Week 2 – LCS EU Summer Split 2016

After a handy and exciting week we’re finally getting to build our ideas defining who the better performing teams are. Some of this is being thrown around as Origen have had to make a small change; their marksman will be xPeke for the time being. We could come out surprised, shocked and so much more but the excitement is certainly brewing. The matches will start on Thursday, June 9th, so make sure you don’t miss it!

Preview and Predictions

EU LCS Summer Split Week 2 – Day 2:

Quite the competitive time from Week 2 Day 1, we saw a few small surprises and rises from teams but as things progress we’re going to see who the strongest team in the region is truly. It’s been a struggle to come out on top in these best-of-2 series’ but top teams will eventually rise and prove themselves. On day 2 we’ll be focusing on 2 of the 5 games with the remaining matches being concluded. Team Vitality vs. Roccat and H2k vs. Fnatic are my matches of choice as I assume these 2 series’ are going to be the most competitive of the day; make sure you tune in on Friday, June 10th, and remember there are 2 streams!

Splyce vs G2 Esports EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 2

Week 2 | Day 2 – Match #1: Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoL Splyce vs. G2 Esports EU LCS Team Logo LoL G2 Esports

Start Time: June 10, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST

G2 Esports didn’t quite catch their win against Roccat and ended up tying the series, this was a surprise to me but maybe Roccat are really stepping up their game. G2 are going to need to crush this to get to the top of the current ladder. Splyce have shown that they can be difficult to overcome and can challenge multiple teams, so far they’ve contested every single match they’ve played and I think they’re going to be a thorn in the side of G2.

Prediction: Tied Victory. I think G2 are the most likely to take both games of the series but no team has been able to overcome Splyce just yet; G2 might run into a bit of trouble and drop a game which is exactly what other teams have done when facing SPY because they’ve shown that they can adapt nicely.

H2K Gaming vs Fnatic EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 2

Week 2 | Day 2 – Match #2: H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoL H2K Gaming vs. Fnatic EU LCS Team Logo LoL Fnatic

Start Time: June 10, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST

H2k managed to take their first victory on Week 2 Day 1 and they’re looking fairly strong, they’ve not lost a series yet and still have the potential to climb the ladder but Fnatic are now in their way and they’re looking like a challenge. When Fnatic got Yellowstar back they improved, not in an extremely significant way but their bottom lane has been thriving more and this could be troublesome for the slower paced H2k duo lane.

I’d give Fnatic the advantage here, not only do they have a series victory over H2k but they’ve looked like a more practiced and precise team. Their decision making is dominating other teams and their ability to turn fights should be worrying, H2k will never know when they’ve really got an advantage in a fight because Fnatic have surprises at the ready.

Fnatic Team Logo LoLFnatic will look to pick up Gragas in the top lane because as a tank he’s able to control team fights, break their opponents positioning and set up fights in a significant manner; pairing this with a Kha’zix in the jungle will bring deadly force in the middle and later stages of the game but if Kha’zix is unavailable then we might see Lee Sin once again. Their middle lane has shown great diversity but I think we’re going to see more Vladimir and Lissandra from them. The bottom lane of Fnatic has consistently picked Nami and Braum as supports and pairing them with a Kalista or Sivir can bring extremely dominant engages and team fighting impact. When they’re in game they’re going to want to get vision in and around the opponent’s jungle, they have the potential to dominate the earlier stages of the game if they push their potential. If they can find skirmishes then they should take advantage of them, they’ve got great assassination potential along with breaking the front and back lines of their opponent’s team. If they can find these skirmishes and come out on top then they’ll be able to obliterate objectives with their composition, even destroying structures shouldn’t be too much of a problem but they’re going to need to watch out as they can be fairly easily picked off if they fall behind. Abusing skirmishes and working around their opponents positioning in the later stages of the game and when team fighting is how I expect them to build a lead significant enough to give them the ability to contest the matches and even the series.

H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoLH2k are likely to pick strong laning champions In their duo lane, they’ve got a rather passive farming style there which I would like to see go slightly more aggressive, especially with Zyra being a favourable support pick for them; which works extremely well when paired with an Ashe or Caitlyn. Their jungler has a versatile champion pool and is able to adapt to the team’s needs, I’ll be looking for a Kindred or Elise from them depending on what will work best with their desired composition. Their middle lane has favoured Viktor over other recently desired champions and Lissandra or Azir could be strong replacement picks for them, giving them strong disengage or potential to burst their opponents. The top lane of H2k will contest the Gragas top lane pick but I think Maokai will be a suitable fall-back choice, giving them great area of effect control, ability to pick off and control their opponents. When they’re on the rift they’re going to want to try and slow down tempo gained from their opponents, they’re going to want to control and deny vision appropriately to either pick off opponents or avoid large scale fights in the earlier stages of the game along with keeping themselves safe from being picked off themselves. Vision around the top and middle lane with a flurry of wards on the bottom side of the map will be appropriate with a possible early focus on controlling the dragon objective, denying it from the opposing team. They have strong disengage if things go badly for them so if things turn south they’ve got a safety net; or they can turn the fight around by separating their opponents and cleaning them up. If they can work around their opponents and find suitable fights where they can quickly catch out few opponents then they should be able to come out on top, gain a lead and then push or control vision around Baron Pit for the later stages of the game. This will allow them to control more of the map and slowly work to break Fnatic down. I think if they play this slowly and in a controlled style, making decision based on their current position and possible outcomes, then they should be able to slowly build a lead to contest the victory and the series.

Prediction: Fnatic Victory. I think there are going to be some really close moments throughout the games but Fnatic have shown that they can control matches from bad positions, take hold of a lead and run away with it. This will be difficult for H2k to overcome and I expect them to fall under the pressure of Fnatic.

FC Schalke 04 vs Origen EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 2

Week 2 | Day 2 – Match #3: FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo FC Schalke 04 vs. Origen EU LCS Team Logo LoL Origen

Start Time: June 10, 12:00 PM PDT/ 03:00 PM EDT/ 21:00 CEST

Origen managed to tie their series against Team Vitality, which is definitely a step up for them, but managing the surprisingly strong S04 is going to be difficult, they’re going to need to avoid giving away even the smallest of advantages if they want to tie the series or take it away. S04 have 1 of each possible series outcome under their belt whereas Origen’s only positive is a single tied series. I think S04 are at an advantage here but Origen could come out to surprise us much like their day 1 performance this week.

Prediction: Tied Victory. At first I thought S04 might be able to come out on top of the series and take another victory but their week 2 day 1 performance was lacklustre against Splyce and I think Origen could have a similar effect against them.

Vitality vs ROCCAT EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 2

Week 2 | Day 2 – Match #4: Vitality EU LCS Team Logo LoL Vitality vs. ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoL ROCCAT

Start Time: June 10, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST

Roccat have looked stronger this split, significantly, and much like Splyce they’re being a thorn in the sides of their opponents. They’re yet to drop a series but they’ve also not taken a victory yet which is exactly the same with Team Vitality. VIT haven’t been able to close a series regardless of how strong they’ve looked at times, maybe one of these teams will finally take their first victory of the split.

I think Roccat are actually at a slight advantage here; after last split it’s odd to be typing that but they’ve shown that they’re an improved team and have contested matches against some really strong teams. It’s certainly not going to be easy and we could be looking at another tied series for both teams but Roccat are certainly slightly favoured with their match history.

Logo of LCS EU Team RoccatRoccat are going to want to try and get those comfortable and strong meta picks that they’ve stuck with so far, quite surprisingly they’ve picked Trundle in the top lane often and I expect to see it once again unless Maokai is their go-to. Their jungle is likely to assist the lanes with a Gragas, Kindred or Lee Sin to team fight control and strong map pressure, this will relieve stress from the middle lane which will more than likely be a control mage such as Lissandra or Viktor however we’ve been seeing a lot of Vladimir lately. Their bottom lane is extremely diverse and can adapt nicely to compliment the team but I think we’ll be looking at a Sivir or Caitlyn in the bottom lane paired with a Braum or Janna. When they’re locked in and ready they’re going to want to play the early game fairly slowly, their picks begin to thrive in the middle and later stages of the game so they’re going to need to work around their opponents unless they have a player advantage. Making sure they have vision across the bottom side of the river with slight top lane warding should keep them safe from any unexpected movements and they’ll have time to scale. Once they’re comfortable and itemised they should look to either engage their own fights or counter engage, they have pretty good kiting potential and will thrive in choke points. They will always have the option to make picks on their opponents and try and gain a player advantage for objectives but it’s not easy. If they can maintain a steady gold gain then they should be able to capitalise by taking down their opponents later on and closing any disadvantages by pressuring those structures and objectives across the map. If things happen to go in their favour in the earlier stages of the game then we could be looking at an extremely strong and dominating snowball effect, making their champions scale significantly quicker and becoming nearly impossible to deal with. They’re going to need to play around their champion scaling unless they catch their opponents making mistakes, this should give them an advantage later on and that’s their key to taking a series.

Vitality - EU LCS team LogoTeam Vitality are likely to pick Olaf in the top lane or take Trundle to deny the pick for Roccat, this will be compliment with an Elise or Kindred in the jungle that can assist in pressuring the lanes and giving them pretty strong early game pressure. Their middle lane has preferred Viktor over other current picked champions and is likely to fall back on Lissandra or trying to pick up Vladimir. Their bottom lane has picked up some unlikely things but they’ve shown comfort on Ezreal and I’d like to see them take Sivir, pairing it with a Nami or Kami could be extremely potent. Once they’re on the rift they’re going to want to get a bit of defensive warding down around the top and middle lanes, going more aggressive in the bottom lane if possible. There’s often been a top lane focus in these matches but I think if they’ve got that potent bottom lane then ganks should be easier and Elise could quite easily impact that lane to get it ahead. When a potent lane like Ezreal and Karma gets ahead early then they’re extremely troublesome for the entire opposing team and VIT could easily play off of that, controlling objectives and having extremely strong sieging potential with the amount of poke they’ll have stored in their composition. If their potent bottom lane is unavailable then they’re going to want to pressure objectives by poking their opponents and working around them, making sure they have an extensive amount of vision around their focused location. Poking down their opponents is going to be pretty key, hard engages might not favour their team so they’re going to need to adapt throughout the series to take the victory they’re looking for.

Prediction: Tied Victory. I’d love to be able to side with a single team here but both Roccat and Vitality have shown that they’re difficult to overcome; they’re adaptable and know how to overcome difficult situations. For those reasons I think they’re going to play extremely well against each other and tie the series.

Giants vs Unicorns of Love EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 2

Week 2 | Day 2 – Match #5: Giants EU LCS Team Logo LoL Giants vs. Unicorns of Love EU LCS Team Logo LoL  Unicorns of Love

Start Time: June 10, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST

Giants are currently sitting at the bottom of the ladder and are looking like they’re in an extremely difficult position, they’ve been fighting for their LCS place but improvement is scarce. Unicorns of Love have had a rough time themselves but they took a victory previously and they could come out on top once again. Giants are going to need to pull ahead here to start making their way up the ladder and avoiding those negative outcomes at the end of the split.

Prediction: Unicorns of Love Victory. Giants have had very little impact against every team so far, lots of deaths and misplays have held them back and I think Unicorns of Love are going to be able to gain significant leads to take both games of this series.

EU LCS Summer Split Week 2 – Day 1:

Kicking off the EU LCS was certainly exciting and helped us build ideas about who’s a top standing team and who’s not quite performing up to scratch. For week 2 day 1 we’ll be focusing on 2 matches out of the 5 and the remaining matches will be quickly concluded in their own separate paragraphs. We’ll be diving into Team Vitality vs. Origen and Fnatic vs. Unicorns of Love as our focus matches because the opposing teams are similar on the ladder and things could shake up a lot this week. Make sure you tune in on Thursday, June 9th!

H2K Gaming vs Giants EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 2

Week 2 | Day 1 – Match #1: H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoL H2K Gaming vs. Giants EU LCS Team Logo LoL Giants

Start Time: June 9, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST

H2k are looking a little rough around the edges but they’re not exactly in a bad place, they’re still able to efficiently control games but things don’t always work out for them. Giants are yet to take a victory but we’re early in the split and this could be the game for them to take a step forward. I’d give the advantage to H2k but Giants could easily pull out a win for themselves.

Prediction: H2k Victory. I think they’ll take the series 2:0, things might look a little shaky and there could be a bit of back and forth but I could see them taking the victory here and avoiding a tie; they’re a better performing team from what we’ve seen so far.

Fnatic vs Unicorns of Love EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 2

Week 2 | Day 1 – Match #2: Fnatic EU LCS Team Logo LoL Fnatic vs. Unicorns of Love EU LCS Team Logo LoL  Unicorns of Love

Start Time: June 9, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST

Fnatic are looking competitive, they’re ready to thrive and take back their place at the top of the EU LCS but they’ve got work to do and improvements to crack down on. They’re definitely a strong team but falling to VIT so early could set them back. Unicorns of Love are looking fair but they took some dominating losses which could be making them look worse than they are.

Fnatic appear to be at an advantage based on statistics so far, including individual player strengths, but Unicorns of Love are known to pack punches when they need to and they could bring out some surprises against Fnatic if they’re prepared.

Logo of LCS EU Team FnaticFnatic are likely to try and take hold of Lee Sin in the jungle and pair it with an Ekko or Gragas in the top lane to build skirmishing potential. Their middle lane has been playing with assassins along with control mages so we could be looking at a range of champion choices, spreading from Zed and LeBlanc all the way to Azir or Viktor however with their most likely choices an assassin might be optimal. Their bottom lane has picked Kalista more often than not so if it’s available I expect it to be picked up; this’ll be paired with a Braum or Janna. Once they’re on the rift they should try and get a defensive line of vision on the top side of the map and rotate vision on the bottom side, shifting it from a neutral position around river and slowly placing it in or around their opponent’s jungle. They’re likely to try and pick off opponents so mobility and rotations will play a large factor in how this game plays out. If they can pick off a few opponents they can gain objective control, this will propel them ahead and give them both a team fighting advantage and opportunities to push into the base of their opponents. Following a similar style of skirmishing and picking off opponents whilst rotating vision to press sieges is a strong suit for them to win a game and control the series.

Logo of LCS EU Team Unicorns of LoveUnicorns of Love are likely to pick up Kindred or Elise in the jungle paired with an aggressive middle laner such as LeBlanc; this could however be changed for a control mage which is favoured at the moment so Azir or Viktor could make an appearance. Their bottom lane has picked different marksmen in each game so far but I think an Ezreal or Caitlyn might show up for them again; which will be paired with a tanky champion such as Taric or Braum. Last but certainly not least is the top lane, where the mundane tank top meta keeps the champion pool thin! We’re likely to see an Ekko or Trundle in the top lane from UoL unless they’re switching things up with a Swain pick. When they’re locked in and ready they’re going to want to build a defensive line of vision to give them time to scale up, if they can avoid skirmishes then they’re definitely able to come out on top. It’s going to take a while for them to scale up but with patience they’ll be able to contest objectives and take team fights, this is their best chance to take away structures on the map and take away Fnatic’s chances of winning. With strong positioning and wave management they’ll be able to choke the chances Fnatic have of climbing back in and will give UoL the economy they need to take the win, contest the series and possibly even come out on top.

Prediction: Fnatic Victory. I think one of the games is going to end up being quite close but I believe Fnatic are the superior team; they should be able to fit comfortably into their play style and work their opponents into giving them a lead. These leads will be difficult to play against and are likely to give Fnatic the series.

Splyce vs FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 2

Week 2 | Day 1 – Match #3: Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoL Splyce vs. FC Schalke 04 EU LCS Team Logo FC Schalke 04

Start Time: June 9, 12:00 PM PDT/ 03:00 PM EDT/ 21:00 CEST

S04 have shown that they’re capable of bringing us great games and Splyce are doing quite well themselves. This could be quite an exciting game if both of these teams are playing at their best, both have shown great potential and this series could fall in either teams favour but I think S04 might look better during the series. Splyce took hits from both Roccat and VIT so they’re currently lacking a victory this split, this could be their chance.

Prediction: Tied Victory. I think both of these teams are going to have their chances to put on great performances, even though their skill isn’t too apparent at the moment they’re looking like they’re on quite a similar level and I think both teams are going to take a game away from the series.

Vitality vs Origen EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 2

Week 2 | Day 1 – Match #4: Vitality EU LCS Team Logo LoL Vitality vs. Origen EU LCS Team Logo LoL Origen

Start Time: June 9, 08:00 AM PDT/ 11:00 AM EDT/ 17:00 CEST

Team Vitality are yet to take a conclusive victory and have ended up in ties so far, Origen is in a worse boat however because they’re yet to even take a tie; falling into a position at the bottom of the ladder. However it’s still early on and there’s a lot that can be shown so let’s take a look.

Team Vitality looks like they’re at a nice advantage here but Origen have always had a few tricks up their sleeves. With current changes to their roster, Origen could be looking strong than previously shown or they could be worse off. I think they’re making a small improvement, not in terms of individual player skill though, which will help the team environment but will it be enough?

Origen - EU LCS Team LogoOrigen has made a change in the bottom lane and xPeke is signed to come back and perform! This is great for long term LCS fans because of how phenomenal he could previously perform but can he hold his own in the bottom lane? He’ll more than likely pick up champions that fit the meta nicely along with allowing his transition from the middle lane to thrive, I’ll be expecting champions such as Ezreal, Lucian and possibly even Corki paired with Alistar or Janna in the bottom lane. Their top lane has shown a variety of champions already but Maokai has been a favourite, if it’s not picked then I hope a Swain or Vladimir will be picked for them, this will be complemented by a Kindred in the jungle. Their middle lane has a deep champion pool but I expect Viktor or Azir to be preferred picks for them as the wave clear and control they provide is substantial. Once they’re on the rift they’re going to want to play passively for as long as possible, stalling out farming and making sure they don’t fall behind. They’re going to need to set up defensive warding around their lanes along with in the river close to objectives; if they look to take objectives they’re going to want to rotate their vision around and possibly get a few deep wards to alert them of incoming conflicts. Avoiding early skirmishing could assist them in evaluating their own team strength and will allow them to take those later game team fights. Those later fights are how they can push through their opponent’s defences and open up chances for victory. They can play around their opponents and control the game from a strong position if they have the patience, this could get them ahead in the series.

Vitality - EU LCS team LogoTeam Vitality look like the stronger performing team so far but they’re going to need to have a strong champion select to take strides forward. Their top lane has heavily preferred Maokai paired with a Kindred or Graves in the jungle. The bottom lane of VIT has a deep pool of champions to select from but I think we’re going to see Ezreal or Lucian paired with Braum or Karma. The middle lane will be important, wave clear and control are preferred traits of a middle lane champion at the moment but Vitality have been playing around with assassins such as LeBlanc, or they’ll go with something safer like Lissandra once again. Once they’ve locked in and are ready they’re going to want to get vision across the river with a few in or around their opponent’s jungle, this will let them pick off opponents and cause skirmishes to push them ahead. If they manage to gain a lead then they’ll be able to push for a deeper line of vision and easier objective control; this will set them up nicely to control the map and eventually push through the Origen line-up to crack the base. As long as they play with their lead nicely they’ll be able to take very dominating fights which will skewer Origen’s chances of crawling back. Gaining an earlier lead and using it to pressure the map through vision and catching out opponents is a likely way for them to take a game and get ahead to take the series.

Prediction: Team Vitality Victory. I think Vitality will claw 2 wins in the series here and take their first victory of the split. With Origen making another change they’re going to be a little un-practiced and I think it’s going to impact their already upsetting performances whilst Team Vitality have been able to improve.

ROCCAT vs G2 Esports EU LCS Summer Split 2016 Week 2

Week 2 | Day 1 – Match #5: ROCCAT EU LCS Team Logo LoL ROCCAT vs. G2 Esports EU LCS Team Logo LoL G2 Esports

Start Time: June 9, 10:00 AM PDT/ 01:00 PM EDT/ 19:00 CEST

G2 Esports are currently undefeated and are showing why they were deserving of taking the spring split but it’s not all going to be easy. Roccat have shown improvement and could put up a good fight but it might be just a bit too much for them. The scores are against Roccat here but we’ve seen more surprising things happen during the LCS and G2 have shown that they can make mistakes; giving Roccat their chance.

Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. With how well they’ve been performing I think Roccat are going to have an extremely hard time here, G2 are looking like their former glorious selves and could dominate this split if things go in their favour. This could just be another step forward for them.
