Preview and Predictions

EU LCS Summer Split Week 1 Day 2:

After an exciting day already ending we’re beginning to understand the true strength of a few of these teams, there was a general idea of who would be the better teams but there have already been a few surprises. We’ll be looking into 2 of the 5 games more extensively with the remaining matches being concluded; on day 2 we will be focusing on Splyce vs. Roccat along with Unicorns of Love vs. Origen. I chose these games because after the 1st day I believe these teams competing against each other are close in skill level and are sure to bring us some exciting matches. Don’t forget to tune in on June 3rd!

Week 1 | Day 2 – Stage #1 Match #1: Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoL Splyce vs. ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoL ROCCAT

Start Time: June 3, 08:00 AM PDT / 11:00 AM EDT / 17:00 CEST

Splyce had a pretty good 1st day of the Summer Split, they managed to take away a victory against VIT and tie the series, and this still sets them ahead of a few teams as far as the ladder is concerned. Roccat played through a similar situation and swiped a victory away from H2k so they’re in a tied position with Splyce as for now.

Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoLSplyce is still favouring Ekko in the top lane but I’d like to see Swain make an appearance from them because it’s a denial pick from Roccat who have already shown comfort on that champion in the middle lane. Swain can also be used as a flexible pick to try and sway their opponents into a favourable match-up. Their middle lane could incorporate a Swain pick along with Viktor and Vladimir as all of those picks have strong wave clear, control and some form of utility / sustain. As for their bottom lane they’ve favoured Lucian, which is still a strong champion to rely on, along with support champions such as Bard and Trundle however I’d like to see Alistar show up for them. As for the jungle they’re likely to pick up current common picks such as Kindred, Graves, Gragas or Elise. Roccat have proven to be a strong team and dominant at times, which is a clear contrast to their performances last split; Splyce are going to need to handle with care in the earlier stages of the game. Roccat had shown in their 1st game of the split that when they take a lead they’re able to push hard and pressure with it which could get Splyce into a bad situation, they’re going to want a defensive line of wards and to only take favourable skirmishes. Avoiding risks in the earlier stages of the game could play out well for them with a later scaling composition; this will allow them to simply surpass their opponents through time. If they can hold out I think they can certainly take the game and series.

ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoLRoccat will want to try and pick up Swain as a flex pick, for either the middle or top lane. This gives them options to pick favourable match ups for multiple lanes so they could fit in a Fizz or Ekko as other flexible picks along with Viktor for the middle lane and Maokai for the top lane. Their jungler has preferred the more aggressive champion picks that can farm and duel in the earlier stages of the game so I’ll be expecting a Kindred or Nidalee to show up for them. Their bottom lane has already picked a large variety of champions but they’ve shown greater performance on Jhin paired with Thresh which I would like to see once again. Roccat are going to want to turn the aggression on early, a deep line of vision through the jungle and in parts of their opponents jungle will allow them to counter jungle and counter gank; opening up opportunities for them to take a lead and run away the game. They’ve already shown that they can take complete control of a lead and that they’re both dangerous and difficult to control when it gets to that point so they’re going to want to focus in propelling ahead through aggressive movements and skirmishes achieved through picking off opponents or forcing their opponents into situations that still favour Roccat; this can be done through manipulating vision or simply through their champion picks. If they manage to control the earlier stages of the game then laning and slowly taking control shouldn’t be a problem for them which will make taking their opponents base that much easier.

Prediction: Tied Victory. I think both Roccat and Splyce are going to come out of this series with at least 1 victory; both teams have shown that they can shine and they appear to be on a similar skill level at the moment. I think both teams are going to have shining moments and some upsetting ones, this could certainly be a roller coaster.

Week 1 | Day 2 -Stage #1 Match #2: Giants EU LCS Team Logo LoL Giants vs. G2 Esports EU LCS Team Logo LoL G2 Esports

Start Time: June 3, 10:00 AM PDT / 01:00 PM EDT / 19:00 CEST

Giants have definitely improved since the spring split but they’re still having trouble keeping up, G2 Esports on the other hand have shown that not only did they deserve to sit at the top of the ladder during the spring split but they’ll likely hold a strong position this split too. G2 look favoured so far but it’s still early in the split and Giants could pull something surprising out.

Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. I think they’ll take the series fairly handily; they’re strong and have shown that they’ve improved since the MSI incident along with improvements from the spring split. I’ll be expecting some large gold leads to accumulate and some dominating victories.

Week 1 | Day 2 -Stage #1 Match #3: H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoL H2K Gaming vs. FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo FC Schalke 04

Start Time: June 3, 12:00 PM PDT / 03:00 PM EDT / 21:00 CEST

H2k had a harder time with Roccat than I had expected but with the changes they made it could have been expected, along with the Roccat improvements. FC Schalke 04 really dove into this split with a strong start and could bring a lot of issues to H2k; I think it could be fairly back and forth but FC Shalke 04 look like the stronger team after day 1, can H2k prove themselves here?

Prediction: FC Schalke 04 Victory. I think we’re going to see a lot more from both of these teams, strengths and weaknesses will shine but I think FC Schalke 04 are going to come out on top after a lot of fighting.

Week 1 | Day 2 -Stage #2 Match #1: Unicorns of Love EU LCS Team Logo LoL  Unicorns of Love vs. Origen EU LCS Team Logo LoL Origen

Start Time: June 3, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT / 17:00 CEST

Origen came crashing down on their 1st day, unable to take a single victory from G2 and I honestly thought they’d have a good kick start to their season but it shouldn’t get them down. G2 were the spring split champions and they’ve come into this season strong so there’s no reason why Origen couldn’t have fallen there. Unicorns of Love crashed during day 1 and fell to FC Schalke 04 who looked surprisingly dominating for a fresh team. I think Unicorns of Love could pick themselves back up but they’re going to need to take at least 1 victory here.

Logo of LCS EU Team Unicorns of LoveUnicorns of Love are going to need to build a solid composition here, the compositions they’ve been using haven’t exactly been bad but they’ve been unable to thrive. I think they should pick up a few different picks in the bottom lane such as Lucian with Taric or pairing a Braum with that Twitch. As for their junglers they’re on the right track, Kindred is a good choice but Graves might be more reliable for them. Their top lane is comfortable on the Ekko and Maokai they’re just going to need to utilise them more often and play to their strengths. Their middle lane has shown comfort on control mages such as Viktor and Azir, which I expect to show up for them once again along with a possible Swain lock-in or flex for the top lane. Once they’re on the rift they’re going to want to stay defensive in the earlier stages of the game, trying not to give away a gold lead and staying on an equal level as possible. This means keeping a strong line of vision through the river and around their lanes, this should keep them safe from any deceptive or dangerous moves by their opponents and will let them scale to focus on team fighting and objectives. Their composition will thrive in choke points so they’re going to need to pick their fighting positions carefully but if they pull it off they can surprise their opponents with huge amounts of damage and area control. Pulling off a similar style of play could have them thriving throughout games and especially this series.

Origen - EU LCS Team LogoOrigen are going to want to pick champions that they’re comfortable on and that they know can shine in the right situations. I’m a bit conflicted about their Fizz in the top lane but it’s certainly shown strength, if they can get into split-pushing situations for gain vision control I can see it being a thriving pick however I’d prefer to see a more consistent Maokai or Ekko, possibly even Lissandra. Their jungler has picked a few champions that are strong at the moment but has been unable to impact the game quickly enough to propel the team ahead, they’re going to want to keep the Elise pick possible but a Kindred or Graves is probably better for overall impact. Their middle lane has thrown out a Viktor and Varus but I’ll keep the Varus off the table for now, keep the Viktor as an option and throw in an Azir for strong control in team fights with options to pick off or displace their opponents. Their bottom lane has picked typical champions with Corki and Lucian but I think a Caitlyn instead of the Corki could be stronger; their support picks have been good but unable to have impact. I don’t think that’s a problem with the picks but how they’re utilizing them. Once they’re on the rift they’re going to need to find a way to truly work to their champion’s strengths and to work within the teams comfort; to do this they’re going to need to get a safe or possible aggressive line of vision so they can pick off opponents, pick favourable skirmishes and push their opponents into weak positions and break them. If they can keep up strong and aggressive lines of vision they’ll be able to find ways to push through their opponents defences, this is where they can utilize their champions to gain a lead. Once they have a lead their composition should allow them to thrive where they can dive and push turrets along with pushing their opponents back and making their way into the opponent’s base. It could be a slow process to begin with but I imagine the game becoming volatile fairly quickly. If they can adapt to their opponents movements they should be able to catch them out, gain a lead and force themselves into a winning position. Following a similar strategy should open up their options to take this series.

Prediction: Tied Victory. As much as I would love to be able to side with a single team here to take both wins I think it’s going to be fairly equal, UoL have shown strength in places along with weakness much like Origen and I believe both teams can take a win here but if 1 of the teams were to come out ahead I’d imagine it being Origen.

Week 1 | Day 2 -Stage #2 Match #2: Vitality EU LCS Team Logo LoL Vitality vs. Fnatic EU LCS Team Logo LoL Fnatic

Start Time: June 3, 10:00 AM PDT / 01:00 PM EDT / 19:00 CEST

I think this is going to be one of the closer series’ of the day, Fnatic have shown phenomenal strength and confidence and I think it’s going to carry on over from their day 1 victories. Team Vitality had a bit of a harder time against Splyce and that could be considered a bit troubling for them but they’ve certainly got what it takes to tie or even take this series.

Prediction: Fnatic Victory. Comparing the 2 teams this early in the split is difficult but from what we’ve seen Fnatic are more confident in their plays and know how to control a gold lead whereas Team Vitality have trouble crawling back from a deficit. I think Fnatic could have a bit of trouble but will ultimately take the series.

EU LCS Summer Split Week 1 Day 1:

Excitement is exploding as we’re heading into the first week of the EU LCS, kicking things off with what I would consider one of the most exciting matches of the split! Origen vs. G2 Esports is bound to be an amazing match to start of the split and it’s followed by phenomenal talent going head to head so make sure you tune in on June 2nd to catch the games as they’re rolling out! I’ll be focusing on 2 of the 5 games and quickly concluding the remaining ones, the focus matches will be Origen vs. G2 Esports and H2k vs. Roccat! I chose these games because of changes they’ve recently made along with the possibilities of being the most exciting matches of the day.

Origen vs G2Esports LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Week 1 | Day 1 – Stage #1 Match #1: Origen EU LCS Team Logo LoL Origen vs. G2 Esports EU LCS Team Logo LoL G2 Esports

Start Time: June 2, 08:00 AM PDT / 11:00 AM EDT / 17:00 CEST

After both of these teams have made changes I couldn’t be more excited about their match-up. Origen could have access to the most feared and strongest bottom lane in all of Europe now but it’s going to be a difficult match up when going against the new bottom lane of G2 which is the previous bottom lane of Origen. I have no doubt that this match is going to be phenomenal but it’s certainly a difficult one to analyse.

G2 Esports - EU LCS team LogoG2 Esports had a really rough time at MSI but they admitted to vacating instead of taking time to practice and prepare, this left them behind in meta changes and also in terms of knowing their opponents strategies; this definitely isn’t going to happen at the beginning of the summer split as I’m sure they’re going to be completely ready. With both of these teams having roster changes I can assure you that they’re doing whatever they possibly can to synergise, this will give them the kick start to the split that they need.

Origen - EU LCS Team LogoOrigen have played a strategic style in the past where their early game was weak, this leaves them open for early skirmish advantages to be gained by G2 but only if they operate in a similar manner to the spring split. It’s likely that with the ex-Origen bottom lane players now joining G2, they’re going to know a lot of their strategies and understand how to play against them; something similar can be said about Origen now having access to the ex-G2 Support player.

This best-of-2 series is going to be decided by how well these teams choose their fights, early skirmishes are likely to go in favour of G2 but anything after that is up for grabs; I think Origen are still going to be the stronger candidates for split pushing and catching out their opponents with abuse of vision but if both teams are playing smart then this match could play out extremely slowly.

Prediction: Origen Victory. They’re going to come out looking like the stronger team, they’ve got a well adaptable set of players which will let their bottom lane thrive; this is a different case for G2 where their bottom lane might feel a bit starved of resources compared to when they were on Origen. I think this is going to come as a tipping point around the middle and later stages of the game. Origen 2-0.

H2K vs Roccat LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Week 1 | Day 1 – Stage #2 Match #1: H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoL H2K Gaming vs. ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoL ROCCAT

Start Time: June 2, 08:00 AM PDT / 11:00 AM EDT / 17:00 CEST

H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoLH2k made a minor change to their roster but it could be considered an improvement, not because of individual player skill but because of a change in play style and the possible adaptions that H2k can make. Roccat didn’t have a strong performance during the spring split but they’ve made significant changes to their roster which I would consider big improvements, they have a stronger bottom and top lane which can really increase the reliability and consistency of the team. This doesn’t change the other players however so they could still feel into a bit of trouble, this is why I think H2k are at an advantage here.

Roccat stand better chances now in comparison to last split, they’ve got a stronger roster and H2k might be adapting badly to a slightly more passive play style; this won’t make things much easier though because H2k have higher individual player skill in my opinion.

ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoLRoccat are likely to pick a few early skirmishes and if they go well then they could be set up nicely to control the game slowly; fights around dragon spawns could be more likely with the changes and if Roccat can hold onto a strong line of vision then they could hold back H2k and contest the game. H2k can adapt to this play style with their new found strength, control those early skirmishes and turn the game on its head which I think could be a likely outcome. Roccat have had plenty of time to practice and adapt to their new roster along with analysing and adapting to the changing meta but I think it favours H2k more here. Roccat would hold more strength in their reliability; as long as they’ve been working on cohesion they should be able to take fights in the later stages of the game and come out on top, working on their early game will be necessary as they’re going to want to avoid falling to an early deficit so they can use their strengths to thrive.

Prediction: H2k Victory. I think they’ll take the series 2-0. Roccat had an extremely weak spring split and although their roster has improved I can’t see the changes covering their weakest aspects; H2k should be able to exploit these and come to a lead in the middle phases of the game and they’ll excel whilst in a lead.

Splyce vs Vitality LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Week 1 | Day 1 – Stage #2 Match #2: Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoL Splyce vs. Vitality EU LCS Team Logo LoL Vitality

Start Time: June 2, 10:00 AM PDT / 01:00 PM EDT / 19:00 CEST

Vitality are heading into this split with a hit or miss discussion around them, they’re either going to perform extremely well against the other improving teams because of their few changes or it’s going to have a negative impact on their performances. Splyce had an extremely tough spring split where they fell into the summer promotion tournament but proved their strength by working their way back; this match-up certainly doesn’t favour them though.

Prediction: Team Vitality Victory. I think they’ll go 2-0 here because they have a significantly better history as a team; their players are stronger or on an equal level individually and with their few changes they should be able to bring a mass of improvements to take the summer split by storm.

S04 vs UOL LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Week 1 | Day 1 – Stage #1 Match #2: FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo FC Schalke 04 vs. Unicorns of Love EU LCS Team Logo LoL  Unicorns of Love

Start Time: June 2, 10:00 AM PDT / 01:00 PM EDT / 19:00 CEST

FC Schalke 04 have a surprisingly strong player roster and with the Unicorns of Love having trouble with junglers they might be in a good position to start the summer split off strong. Unicorns of Love may have had jungler troubles in the past but now they have an extremely talented player covering the role; with the other roster changes they could have a really strong showing here but it’s going to come as a challenge. Both teams look fairly equal but their cohesion will be tested and someone has to come out on top.

Prediction: Tied series. I think both teams are going to come out of this best-of-2 with a victory under their belt. Both player rosters are looking strong, even better for Unicorns of Love in my opinion, but until they’ve shown what they can do they’re stuck looking equal and this could be bad news for both of them.

Fnatic vs Giants LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 1

Week 1 | Day 1 – Stage #1 Match #3: Fnatic EU LCS Team Logo LoL Fnatic vs. Giants EU LCS Team Logo LoL Giants

Start Time: June 2, 12:00 PM PDT / 03:00 PM EDT / 21:00 CEST

This was a match I wanted to go into extensively but it can be summed up fairly quickly; Fnatic have their world class support player back and he’s more than comfortable, the team Is going to thrive with him and with Fnatic being an extremely strong European team I think they’re at a significant advantage here. Giants have made a few changes and I think they’re better for it, they might challenge a few of the teams here such as Unicorns of Love and Splyce but I think Fnatic are clear victors here.

Prediction: Fnatic Victory. I think they’ll take the series 2-0, Fnatic have a history of strong performances and their roster has only improved. Giants’ roster is still questionable and they’ve had a lot of trouble in the past which I think is going to stick around for a bit longer.
