLY and this could help them against Counter Logic Gaming. CLG are adamant, looking for a victory, so they’re going to be putting NV in a lot of difficult positions, will NV come out on top or will CLG take a step forward and up the ladder? Tune in on Sunday, January 22nd, to find out!

Team Logo Envy NA LCS 2017Team Envyus – NV were under a lot of pressure in their 1st series against FLY and they took a rough hit. They had shown potential though, their 2nd game was definitely a lot stronger than their 1st and they show promise. They’re going to need to improve on their early game strategies though, against CLG it might not be as much of an issue but if they’re looking to climb it’s going to be necessary.

Team Logo CLG NA LCS 2017Counter Logic Gaming – When facing off against TL their top side was a weak point. They were unable to get their top side ahead and this let TL run rampant during the later stages of the game. During their 2nd game they looked significantly stronger but will it be enough to take down NV? Early games are weak but with some added aggression CLG could quickly become a formidable force.

Both teams are having issues with their early game; they’re losing advantages and running into issues before they should be. They’re going to want to pace themselves and work with more patience when deciding on objectives or team fights. Split second decision making can quickly lead to losing an advantage or can create significant opportunities for their opponents. CLG are going to want to try and push for middle game pressure whereas team NV are going to want to try to create earlier opportunities that are reliable to capitalise on. Counter Logic Gaming have always had a strong late game so NV will need to find a way to pressure the map and gain control before it becomes too late!

Prediction: Counter Logic Gaming Victory. After taking their loss against Team Liquid I think CLG are going to come back with a few minor improvements that are going to have a significant impact. NV is looking promising but with how badly they fell to FLY their position on the ladder is under question. I think CLG will find a few great opportunities around the middle stages of the games which will properly them into a dominant lead, pushing them to victory.

Team Liquid vs. FlyQuest NA LCS Spring Split 2017 Week 1
Week 1 | Day 3 – Match #4: Team Logo Liquid NA LCS 2017 Team Liquid vs. FlyQuest NA LCS 2017 - Logo Fly Quest

Start Time: January 22th, 03:00 PM PST/ 06:00 PM EST/ 24:00 CET

Team Liquid managed to take a strong victory against Counter Logic Gaming in their debut game this season, something that should strike fear into the other competing teams. FlyQuest also managed something similar against Team Envyus! Both teams are looking strong but only one of them will be able to push forward here and continue their climb up the ladder! Make sure you tune in on Sunday, January 22nd, to see which team will proceed!

Team Logo Liquid NA LCS 2017Team Liquid – A victory this early against Counter Logic Gaming is no easy feat. They managed to take a lead and work their way to a series victory without losing a single game, they’ve shown great control and decision making which will certainly keep FLY under wraps for a while but will it be enough? TL is going to need to find a way to build a significant lead if they’re looking to take the win!

FlyQuest NA LCS 2017 - LogoFlyQuest – FLY put on a few spectacular performances, they managed to take a huge lead in their 1st game which allowed them to take a fairly quick victory and during their 2nd game their decision making really pushed them ahead, If they can control early game aggression and rely on their later decision making then they’ll keep TL under pressure.

I think FlyQuest are in a more advantageous position here, their late game decision making is being driven by a few veteran players that have both theory crafting and shot calling under wraps. This could give them both an early game and late game advantage; they might want to avoid early skirmishes though! Team Liquid is going to want to look for a few small fights in the earlier stages of the game to open up opportunities for them to gain vision control, this will allow them to pace themselves and look for more advantageous fights around the middle stages of the game and will also open up opportunities for them to pressure the global objectives. It’s going to be tough for both teams but I think it’ll be decided by the middle stages of the game so make sure you’re watching closely!

Prediction: FlyQuest Victory. FlyQuest are already proving to be a difficult team to control. When they gain an early lead they know exactly what to do to extend it and pressure into a strong and more dominant lead. Because of this I think they’ll pull ahead of Team Liquid and come out on top of the series, running into a little bit of trouble though!

NA LCS Spring Split Week 1 – Day 2:

Counter Logic Gaming vs. Team Liquid NA LCS Spring Split 2017 Week 1Week 1 | Day 2 – Match #1: Team Logo CLG NA LCS 2017 Counter Logic Gaming vs. Team Logo Liquid NA LCS 2017 Team Liquid

Start Time: January 21th, 12:00 PM PST/ 03:00 PM EST/ 21:00 CET

Counter Logic Gaming managed to avoid any changes to their roster, an extreme comfort between their players has had them performing on a top level for quite some time now and they’re likely to give Team Liquid a hard time. Team Liquid made a few changes, most of which are looking extremely promising, but comparing what’s on paper to performances can be difficult. Will they be able to combat the CLG roster? Make sure you catch the games on Saturday, January 21st, to find out!

Team Logo CLG NA LCS 2017Counter Logic Gaming – Having avoided making changes to their roster they could be in an advantageous position against the majority of teams competing, at least for the first week or so. They’ve had time to build together as a team and practice on what was already a strong foundation. Other teams have had to start from scratch but CLG have experience on their side and it could be exactly what they need to push ahead this season.

Team Logo Liquid NA LCS 2017Team Liquid – TL made a few changes, brought back their star ADC, Piglet, and swapped players from their Team Liquid Academy team. This isn’t such a rough change because both teams have experience with each other, have helped each other grow and know each other very well. The few changes made to the team could push them onto an entirely new level of play and could come to shock us.

Team Liquid’s roster changes look extremely promising and I think they could give CLG a hard time but CLG have the experience and have had significantly more practice together as a team. Counter Logic Gaming are likely to have an advantage in the later stages of the game so TL are going to want to look for earlier engages. If they can get strong early rotations and lane pressure from their jungler they could open up opportunities to pressure objectives fairly quickly, this could slow down the pace in which CLG can climb back into the game and could shut them down. Counter Logic Gaming are going to want to try and equalize jungle pressure and hold out their lanes, if they wait patiently for the middle stages of the game they should be able to find a few strong engagements that will propel them ahead and open up the game for them.

Prediction: Counter Logic Gaming Victory. With significantly more time for practice, an unchanged roster and a fairly strong track record I think Counter Logic Gaming are going to come into this series with phenomenal preparation and will take a step up the ladder. Team Liquid is likely to put up a tough fight but I think CLG will come out on top.

Echo Fox vs. Immortals NA LCS Spring Split 2017 Week 1Week 1 | Day 2 – Match #2: Team Logo Echo Fox NA LCS 2017 Echo Fox vs. Team Logo Immortals NA LCS 2017 Immortals

Start Time: January 21th, 03:00 PM PST/ 06:00 PM EST/ 24:00 CET

Echo Fox have undergone a few changes but in comparison to Immortals it’s nothing. Immortals previous roster slowly crumbled after the end of Season 6 and the organisation was left without a team, only Pobelter remained. There were no hard feelings and IMT quickly pulled together a merry group of players whose talent is impressive. Echo Fox could be facing hard times here but will their new roster hold out? Make sure you tune in on Saturday, January 21st, to see it roll out live!

Team Logo Unicorns of Love EU LCS 2017Echo Fox – Echo Fox only held onto their middle lane player ‘Froggen’ and their ADC. They’ve picked up Looper in the top lane, which looks like an extremely promising change for them. The other changes however, don’t look as fulfilling. Hopefully this new group of players have worked well and practiced hard. They’re about to face an entirely new level of challenging, will their potential show?

Team Logo Immortals NA LCS 2017Immortals – Only Pobelter remained. This wasn’t an issue for Immortals though, after putting on such good performances with their previous roster and proving to be a great organisation they were able to conjure up their new roster fairly quickly. And boy is it stacked with talent. Right off the bat we’ve got Flame in the top lane, assisted by Dardoch taking over the jungle! Pobelter still holds control over their middle lane whilst Cody and Olleh rule over the bottom lane. The biggest issue I see with this roster is the language barrier; hopefully it doesn’t hold them back too much!

On paper it would seem that Immortals have the stronger roster. But with players from multiple different regions speaking multiple different languages they could very quickly run into communication issues due to the language barriers. I think they’re going to have a very dominant early and middle game but during the later stages of the game, when communication and strategy is key, they could fall off. This means Echo Fox are going to want to play a passive style during the earlier stages of the game, which is perfect for them; especially with Froggen, and they’ll want to look for specific engagements around the middle stages of the game. If they play with patience they could find opportunities to fight or control objectives, this is how they’ll push forward during the series. But will it really be that simple? Immortals will be looking to put on strong performances so Echo Fox will need to tread carefully!

Prediction: Immortals Victory. Their line-up looks extremely promising and if they’re able to conquer their communication issues we could be looking at a top standing team from Immortals once again. They’ve got great early game aggression which I think will propel them into a stable lead and will help them rule over this series.

Team EnvyUs vs. FlyQuest NA LCS Spring Split 2017 Week 1
Week 1 | Day 2 – Match #3: Team Logo Envy NA LCS 2017 Team EnVyUs vs. FlyQuest NA LCS 2017 - Logo Fly Quest

Start Time: January 21th, 12:00 PM PST/ 03:00 PM EST/ 21:00 CET

FlyQuest are the new kids on the block, or rather; the old new kids on the block. This team has fought hard to reach this spot and although they technically acquired their place through another teams achievements they were the roster that made it happen. They’ve got a lot of well-known players on their side and they’ll be pulling out all the stops to take down the 6th Place 2016 NA LCS Summer Split team, Team EnVyUs!

Team Logo Envy NA LCS 2017Team EnVyUs – Team EnVyUs have a lot of their original roster intact, their top lane, middle lane and support have stuck with the organisation. Team EnVyUs have turned into a majority South Korean team though! If they work with the same work ethic as those teams and organisations in South Korea then we could be looking at a new powerhouse team. They’ve got the talent but do they have the drive?

FlyQuest NA LCS 2017 - LogoFlyQuest – FlyQuest have an adored team, fan loved already! They’ve got the support from the fans because they worked hard to get here! Not only that, they’ve also got a few extremely popular players in their roster. It’s like looking at Cloud9 in their early days, Hai, LemonNation and Balls are on the team! With the addition of Moon in the jungle and Altec as their ADC we’re looking at a well-rounded and well guided team!

FlyQuest definitely have the veterans experience on their side but if nV are as hard working as their majority then we could be looking at an incredible improvement from them in comparison to last season. FlyQuest are definitely a team that plays around objectives, their macro management and shot calling will be phenomenal and Team EnVyUs will need to find a way around it. This can be achieved through early pressure and gaining a lead through vision control, if they’re able to abuse greater vision control in the earlier stages of the game they should be able to set up opportunities for engagements later on, this will pay off huge for them and could set them up to destroy the game. FlyQuest are going to want to play more slowly, reactive and passively during the earlier stages of the game as their strongest points are during the middle and later stages when they can out strategize their opponents.

Prediction: FlyQuest Victory. I think the significance of their shot calling and macro management shouldn’t be underestimated. With both Hai and LemonNation on the team their macro management should be nearly flawless and I expect that to show during this series.

Team Dignitas vs. Phoenix1 NA LCS Spring Split 2017 Week 1
Week 1 | Day 2 – Match #4: Team Logo Dignitas NA LCS 2017 Team Dignitas vs. Team Logo Phoenix1 NA LCS 2017 Phoenix1

Start Time: January 21th, 03:00 PM PST/ 06:00 PM EST/ 24:00 CET

Dignitas are a veteran team with a lot of history. They were knocked out of the LCS before but after acquiring Apex Gaming they’ve managed to find a position back on the ladder. Will this newly reformed Dignitas be able to hold out against the LCS team now? Or will teams such as Phoenix1 and co. knock them back down! Tune into the games as they go live on Saturday, January 21st, to find out!

Dignitas – Dignitas are now in control of what looks like an extremely promising roster. They’ve got Ssumday in the top lane, Chaser taking control of their jungle and Keane ruling over their middle lane. This triple threat from South Korea is sure to shake a few things up and if they’re having a hard time then LOD and Xpecial in the bottom lane will surely help them out!

Team Logo Phoenix1 NA LCS 2017Phoenix1 – Phoenix1 were left in a difficult position when their roster changed. A lot of talented players left the team but they were able to pick things up again when they acquired ex-Immortals support player Adrian. He’ll be accompanied by Arrow in the bottom lane; Ryu will be taking control of their middle lane and let’s not forget about their top side! Inori will still be roaming their jungle whilst Zig takes hold of their top lane! How much pressure can they push out?

Dignitas definitely look to have the more promising roster, Phoenix1 were barely able to hold onto their position last time. Hopefully for P1 their roster changes have made a big impact on the team! With Adrian and Arrow in the bottom lane I think it’s safe to say there shouldn’t be much trouble on the bottom side of the map but how well can Zig and Inori hold onto the top side against Chaser and Ssumday? It looks like this is going to be a battle of objectives and things could be decided quickly with jungle pressure. If the top laners fall behind then it could spell doom quickly, I expect to see quite a few skirmishes coming out from these teams but who will hold down the objectives properly?

Prediction: Dignitas Victory. Even though the Phoenix1 roster looks more dangerous now, I don’t think P1 will be able to pull off any significant moves to force Dignitas down during this series. They’ll be testing the waters whilst Dignitas become crashing waves and take control of the games along with the series. I think Dig will gain early control and force Phoenix1 into bad positions, giving them the leads they’ll need!

NA LCS Spring Split Week 1 – Day 1:

Team SoloMid vs Cloud9 NA LCS Spring Split 2017 Week 1 Week 1 | Day 1 – Match #1: Team Logo TSM NA LCS 2017 Team SoloMid vs. Team Logo Cloud9 NA LCS 2017 Cloud9

Start Time: January 20th, 03:00 PM PST/ 06:00 PM EST/ 24:00 CET

What an exciting way to kick off the North American League of Legends Champions Series! Veteran teams Cloud9 and Team Solo Mid will be going head to head in a best of 3 series to see who will momentarily hold the top position on the ladder! Both teams have made changes to their roster and we’ll finally get to see if these top teams have been pushing themselves to fight for that top position! They’ll be facing off on Friday, January 20th, so make sure you catch them games as they go live!

Team Logo TSM NA LCS 2017Team Solo Mid – A fan favourite team, they’ve made a roster change that had the world excited and worried at the same time. Doublelift, their previous ADC, has taken a break for the Spring Split so TSM picked up their old ADC, WildTurtle! The reunion of these 2 factors could bring us phenomenal performances and with the aggression being added to the team they might be able to control yet another NA LCS Split.

Team Logo Cloud9 NA LCS 2017Cloud9 – They’ve only made a minor change to their roster and it’s for the betterment of their organisation. They’ve picked up Contractz in the jungle in place of Meteos and the transition was probably a breeze because he’s from their Challenger team! This new talent on their roster could push them to use new ideas and could give them exactly what they need to fight for the top positions on the ladder, but we’ll have to wait and see!

I think Team Solo Mid are at an advantage here, they’ve got a roster stacked with well-known talent and are the champions of the previous NA LCS Split! With more aggression on their bottom side they’ll be able to quickly create and find opportunities on that side of the map that could quickly push them ahead. There are little to no doubts about WildTurtles talent as he’s always been on a top performing team and has often been a huge factor in their victories. Team Solo Mid could find a lead during the earlier stages of the game, even a small lead, and use it to pressure objectives or gain map control. This could quickly force C9 into terrible positions in which TSM can capitalise. To avoid this C9 are going to need to try and pressure for vision earlier in the game and will need to work with available information to pick suitable fights. If C9 can find favourable engagements around the middle stages of the game they could quickly pick apart any composition made by TSM.

Prediction: Team Solo Mid Victory. It’s a little hard to overlook the differences in their rosters. Team Solo Mid’s looks more stable and reliable as their change would be considered an improvement whereas C9’s roster change is a bit more questionable. The new talent could push C9 into a stronger level of play but it comes with a risk and I think TSM are going to take that and turn it against them. I believe C9 will pressure TSM and contest the series but ultimately I expect TSM to take it away.

Echo Fox vs Phoenix1 NA LCS Spring Split 2017 Week 1
Week 1 | Day 1 – Match #2: Team Logo Echo Fox NA LCS 2017 Echo Fox vs. Team Logo Phoenix1 NA LCS 2017 Phoenix1

Start Time: January 20th, 06:00 PM PST/ 09:00 PM EST/ 03:00 CET (next day)

Both of these teams have been left in the dust of their opponents on multiple occasions but have often matched in skill-level. Both teams have also made huge roster changes that could impact the overall quality of these games! We’ll be seeing Echo Fox and Phoenix1 both battle it out with 3 new team members each and the talent is looking surprisingly promising! Don’t forget to tune into the matches as they go live on Friday, January 20th!

Team Logo Unicorns of Love EU LCS 2017Echo Fox – Only keeping their middle laner and ADC, Echo Fox have revamped the majority of their roster. They’ve picked up Looper in the top lane, which looks like an extremely promising change for them. The other changes however, don’t look as fulfilling. Echo Fox have ran into a lot of issues when trying to push their way through the NA LCS but as a new season starts they’re given new opportunities to prove themselves.

Team Logo Phoenix1 NA LCS 2017Phoenix1 – P1 have made changes that look like they could make a phenomenal team for this organisation. Ryu playing their middle lane and getting Adrian, from Immortals, to cover their support role really propels the talent of this team to new heights. They’ve already proven themselves in the Spring Promotion tournament but now it’s the big leagues, will they continue to push forward?

Phoenix1 look to be in an advantageous position here, they’ve played Echo Fox fairly recently and came out very clearly on top of them. The roster was slightly different then but I would consider their new roster a definite improvement. Echo Fox made a few changes of their own but I’m not sure it’ll be enough to break old habits. Echo Fox usually focus a lot around their middle lane and that’s got to stop for them, Ryu will be able to hold his own so Echo Fox could waste a lot of time. Phoenix1 have a phenomenal bottom lane now which will be hard for Echo Fox to match. Echo Fox are going to want to try to build a lead on the top side of the map, this looks to be one of their best bets to push ahead and build enough pressure to shut Phoenix1 down! Phoenix1, if they’re able to hold out until the middle or later stages of the game, should be able to push ahead with strong engagements defined by their support player Adrian; this could push them into a very controlling and formidable position.

Prediction: Phoenix1 Victory. Echo Fox may have made a few changes since they previously lost 0:3 to Phoenix1 but I don’t think their roster changes are impactful enough. They’ve got some fresh talent now but Phoenix1 have formidable talent on their roster. Phoenix1 appear to have a well-rounded roster and on that fact alone I think they’re going to prove themselves of Echo Fox during this series.
