Week 7 – LCS EU Summer Split 2016

Welcome to week 7 of the EU LCS Summer Split 2016! The EU LCS was titled as “inconsistent” because of the best-of-2 series style but we’ve been cracking down and making each week an improvement. We’ll be heading into week 7 with style as H2k are bringing F0rgiven back into their roster and there’s been a lot of drama surrounding Origen along with a sudden roster change. Our focus matches for week 7 will include Roccat vs. Team Vitality and Fnatic vs. H2k for day 1, followed by FC Schalke 04 vs. Fnatic along with Origen vs. Roccat for day. Make sure you catch the games as they go live on the usual Thursday, July 14th!

Preview and Predictions

EU LCS Summer Split Week 7 – Day 2:

After a few exciting rumbles and fights on day 1 we saw just how well these teams can quickly mesh together as a few player changes were made and worked well. As for day 2 we will be fixing our attention onto FC Schalke 04 vs. Fnatic along with Origen vs. Roccat, I chose these games because of the potential for upsets along with action among some of the teams contending for better positioning on the ladder. Make sure you catch the games as they go live on Friday, 15th July!

Unicorns of Love vs Vitality EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 7Week 7 | Day 2 – Match #1: Unicorns of Love EU LCS Team Logo LoL  Unicorns of Love vs. Vitality EU LCS Team Logo LoL Vitality

Start Time: July 15, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST

Head to head record: Unicorns of Love 0:1 Team Vitality

After both teams took victories on day 1, over possible ties, they’re starting to push further up the ladder with the summer playoffs closing in. Team Vitality is still in a slightly better position but this serious could quickly change that if Unicorns of Love manage to take away a revenge victory. This match is sure to be filled with excitement as these teams are in a similar position so make sure you don’t miss it!

Prediction: Tied Series. Both teams have their ups and downs, with both teams working hard and trying for a last push up the ladder I think they’ll run into issues against each other, ending this series in a tie.

G2 Esports vs H2K Gaming EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 7Week 7 | Day 2 – Match #2: G2 Esports EU LCS Team Logo LoL G2 Esports vs. H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoL H2K Gaming

Start Time: July 15, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST

Head to head record: Tied Series

A lot has changed in the 4 weeks since their last encounter, H2k have had a few rough patches and G2 Esports have climbed to the top of the EU LCS. Ties are certainly not uncommon but victories are what these teams will be looking for. G2 Esports have looked slightly rougher than usual and H2k are starting to step up so the clash of these 2 teams could be thrilling; who will come out on top?

Prediction: Tied series. H2k have started to pull out some better performances and are slowly starting to look more consistent, with the introduction of an outstanding marksman soon they could be packing some serious punches. This could bring down G2 a notch but they’re still on an extremely competent level.

Origen vs Roccat EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 7Week 7 | Day 2 – Match #3: Origen EU LCS Team Logo LoL Origen vs. ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoL ROCCAT

Start Time: July 15, 12:00 PM PDT/ 03:00 PM EDT/ 21:00 CEST

Head to head record: Origen 1:0 Roccat

Both Origen and Roccat fell to their opponents throughout week 6 and Roccat kept up for week 7 after losing their day 1 series; Origen managed to pull off a tie but both teams are sitting in a fairly weak position. This series holds importance as we get closer to the summer playoffs, both teams are striving for a stronger position because they’re currently in a bad state, risking sitting at the bottom of the ladder.

I’d give Origen the advantage here; they hold the head to head and have actually managed to pull out some relevant performances recently. That on top of their current standings means they’ve been performing better than Roccat throughout the split and I’m confident they’ll be able to show us why.

Origen - EU LCS Team LogoOrigen will want to try and take hold of what’s worked for them, they’ve had to make a few sudden changes but they’re shown on day 1 that it’s not going to hold them back. I’d like to see them continue their pairing of Braum and Sivir in the bottom lane as it provides a significant amount of utility in the middle and later stages of the game, helping the entire team. The middle lane of Origen is likely to pick up Viktor as it’s been his comfort pick for quite a while now, falling back onto Azir if it’s not available. The top lane of Origen will be fighting between Gnar and Shen as options, both of which can hold significant game impact during the middle and later stages of the game. All of these lanes will be assisted by the jungler who’s likely to fall back onto Reksai or Olaf. I’d like to see them take advantage of their early game potential during this series but seeing as it comes with a pretty big risk they should avoid it unless they’re already at an advantage. They’re going to want to build an adaptable line of vision throughout the river with a few pieces scattered around the top side of the map, the top side of the map is often focused and the bottom lane of Origen is likely to survive threats. Origen should be able to create fights during the middle stages of the game using their team utility; they’ll be able to quickly rotate around the map so they’re going to want to get some available deep vision. Building tempo in the earlier stages of the game will give them a bundle of options when their opponents try to catch up, they’ll be able to pick off opponents and follow up by taking objectives along with other possibilities. These are how Origen are going to take their steps forward and take the game along with giving S04 a hard time during this series.

ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoLRoccat will be fighting for the Elise pick in the jungle, it’s what they’ve used recently and although it hasn’t had the best performances it’s comfortable for them. This will be assisting a Trundle or Gnar in the top lane along with a Vladimir or Azir in the middle lane, this combination of champions can create huge potential for picking off opponents or repositioning opponents for advantageous team fights. To finish it all off Roccat are going to aim for a Lucian or Jhin in the bottom lane and they’ll want to pair it with a Thresh or Braum. After they’ve worked their way onto the rift they should aim to build a line of vision around their own jungle entrances and close to their lanes, this will keep all of their players relatively safe and will give them options to pick off opponents that push aggressively. They have fantastic ability to pick off opponents in the early and middle stages of the game so they could look to pick up a few skirmishes, if they go in Roccat’s favour then they’ll be set up nicely for team fighting in the middle and later stages of the game. This game will work like dominos for Roccat, they’re going to need to make things happen regularly to climb on top and will need to continuously pressure Origen to come out on top of the game, this will however set them up nicely and prepare them for contesting the series.

Prediction: Tied Series. I don’t think either of these teams has really improved enough to beat the opposing team consecutively, this means that it’s likely to end in a tie. There could be a few strikes of passion that push one team ahead but with how things have been looking for these teams I expect a mediocre series ending in a tie.

Giants vs Splyce EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 7Week 7 | Day 2 – Match #4: Giants EU LCS Team Logo LoL Giants vs. Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoL Splyce

Start Time: July 15, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST

Head to head record: Giants 0:1 Splyce

Now that we’re reaching the end of the split the teams levels of skill have been clearly decided and it looks like Splyce are at an advantage here. They managed to tie their series on Day 1 against a slightly uncomfortable G2, which is a good achievement, whereas Giants were unable to take down the Unicorns of Love. Splyce are in an advantageous position but Giants have pulled off upsets before and could quite easily give Splyce a run for their money.

Prediction: Splyce Victory. Giants could certainly give Splyce some trouble but it wouldn’t be exciting without that action. I think Splyce will be able to overcome Giants because of their better use of the map, their team management and their control in the earlier stages of the game.

FC Schalke 04 vs Fnatic EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 7Week 7 | Day 2 – Match #5: FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo FC Schalke 04 vs. Fnatic EU LCS Team Logo LoL Fnatic

Start Time: July 15, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST

Head to head series: FC Schalke04 0:1 Fnatic

FC Schalke 04 looked like they were a team with a lot of drive and potential at the start and around the middle of the split but as things progressed and teams cracked down on improvements they’ve been having a significantly harder time. Fnatic haven’t gone without issues of their own, they’ve had rough performances which have brought them down too but the real question is going to be about who will be coming out on top.

Fnatic are certainly at an advantage here. They’ve proven to be in a significantly better position and have often shown why they deserve to be there. They had a rough week recently where things just didn’t go in their favour and they crumbled so if S04 take advantage of those things they might be able to cause some issues but Fnatic will be a challenge.

FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo LoLFC Schalke 04 should aim to take away the Gnar pick in the top lane, Fnatic have shown that they can pull out fantastic performances with that champion as their top laner got a day1 MVP for his performance on it; removing it as a choice could be beneficial. The middle lane of S04 is likely to aim for a control mage such as Azir or Viktor, we could see more Malzahar showing up but I don’t think it’ll be too regular. These will be partnered with and assisted by an Elise or Gragas whose early potential knows few bounds. The bottom lane of S04 is likely to pick up Lucian, as it’s been a pretty common pick for them, along with a Trundle or Nami support. When they’ve loaded into the game S04 are going to want to try and get some early vision around their lanes, a few defensive wards throughout the river will assist them in keeping their lanes safe for the earlier portions of the game. FC Schalke 04 could take a few skirmishes in the earlier stages of the game if they’ve prepared counter ganks or found good positioning, if they can’t then they should be able to work around the aggressive movements of their opponents and catch out their opponents when they try to press forward. It’s going to be a challenge for S04 to come out on top in the earlier stages of the game so they’re going to need to work around their team fighting and strong engagements, this will open up opportunities for them to impact the map and take structures along with those highly contested objectives. When they find an opportunity they should take it often, constantly pushing them forward into a more dominant position. This could set them up to become a thorn in the side of Fnatic, building them up to contest the series.

Fnatic Team Logo LoLFnatic don’t have many regular picks occurring and with changes in their top lane they’re likely to make a few more changes. Their top lane should stick with what he’s shown so far, that’s worked well with the team, such as Gnar and Irelia however I believe he’ll be able to have an impactful Shen too. Fnatic’s middle lane has shown great ability on Azir which I would like to see more of, along with great potential on both Ryze and Viktor which could show up during this series. When it comes to the FNC bottom lane Ezreal is one of their more common marksmen but I’d like to see them fit in more Sivir, pairing it with a Braum if possible. Once they’re ready and on the rift I think Fnatic should aim to get a few deeper vision wards down, this will open up a lot of room for their laners to play slightly more aggressively as well as giving their jungler some opportunities to skirmish or counter jungle. Their potential champion picks are packed with utility which will help them thrive in combat situations, they’ll be able to pick off their opponents fairly quickly along with being able to manoeuvre around team fights quickly to find an advantageous position. Fnatic should be able to find a lead in the middle stages of the game, this can be done through smaller skirmishes and finding team fights through their ability to pick off opponents and sporadically create fights. Fnatic should be able to increase the pace of the game and slowly push for faster tempo, they will be able to take rotational advantages and siege fairly quickly whilst possibly being uncontested. They’ll be able to get ahead, rotate fast and take more advantageous fights if they play this comfortably, getting them into a good position to take the series.

Prediction: Fnatic Victory. Fnatic have proven that although they’ve made a few changes they’re more than ready to keep pushing for a top position on the ladder. They’ve been able to take down opponents with fantastic performances and I expect them to show more during this series.

EU LCS Summer Split Week 7 – Day 1:

Week 7 is sure to be packed with excitement as teams have been discussing both internal and roster changes, which we will hopefully see soon! During week 7 day 1 we will be focusing on 2 of the 5 games played; we’ll be taking a deeper look into Roccat vs. Team Vitality along with Fnatic vs. H2k. Make sure you catch the games as they go live on Thursday, July 14th!

Unicorns of Love vs Giants EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 7Week 7 | Day 1 – Match #1:  Unicorns of Love EU LCS Team Logo LoL  Unicorns of Love vs. Giants EU LCS Team Logo LoL Giants

Start Time: July 14, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST
Head to head record: Unicorns of Love 0:1 Giants

Both of these teams have been performing exceptionally recently, Giants managed to tie their series with G2 Esports and Unicorns of Love came out on top of Origen whilst also tying with Fnatic. They’ve shown great improvement in the recent weeks as the inconsistency of a few other teams is showing. Both Giants and Unicorns of love have the potential to push their opponent’s weaknesses and capitalise on them to gain a lead, it’s going to be a difficult match and both teams are certainly going to show some of their true strengths here.

Prediction: Tied Series. Both teams have shown great improvement and ability to adapt throughout a series, this will come in handy as they go head to head but I don’t think either team will come out on top and the series will end tied.

Roccat vs Vitality EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 7Week 7 | Day 1 – Match #2: ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoL ROCCAT vs. Vitality EU LCS Team Logo LoL Vitality

Start Time: July 14, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST
Head to head record: Roccat 1:0 Team Vitality

The first and only series that Roccat has won, coming out on top of a series with both wins, was in the first head to head against Team Vitality. This could all come crashing down as this is the chance Team Vitality need to get revenge and gain those wins they so desperately need as we start to close in on summer playoffs.

I’d give Team Vitality the advantage here, both teams have been underperforming a bit but they’ve stayed on a fairly consistent level. Team Vitality have been the stronger performing team of the two as they’ve been able to come out on top of stronger opponents and tie more regularly, dropping less games in total. This goes to show their better strength and consistency which I expect to show up during this series.

ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoLRoccat are on a bit of a tilt as far as their performances are concerned. They’ve been up against the wall having to face some difficult opponents however they’ve pulled off some good performances before and I expect to see some of their more common and comfortable picks. I’ll be looking for a Vladimir to make an appearance in the middle lane, falling back onto Viktor will also be a good and safe choice for them. The top lane of Roccat has shown a deep champion pool however I’d like to see some of the more conventional picks shine through this week with more Gnar and Trundle showing up for them. These solo lanes are likely to be assisted by a Kindred or Graves in the jungle, although I’m not a big fan of these jungle champions at the moment due to meta changes they’re still strong and suitable picks. Their bottom lane has regularly picked up Thresh and Jhin so seeing this pair show up more wouldn’t be too surprising, I’d like to see Lucian picked more by them though. Roccat should aim to claim so early defensive vision and gain strong positioning on the rift, setting up safer lanes so their jungler can roam and pressure; creating small opportune moments for Roccat to take a small lead, tempo advantage or just an advantageous position on the map. Roccat has shown in the past that they’re able to take a lead and control a game with it however it’s not work in their favour recently, they’ll need to keep up the pressure and use tempo to their advantage; this will let them rotate around the map and regularly siege the structures of their opponents. Roccat should avoid early skirmishes unless it’s created whilst in an advantageous position or they find a strong engagement, this can be achieved through jungle pressure and early assistance to the lanes. They can create situations in which they’ll be able to come out on top but unless they find those specific situations I think they should play the game out patiently, this will let them slowly ramp up and get into a comfortable position to take fights and begin controlling the game. This could set them up nicely to take a game away and get a foot up on the series.

Vitality - EU LCS team LogoTeam Vitality recently fell to Fnatic but that wasn’t without putting up with a fight, more recently they came out on top of Origen and I expect to see a similar composition in this series against Roccat. This means we could be looking at more Gragas in the jungle to assist the Irelia or Gnar in the top lane. The middle lane of Team Vitality regularly picked Cassiopeia but I’d like to see more of their Ryze showing up before the changes are applied to the LCS, they also had a really strong performance on Ryze recently and I think they can recreate it. The bottom lane of Team Vitality has picked up Sivir recently and used it often, pairing it with utility supports such as Nami and Janna which I think are likely to show up more. After they’ve loaded into the rift I think Team Vitality should try and acquire an adaptable line of vision close to the river and around their lanes, this will let them quickly adapt in the earlier and middle stages of the game; giving them an option to go aggressive when they find opportunities or staying in a more mutual and passive play style. They should try and utilize their strong jungle options, applying pressure to the lanes in the earlier stages of the game; this’ll give them small leads which could translate into an advantage when they finally decide to pick fights or pick off opponents. If they can take a hold of their lead they should be able to use some aggressive movements and rotations to work their way around their opponents, this could lead them into a tempo advantage in which they can rotate more quickly than their opponents and engage sudden fights of which they will be at a significant advantage. They’ve got great team utility so if they find that they’re in a difficult situation they should be able to work around their opponents and play the map, a more macro style of play could lead Team Vitality into a huge victory against Roccat; this could set them up to slowly take the first game but to take it quite convincingly. This sets them up nicely to take the series and to get their revenge.

Prediction: Team Vitality victory. Team Vitality has taken a noticeably amount of hits but it’s certainly less than Roccat. They’ve taken fewer losses whilst showing stronger performances; I think they’ll come out on top of the series whilst showing some consistency and great use of macro management.

Fnatic vs H2K Gaming EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 7Week 7 | Day 1 – Match #3: Fnatic EU LCS Team Logo LoL Fnatic vs. H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoL H2K Gaming

Start Time: July 14, 12:00 PM PDT/ 03:00 PM EDT/ 21:00 CEST
Head to head record: Fnatic 0:1 H2k.

H2k took their previous series but Fnatic made huge improvements through the middle of the split and managed to climb into an extremely strong position, this position goes to show how this veteran team and working extremely well however they’ve been having a bit of a difficult time recently; they’ll need to climb out of this to take down H2k, who have been looking a bit inconsistent but extremely strong on their good days.

I’d give the advantage to Fnatic here, they’ve been a bit rough recently but they’ve been able to conquer their problems in the past and are working their way out of one now. They’ve had stronger overall performances and are currently sitting in a better position on the ladder, although they’ve taken that 1 extra loss.

Fnatic Team Logo LoLFnatic should look to pick up their reliable champion choices to gain an upper hand during this series; they’ve shown a few fantastic compositions which I think could thrive against H2k. I hope we come across more Nami in the bottom lane along with some Lucian and Sivir; it can make for a devastating combination. The top lane of Fnatic has found some comfort on Shen and I expect it to show up as well as some Rumble. This is like to be assisted by an Olaf or Reksai in the jungle which will also be assisting a Zilean or Vladimir in the middle lane, the early pressure that can be applied could propel Fnatic into a quick lead. Once they’re on the rift I think Fnatic should set up an adaptable line of vision throughout the river that can quickly be changed, pushed and adapted to the movements of their opponents. This could give them a slight edge if there are any early skirmishes or if they start looking to pick off opponents to get a bit of a lead. I think Fnatic could come out on top of early skirmishes, giving them a lot of presence in the middle stages of the game. Those same early skirmishes will give them enough of a lead to create pressure around objectives in the middle stages of the game which will comfortable set up the late game for them. After taking those early fights and hopefully taking an early lead Fnatic are going to want to play around their macro management and team fighting, this should set them up nicely to siege the H2k structures and get them into their base; giving them a victory and a step up in the series.

H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoLH2k are extremely likely to pick up Viktor in the middle lane, it’s made appearances in their last 4 games and I think the comfort shown on that champion for them is phenomenal. The top lane for H2k is likely to swap between Gnar and Rumble, much like Fnatic, so those will be contested picks and possibly difficult to acquire. These lanes will be assisted by an Elise or Reksai in the jungle, maybe even a Hecarim once again, which will be able to create a lot of pressure in the earlier stages of the game with great potential to pick off opponents. The possibly changing bottom lane of H2k could have varying champion picks but I think we could be looking at Lucian and Sivir making appearances for them which will be paired with a Karma or Bard. When they’re locked in and ready they should build a line of vision across the river and attempt to get a few aggressive wards placed, giving them a slight advantage when it comes to choosing their skirmishes. H2k might need to spend some time stabilising their bottom lane, with how volatile and potent their bottom lane champions could be I expect them to try and apply some pressure there. H2k are going to want to try and get their tempo ahead of Fnatic, both teams have shown great capability at sieging so who ever manages to get those steps ahead could be at a huge advantage. This series could be rough for H2k but with how inconsistent Fnatic have proven to be recently I think H2k are in a good position to lay some pressure down and do some serious damage, getting ahead in a game and taking a win; setting them up nicely to pressure the series.

Prediction: Tied Series. Fnatic are in a fantastic position and are looking advantageous but with how unreliable they’ve been recently I think they might have trouble taking 2 wins in the series. H2k could pack some serious punches during this series and I think they’ll pull off a tie.

G2 Esports vs Splyce EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 7Week 7 | Day 1 – Match #4: G2 Esports EU LCS Team Logo LoL G2 Esports vs. Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoL Splyce

Time: July 14, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST
Head to head record: G2 Esports 1:0 Splyce

It’s been a long time since these 2 teams have gone head to head and the skill level of these teams has become apparent. G2 Esports have looked a little more shaken up than usual but are still maintaining an undefeated status in which they’ve either won or tied every series they’ve played. Can it be broken by Splyce here? Splyce have a similar score to G2 apart from 2 series losses, both teams have great potential to take this series or could we be looking at another tie?

Prediction: Tied Series. Both teams are looking quite strong at the moment and with G2 being a bit shaky recently, discussing roster changes, I’d say that Splyce could perform equally or possibly even better than them. However G2 Esports are a rock in the EU LCS and will look to maintain their position, I expect some phenomenal games here ending in a tied series.

Origen vs FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 7Week 7 | Day 1 – Match #5: Origen EU LCS Team Logo LoL Origen vs. FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo FC Schalke 04

Start Time: July 14, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST
Head to head record: Tied Series.

It’s been a while since these 2 teams face off and their previous series ended with a tie. This was when Origen looked like they were in a stronger position but with all of the drama surrounding the team and them recently losing their organisation staff I think it’s going to be taking its toll on the team. FC Schalke 04 have worked their way into a pretty comfortable position on the ladder and will be looking to keep it that way, taking down Origen is their new task and they’ll be looking for a convincing win.

Prediction: FC Schalke 04. I think S04 are going to come out on top because Origen is being strained right now. Their organisation is taking a few hits and it’s undoubtedly affecting the team, that’s why they’ve had to make a sudden roster change which will also reduce their potential performances. Because of these combined issues and with how strong S04 have already proven to be I think they’ll come out on top quite comfortably.
