Preview and Predictions

EU LCS Summer Split Week 9 – Day 2:

Week 9 Day 1 of the EU LCS wasn’t exactly surprising but I’ll be damned if there weren’t some exciting moments. The reunion of H2k and their previous marksman player kicking off to a great start is always good. For day 2 of the EU LCS we’ll be taking a deeper look into FC Schalke 04 vs. Team Vitality followed by the final game of the EU LCS round-robin, G2 Esports vs. Fnatic. Make sure you catch the games as they’re the closing games of the EU LCS!

Giants vs. Roccat EU LCS Summer Split Week 9

Week 9 | Day 2 – Match #1: Giants EU LCS Team Logo LoL Giants vs. ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoL ROCCAT

Start Time: July 31, 03:00 AM PDT/ 06:00 AM EDT/ 12:00 CEST

Head to head record: Giants 1:0 Roccat

Roccat are certainly in the more difficult position to get ahead in this series but they’ve proven previously that they’re up to the challenge and if Giants show any form of inconsistent play then Roccat could come out on top. Is it likely? Giants have been performing extremely well recently, taking many series victories or at least contesting the games. They’re sitting in a strong position on the ladder and it’ll be their series to lose.

Prediction: Giants Victory. Giants are in a fairly strong position on the ladder and have been performing extremely well recently, Roccat are contrasting this but will look to try and contest this series as it’s their final game of the split.

Unicorns of Love vs. Splyce EU LCS Summer Split Week 9

Week 9 | Day 2 – Match #2:  Unicorns of Love EU LCS Team Logo LoL  Unicorns of Love vs. Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoL Splyce

Start Time: July 31, 05:00 AM PDT/ 08:00 AM EDT/ 14:00 CEST

Head to head record: Tied Series

It was only a few weeks ago that the Unicorns of Love managed to tie their series against Splyce, who are now sitting in a highly envied position on the ladder. Splyce have managed to work their way into a strong position having taken 9 victories, which is a tied amount to the current #1 team. Unicorns of Love are going to need to pull out a few tricks if they want to contest the series but seeing as we’re at the end of the split they could bring some seriously cheesy strategies.

Prediction: Splyce Victory. Splyce have been performing extremely well recently, they’ve managed to work their way into an extremely admirable position on the ladder and are ahead of the majority of teams. With the Unicorns of Love managing to tie their previous series I think they’ll be confident but I doubt that’ll get them far against a top team.

G2 Esports vs. Fnatic EU LCS Summer Split Week 9

Week 9 | Day 2 – Match #3: G2 Esports EU LCS Team Logo LoL G2 Esports vs. Fnatic EU LCS Team Logo LoL Fnatic

Start Time: July 31, 05:00 AM PDT/ 10:00 AM EDT/ 16:00 CEST

Head to head record: G2 Esports 1:0 Fnatic

G2 Esports have actually looked more inconsistent recently; they’ve been dropping a lot of their games and ending them in ties because of it. It’s troubling to think that the top European team could be falling due to overconfidence but they’re still at the top for good reason. Fnatic haven’t looked much better either, falling to Splyce and even worse for them was tying their series with Origen. I’m sure we’re going to see a few surprises during this series.

G2 Esports still look to be in an advantageous position; they hold the head to head record and have a stronger track record throughout the split. They’ve also not lost a single series so far which plays a significant part in their advantage.

G2 Esports - EU LCS team LogoG2 Esports are likely to draft their usual champions, a few of their players have shown some preference picks so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them during this series. A Shen in the top lane opens up split pushing for them and could also impact a lot of the earlier skirmishes in the game; the global ultimate is extremely high impact when used correctly. This is likely to be assisted by a Hecarim or Gragas in the jungle, both of which can pressure the earlier stages of the game and impact team fights their abilities that throw off their opponent’s positioning. The middle lane of G2 Esports Is likely to pick up either Vladimir or Malzahar; many other teams are also utilizing these champions and they’ve had success on those champions recently. The duo lane of G2 has used a large variety of champions but I’d really like to see more Taric, I love the way they used that champion and it works extremely well when paired with a Sivir. Once they’ve loaded into the game they’re going to want to build an aggressive line of vision and capitalise on any faulty positioning they find their opponents doing. This should find them a few early game skirmishes which could easily translate into a more considerable lead; these skirmishes won’t come easy as their opponents are extremely experience in early game fighting but if they’ve taken the engage they can make quick rotations with their utility and mobility to create more advantages. Utilizing a similar style around the middle stages of the game, after extending their lines of vision, will also create more opportunities for them to fight and take leads. They’re going to need to play aggressively, at a fairly fast pace and to try and stay ahead of their opponents in terms of tempo, this will give them a significantly easier time finding advantageous and will lead them to objectives. This will easily translate into sieging and taking a game, setting them ahead in the series.

Fnatic EU LCS Team Logo LoLFnatic have had a few common champion picks but they’ve not found as much success lately as they’d have liked. I think they should fall back onto some of their earlier champion picks such as an Irelia or Shen in the top lane; they’re often a safer pick and can be utilized in many different ways across the rift and throughout the multiple stages of the game. This is likely to be assisted by a Gragas in the jungle but they’ve got a few tricks up their sleeve such as Rumble in the jungle, this could give them an advantage because their opponents might lack experience in that match-up. The middle lane of Fnatic, in my opinion, should pick up Azir or Vladimir; both of those champions hold a significant amount of wave clear and can easily turn the tides in a team fight. Fnatic’s duo lane will be one of their most important and it’s where a lot of their utility will reside. They’ve often pick up champions such as Karma and Braum in the bottom lane but I’d like to see them utilize more Sona. Pairing any of these with a Jhin or Sivir will give them excellent engagement tools and could easily open up fights for them. Once they’ve made their way onto the rift they’re going to want to set up a line of vision that can be easily adapted, holding onto defensive wards around the bottom side of the map and around their middle lane will keep them safe but aggressive warding on the top side of the map will help them find early skirmishes. They’re going to want to try and capitalise on rotations made by their opponent and they’re going to want to try and take a tempo lead. This will let them rotate more quickly, take down a few opponents in skirmishes and put them in a position in which they’ll begin dictating the pace of the game. This is how they’ll get ahead of their opponents and crack into their base to take a win, opening up the series for them.

Prediction: Tied Series. G2 Esports are yet to lose a single series so I don’t think they’re going to fall to Fnatic here but I think Fnatic have the potential to pull off a tie. G2 Esports have been having trouble coming out on top of a series with a victory recently and against Fnatic it might be more difficult than normal, I’ll be looking for a few close games and a tie to end it all.

FC Schalke 04 vs. Team Vitality EU LCS Summer Split Week 9

Week 9 | Day 2 – Match #4: FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo FC Schalke 04 vs. Vitality EU LCS Team Logo LoL Vitality

Start Time: July 31, 03:00 AM PDT/ 06:00 AM EDT/ 12:00 CEST

Head to head record: Tied Series

Team Vitality had an extremely rough week 8 but coming into week 9 they’re looking more confident. FC Schalke 04 are in an extremely similar situation, they’ve had a rough week 8 but are slowly working themselves into more confident play during week 9. This could be quite a clash between these 2 teams as they’re both holding the exact same score and will be fighting for a lead.

I’ll give the advantage to Team Vitality here, during week 8 when both teams lost for the entirety of the week Team Vitality still looked like the better of the 2 teams. They may have still lost but it was to teams that are widely considered stronger than the teams that S04 lost to. We’ve also got to consider their day 1 games in which VIT contested the series against G2 Whilst S04 contested against Giants.

FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo LoLFC Schalke 04 are going to want to draft into their comfortable and confident picks, this is their last game of the split and if they’re looking to win they’re going to want to be able to do so without much trouble. I think we’ll be running into a Vladimir in the middle lane if we’re factoring in comfort, many players have found comfort on that champion and it can have phenomenal impact for both split pushing and team fighting. The bottom lane of S04 has had a preference for Karma so seeing that paired with a Sivir or Lucian could give them a high impact and potent lane. Their jungler has shown a diverse champion pool but seeing a few bruiser or tank champions in their jungle that can impact the earlier stages of the game will give them a strong start to their game; this can be fairly easily achieved with a Gragas or Reksai. S04’s top lane has found comfort on Gnar which is fantastic for many things; it can lead this team through team fighting or skirmishes in the earlier and middle stages of the game but also hold split pushing potential if they’re running into issues or gain a significant lead in the earlier stages of the game. They’re going to want to try and get some aggressive vision around the top side of the map, keeping some defensive wards close to their middle and bottom lane. They should be able to find a few advantageous skirmishes with the aggressive vision and if their middle laner can rotate quickly they’ll be able to take a significant lead in the earlier stages of the game. This lead could quickly translate into objectives, such as drakes, or sieging which will assist them in pushing for a win in the later stages of the game. They could run into trouble around team fighting but with an easily adaptable composition they should be able to create a few fast paced rotations and work around split pushing to further their advantages. This will set them ahead in the series or gain them a convincing victory to at least tie it.

Vitality - EU LCS team LogoTeam Vitality have a few comfort picks of their own which I expect will make appearances throughout this series, Team Vitality haven’t had the most successful time recently but as it’s the last week I think they’ll be packing punches and will be prepared for the most difficult of situations. They’ll be taking a Fiora in the top lane and assisting it with a Gragas or Olaf, this will give them absolutely destructive skirmishes in the earlier stages of the game around the top side of the map and I’d like to see them utilize the early strengths of these champions. Their bottom lane has performed best with a tank as a support, this could come confidently in the form of a Trundle or Tahm Kench; they’re likely to be supporting an Ashe but I’d also like to see them use more Sivir. VIT’s middle lane has shown a deep champion pool recently but it’s not worked out too well for them, I’d like to see them utilize more Malzahar and Vladimir because the potential those 2 champions hold for the later stages of the game and that’s where I think VIT could run into the most trouble during this series. They’re going to want to get some easily adaptable vision around their middle lane along with holding an aggressive line of vision close to the top lane, they’ve often pick up bruisers in the top lane which are fantastic at duelling so if their opponents push too confidently they’ll be able to capitalize and take a small lead. This could open up potential split pushing opportunities for them which will give them a lead in the middle stages of the game; it will close opportunities for their opponents and open up new opportunities for VIT. If they manage to take and maintain that lead on their top laner it’ll be difficult for any opponent to duel them and VIT will be able to methodically take down objectives, siege and work their way to a win; setting them ahead in the series.

Prediction: Tied Series. Neither of these teams stands out ahead of their opponents. They’ve both been performing on a similar level recently and I don’t think either team are in an advantageous enough position to take both games during the series. Because of this I think it’ll end in a fairly balanced tie.

Origen vs. H2K Gaming EU LCS Summer Split Week 9

Week 9 | Day 2 – Match #5: Origen EU LCS Team Logo LoL Origen vs. H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoL H2K Gaming

Start Time: July 31, 05:00 AM PDT/ 08:00 AM EDT/ 14:00 CEST

Head to head record: Tied Series

Origen have made a few questionable decisions and they’ve taken a hell of a lot of hits recently, they’re officially in a position of relegation so at least they don’t have much to lose when heading into this series. H2k have brought out their secret weapon, their previous marksman is back and they’re looking more confident and stronger for it. H2k with their new comfort are looking like the H2k of old, the ones who were highly feared.

Prediction: H2k Victory. With how questionable Origen have been performing, along with them being a bottom standing team, I think H2k will be able to come out on top fairly confidently. They’ve shown that they’re ahead of a lot of contending teams and I think it’ll show even more during this series.

EU LCS Summer Split Week 9 – Day 1:

We’ve hit the final sprint, the games played during this week will be the final impact each team can make during the regular portion of the split. Some teams have thrived whilst others have dived; on day 1 we’ll be taking a focused perspective on G2 Esports vs. Team Vitality which will be quickly followed by Unicorns of Love vs. H2k. make sure the catch the games as they start going live from Thursday, July 28th!

G2 Esports vs. Team Vitality EU LCS Summer Split Week 9

Week 9 | Day 1 – Match #1:  G2 Esports EU LCS Team Logo LoL G2 Esports vs. Vitality EU LCS Team Logo LoL Vitality

Start Time: July 30, 03:00 AM PDT/ 06:00 AM EDT/ 12:00 CEST

Head to head record: Tied Series

When they last faced off both teams were in a comfortable position and could have both been considered top competing teams. This was all before Team Vitality fell down the ladder in a significant way, their series’ looked to get more difficult for them but they’ve been picking up the pace. Will it be enough to take down final remaining undefeated team?

G2 Esports look to be in an advantageous position here. They’re still undefeated and have yet to drop a single series. Although there was a tie when these 2 teams faced off, it looks apparent that if either of these teams were to come out on top it would be G2 over VIT.

G2 Esports - EU LCS team LogoG2 Esports have had a similar style and composition that’s worked fairly well for them, I expect to see familiar champions show up for them during this series; this could come a Shen or Trundle in the top lane which is likely to be assisted by an Elise or Gragas in the jungle. The middle lane of G2 has had some great performances recently on a vast amount of middle lane champions, I’d like to see more Malzahar and LeBlanc making an appearance in the middle lane for them because of the sheer impact they’re able to have coming from that position on the map. G2’s bottom lane has shown that they’re able to utilize many different champions and combinations to get through their laning and have a later game impact however I think they’d be better off taking Ashe and pairing it with a Braum or Tahm Kench for those slightly earlier engages. Once they’re on the rift they’re going to want to set up a slightly aggressive line of vision across the river and close to their opponent’s jungle, sneaking a few wards in if they can. This will give them access to information needed when rotating or picking skirmishes, it will also open up opportunities for them to take tempo leads. If they can play ahead of their opponents in terms of tempo and pace they should be able to take small advantages for the middle stages of the game, at this point they’ll be able to utilize their small lead to take team fights along with pressuring objectives. Through paced rotations and staying ahead of their opponent they should be able to gain some control over the game, creating advantages for themselves easily and setting them up to take the game along with getting ahead in the best-of-2 series.

Vitality - EU LCS team LogoTeam Vitality have had it fairly rough recently, they’ve just lost 2 series’ in a row and were unable to at least take ties. They’ve not looked too bad throughout those series’ but they were able to take those victories when they were such high impact games. They’re going to need to take a step back and work on their macro management whilst sticking with comfortable champions. Team Vitality could have greater impact if they have  a top lane tank such as Shen along with another tanky champion such as Reksai or Gragas in the jungle. This will create a difficult and fairly mobile front line that can protect their priority champions. This opens room to take riskier carries such as Ashe paired with a Sona or Karma as their duo lane along with a possible Kassadin or Malzahar in the middle lane. Once they’ve sorted out their comfortable champions they’re going to want to get a lot of vision close to their priority lanes, for their composition I think that’d be their top and middle lane. They’ll need to set their top laner ahead slightly, tanks in the top lane can have a difficult time in this meta if bullied, setting their top lane ahead slightly will allow them space to focus on the middle of the map. With some relieve space in the top lane they’ll be able to pressure and create fights in which VIT engage, this gives them opportunities to reach their focus targets first. With a possible advantage in team fights they’re going to want to engage often and capitalise with sieging and larger contested objectives. This will push them ahead during the game and possibly during the series, if they manage to get ahead of their opponents.

Prediction: Tied Series. Team Vitality has had a bit of a rough patch recently which is understandable when there’s a lot on the line. They’re likely to come into this week stronger and could once again hit a tied series with G2 which I think is the most likely outcome.

Origen vs. Splyce EU LCS Summer Split Week 9

Week 9 | Day 1 – Match #2: Origen EU LCS Team Logo LoL Origen vs. Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoL Splyce

Start Time: July 30, 05:00 AM PDT/ 08:00 AM EDT/ 14:00 CEST

Head to head record: Tied Series

Origen and Splyce previously faced off on the 4th week, half way into the split. A lot has changed since then and Origen have certainly hit a few hard times on the way to the playoffs. Splyce are currently sitting as a top team with an 8-6-2 score whilst Origen is hanging on with a 2-8-6 score; taking significantly more series losses. They’ll need to utilize their strong laners to come out on top of Splyce, keeping a close eye on the map.

Prediction: Splyce Victory. Splyce have slowly taken away the split, with a phenomenal match history. Because of how well they’ve been performing recently, along with their striking consistency through the spit, I think they’re going to come out on top of this series with a victory instead of a tie.

Unicorns of Love vs. H2K Gaming EU LCS Summer Split Week 9

Week 9 | Day 1 – Match #3: Unicorns of Love EU LCS Team Logo LoL  Unicorns of Love vs. H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoL H2K Gaming

Start Time: July 30, 05:00 AM PDT/ 10:00 AM EDT/ 16:00 CEST

Head to head record: Unicorns of Love 1:0 H2k Gaming

Unicorns of Love were able to come out on top of their last head to head and now it’s H2k’s chance to get revenge. Both teams are in a pretty similar position on the ladder and hold similar scores, it’s been like this for a while now but H2k have been working their way up. Unicorns of Love have had a harder time recently so they’re going to need to step up big to hold onto the head to head.

I think H2k have a slight advantage here, they’ve had some pretty strong performances recently and although they lost their series to Splyce without pulling off a tie they did manage to at least contest those games.

Unicorns of Love were able to come out on top of Roccat recently and they did so in a fairly dominating fashion. I think they should hold onto the champions they used during that recent series to try and push it further. We’re likely to see a Braum as their support champion who will be assisting an Ashe or Ezreal in the bottom lane. Their middle lane has frequently used champions that can create high impact in team fights; this can come nicely to them in a Viktor or Vladimir. The top lane of UoL has picked bruisers when possible so seeing more Irelia or Trundle would come as no surprise, especially if it’s being assisted in the earlier stages of the game by a Hecarim or Gragas. Once they’ve loaded into the rift they’re going to want to try and gain some control in the earlier stages of the game, this can be achieved more easily if they use an aggressive line of vision to create a faster pace and open more opportunities. They’re going to want to head into the middle stages of the game whilst creating regular skirmishes, their composition can be played extremely well around cool-downs and this can create some extremely high impact fights for them. If they manage to hold onto a tempo advantage whilst creating these skirmishes they’ll be able to extend their lines of vision and contest objectives, creating even more favourable fights. With a style of play like this they could quite easily snowball the game into a huge advantage for them, gain control of their opponent’s base and gain a lead into the series.

H2k have a few champion picks they can use to throw off the compositions of VIT. Doing so could give them a slight advantage heading into the series as they’ll be breaking the possible comfort of their opponents. Doing this means they’ll want to take away the Braum pick in the bottom lane and pair it with a Sivir. This will give them huge amounts of utility and potential to create or disengage fights in the middle and later stages of the game. The top lane of H2k could quite easily contest the Irelia pick and I’d like to see them utilize that champion more often, especially when it’s able to be assisted in the earlier stages of the game by a Hecarim or Gragas; which are both more contested champion picks. The middle lane of H2k could scramble for the Vladimir pick but I think they’d be better suited with a Karma or Cassiopeia. Once they’ve loaded into the rift they’re going to want to set up a neutral line of vision that can be easily and quickly adapted. During the earlier stages of the game they’re going to want to apply a lot of pressure to the top side of the map, this could open space for them to take a few skirmishes and head to the bottom side of the map for objectives. With a fast rotating bottom lane they’re going to want to set up fights round the middle lane during the middle and later stages of the game. This will also open up options for them to split push with such a dominating champion in their top lane. To take the win they’ll want to play at an elevated pace, take a few skirmishes to try and push for objectives and then split push for advantageous fights. This could propel them ahead quickly and get them ahead in the series.

Prediction: Tied series. Both teams have the potential to take the series if the opposing team isn’t adapting quickly enough however I think both teams will take away a single game during this series. Both teams have shown that they can overcome difficult situations and have proven that they deserve their spots on the ladder; because of how close they are I think this could be an extremely close series.

Fnatic vs. Roccat EU LCS Summer Split Week 9

Week 9 | Day 1 – Match #4:  Fnatic EU LCS Team Logo LoL Fnatic vs. ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoL ROCCAT

Start Time: July 30, 03:00 AM PDT/ 06:00 AM EDT/ 12:00 CEST

Head to head record: Fnatic 1:0 Roccat

Fnatic have had a fairly questionable time recently but have still proven to be a strong competitor and top European team. This is why they’re sitting in a good position on the ladder. Their position could get shaken up here if they underestimate Roccat, who have been able to conquer a few difficult opponents already. Roccat started to show improvements late into the split but they could still make a mess of things and I think they’ll show Fnatic something special this series.

Prediction: Fnatic Victory. There’s a very large gap between these 2 teams on the ladder for a reason. Fnatic have proven to be the more consistent and reliable team at taking an entire series, along with surviving one. Roccat have had a fairly rough split and I don’t think they’ll be able to take a game away for Fnatic this late into the split.

FC Schalke 04 vs. Giants EU LCS Summer Split Week 9

Week 9 | Day 1 – Match #5: FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo FC Schalke 04 vs. Giants EU LCS Team Logo LoL Giants

Start Time: July 30, 05:00 AM PDT/ 08:00 AM EDT/ 14:00 CEST

Head to head record: FC Schalke 04 1:0 Giants

Giants have been proving how difficult they can be to overcome, they’ve made quite a push as this half of the split has been coming to a close and they’ve really struck a chord with a lot of teams. They may not be the leader of the head to head between these 2 teams but they’ve certainly taken more victories. FC Schalke 04 has shown that they can be consistent and strong at the same time but they could be facing a challenge here.

Prediction: Giants Victory. Giants have been difficult for a lot of teams recently; they’ve really been showing up big on the stage and have been able to take down a lot of teams. It looks like they’ve made a few phenomenal changes and improvements and that’s why I think they’ll come out on top of this series instead of ending with a tie.
