Preview and Predictions:

NA LCS Summer Split Week 1 Day 3 (5th June):

Games are now unfolding and showing us the strength of the teams, some are already on their way to climbing the ladder and are showing phenomenal potential for the split and other teams are already struggling. Today we’ll be choosing 2 focus matches and concluding the remaining 3; we’ll be focusing on Team Solo Mid vs. Team Liquid and Echo Fox vs. Cloud 9. I chose these games because they’ve got teams participating that have shown great potential and they’re also fairly close in skill level in comparison to some of the other games. Don’t forget to tune in on June 5th on BOTH streams!

Apex Gaming vs Counter Logic Gaming NA LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Stage #1 Match #1: Apex Gaming NA LCS Team Logo LoL Apex Gaming vs. CLG NA LCS Team Logo LoL Counter Logic Gaming

Start Time: June 5, 12:00 PM PDT/ 03:00 PM EDT/ 21:00 CEST

Apex managed to pick up their first series victory in the LCS and it was in a fairly dominating fashion! Counter Logic Gaming took a rough hit to the start of their summer split climb by losing to TSM 0:2 however they’ve always been a versatile team so this could be their kick start to climb. I think there could be a few close fights but only one team can really come out on top.

Prediction: Counter Logic Gaming Victory. I think they’ll take the series 2:1, Apex have shown that they can take dominating victories over possible lower tier teams but Counter Logic Gaming are no lower tier team. I think CLG are going to do the necessary research and play to their strengths without giving away advantages, setting themselves up for some strong victories but I don’t think it’ll be too easy.

Echo Fox vs Cloud9 NA LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Stage #1 Match #2: Echo Fox NA LCS Team Logo LoL Echo Fox vs. Cloud9 NA LCS Team Logo LoL Cloud9

Start Time: June 5, 03:00 PM PDT/ 06:00 PM EDT/ 00:00 CEST next day

Echo Fox have shown great mastery of understanding their strengths and how they can play to them, playing out their games slowly and waiting for their champions and compositions to scale is why they were able to take down P1 but it’s going to be more of a challenge against the more experience Cloud9 roster.

Cloud9 may have lost their series against Immortals but I think they’re at a bit of an advantage here because their play style is often relentless in the earlier stages of the game; this could shut down the changes for Echo Fox to scale and give C9 a significant lead.

Cloud9 NA LCS Team Logo LoLCloud 9 should stick to their more reliable compositions and ones where they’re able to both pressure the early stages of the game and scale for the later parts. I expect to see a Maokai or Trundle in the top lane paired with a Rek’sai or Gragas. Their middle lane has been extremely diverse but I’ll be looking for a control mage like Azir, Lissandra or Viktor. Their bottom lane has favoured Karma as their support thus far and I think it’ll be paired with a Lucian or Sivir. Once they’re on the rift they’re going to want to great a wall of vision around the river and push it into parts of their opponents jungle, this will let them take aggressive movements to try and build a lead in the earlier stages of the game which will be crucial. Echo Fox have shown that they can play from behind as long as they’re given time to scale so Cloud9 are going to want to have strong control over the drakes which they’ve already proven to have; this will give them good opportunities to take favourable fights and gain that lead that they’re going to need. Once they’re able to build a lead, even if it’s small, they’re going to want to take skirmishes and rotate as a team to either pick off opponents or pressure objectives, starting this as quickly as possible will reduce the time that FOX has to prepare or scale thus giving C9 a significant advantage. Playing for early game advantages is how I expect C9 to take leads during this series and they could be significant enough to give those easier victories and possibly the series.

Echo Fox NA LCS Team Logo LoLI expect Echo Fox to try and take hold of the Swain pick in the middle lane and if it’s unavailable then Viktor or Azir will be reliable fall-back champions. Their jungler has shown that he’s capable on Kha’zix and I’d like to see it show up again but Rek’sai and Gragas are just as likely. The top lane of FOX is versatile, being able to counter-pick tanks with Fiora and playing it with style or fixating on defending his team on a tank such as Maokai. On the bottom side of the map I think the FOX duo lane will try and pick up a Karma support paired with a Sivir or Lucian. Echo Fox are going to need to build a quick and reliable defensive line of vision across the river and around the lanes. I think there will be a top lane focus in the earlier stages of the game so counter ganking is going to need to be prepared. If they’re not confident in their available vision then they’re going to want to take their rotations slowly and stick to scaling and working towards the later stages of the game. If they fall into early skirmishes then grouping quickly could give them an early lead but from the style we’ve seen from Echo Fox I don’t expect the action to kick in until after 20mins. If they keep up a reliable defensive line of vision and focus heavily on farming, avoiding their opponents aggressive early movements then they should be able to scale and take similar victories to their games against P1. This will set them up nicely to contest the series.

Prediction: Cloud9 Victory. I think Echo Fox are going to put up a good fight and take a game in the series but Cloud9 will ultimately come out on top. The early aggressive movements from Cloud9 could completely shut down the scaling of Echo Fox and it’s something to be feared, I think their play style gives them advantage enough over FOX to take the series.

Team SoloMid vs Team Liquid NA LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Stage #2 Match #1: TSM NA LCS Team Logo LoL Team SoloMid vs. Team Liquid NA LCS Team Logo LoL Team Liquid

Start Time: June 5, 12:00 PM PDT/ 03:00 PM EDT/ 21:00 CEST

Team Solo Mid got to show off their new support player and they truly thrived against Counter Logic Gaming, taking a 2:0 victory and a clean series from them. Team Liquid had a bit of a hard time against Team Envy so I wouldn’t favour them here. I think there are going to be a few highlight moments appearing as these 2 veteran teams face off!

Team Solo Mid are at quite a clear advantage here, not only are Team Liquid looking like a bit of a mess but Team Solo Mid have adapted extremely well to their small roster change and everyone on the team is pulling their own weight to propel TSM into leads which give them victories.

Logo of LCS NA Team TSMTeam Solo Mid had a few phenomenal performances on typical meta champions so we’re likely to see the Maokai or Ekko in the top lane paired with a Graves or Kindred in the jungle. Their middle lane has adapted nicely to the changes and has picked up a few of the favoured control mages such as Viktor along with the likes of a Zilean that we could see once again. The TSM duo lane has picked up and worked with Karma support nicely but I think we’re more likely to see the Braum or an Alistar show up for them; paired with a Lucian or Sivir. Once they’re on the rift they’re going to want to pressure the missing communication from TL and get some aggressive vision on the rift, using this aggressive vision they should be able to pressure objectives more easily and I think they’re favoured in team fights because of their better management. They should force skirmishes to burn TL out and then pressure as a team to control portions of the map, in these portions they can pick off opponents and control objectives. I think if they can force themselves onto their opponents they’ll be able to come out on top because of their better team management and their better use of map pressure. By pressuring the map as a team whilst forcing skirmishes I think they’ll be able to build leads throughout the series and take their earned victories.

Team Liquid - NA LCS Team LogoTeam Liquid have stuck to a consistent Ekko pick in the top lane but it’s not had the best performances for them so I’d like to see them switch it up with a Maokai or Swain. The middle lane of TL has worked nicely on both control mages an assassin so I’ll be looking out for a LeBlanc, Kassadin or Fizz; the middle lane will be covered nicely by a Kindred, Rek’sai or Graves in the jungle. Their bottom lane is likely to pick up Ezreal or Lucian and pair it with a Nami or Karma. After they’ve built their composition they’re going to want to build a strong defensive line of vision throughout the river and in their lanes, possibly placing some around their jungle entrances to avoid aggressive counter jungling in the earlier stages of the game. They’re going to want to scale and rotate their vision around objectives so they can pick their fights carefully. If they can choose good fights then they’ll be able to accumulate a lead which will be difficult for their opponents to control. Using this lead they’re going to want to pressure the side lanes before picking a certain opportunity to strike, trying to maximise their lead and gain. If they play it in a control style at a slow pace then they’ll be difficult to overcome. Slow pace methodical style of play with rotations, vision control and a focus on objectives is how they’re going to gain leads and take victories.

Prediction: Team Solo Mid Victory. I think they’re going to take it fairly convincingly, TL had trouble against Team Envy because of their communication issues and I think it’s only going to get more difficult for them here. I expect TSM to take it 2:0.

Immortals vs Phoenix1 NA LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Stage #2 Match #2: Team Immortals NA LCS Team Logo LoL Immortals vs. Phoenix1 NA LCS Team Logo Phoenix1

Start Time: June 5, 03:00 PM PDT/ 06:00 PM EDT/ 00:00 CEST next day

Immortals had a good first day on the rift, taking a fairly convincing victory over Cloud9 although they dropped a single game. I don’t think this game will change the outcome of this series too much as Immortals look significantly stronger than P1. Phoenix1 don’t look too rough but when facing off against a top performing team they’re going to have an extremely hard time.

Prediction: Immortals Victory. I think they’ll come out on top of the series fairly convincingly with a 2:0 victory. They’ve shown greater current strength and can be extremely dominating; meaning Phoenix 1 will have an extremely difficult time gaining and maintaining a lead.

NA LCS Summer Split Week 1 Day 2 (4th June):

We’ve kicked off the NA LCS Summer Split with 2 matches already and the excitement is just beginning. On the 2nd day of the NA LCS we’ll be having 2 concurrent live streams; Echo Fox vs. Phoenix1 followed by Apex Gaming vs. NRG Esports will be played on the 2nd live steam. The 1st live stream, where I expect there to be a larger viewership, will kick off with Cloud9 vs. Immortals quickly taken over by the new Team Envy vs. Team Liquid. I’ll be doing a more in depth analysis for 2 of the games with the remaining ones being concluded in smaller paragraphs. Make sure you tune in on June 4th to catch these games as they’re rolling out, try not to miss them!

C9 vs IMT NA LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Week 1 | Day 2 – Stage #1 Match #1: Cloud9 NA LCS Team Logo LoL Cloud9 vs. Team Immortals NA LCS Team Logo LoL Immortals

Start Time: June 4, 12:00 PM PDT/ 03:00 PM EDT/ 21:00 CEST

This is a match I’m excited for, possibly more than the TSM vs. CLG game that’s already played out. This is because of the changes that C9 underwent along with their boot-camping and the potential they could be bringing into this Summer Split. They’ve made, arguably, the strongest roster changes over the break and have put in a significant amount of effort to improve and come into this split with strong chances at coming out at the top. Immortals had a fantastic spring split but were caught off guard as it was coming to a close, losing the playoffs and having a few of their weaknesses shown en masse.

I think Cloud 9 are at a small advantage here, Immortals were a great team and looked practically unbeatable which was reflected by their win-rate during the spring split but after teams discovered a way around their strengths they started to get abused. I think with the additional talent on the Cloud9 roster along with all of the efforts gone into improving and working things out as a team that they’re my favourite to come out on top here.

Immortals NA LCS Team Logo LoLImmortals are still stacked with talent, their spring split should be far from ignored because of just how dominating it was but their fall at the end was significant. They were a favourite to take 1st place during the spring split but fell drastically and barely made the top 3; it’s debatable that they only got that because of strong seeding! They’re going to need to focus on getting their top laner on a comfortable and reliable champion that suits the team because if that lane falls apart then so does the jungle and possibly the rest of the team. I think they’re going to adapt nicely to the meta changes and they should thrive with the objective changes because they’re phenomenal at skirmishes however the new Cloud9 roster is going to make this extremely challenging because of the micro and mechanical talent of the players.

Cloud9 NA LCS Team Logo LoLCloud9 have a shockingly good roster right now and their individual merit is enough to make me think this is going to be a top team this split; they are however missing their shot caller unless he’s being substituted back into the supporting role. Their returning jungler ‘Meteos’ was previously a shot-caller for the team and his team previously thrived with him, this could be a similar situation and if that’s the case then many teams should be worried because their roster is truly formidable. They’ve spared to expense when it comes to team practice and I have no doubt that they’re cohesive and work well together; this is visible in watching their gameplay over the break and even how well their out of game relationships are.

I think this game is going to be decided by a few fights during the series, possibly a few early skirmishes that give away a lead. Both teams know how to control and adapt to a lead to make their opponents crumble, this will be used and whichever team falls into a lead will be able to create unbearable amounts of pressure to take wins.

Prediction: Cloud9 Victory. I think they’ll take the series 2-1. Immortals are far from a bad team, they’re still exceptional and I have no doubt that they’ve worked on their issues over the break. All of the players are extremely passionate and want to win but It’s apparent that Cloud9 are in a similar boat and I think they’ve got the stronger roster to come out on top.

Fox vs Phoenix1 NA LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Week 1 | Day 2 – Stage #2 Match #1: Echo Fox NA LCS Team Logo LoL Echo Fox vs. Phoenix1 NA LCS Team Logo Phoenix1

Start Time: June 4, 12:00 PM PDT/ 03:00 PM EDT/ 21:00 CEST

Phoenix1 finally got around to announcing their roster just a week before the start of the Summer Split; this creates a huge issue for the team as they could be extremely un-practiced in comparison to a lot of the other competing teams. Their roster is definitely filled with talent but if it can’t flourish then Echo Fox are definitely at an advantage here.

The lack of practice for Phoenix1 could definitely bring them down but their roster is filled with highly adaptable players and there are a few possible substitutes they can make throughout the split, this however won’t help them this early on in the series and as Echo Fox are holding onto a long standing roster I believe they are at quite a clear advantage.

Both teams are likely to fight over current power picks and there have been a lot of changes over the patches; we could be looking at control mages making a comeback over this split such as Malzahar and Anivia as they’ve seen an increase in both strength and play. The same goes for Swain in the top lane but I think we’re still likely to see Ekko and Poppy there until the split progresses. For the jungle both teams are likely to lean towards the marksman in the jungle because it’s still a preference across the regions, Kindred and Graves still show great proficiency in the jungle and are likely to still be contested picks. If they’re not picked up then Elise has been a regular comfortable fall-back champion. The bottom lane has stayed pretty consistent with Ezreal and Lucian but we have been seeing more champions appear such as Kalista and Caitlyn which have been paired with a few fresh faces like Nami and Karma; this however does not negate the popularity of previous regular picked champions such as Braum, Alistar and Bard.

With all of this taken into consideration and the changes made across the map I think one of these teams is going to fall into a fairly early lead, Dragon is certainly going to be a more contested objective as some of them are extremely valuable; we could be looking at more skirmishes across the map but not too much has changed in terms of coordination.

Prediction: Echo Fox Victory. I think they’re going to come out on top because of their significantly larger amount of practice but with players being able to switch between the games during the series things could be shaken up a bit. Echo Fox might be at an advantage here but things can occur this early in the split to throw them off; I’ll be looking at a 3:1 victory for them.

Envy vs Liquid NA LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Week 1 | Day 2 – Stage #1 Match #2: Team Envy NA LCS Logo Team Envy vs. Team Liquid NA LCS Team Logo LoL Team Liquid

Start Time: June 4, 03:00 PM PDT/ 06:00 PM EDT/ 00:00 CEST next day

Team Liquid is in a bit of a predicament at the moment because there’s tension around their top laner; depending on how it plays out they could run into trouble or push the limits of NV here. Team Envy has an extremely talented roster but I wouldn’t regard it much stronger than TL’s. I think this is going to be one of the closer series’ of the day and it’s going to be decided either by a few mistakes or team fights falling in favour of the more cohesive team.

Prediction: Team Liquid Victory. If all things work out for their top laner I think they’ll be able to take this series 2-1. Team Envy could come as a challenge as they have extremely strong players on the team but it’s not something TL hasn’t had to do in the past, pushing past strong teams to come out on top. This is going to be decided by the outcome of their top lane player Dardoch and the final decision on if he should play or not, along with any mistakes that might show up in the earlier stages of the game.

Week 1 | Day 2 – Stage #2 Match #2: Apex Gaming NA LCS Team Logo LoL Apex Gaming vs. NRG Esports NA LCS Team Logo NRG Esports

Start Time: June 4, 03:00 PM PDT/ 06:00 PM EDT/ 00:00 CEST next day

NRG Esports made a few changes to their roster which could give them better chances this split but I’m not overly confident in them making it to the top of the ladder this split, a similar thing could be said for Apex which makes this match fairly interesting. Both teams have talented rosters but it’s as if they’re reaching their potential already, NRG have more to work with but Apex has a huge amount of experience behind them. I think this is going to be a fairly interesting series and one that will give us a good idea about the strength of not only these 2 teams but other NA teams also.

Prediction: Apex Gaming Victory. I think Apex is going to take this series 2-1, with a bit of trouble. Both player rosters look fairly close in skill levels and it’s going to be based on how well they’re able to adapt to their opponents. This is likely to come easier to Apex as they’ve got an extremely strong staff behind them along with experienced veteran players to guide them.

NA LCS Summer Split Week 1 Day 1 (3rd June) :

We’re jumping right into the action as we kick off the NA LCS Summer Split! On Friday 3rd of June there will be a late stream to showcase the highly anticipated Team Solo Mid vs. Counter Logic Gaming match which will be followed by the new Team Envy vs. NRG Esports; I hope you’re ready to stay up late because you’re certainly going to want to catch these games!

TSM vs CLG NA LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Week 1 | Day 1 – Match #1: TSM NA LCS Team Logo LoL Team SoloMid vs. CLG NA LCS Team Logo LoL Counter Logic Gaming

Start Time: June 3, 05:00 PM PDT/ 08:00 PM EDT/ 02:00 CEST next da

Team Solo Mid underwent a small change over the course of the MSI break, their world class Support player decided to head back home to the EU LCS so BioFrost was picked up in his place; who’s that? You might be thinking. Well, he’s been playing with the team regularly and has shown great comfort with the players, he’s a highly skilled player who you’re definitely going to want to keep an eye on. Counter Logic Gaming haven’t made any roster changes so they’re definitely the more practiced of the 2 teams but with how long it’s been it’s probably irrelevant. Let’s crack on with the analysis.

There have been a few changes over the patches that have changed the contested picks, Swain has already had a competitive appearance in the top lane and with how strong he is whilst in capable hands I expect him to be picked or possibly banned; Trundle can work quite well against him so that’s another fairly fresh appearance already. The junglers have stayed relatively consistent with Kindred and Graves similarly to how Marksman picks have hardly changed. We’re probably going to see Ezreal, Kalista, Lucian and Caitlyn show up throughout the series but the support picks have slowly become more flexible with champions such as Nami and Karma showing up; they’ve not taken over the current favourites though so a Bard, Alistar and Braum are still the most likely faces to show up.

With how both teams have been performing recently, taking in their most recent competitive matches also, I think Counter Logic Gaming are at an advantage here but it’s difficult to come to a conclusion as to just how large that advantage is. They’ve had more practice together and have great team cohesion whereas TSM have had to build that with a new player but with the extensive changes to their staff TSM could already be on a similar level.

Prediction: Team Solo Mid Victory. Coming to this conclusion was quite surprising; Counter Logic Gaming were the stronger team in the spring split but TSM have undergone a few changes that I think will bring them great improvements. Because of this I think we’re going to be looking at an extended series where Team Solo Mid comes out on top.

Envy vs NRG NA LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Week 1 | Day 1 – Match #2: Team Envy NA LCS Logo Team EnVy vs. NRG Esports NA LCS Team Logo LoL NRG Esports

Start Time: June 3, 08:00 PM PDT/ 11:00 PM EDT/ 05:00 CEST next day

Team Envy are a fresh team but their roster is one that should be feared, they’re stacked with talent and a very adaptable roster that has had time to practice and synergise which would spell early trouble for NRG Esports. NRG made a few changes to their roster but, personally, I wouldn’t really consider them improvements and as NRG had trouble in the spring split I don’t think things are going to get any easier for them.

With very little information being available on how these teams will play, their new styles and how well they player together instead of just individually it’s fairly difficult to come to a conclusion as to who will come out on top but because of an apparent difference in the team player’s individual skill levels I think Team Envy are at an advantage here; their bottom lane, top lane and jungle are all better individually than their opponents, in my opinion, and the other players are at least equal in skill level. This sets up Envy nicely to make a few aggressive moves in the earlier / middle stages of the game to take a lead but there’s little evidence on how they handle a lead and if they can push with it. Their top laner can create huge amounts of pressure when he’s got a lead but this could easily be shut down if the remaining team members are sticking to a passive style of play. NRG Esports still have play-makes on their team and this could set them up nicely to catch out opponents, making surprising plays and rotations or even start abrupt team fights in their favour. Team Envy are going to need to keep strong lines of vision which will progress across the map and I think NRG are going to go for a more aggressive warding style to create pressure. There could be a lot of contention around Dragon with the changes, depending on which ones spawn, so I’ll be looking for gold leads to be made around that.

Until there are matches available where we can gather more information on the teams some of these predictions will be based on the individual players in each team opposed to the entire team itself.

Prediction: Team Envy Victory. I think their individual player skill is great and they’re going to be under pressure here to show up and build a name for their organisation in the League of Legends Esports scene. With how much time and effort they’ve been able to put into growing as a team I think they’re at a large enough advantage to take a convincing series against NRG here and will be looking for a 2:0.
