Preview and Predictions

EU LCS Summer Split Week 6 – Day 2:

There were quite a few expected outcomes from day 1 and now we’re heading into day 2, surprisingly Giants are looking significantly stronger after a short space of time. We’ll be focusing on 2 of the games being played with the remainders being quickly concluded in their own shorter paragraphs; the focus matches will be Origen vs. Team Vitality along with Giants vs. H2k. Make sure you catch the matches as they go live on multiple streams on Saturday, July 9th!

Origen vs Vitality EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 6Week 6 | Day 2 – Match #1: Origen EU LCS Team Logo LoL Origen vs. Vitality EU LCS Team Logo LoL Vitality

Start Time: July 9, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST

Head to head record: Tied Series.

Origen and Team Vitality are currently in a tied position on the ladder, sitting with 1 win and 6 ties along with 4 losses. This means they’re both fighting for a higher position on the ladder but with the EU best-of-2 series style they might continue to stay on an equal level. Team Vitality are having a few hardships as they’ve lost their 2 most recent series’ whereas Origen were able to contest their series against G2, the current top team, and looked fairly good whilst doing it.

I think Origen are at an advantage here but taking away the entire series will be extremely challenging, Team Vitality have proven time and time again that even when they’re a game down they can come back and tie a series. Origen has had trouble winning their series’ and has often ended in ties so coming out on top won’t come easy at all.

Origen - EU LCS Team LogoOrigen should try and take hold of their powerful scaling champions, they’ve picked a few niche champions recently and they’ve not been working out at all so reverting back should bring them some comfort and confidence. I’d like to see more Irelia in the top lane, swapping with a Swain, and a Viktor or Varus in the middle lane. These should be assisted by an Elise or Reksai in the jungle, both of those champions can play relatively safely and go aggressive when the time calls for it; this will let Origen adapt to their opponents. The bottom lane of Origen is still a bit questionable but they’ve had some comfortable performances on Lucian which I’d like to see being paired with a Braum or Bard. When they’re ready and on the rift, Origen are going to want to set up an adaptable line of vision throughout the river which they can press forward in their opponent’s jungle or pull back to cover their own, doing this will let them quickly adapt their vision depending on the outcome of the earlier stages of the game and can bring them significant safety or opportunities to go aggressive in the middle and later stages of the game. Origen is going to want to avoid early skirmishes unless they catch out their opponents and are in an advantageous position. They should be able to pressure their lanes and rotate regularly to siege, this will give them opportunities to take fights and slowly bring down Team Vitality to gain a lead. This lead can be used to expand their control over the map and spread their vision around heavily contested objectives, furthering their lead and giving them opportunities to take the game; setting them up to contest the series.

Vitality - EU LCS team LogoTeam Vitality has hit hard times recently, being unable to contest a single series for the past competitive week. Things haven’t been going in their favour and they’re going to need to either switch things up or revert back to their comfort champions. I’ll be looking for an Elise or Reksai in the jungle, which will be contested by Origen, along with an Irelia or Olaf in the top lane. Their middle lane will aim for a considerable amount of wave clear on a champion such as Cassiopeia or Viktor. The bottom lane of Team Vitality is going to need to be very pressure heavy and packed with utility so seeing more Sivir or Ashe as their marksmen and pairing it with a Braum or Karma could be phenomenal for them. When they’ve loaded in they’re going to want to set up a defensive line of vision on the top side of the map, to give their top laner relative safety and avoiding early jungle pressure in the top lane, and aggressive warding on the bottom side of the map. The aggressive warding will open up opportunities for their jungler to either invade or pressure the bottom lane, both of which can have significant impact when the middle stages of the game roll around. If Team Vitality can find a few skirmishes in the earlier stages of the game they should be able to come out on top of them as long as they’re playing around their vision, avoiding any surprises. Team Vitality are going to have a fairly tough time both taking a lead and closing out the game, if they play the later stages of the game fairly slowly they should be able to find some advantageous team fights by forcing their opponents to rotate around objectives which have been set up by Team Vitality previously, this will give them opportunities to take fights and propel themselves into a significant lead. This lead can be used to work the map and push their way into the base of Origen, giving them the first game and opening up the series.

Prediction: Tied Series. Both teams are showing equality, they’re in an extremely similar situation on the ladder and they even tied their 1st series when they went head to head before. Unless one of these teams can really utilize their strengths whilst abusing their opponent’s weaknesses at the same time then I expect a tied series to come out of this match-up.

G2 Esports vs Roccat EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 6Week 6 | Day 2 – Match #2: G2 Esports EU LCS Team Logo LoL G2 Esports vs. ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoL ROCCAT

Start Time: July 9, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST

Head to head record: Tied Series.

Surprisingly their previous match ended in a tie, this turned out to be a best case scenario for Roccat as no team has been able to take down G2 Esports so far this summer split; they’ve only ever won or tied. Roccat are currently at the bottom of the ladder and really need to start stepping up to take a stronger position on the ladder but can they pull something like that off against G2 Esports?

Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. I think Roccat could give G2 a bit of a rough time during the games but ultimately I think G2 have the potential and available ability to come out on top of this series with a victory; seeing as it’s a top ladder team vs. a bottom ladder team too.

FC Schalke 04 vs Splyce EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 6Week 6 | Day 2 – Match #3: FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo FC Schalke 04 vs. Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoL Splyce

Start Time: July 9, 12:00 PM PDT/ 03:00 PM EDT/ 21:00 CEST

Head to head record: Fc Schalke 04 0:1 Splyce

These teams are close in the standings with a single victory and loss separating them, just 1 single series is the difference between these 2 teams and this is all S04 will need to equalise the score. The head to head record is in favour of Splyce already and Splyce have been performing really well lately so they’re going to give S04 an extremely hard time. S04 are in a bit of a bad place as they’ve only won a single game during their last few series’ played. They’re going to need to really step up if they want to equalise the head to head record and their scores.

Prediction: Splyce Victory. The difference between these 2 teams is growing, S04 have been running into a lot of trouble recently whereas Splyce have been able to put on some fantastic performances. They’re currently performing like opposites and because of this I think Splyce will take both games of the series and take away a Victory.

Unicorns of Love vs Fnatic EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 6Week 6 | Day 2 – Match #4: Unicorns of Love EU LCS Team Logo LoL  Unicorns of Love vs. Fnatic EU LCS Team Logo LoL Fnatic

Start Time: July 9, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST

Head to head record: Unicorns of Love 0:1 Fnatic

Fnatic are in a pretty good position here, they’ve got the head to head in their favour and they’re in a significantly stronger position on the ladder; they have however had a few questionable performances recently and Unicorns of Love could take advantage of this if Fnatic look rough once again. Unicorns of Love have definitely made improvements and it could be exactly what they need coming into this series.

Prediction: Fnatic Victory. Unicorns of Love have made improvements and I think they’re going to five Fnatic a harder time than usual however Fnatic are a fairly reliable team and aren’t likely to repeat their questionable performances. Because of this I think Fnatic are going to come out on top of this series with a victory.

Giants vs H2K Gaming EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 6Week 6 | Day 2 – Match #5: Giants EU LCS Team Logo LoL Giants vs. H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoL H2K Gaming

Start Time: July 9, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST

Head to head record: Giants 0:1 H2k

Giants have been busting out some fantastic performances which have started their summer split second half climb; they’ve been taking down teams by the top of the ladder or at least contesting the series and ending them with a tie. This will be troublesome for H2k but H2k have also had some recent strong performances which could give them an advantage.

I think H2k are at an advantage here, they’ve got a style that can adapt fairly easily and they’ve got a good focus on objectives. Because of this I think they’ll be able to evaluate situations in the earlier stages of the game which could set them behind and avoid them. They also hold the head to head record and have shown that they’re able to hold a series, having 4 less losses than Giants.

Giants - EU LCS Team LogoGiants are going to want to get their recent strong performing champions and use them to their full potential, taking down H2k in the earlier stages of the game so they’ll be able to safely pressure for the later stages. To do this they’ll want to take a Swain or Jax in the top lane and pair it with a jungler than can apply pressure in the earlier stages of the game such as Nidalee or Reksai. The middle lane of Giants has regularly picked up Viktor and I’d love to see more of it along with Anivia. Their duo lane has shown some diversity in champion picks but their strongest performances came from Ashe or Jhin in the bottom lane and pairing them with a Braum or Nami. Once they’re all set up and ready to go they should aim to set up a fairly aggressive line of vision, they’ve shown time and time again that they’re able to take control of a game if they can get a lead on their opponents, this lead could come fairly easily if they’re able to gain information on their opponent’s positioning and take advantage of it. They should aim to take a few early skirmishes, giving them a minor gold lead which they’ll be able to utilize once they start forcing team fights or objectives in the middle and later stages of the game. Taking a lead shouldn’t be too difficult, H2k often play fairly slowly in the early stages of the game so a lot of jungle pressure should give them lane advantages, these can be abused in many different ways. Giants have shown already that they’re able to take these games away and take down those strong teams, they had proven this when they took down Fnatic and contested their series against G2 Esports; this will be no different and I think Giants could easily take away that first game and contest the series.

H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoLH2k Gaming should pick up their comfort champions and rely on their ability to adapt throughout a game and a series to come out on top of this one. Giants have proven to be a pain for many teams recently and H2k will want to avoid falling to them, especially as we progress towards the summer playoffs. H2k should try and take hold of an Irelia or Gnar in the top lane and assist it with a Gragas or Reksai in the jungle, this could give them strong early pressure which could lead to safe passage to the middle and later stages of the game. Their middle lane has often picked Viktor which could be picked away so falling back onto a Zilean or Ryze could be good for them. The bottom lane of H2k has a lot of potential, they’ve picked Bard very often and I think pairing it with a Caitlyn or Sivir could give them phenomenal utility when they’re starting to team fight. After locking in and making preparations they’re going to want to set up a default line of vision across the river, it will be easily adaptable depending on how the earlier stages of the game goes, they’ll be able to draw their vision back into a defensive formation if things go badly or press it forward if things go well; this will open up opportunities for them across the map and either keep them relevant in the game or propel them ahead. To take a lead they’re going to want to only take early skirmishes if they’ve got a player advantage, play patiently and wait for their opponents to make mistakes. Giants have been performing well recently but they’ve still got a few bad habits which can easily be abused. H2k should be able to wait out the earlier stages, scale nicely and then use their superior macro management to take a lead in the middle stages of the game, this will give them room to breathe and siege in the later stages to take the first game, giving them a strong position to take the series.

Prediction: Tied Series. I think this series is going to end in a tie because Giants’ improvements recently have been vast, they’ve taken down the top teams in the European LCS and that’s impossible to ignore. H2k have been playing well recently so I don’t think they’ll drop the series but Giants will be looking for a win.

EU LCS Summer Split Week 6 – Day 1:

Week 5 really packed a few punches as previously well performing teams crashed for a while and some of the teams by the bottom of the ladder pulled out some phenomenal performances; hopefully we see more from these teams coming into week 6! We will be focusing on 2 of the games being played on each day, for day 1 we’ll take a deeper look into Fnatic vs. Team Vitality along with Origen vs. Unicorns of Love. Make sure you catch the games live on Friday, July 8th! Yes, that’s Friday!

Fnatic vs Vitality EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 6Week 6 | Day 1 – Match #1:  Fnatic EU LCS Team Logo LoL Fnatic vs. Vitality EU LCS Team Logo LoL Vitality

Start Time: July 8, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST

Head to head record: Tied Series.

After a surprising loss during week 5 on day 2, where Fnatic fell to Giants, they’re going to need to make a stand and prove why they’re one of the top performing European teams. They’ve got a few tough weeks ahead of them as the summer split is coming to a close and that’s only exacerbated by Team Vitality here. Team Vitality has been difficult for everyone to take down but they’ve also not been able to pick up many series victories, maybe this is the week things change.

I’d say Fnatic are at an advantage here, they had an underwhelming week 5 but still hold a significantly better track record than Team Vitality; with them holding 4 more victories than them instead of the ties that VIT has. Their previous head to head ended in a tied series but now that weeks have passed I think one of these teams is going to come out on top and Fnatic are looking like favourites.

Fnatic Team Logo LoLFnatic will look to get back on track and they’ll be looking to avoid the mistakes they previously made during week 5, I think they’ll stick to comfortable champions such as such as Trundle in the top lane which they’d previously had a few good performances on, they’ll also have both Gnar and Shen as viable fall-back options even though they’ve had trouble on those champions recently. Their jungler has certainly played more Olaf recently and I think it could be a fantastic pick for them here; it still leaves good options left such as Elise if they’re not too comfortable on the Viking. This will work nicely with the middle lane options of Fnatic because they’ve regularly locked in champions with vast amounts of wave clear such as Viktor and Azir which I expect to see more of. The Fnatic bottom lane changed things up in week 5 when they started changing their bottom lane picks; I’d like to see them revert back to their comfort picks like Ezreal and Karma just to get a feel for how difficult this series could be. After they’ve locked in and made the necessary preperations I think they should set up a slightly aggressive line of vision against VIT, it will give them information on the movement of the opponents jungler and will open up opportunities for their own jungler to either pressure the map or invade; this will open up a lot of room for their laners. With quite a lot of their potential picks being potent in the earlier stages of the game I think they could be favoured in skirmishes but finding the right situations against VIT could be difficult, they’ll need to force VIT into rotating if they want to look for smaller fights. With Fnatic falling back onto more comfortable champions they could look to take the game fairly slowly, playing around item and champion power spikes and making sure they pick the right fights to take, this will help them avoid the risks that could quickly lose them the game, this is possible for them because of how well they can team fight along with how well they’ve been able to control the map previously. If Fnatic decide to take things slowly they’ll be on equal footing to VIT so I think the slightly aggressive earlier option is better but they might be lacking the confidence, I think this will be a key aspect in how this series turns out but Fnatic definitely have the potential to take a game and contest this series.

Vitality - EU LCS team LogoTeam Vitality have had a bit of a hard time recently so I think they’re in a similar boat to Fnatic and will try and pick up some of their more comfortable champions, this is likely to come in the form of trying to pick up more Irelia and Trundle in the top lane and pairing it with the early pressures from an Elise or Nidalee in the jungle, the early pressure that can be applied by these jungle champions will be able to open up a lot of room for VIT and give them opportunities to strike Fnatic. Team Vitality has consistently picked Braum as their support and I don’t think it’s going to change any time soon, we might see some more Morgana from them though. If they were to lock in Ashe as their marksmen they’ll be able to create more opportunities to fight but if they’re not comfortable with that pick then a Sivir is likely to show up. After they’ve loaded into the rift I think they should try and maintain a default line of vision across the river and near their opponent’s jungle entrances, they can get some aggressive wards down with their early strength jungle champions and this could open up more opportunities for them. Team Vitality might be able to come out on top of early skirmishes but I think it’ll favour Fnatic more, VIT should only take those early fights if they’ve got a few surprises ready for Fnatic; if they don’t then I think they should play a slower style until they’ve got everything they need to pick off their opponents or fight advantageous engages. If they’re having a difficult time creating those opportunities to fight then they’re going to need to start playing around objectives and making Fnatic come to them, they would need an extremely extensive amount of vision around those objectives to pull this off. They should be able to create a lot of fighting opportunities around the middle stages of the game and skirmishes should come easily, everything will be relying on how they handle the earlier stages of the game and if they’re confident enough to capitalise on potential fights. If they’ve got the confidence then their engagements will pack a punch and open up the series for them.

Prediction: Tied Victory. Although I think Fnatic is slightly favoured both teams have had a bit of a rough time lately and this series will depend heavily on which team is more confident on performance day. They’ve previously tied a series and both teams are in a fairly similar position as far as their troubles, I’ll be expecting a fairly equal match here.

G2 Esports vs Giants EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 6Week 6 | Day 1 – Match #2: G2 Esports EU LCS Team Logo LoL G2 Esports vs. Giants EU LCS Team Logo LoL Giants

Start Time: July 8, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST

Head to head series: G2 Esports 1:0 Giants

This will certainly be an odd match-up; before last week I would have easily given the series to G2 Esports but the Giants have recently proven that they are able to compete at the top levels of the EU LCS and can contest not only games but a series against a team at the top of the ladder. Giants were able to take down Fnatic recently and that’s a huge step forward for them but will it be enough to take down the team at the top of the ladder?

Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. I’d love to see Giants pull off a tie during this series but no team has defeated G2 Esports so far this split and it’s always ended in a tie at the least. Because of this I think G2 Esports are in an extremely good position to take down Giants and continue to prove that they’re the top team.

FC Schalke 04 vs H2K Gaming EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 6Week 6 | Day 1 – Match #3: FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo FC Schalke 04 vs. H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoL H2K Gaming

Start Time: July 8, 12:00 PM PDT/ 03:00 PM EDT/ 21:00 CEST

Head to head record: Tied Series.

This could be one of the most difficult games of the day, Fc Schalke are only a single tied series behind H2k but they’re in a good position because H2k have recently been having trouble closing out a series. Both teams are in a similar boat here, having trouble taking a series; because of this I think there’s going to be a lot of back and forth during their games where both teams manage to show both strength and weakness.

Prediction: Tied Series. FC Schalke and H2k are 2 teams that are having a significantly difficult time taking a series; it’ll be even more difficult against each other because they’re on such a similar level. They’ve previously tied a series at the start of the split and I think we’re going to see something like that happen again.

Origen vs Unicorns of Love EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 6Week 6 | Day 1 – Match #4: Origen EU LCS Team Logo LoL Origen vs. Unicorns of Love EU LCS Team Logo LoL  Unicorns of Love

Start Time: July 8, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST

Head to head record: Origen 0:1 Unicorns of Love

Origen managed to tie their series with H2k which is fantastic for them, it shows they’re able to play more consistently now and they’ve adapt nicely to their sudden change a few weeks ago. Going against Unicorns of love will be a challenge for them though because UoL have been hitting hard and coming out of a lot of their series’ in a good position.

Origen look to be at an advantage here, they may have taken more losses than UoL and they may have previously fallen to them during their series at the start of the split but they’ve made a significant amount of improvements, especially their consistency, and this will play a major role in their series here.

Origen - EU LCS Team LogoOrigen has started to stray away from their constant Karma in the bottom lane and although I like the diversity they should keep that option open, swapping with a Braum or Thresh when changing things up; these supports can have significant lane impact when paired with an Ashe or Lucian. They should be able to gain and maintain an advantage in their bottom lane if they’re using their possible potent lane strength. The middle lane of Origen has started to pick more diversely and I’d like to see more Syndra from them, they’ll always have Viktor or Karma as viable options too. I’d like to see Irelia pop up in the top lane of Origen more consistently however Shen has been a strong pick for them and is likely to show up during this series. Their jungler has a fairly deep pool of champions to choose from however I think Olaf could be fantastic during this series and will open up the early stages of the game for them. After they’ve all settled into the rift I think they should try and gain a mixture of vision against UoL, they’re going to want to maintain a fairly aggressive line of vision on the bottom side of the map and hold onto a defensive line of wards on the top side. With these vision adaptions they should be able to create more skirmishes around the bottom side of the map and quickly gain control of large portions of the map, along with a few easily obtained objectives, which could push them into a significant lead. Origen has the potential to take the earlier stages of the game if they push their aggression but it’ll be at the risk of giving their opponents a significant lead, I think they should play smart and patiently. If they take things a bit slower they will be able to capitalise on their own smart movements along with any mistakes made by their opponents, giving them an upper hand at any stage of the game and opening up the series for them.

Logo of LCS EU Team Unicorns of LoveUnicorns of Love look to be in a bit of trouble here, they may be in a similar position to Origen but their recent performances are certainly lacklustre. The bottom lane of UoL has regularly picked between 2 champions and I expect to see more of them during this series, this means we’ll be looking at more Caitlyn or Jhin paired with a Bard or Nami. The middle lane of UoL has had a few good performances on Anivia this split and I’d like to see it more from them, having Viktor or LeBlanc as their fall-back options. The top laner for the Unicorns has regularly switched between Trundle and Shen, both of which could be fantastic in this series, so I think we could be seeing them more often. When they’re ready to go I think they should try and get an early defensive line of vision around their lanes and through the jungle, trying to get a few near their opponent’s jungle entrances. Their favoured champion picks and compositions work better in the later stages of the game, unless they pick up an assassin in the middle lane, so I think they should play the game slowly and wait for their scaling, they’ll be able to contest objectives and create fights in choke points for an advantage and this could open up the map for them. They’ll want to rotate often to pressure the lanes but this will also open up opportunities for them to find advantageous fights in the middle and later stages of the game, these fights could propel them ahead and open up large objectives for them along with giving them a significant amount of control over the map. This control is exactly what they will need to take over the game and close it out against Origen, making methodical movements and picking team fights carefully to close out the game; essentially opening up the series for them.

Prediction: Origen Victory. I think with the minor improvements Origen has made recently they’ll be the most likely victors here. The Unicorns of Love have been a bit rocky here and can be taken advantage of in the earlier stages of the game, which I expect will give Origen exactly what they need.

Roccat vs Splyce EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 6Week 6 | Day 1 – Match #5: ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoL ROCCAT vs. Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoL Splyce

Start Time: July 8, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST

Head to head record: Tied Series.

Roccat has certainly had a harder time than Splyce recently so I think they’re in a more difficult position, they’re going to need to play confidently and capitalise on any opportunity they find during the game if they want to come out on top. Splyce have been able to take down the likes of Team Vitality recently which is no easy feat, because of this I think they’ve proven they know how to close out a game and it’s going to work extremely well against Roccat here.

Prediction: Splyce Victory. Splyce have shown that they can hold a series, often making them end in ties when things look tough. Because of this I think they’re going to be difficult to overcome and with how well they’ve been able to perform recently I think they’re in a good position to take this series.
