Group Stage #1 – LoL Worlds 2016

The first part of the group stage embraces the first week of the 2016 League of Legends World Championship and is going to start on September 29th to impress fans and spectators all over the world. While group stage #1 takes place there are 3 groups actively playing each day, the missing group will be allowed to take a rest and watch their opponents. The anticipated match between both Western teams Counter Logic Gaming and G2 Esports will herald the start of a hopefully memorable World Championship. Group stage #1 will end on October 2nd and provides an intermediate result for all participating teams in this international showdown. ahq e-Sports Club vs. INTZ e-Sports - League of Legends World Championship 2016

Match #1: Team AHQ e-sports club Logo - LoL Worlds ahq e-Sports Club vs. Team Intz Logo - LoL Worlds INTZ e-Sports

Start Time: October 2nd, 04:00 PM PDT / 07:00 PM EDT / 01:00 CEST (next day)

INTZ Esports managed to wow the crowd as they took their 1st game of worlds and took down Edward Gaming. This hype quickly died as they lost to H2k afterwards but in both games they had shown great mastery of the game. AHQ had a rough game against EDG but took down H2k, these teams are in a reversed position but once this is concluded we’ll finally have a more definite power ranking of the group.

ahq e-Sports Club LMS Team Logo LoLAHQ lost to EDG but managed to take down H2k, this has them in a comfortable position on the ladder at the moment but things could go badly at the end of the week. To avoid this they’re going to want to take this game and sit in the top 2, this will set them up for week 2 of the group stage. They’re certainly capable of it and have shown the potential to push forward.

Team INTZ e-Sports Logo - LoL WorldsITZ had a phenomenal performance on day 1 but have been unable to push further forward. It’s no fault of their own though, many teams have been unable to capitalise on a victory push during the 1st week. This is ITZ chance to prove themselves and a competent and capable team, they’re able to challenge the stronger teams in the group and should be capitalising on their opponent’s mistakes or aggression, as they did on day 1.

Even though ITZ managed to take a win against what’s highly considered the strongest team in the group, AHQ appear to be in an advantageous situation here. They’ve got strong use of early aggression and have shown a more consistent style of play. So far ITZ have shown that they’ve got the potential to be a phenomenal team but consistency is getting in their way. They’re unable to put on phenomenal performances regularly and this could hold them back.

AHQ will need to watch out for the ITZ rotations but should be able to maintain their lanes and propel forwards during the middle stages of the game where their own aggression and engagements can build them a lead. ITZ will need to try and build a gold lead during the earlier stages of the game to gain control.

Prediction: AHQ Esports Club Victory. INTZ Esports Club have the potential to put on a phenomenal performance and can easily contest this game, they’ve shown that against EDG, but because of their lacking consistency I think AHQ will walk away with the game. AHQ have shown that they’re capable or taking games and capitalizing when they have a lead and I expect to see more examples of that during this game.

Edward Gaming vs. H2K Gaming - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #2: Team Edward Gaming Logo - LoL Worlds Edward Gaming vs. Team H2k Logo - LoL Worlds H2K Gaming

Start Time: October 2nd, 05:00 PM PDT / 08:00 PM EDT / 02:00 CEST (next day)

So far this group has had many showings of great potential, both of these teams are certainly capable of contesting this game against their opponents but it’ll be challenging. Edward Gaming fell on their 1st day against the WildCard INTZ Esports; this was a bit of a hit to their standing as they were expected to be the strongest team in the group. H2k overcame the WildCard powerhouse so this group is looking a bit wild, who will come out on top here and push further up the group?

EDward Gaming LPL Team Logo LoLEdward Gaming, after falling short on the 1st day they’ve managed to pull back after taking down AHQ, they’ve shown that they’re certainly as strong as a lot of people had expected but is their consistency lacking? They’re going to need to prove to everyone here that the 1st game they played on the Worlds stage was a fluke. This team has the strength, strategy and potential to come out on top of the group, or was everyone wrong?

H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoLH2k looked a bit rough when facing off against AHQ but represented themselves and their region well when they managed to take down the surprising strong WildCard team, INTZ Esports. If H2k can stay relatively consistent throughout the group stage they might be able to pull ahead but this match here could be considered their most difficult of week 1. If they can play the earlier stages of the game with strategic precision they might be able to open up opportunities to catch out their opponents and pull ahead.

Edward Gaming are still at an advantage here, they’ve shown significantly more potential over the last split and although they took a rough hit at the start they were just preparing themselves for the weeks to come. EDG are on the way to redeeming themselves and taking down H2k, the European no.2 seeded team, should solidify their position in the group.

H2k will need to watch out for any early strategic movements from EDG, coming up with or executing their own will be a challenge but it’s what they’ll need to build a lead. Once later stage team fighting comes around H2k will be more comfortable, if they can stall to that point then they’ll be able to contest the game.

Prediction: Edward Gaming Victory. EDG are a fairly reliable and dominant team, they’ve shown that they’ve got the skillset to take down their opponents in a calculated and strategic way and this game could turn into another example of that. H2k will be strongest around the middle stages of the game but EDG have the ability to push ahead early and set up with an advantage, leading them to a victory.

Albus NOX Luna vs. G2 Esports - League of Legends World Championship 2016
Match #3: Team Albus Logo - LoL Worlds Albus Nox Luna vs. Team G2 esports Logo - LoL Worlds G2 Esports

Start Time: October 2nd, 06:00 PM PDT / 09:00 PM EDT / 03:00 CEST (next day)

Albus NoX Luna is looking like an extremely threatening team to this group. They pushed ROX on the earlier days in the group stage with some early aggression but were unable to take the win, on Day 3 of Worlds they managed to do something similar to Counter Logic Gaming and they took a victory, pushing them up the group. G2 Esports have been challenged by every team and have been unable to take a win yet, could this be their chance?

Team Albus Nox Luna Logo - LoL WorldsANX are certainly proving themselves to be a challenge for this group, not only did they contest their 1st game against the team that was considered the strongest in the group but they also managed to take down the North American team Counter Logic Gaming. This WildCard team has a lot to show and they’re on their way to making it out of the group stage, making history.

G2 Esports - EU LCS team LogoG2 have had weak performances, let’s not sugar coat it. They’ve been fairly unreliable but on Day 3 they did look more comfortable. They fell to ROX but put up one hell of a fight. This is the G2 that we need to see, G2 are hitting a rough point in this group stage so a lot is on the line for them here, they’ll be giving it their all to make some steps up in the group, will it work out though?

Albus NoX Luna are looking like a strong team, they’ve had fairly reliable performances. Their consistency has been on point, being able to threaten Rox and then taking down CLG, so they’re certainly a team to watch in this group. They’re setting themselves up to make League of Legends history, a WildCard team making it out of the group stage. G2 Esports are in for a bit of trouble but if they’ve put enough effort into their strategies they could contest this as they did with their recent game against Rox. G2 will need to create some space in the earlier stages of the game, not wanting to fall to early aggression from NoX, and will need to create advantageous opportunities slowly to come out on top.

Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. After their day 3 performance against ROX I think G2 are now more comfortable. With this new found comfort I’m sure they’ll be able to push past any early aggression for ANX, set themselves up for team fighting and SLOWLY take away the game. It’s going to be quite a challenge but they’re in need of this and I expect their desperation to give them the little push they need to make changes and come out on top.

Counter Logic Gaming vs. ROX Tigers - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #4: Team CLG Logo - LoL Worlds Counter Logic Gaming vs. Team Rox Tigers Logo - LoL Worlds ROX Tigers

Start Time: October 2nd, 07:00 PM PDT / 10:00 PM EDT / 04:00 CEST (next day)

Rox Tigers are currently the only team in the group to not lose a game, they’ve shown great ability to adapt throughout a game and have always come out on top of their opponents. Counter Logic Gaming have shown that they have some phenomenal strategies to pull off, will they be enough to take down the top team in the group though?

Counter Logic Gaming NA LCS Team Logo LoLThe way in which CLG handled their game against G2 was phenomenal, their use of early mind games gave them a map advantage without needing to pressure or create opportunities. If they can pull off something similar against Rox they might be able to push ahead and use their fantastic macro management to push ahead in the game.

ROX Tigers LCK Team Logo LoLROX are currently the top team in the group and are looking to keep their position, they’re looking like the most consistent team at Worlds and if they can keep it up then they’re sure to make it to the knockout stage. Rox Tigers have shown great strength with both strategy and control, utilizing this against CLG might be a bit more challenging but it’s a must.

Rox Tigers are most certainly at an advantage here; they’re the undefeated team of the group and are currently sitting at the top.  They’ve shown a phenomenal ability to adapt throughout a game and change things up depending on their composition, disadvantages or weaknesses. When playing against ANX they had to change things up before coming out on top and they had to do something similar against G2. Counter Logic Gaming are going to need to use their most reliable strategies to pull ahead against Rox but after falling to Albus NoX Luna will they be able to pull off such a thing? If they can mind game the earlier stages of the game they might be able to open some opportunities for early game aggression but even then, can they capitalize on a lead against the adaptable ROX?

Prediction: Rox Tigers Victory. Rox Tigers are looking like a staple World Championship team. They’re difficult to beat, they’ve got strategies in store for more difficult opponents and have been able to adapt whilst playing a game. Adapting whilst playing a game is what’s setting them apart from their opponents, they’ve been a challenge for everyone and always come out on top; I expect to see it happen once again.

SK Telecom T1 vs. Flash Wolves - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #5: Team SK Telakom T1 Logo - LoL Worlds SK Telecom T1 vs. Team Flash Wovles Logo - LoL Worlds Flash Wolves

Start Time: October 2nd, 08:00 PM PDT / 11:00 PM EDT / 05:00 CEST (next day)

SK Telecom T1 have already made a minor impact at this World Championship, they were the no.2 seed from their region after qualifying through championship points but have already managed to push Cloud 9 down the group. Flash Wolves have shown phenomenal use of early game aggression to build a lead; this will be useful against SKTT1 but losing their game against IMay has brought their strength into question. Can they really take down the defending champions?

SK Telecom T1 LCK Team Logo LoLSKTT1, the defending champions, have shown great use of both micro and macro management in a short space of time. They’re looking like their usual selves, being able to bully and abuse the weaker points of their opponents. If they’re looking to pick apart FW they might find it more difficult, early aggression can often work against SKT so they’ll need to watch out.

Flash Wolves LMS Team Logo LoLFW have shown phenomenal use of early game aggression, they managed to push C9 into a grovelling position during the earlier stages of their game on Day 3. If they can utilize this earlier aggression to gain control they should be able to set up the middle stages of the game, they’re going to need to be more assertive and will need to engage more often! This should let them gain and maintain a lead but it’s going to be extremely challenging.

SK Telecom T1 look to be in an advantageous position here, not only do they have a lot on the line as the defending champions but they’re looking to set themselves up to make history at this year’s World Championship. They’ve shown great use of control over their opponents, pick at weaker links and punishing bad map movements. They’re going to want to continue this style of play against FW to try and gain a lead; they’ll need to watch out for early aggression though! If Flash Wolves can get a hold of an earlier lead through aggression in the earlier stages of the game then they should be able to open up some objective based opportunities. This will set them up for the middle stages of the game where they’re going to want to be assertive and will need to look for regular engagements. This will push SKTT1 in a difficult position and could set FW up for a good game.

Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. SKTT1 have shown that they’re not stranger to difficult game, even if FW manage to utilize their early aggression to gain a lead I expect SKTT1 to have that resolved by the middle stages of the game. They’ve got a methodical style of play which relies heavily on quick calculation, using this against FW will be advantageous and I expect the main fights of the game to break out around objectives in favour of SKTT1. This is how SKTT1 will pull ahead and gain control of the game.

Cloud9 vs. I May - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #6: Team Cloud9 Logo - LoL Worlds Cloud9 vs. Team I May Logo - LoL Worlds I May

Start Time: October 3rd, 09:00 PM PDT / 12:00 AM EDT (next day) / 06:00 CEST (next day)

I May have already shown potential phenomenal skill, they’re sitting in a fairly comfortable position in the group after taking a win off of Flash Wolves. They’ve got some challenging games ahead but if they continue to maintain themselves then they’ll be in a good position to contend their up and coming games. Cloud 9 has looked like one of the more rough teams performing from North America. They were unable to take down SKTT1 and ran into a significant amount of trouble against Flash Wolves; they’re going to need to do a lot to come out on top of IMay.

Cloud9 NA LCS Team Logo LoLC9 have been able to have much of an impact so far, pardon the pun. This patch was supposed to be advantageous for them but they’ve been unsuccessful at utilizing some of the more aggression top lane champion options and their jungler has been struggling against the competition. They’ll need to make a few changes to their compositions but still hold the potential of a top North American team; this game could be in their hands.

I May LPL Team Logo LoLPacked with some surprise, IMay have already made some steps forward in their group after they managed to take down Flash Wolves. Flash Wolves looked extremely strong against C9, for the most part, so surely IMay are in a good position to contest this game? It’ll all depend on the earlier stages of the game; aggression is being favoured at the moment so we’ll need to see a lot of action in the earlier stages of the game. If IMay can take a lead then they’ll most certainly take the game.

IMay are looking like the more advantageous of the 2 performing teams here. Cloud 9 has looked uncomfortable so far at the World Championship, sure they’ve been stuck against some really strong and well performing teams but that shouldn’t hold them back. Cloud 9 were unable to overcome SKTT1 and have been having a difficult time ever since. IMay are in a more comfortable position, they’ve already taken a win and with how well they’ve shown they can perform then C9 could be in a lot of trouble here. Cloud 9 will need to control the earlier stages of the game, changing up a couple of their champion picks could be advantageous for this. Early aggression from either team could quickly throw this game away or solidify it, it’s a risk that C9 might have to take. They’re looking a bit unstable at the moment and if they want to come out on top they’ll need to pull out all the stops.

Prediction: IMay Victory. Cloud 9 have looked extremely rough in comparison to a lot of the other performing teams in this group, changes need to be made for them. Maybe they’re lacking confidence? Either way it’s really hindering them. IMay have shown that they’re capable of contesting and taking games off of the teams in this group and I think they’ll walk away from this with another win in the group.

 Group Stage #1 – Day 3 – Preview & Predictions

Counter Logic Gaming vs. Albus Nox Luna - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #1: Team CLG Logo - LoL Worlds Counter Logic Gaming vs. Team Albus Logo - LoL Worlds Albus Nox Luna

Start Time: October 1st, 04:00 PM PDT / 07:00 PM EDT / 01:00 CEST (next day)

CLG have recently been having a hard time as their Summer had them falling behind in comparison to other teams in the region. ANX are feeling high and mighty with an impressing 3 win streak making them another Wildcard team to not be taken lightly, we can all expect a thrilling game with a great atmosphere and a lot of tension between both teams, Counter Logic Gaming will be heading

Counter Logic Gaming NA LCS Team Logo LoLCounter Logic Gaming are an undeniably strong team who have a lot of experience under their belt, they know how to work well together given the time they have been with each other, they are familiar with their whole teams play style, despite their recently losing streak at the LCS summer playoffs and their rough end to the 2016 NA LCS Summer Split. I’m sure we can all expect some great things coming from the CLG who managed to take the European no.1 seeded team.

Team Albus Nox Luna Logo - LoL WorldsWhile Albus Nox Luna are a new, up and coming, team they show dedication and moral as they have been dominating their regional games; They have already showcased some of their potential as they shook up ROX and surprised with some early game aggression. This aggression is what could set them apart from the other teams at this tournament who play more slowly.

Prediction: Counter Logic Gaming Victory. Not only does Counter Logic Gaming have significantly more international experience they are also a veteran team who’ve been training for this for an exceedingly long time. Counter Logic Gaming have been a regularly team contesting top positions in their region and they’ve already showcased how phenomenal their performances can be. Their strategies will continue to impress.

ROX Tigers vs. G2 Esports - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #2: Team Rox Tigers Logo - LoL Worlds ROX Tigers vs. Team G2 esports Logo - LoL Worlds G2 Esports

Start Time: October 1st, 05:00 PM PDT / 08:00 PM EDT / 02:00 CEST (next day)

Rox Tigers ran into a bit of trouble on day 1 when some early aggression set them back, they quickly recuperated and took a game from their group. This set them ahead of G2 who fell during their 1st game but are looking for a regular redemption. Rox Tigers have shown great ability to adapt and with how strong their match history has proven to be then they’re setting up nicely to come out of this group in a strong position. G2 are certainly in a more difficult seat, will they be much of a challenge?

G2 Esports - EU LCS team LogoG2 Esports are the European no.1 seed but they’ve not proven to be much of a challenge so far, they’ve got a phenomenal match history behind them and a dedicated team to execute phenomenal strategies but if they continue to be challenged and defeated then they’ll be setting themselves up for a way back home. After qualifying for the World Championship people speculated that they’d be a little underwhelming but will still have a good impact, this will be one of their chances to prove themselves and the strength that their region holds.

ROX Tigers LCK Team Logo LoLROX Tigers have managed to take away a victory already and are stepping through their group stage, they’ve got their eyes looking forward and are preparing for the knockout stage but G2 could pose a threat here. If they’re considering the initial G2 performance as an outlier then we could be looking at a phenomenal game where Rox are tested, making them show some of true strengths. Rox are being favoured by most here but we shouldn’t underestimate these Worlds teams.

After ROX qualified for the World Championship, by winning the 2016 LCK Summer Playoffs, they’ve only shown more strength during this World Championship. They look to be at an advantage here, facing off against G2 Esports, because they’ve shown a more precise style of play which has resulted in more success. It’s official that ROX are a stronger performing international team but how long can they keep it up?

G2 Esports have shown that they’re capable of contesting a game but they’re going to need to do a lot more in a short period of time if they’re looking to take down ROX. It’s possible that they were having a bad day or a bad game but G2 have a terrible history against international teams and Worlds could be another showcase for that. They’re going to need to pressure Rox in the early game and try to never let up on pressure.

Prediction: Rox Tigers Victory. With their region showing phenomenal capability at this tournament so far there’s no doubt that Rox are a bit ahead of the curve. They fell to some early aggression on their 1st day but will review it and improve. They’ve shown a great ability to adapt throughout a game and come out on top. Even if G2 take an early lead it’s hard to say they’ll take away the game because Rox are a quick team with multiple ways to work around their opponents. Because of this i think they’ll come out on top and push further through the group.

Flash Wolves vs. Cloud9 - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #3: Team Flash Wovles Logo - LoL Worlds Flash Wolves vs. Team Cloud9 Logo - LoL Worlds Cloud9

Start Time: October 1st, 06:00 PM PDT / 09:00 PM EDT / 03:00 CEST (next day)

Flash Wolves have a promising history behind them; they’ve shown great competitive skill on an international level before whereas Cloud9 have often crumbled in the group stage. Flash Wolves have already shown a great amount of strength in their own region but their recent international matches have been slightly worse, this could be a great opening and opportunity for cloud9 to take a leap forward in their group. Cloud9 may have a bad history against international teams but with how drastically they improved as the NA LCS Summer Split was coming to a close i think we should expect great things from them.

Flash Wolves LMS Team Logo LoLFlash Wolves qualified through the Summer Playoffs and it wasn’t exactly unexpected. They held on to 2nd place in their region and rarely dropped a game, they came out on top of their region and are going to be aiming for a stronger position that the previous year’s Worlds Championship tournament. I think Flash Wolves have a lot to show here, they’ve got a strong roster and with the recent patch changes they could thrive in comparison to a lot of other competing teams.

Cloud9 NA LCS Team Logo LoLCloud9 managed to improve a phenomenal amount as the NA LCS Summer Split was coming to a close, it might not be enough for them though. All competing teams here are world class and have made huge improvements of their own; if Cloud9 haven’t adapted to the patch quickly enough or fixed their champion pools they could face trouble. I’ve got faith, Cloud9 have often innovated and created their own strategies to come out on top and i think this will be a great opportunity for them to showcase such a formidable skill.

I think Cloud9 are at a bit of an advantage here, they don’t hold much weight in the group stages usually but this time things are different. Cloud9 are well practiced and have more international experience than before, the patch favours a lot of their players and i think it’s going to push them ahead than Flash Wolves. Cloud9’s jungler has been a long term Zac player and with how strong her is at the moment i expect it to make an appearance eventually, the patch also pushes more strength to their top lane which will make it feared.

Flash Wolves are going to need to be careful of potential jungle movement and the snowballing potential of the top lane but should be able to equalise the earlier aggression and stay relevant, they’re going to want to abuse aggressive and surprising engagements to try and shut C9 down to take this away.

Prediction: Cloud 9 Victory. With how favourable this patch is for them i think they’re going to be ahead of Flash Wolves in terms of adapting to the patch. They’ve got good experience under their belt against international teams so they’re not exactly falling behind, this will be a great opportunity for them to push ahead in their group and give the NA region that little bit more hope for taking the tournament.

SK Telecom T1 vs. I May - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #4: Team SK Telakom T1 Logo - LoL Worlds SK Telecom T1 vs. Team I May Logo - LoL Worlds I May

Start Time: October 1st, 07:00 PM PDT / 10:00 PM EDT / 04:00 CEST (next day)

While we all know SKT to be an outstanding team not many people can tell us much about IMay unless they were relentlessly following the LPL. Although previously coming 3rd in both the LPL Summer Split and Playoffs SKT didn’t pull ahead of their own regional opponents and only manage to come in 3rd/2nd in the LCK Summer Split and Playoffs, I’m sure this is a game to keep an eye on as we see old legends vs. new up and coming teams. How well will the reigning champions hold up against new talent?

SK Telecom T1 LCK Team Logo LoLWhile we all know SKTT1 can put on some phenomenal performances this doesn’t mean they’re going to be at their prime constantly. They came 3rd/2nd in the Summer Split/Playoffs but don’t let this fool you! SKT have always had outstanding performance during international games, showing us why they are considered one of the best teams in the League of Legends Worlds history. They’re the reigning champions back to defend their title but new challengers await.

I May LPL Team Logo LoLI May are a new team to the World Championship and they’re going to be challenged on a regular basis. They will have to dedicate time and effort to becoming as good as SKTT1 but with how much time they’ve had to prepare I’m sure they stand a good chance. With some key movements and decision a game can turn around in just moments. IMay have had jokes made about them already but here’s their chance to prove people wrong.

SKTT1 are looking to hold onto that title. There’s some serious competition showing up this year with a strength never seen before at the World Championship. The methodical styles of play that are being showcased along with some phenomenal strategies means that only the best of the best teams will push ahead. SKTT1 have regularly fit this category and will be pushing to prove it once more. IMay will have a more difficult time but they’ve certainly got the potential to push forward, they could cause some trouble for SKTT1 here so keep an eye on them.

Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. SKTT1 have always been amazing during international games, it will be hard for IMay to win as they’re going be under a lot of pressure as a newer and lesser known team. They don’t have a lot of international experience which sets them apart quite significantly. SKT have great synergy with one another and I think it’ll show as a great comparison during this game. If IMay can’t turn on early aggression to set SKTT1 back then I’ll be looking for an SKTT1 confident win.

Splyce vs. Team SoloMid - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #5: Team Splyce Logo - LoL Worlds Splyce vs. Team SoloMid Logo - LoL Worlds Team SoloMid

Start Time: October 1st, 08:00 PM PDT / 11:00 PM EDT / 05:00 CEST (next day)

We’re certainly going to find some actions as we’re watching veterans Team Solo Mid vs. the European staple team, Splyce. Recently Splyce had a difficult time against the Unicorns of Love where they took the series with a 3:2 score; this had them qualifying for Worlds 2016 but Team Solo Mid isn’t exactly on a losing streak, coming first in both the 2016 summer Playoffs and Summer Split. Team Solo Mid have been a driving force in their region, will a no.2 European seeded team challenge them that much?

Team SoloMid NA LCS Logo LoLWhile TSM are sitting on one victory and one lost they know that this is a serious match regardless of who they are playing against, they have a lot of former experience with games like this so despite the tension and pressure I’m sure they can persist through it and show us all the TSM that we love to watch they are coming into worlds with high hopes, they may have a rookie in the roster but this team has dominated a region. A hard time in their 1st match won’t have them tilting, at least not yet.

Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoLWhile Splyce qualified for worlds they know there not the most known or feared team, they’re also not the most experienced with international matches so they’re going to have need to have done their research! In games like this there are many errors that can be made. Tension will be high but this European no.2 seed need some redemption and this is a great opportunity for them.

Team SoloMid definitely look to be at an advantage, they’ve reigned over an entire region for this past Summer Split. They’re continuing to showcase great skill and the 1st loss they took won’t get them down too much! They’re probably regretting their bottom control over the game but they’ll head into each consecutive game with more experience. Splyce took a rougher hit when falling but once again, these professional players won’t squander this opportunity. Splyce will need to force some aggression and make the most of this current patch if they want to claw ahead here.

Prediction: Team Solo Mid Victory. Team Solo Mid has more experience, is quick at adapting and will have made a significant amount of preparation for this game. Unlike their 1st game at Worlds I think Team Solo Mid will play more precise, they’ve still got a lot of games in the group stage to push ahead but doing so here would be a fantastic and expected start for them.

 - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #6: Team RNG Logo - LoL Worlds Royal Never Give Up vs. Team Samsung Logo - LoL Worlds Samsung

Start Time: October 2nd, 09:00 PM PDT / 12:00 AM EDT (next day) / 06:00 CEST (next day)

Royal Never Give Up is pushing forward and word is quickly spreading about the team’s potential impact at this year’s Worlds. Samsung Galaxy is proving themselves worthy, they’re representing an exceedingly strong region and they’re doing a great job and showcasing it. After taking down Splyce on the 1st day of Worlds Samsung are starting to show their potential in this group.

Royal Never Give Up LPL Team Logo LoLRNG have had a good showing this year, over the course of the entire year they’ve placed 1st more often than not, at least in their local region. Their performances quickly pushed them into a top position where they were regularly contesting 1st place, with this power they went through to qualify from their acquired championship points.

Samsung Galaxy LCK Team Logo LoLSSG didn’t hold up so well over the course of the year, they averaged 4th place and only managed to pull 6th place on the ladder during the LCK 2016 Spring Split. That didn’t stop them though! At the end of the 2016 LCK Summer Split they went on to prove themselves in the 2016 LCK Regional Qualifiers Tournament where they swept away every team in their way.

Regardless of SSG being a team from what is considered the best region in the world, I’d give the advantage to Royal Never Give Up. They’ve had strong performances so far over the small portion of the 2016 World Championship that we’ve seen. This combined with their regional dominance and experience as a team pushes them ahead.

Samsung Galaxy have also showcased some of their great skill, taking down Team Solo Mid was quite a hit to the western players. They did so with a fantastic line-up of champions and strategic thought right from champion selection. If they can pull off another strategic composition to work against their opponents then they’ll have improved their chances greatly.

Prediction: Royal Never Give Up Victory. Samsung Galaxy and Royal Never Give Up look to be at quite a similar performance level, this match will showcase the strength of these teams but only 1 of them can continue to rise at this point. I think RNG will push ahead because of their adaptions to a more aggressive meta game, taking down the No.1 North American seeded team and their expected potential to show.

 Group Stage #1 – Day 2 – Preview & Predictions

SK Telecom T1 vs. Cloud9 - League of Legends World Championship 2016
Match #1: Team SK Telakom T1 Logo - LoL Worlds SK Telecom T1 vs. Team Cloud9 Logo - LoL Worlds Cloud9

Start Time: September 30th, 04:30 PM PDT / 07:30 PM EDT / 01:30 CEST (next day)

SK Telecom T1 are the reigning champions from the 2015 World Championship Tournament, unfortunately they’ve been a bit off the ball this past split. They managed to qualify for this World Championship through circuit points and even though they had a fantastic spring, where they took the spring playoffs, their performances during the summer were really letting them down. Cloud 9 were in a similar situation where their summer performances were underwhelming but as the summer split came to a close they improved a significant amount and impressed every team in the region, are they equipped enough to come out on top here though?

SK Telecom T1 LCK Team Logo LoLSK Telecom T1 still remain to be one of the most feared teams in the league of legends competitive scene. This is often because of their formidable roster and their phenomenal speed at improving. They may have looked rough during the summer split but coming into the World Championship they’re going to have focused all of their efforts into being the strongest to hold their title.

Cloud9 NA LCS Team Logo LoLCloud9 were considered one of the strongest teams in their region before the split had come to an end, they were improving at such a fast pace that they quickly overtook the majority of their opponents and rarely ran into trouble. A lot of people were considering them the best team in the region and TSM feared the possible loss to them. TSM overcame them but C9 worked through the regional qualifiers with great showings, this very same C9 has improved more and are looking to storm worlds.

SK Telecom T1 looks to be at a slight advantage because their roster has more experience and better records against international teams. Cloud 9 is one of the best teams in their region but SKTT1 are one of the best teams in the world. Cloud 9 have the potential to have a huge impact during this match but SKTT1 still hold the title and the majority vote as to who will come out on top.

Cloud 9 have made huge improvements already and it could be enough to contest this match but with how strong SKTT1 are known to be we can only expect that they’ve continued their own streak of improvements and will be battling it out to hold their title. There’s a lot on the line for them so everyone will be expecting their best performances right from the start.

Prediction: SK Telecom T1 Victory. SKT T1 have often taken the World Championship by storm, destroying the group stage and having phenomenal performances in the knockout stage. This is how they’ve come to be the only team to take the world championship twice and why they’re the only team to ever make it back to defend. Because of their strengths with international teams I think they’ll take this game but it might not be as convincing as a lot of people think.

Flash Wolves vs. I May - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #2: Team Flash Wovles Logo - LoL Worlds Flash Wolves vs. Team I May Logo - LoL Worlds I May

Start Time: September 30th, 05:00 PM PDT / 08:00 PM EDT / 02:00 CEST (next day)

Flash Wolves were underestimated during the 2015 World Championship and that’s something that should never happen again. Flash Wolves put on some fantastic performances during their World Championship run previously and with how well they’ve been performing in their own region there is no doubt that they’re world class. IMay have consistently placed 3rd so they’re deserving of their position but are they performing on the same level as FW?

Flash Wolves LMS Team Logo LoLFlash Wolves have been doing well recently, they’ve actually been putting on strong performances for the majority of the year. A lot of discussion is circulating about how some of their solo lane strengths are going to shine during this tournament as the patch favours them slightly. Their top laner will be able to pressure a bit more but and it could be what FW needs to push ahead of the competition.

I May LPL Team Logo LoLI May, with slightly weaker performances throughout the year, holding an average of 3rd place, they’re going to need to step up their game to bring down the Flash Wolves. IMay qualified through the LPL regional qualifiers and took down Team WE on their journey; they’re definitely deserving of their place here and will be looking to showcase their skills and improvements.

Flash Wolves look to be in an advantageous position here; they’ve got a stronger match history and have significantly better consistency. In their region they were reigning supreme and were doing so with fantastic performances, when playing against IMay they’ll be in their comfort zone which could spell quick trouble.

IMay did a lot to reach this point, they qualified through their own merit and strengths but if they’re not able to thrive then they’ll quickly get stuck. In their own region they’ve been doing fine and have maintained a top 3 position, this might not be enough to save them from a no.1 team though.

Prediction: Flash Wolves Victory. Flash Wolves have had stronger performances in a strong region, they’re often surprising us with how outstanding they appear and going against IMay shouldn’t surprise them. IMay are going to put up a fight and contest the game but in the end I think Flash Wolves will take the win.

Team SoloMid vs. Samsung - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #3: Team SoloMid Logo - LoL Worlds Team SoloMid vs. Team Samsung Logo - LoL Worlds Samsung

Start Time: September 30th, 06:00 PM PDT / 09:00 PM EDT / 03:00 CEST (next day)

Team SoloMid has been a dominant force in their region and has been more than just difficult to overcome. They’ve lost very few matches over the course of the entire season and since they had a few changes to the staff and organisation they have been an extremely formidable team. Samsung Galaxy were on the lower end of their regions top teams but managed to make a significant climb at the end to showcase their potential for this tournament.

Team SoloMid NA LCS Logo LoLTeam SoloMid are a force, one that not many teams want to face. They had a few bad patches throughout the year but once summer came around they were an absolute wrecking ball. They are a veteran team with a lot of international experience under their belt. They’ve proven to be the undoubted no.1 team in their region but how well will it carry over?

Samsung Galaxy LCK Team Logo LoLSamsung are undoubtedly a talented team, they may have averaged 4th for the majority of the year but they were powering through the presumed strongest region in the world. With a lot of local experience under their belt this team really shouldn’t be underestimated and are presumed to be one of the stronger teams at this tournament.

Regardless of SSG being from what’s considered to be the strongest region I think TSM are at an advantage here. They’ve got good regional experience, have improved a great deal over the last split and have managed to improve their consistency so much that they’ve been performing as a constant powerhouse team.

Samsung Galaxy are a well-practiced team who utilize great use of both team fighting and macro management, they’re going to challenge TSM a great deal but there’s not much that says they’re going to be able to push ahead.

Prediction: Team SoloMid Victory. TSM are being spoken about as one of the strongest teams currently performing at this tournament and there’s good reason as to why. Unlike many other North American teams, even throughout the history of E-Sports, they’ve got a fantastic set of staff behind the players that keeps them in check; this makes them perform exceptionally and consistently. This is why I think they’ll push ahead of SSG and take a win.

Royal Never Give Up vs. Splyce - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #4: Team RNG Logo - LoL Worlds Royal Never Give Up vs. Team Splyce Logo - LoL Worlds Splyce

Start Time: September 30th, 07:00 PM PDT / 10:00 PM EDT / 04:00 CEST (next day)

Certainly going to be an interesting game as Royal Never Give Up and Splyce will be representing their regions and giving us an idea of regional strength. Currently both teams have a strong match history where they are propelling towards success, RNG currently on high hopes for Worlds after coming 2nd in the 2016 LPL Summer Playoffs, whereas SPY walks in motivated and ready after qualifying for Worlds after going 3:2 against Unicorns of love.

Royal Never Give Up LPL Team Logo LoLRoyal Never Give Up are a phenomenal team with outstanding synergy who have a lot more experience internationally, although they may not come first all of the time they certainly do have a strong match history coming 1st in the 2016 summer and spring split, showing that even under pressure they are able to come out on top. They will be tried and tested during this tournament but they’ll need to show dominance here against Splyce if they want to push further.

Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoLSplyce are currently improving at a rapid rate, from coming 8th in the 2016 Spring Split to coming 2nd in both the LCS summer split and playoffs, they have shown great dedication and good teamwork in all of their more recent games which is what earned them their ticket to the World Championship 2016. They’re going to put up consistent fights and could cause trouble for all of the teams underestimating them and their region.

Royal Never Give Up look to be at an advantage here but Splyce shouldn’t be underestimated. They were playing on a near equal level to the no.1 seed from Europe and are looking to make an impact this year at the 2016 World Championship.

Splyce are going to need to stay as level headed as possible, they’re going to face challenges like RNG often and if they’re looking to come out on top of this game they’re going to need to try and advance more quickly to get ahead of any surprising aggression.

Prediction: Royal Never Give Up Victory. While both teams are excelling and doing extremely well a big thing that puts RNG ahead is that they have a lot more international experience, having a lot more games played on an international level gives RNG a broader idea of what to expect. SPY are a strong team who have recently been very consistent but regardless of their current strength I don’t think it’s enough to overcome RNG.

H2K Gaming vs. INTZ - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #5: Team H2k Logo - LoL Worlds H2K Gaming vs. Team Intz Logo - LoL Worlds INTZ e-Sports

Start Time: September 30th, 08:00 PM PDT / 11:00 PM EDT / 05:00 CEST (next day)

Currently H2K seem to be on a downwards spiral coming 3rd in the 2016 Summer Playoffs and 4th in the Split possibly causing low moral while INTZ makes a show by winning the 2016 Wildcard Qualifiers which has them ecstatic to get on the stage and play, tension runs high for both fans and players as there’s a lot on the line in every single game played during the group stage of the 2016 World Championship.

H2K Gaming EU LCS Team Logo LoLH2K Gaming With their recent 3rd placement in the Summer Playoffs i think H2K are on the lookout for a victory, with a strong match history and many games played they are familiar with what it’s like to be in the heat, there a strong team who are familiar with each other’s play style; meaning when given a lead they know how to keep it. Their more recent game history may be against them but with a significant amount of passion and drive they could pull this off.

Team INTZ e-Sports Logo - LoL WorldsINTZ, a Wildcard Qualifier we are all anticipating the clash between them and H2K, while H2K are currently on a loss streak it seems the INTZ, the wildcard team, are consistent with their placements recently coming 1st in the CBLoL 2016 Stage 2 playoffs. I think we can expect some good things from them coming into Worlds but if WildCard history is going to repeat then they’re likely to be in all sorts of trouble.

Even though H2k appear to have a weaker match history than INTZ, I believe H2k are in an advantageous position for this match. Wild Card teams are notorious for having serious issues on the World Championship stage and they’ve rarely been able to take single games from their opponents. Few WildCard teams have had an impact but those that have made them significant, INTZ might be able to push further than any WildCard team before them.

Prediction: H2k Victory. H2k are fairly lucky with this match-up, after running into a lot of trouble as the season was coming to an end H2k were lucky to make it to the World Championship. If things were just slightly out of favour for them then they’d have lost this opportunity. With expected masses of practice having been made I think H2k will be able to surpass the skill of the WildCard teams, this will be their opportunity to prove it.

Edward Gaming vs. ahq e-sports - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #6: Team Edward Gaming Logo - LoL Worlds Edward Gaming vs. Team AHQ e-sports club Logo - LoL Worlds ahq e-Sports Club

Edward Gaming is the presumed reigning team of this tournament, they’ve got an extremely dominant match history in which they were constantly contesting and regularly taking 1st place in what is considered to be one of the most aggressive regions in the world. AHQ E-Sports have a reliable history and they’ve stayed fairly consistent, they’ve not dropped in skill level but haven’t been able to perform at a top standard. EDG are going to be a huge challenge for them but they’ve got the talent and potential to pull something off in a best of one.

EDward Gaming LPL Team Logo LoLEdward Gaming qualified for the World Championship 2016 after taking control of the LPL Summer Playoffs along with having a dominating Summer Split. They held 2nd place consistently at the beginning of the year and then improved to become the most dominant team in the region by far. They’re heading into this tournament with a lot of expectations, making them a reality will be challenging.

ahq e-Sports Club LMS Team Logo LoLahq e-Sports Club ran into a bit of trouble in their own region, they were unable to push for 1st place because Flash Wolves were regularly shutting them down. AHQ got to push forward in the Regional Playoffs because they never had to face Flash Wolves, this and their skill really pushed them ahead of their opponents. They had dominating victories which I hope will translate to exciting matches at the World Championship.

Edward Gaming look like they’re at quite a significant advantage here, their region is considered stronger and because EDG have had such a dominating split they’re certainly looking favourable. AHQ are going to need to watch out for potential earlier aggression from EDG as an early deficit will spell doom for them.

AHQ are experience on an international level so that shouldn’t be their problem, if they can stay level headed and adapt throughout the game they should be able to stall out until their stronger points. AHQ can handle skirmishes quite well and have shown that their team fighting is more than adequate; if they can hold out they can look to take down an extremely formidable team.

Prediction: Edward Gaming Victory. EDG look to be significantly ahead of a lot of the teams that are performing at the World Championship, AHQ is no exception. A lot more would be taken into account but seeing as AHQ were scraping along throughout the split and were having issues in what is considered to be a weaker region I think EDG could come out on top of this fairly confidently.

 Group Stage #1 – Day 1 – Preview & Predictions

G2 Esports vs. Counter Logic Gaming - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #1: Team G2 esports Logo - LoL Worlds G2 Esports vs. Team CLG Logo - LoL Worlds Counter Logic Gaming

Start Time: September 29th, 04:30 PM PDT / 07:30 PM EDT / 01:30 CEST (next day)

G2 Esports remain a partial mystery, when they earned their place at the Mid-season Invitational they squandered it with a long break and came into the tournament unpractised. G2 this split have been cracking down and are looking to stride through the group stage and into the knockout stage but right from the start they’re facing off with a potentially difficult opponent. Counter Logic Gaming may have ended in 4th this recent split, for both the split and playoffs, but they’ve always practiced hard and improved quickly so they could be more than prepared to take down a few 1st seed teams.

G2 Esports - EU LCS team LogoG2 Esports had a comfortable Summer Split in which they didn’t drop a single series, they did however tie many! They played fairly consistently and were only usually having issues against teams that were in high standings on the ladder. If they’ve stuck to a solid regime and have practiced during their break they should have pretty good odds of getting out of the group stage but challenges wait ahead. They may have dominated the EU LCS for the better part of a year but their lacklustre mid-season invitational performances could be a bit of foreshadowing as to how well they can handle the other regions.

Counter Logic Gaming NA LCS Team Logo LoLCounter Logic Gaming only managed to take 4th in both the split and the playoffs; this is troubling information on its own as they’re representing their region as the no.2 seed. They should be able to hold their own against higher standing teams but in comparison to the no.1 seed from their region their chances aren’t looking so good. Counter Logic Gaming did have a fantastic mid-season invitational though, this is a point of redemption for them because even if they’re not holding up well in their own region they’ve got a vast amount of experience against other regions and this could give them opportunities that they will need.

Counter Logic Gaming are looking like a weaker link here but as I said before, they’ve got a vast amount of experience competing against teams from other regions and have shown that they can perform on a big stage. Both of these reasons can lead you to believe they’ll be more comfortable than G2. G2 are likely to feel more pressure because after their mid-season invitational performances they’re fairly laughable to other regions. The amount of mistakes was paramount and although they’ve improved and reclaimed their top EU position they’re yet to show the world.

G2 Esports are still fairly undefeated and have been for the summer split, yeah they tied a few series’ but they held their own. With their high level of consistency and with hopes that they continued their practice and improvements I think they’re going to show the world some European strength but CLG won’t go down easy. In a best of 1 this match could easily turn and G2 are going to need to watch out for the CLG Aurelion Sol.

Prediction: G2 Esports Victory. Without much to go on regarding both teams recent international performances, and with G2’s being skewed because of their mistakes, coming to a conclusion as to who will come out on top was based on their recent in-region performances along with how well they’re performing whilst boot-camping. G2 Esports have been looking like the more consistent of the 2 performing teams and I think the reason they’re the no.1 seed will show.

ROX Tigers vs. Albus Nox Luna - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #2: Team Rox Tigers Logo - LoL Worlds ROX Tigers vs. Team Albus Logo - LoL Worlds Albus Nox Luna

Start Time: September 29th, 05:30 PM PDT / 08:30 PM EDT / 02:30 CEST (next day)

ROX Tigers are looking like the most formidable team in the group, they’ve dominated their region for the majority of the year and is only looking more consistent with Worlds coming up. Albus Nox Luna has had phenomenal performances ever since their formation under ‘Hard Random’ and they’re looking to make a statement here for all Wild Card teams. They’ll be bringing their best for every single performance so look for a few surprises.

ROX Tigers LCK Team Logo LoLROX, previously known as the KOO tigers, are a veteran team with a history of outstanding performances. This is both in their region and on an international level. They’re looking like the team to beat in this group but it’s going to be a challenge to overcome them. They managed to make it all the way to the finals of the 2015 World Championship and this year they’ll be looking to push that even further.

Team Albus Nox Luna Logo - LoL WorldsANX are a Wild Card team and although Wild Card teams have a bad string of performances on the World Championship stage ANX could be looking to change this. They’ve got a phenomenal performance history filled with great standings and victories; if they can translate this into strong performances against teams out of their region then it could be a phenomenal step forward for competitive league of legends.

ROX Tigers are going to be the biggest challenge that ANX face during the group stage and this is their 1st match against them. There will be another one coming up eventually so even if they only use this opportunity to study then they could come out of it with improvements in mind for the remainder of the group stage. This wouldn’t be like ANX though; they’re a tough team filled with passionate players. These players will be diving into the match with everything they’ve got; will it be enough to take down the no.1 Korean team though?

ROX Tigers have taken down world champions; they have conquered regions and have shown on a regular basis why they are one of the favourite teams to make it out of this group. They’re going to show their strength here and test the skill of ANX; we could be in for a few surprises though.

Prediction: ROX Tigers Victory. It would be hard to imagine Albus NoX Luna taking this game away from the ROX Tigers. Not because they’re a Wild Card team but because it’s hard to imagine a handful of teams that can take down the current powerhouse that is the Rox Tigers. They’ve got years of experience and talent brewing under their organisation and I think they’re going to show a bit of domination here.

H2K Gaming vs. ahq e-Sports Club - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #3: Team H2k Logo - LoL Worlds H2K Gaming vs. Team AHQ e-sports club Logo - LoL Worlds ahq e-Sports Club

Start Time: September 29th, 06:30 PM PDT / 09:30 PM EDT / 03:30 CEST (next day)

Both H2K and AHQ are looking like a selection of weaker teams from their respective regions but that’s why this could end up being one of the most exciting matches of the day. H2K made it to the World Championship through circuit points and it was a fairly close call! If they had dropped their series against Unicorns of Love they may have had the gruelling task of working through the regional qualifiers. AHQ certainly had an easier time than them, going into their qualifiers as the 1st seed and withering down their opponents, they’re looking like the more practiced team of the two; should H2K be worried?

Team Logo H2K Gaming EU LCS 2017H2K Gaming have had their ups and downs this split, they went through a rough patch but clawed their way back. They scraped a high enough position to make it into the playoffs where they then scraped enough circuit points to qualify for the World Championship. This is a worrying trend, if they’re just scraping by the how well can they perform against the top regional teams? H2K have always been able to show off some talent when it matters and I think they’ve got something to show us.

ahq e-Sports Club LMS Team Logo LoLahq e-Sports Club certainly looking more comfortable than H2K , AHQ are looking like they could be a tough challenge for H2K right from the start. They’ve not had the easiest time in their own region but claiming a consistent top 3 position shows that they certainly deserve their place at the World Championship. During their 2015 World Championship run they had a few issues but also put on some fantastic performances, I’m expecting the same from them this year.

AHQ look like the slightly stronger team out of the two but in a best of 1 there are many other factors that need to be taken into account. We’ve also got to consider the fact that both teams might not want to show their best strategies during the group stage. This can give a slightly warped sense of who’s stronger but regardless, their strategies don’t change their overall performance.

AHQ do look like the more reliable choice of the two and I think they’re going to show some of their LMS strength during this game. If H2K can hold off during the earlier stages of the game then their chances of coming out on top will increase dramatically but just getting that opportunity could be challenging.

Prediction: AHQ Victory. I think the first encounter between these 2 teams could be fairly close but with how shaky H2K have been I’d give AHQ the advantage. They’ve also got a lot of experience playing against teams from other regions and have previously qualified for a Worlds knockout stage position! The 2nd time they face off could be extremely different though.

INTZ e-Sports vs. Edward Gaming - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #4: Team H2k Logo - LoL Worlds INTZ e-Sports vs. Team Edward Gaming Logo - LoL Worlds Edward Gaming

Start Time: September 29th, 07:30 PM PDT / 10:30 PM EDT / 04:30 CEST (next day)

INTZ are running into trouble on their 1st day during the group stage. EDG are the one of the favourite teams to come out on top of this group and INTZ are widely considered a weaker team. INTZ made their way to the World Championship through the International WildCard Tournament whereas EDG punched their ticket by reigning over their region. There are quite a few contrasts between these 2 teams and EDG are looking favourable but INTZ could show some WildCard surprises.

Team INTZ e-Sports Logo - LoL WorldsINTZ are a fairly consistent and strong wild card team originating from Brazil, their region may be considered minor but INTZ intend to make an impact during this World Championship and even if things go badly they’ll take what they’ve learned back to their region to thrive in years to come. INTZ shouldn’t be underestimated, no team should, because they’re technically a world class team and that’s how they earned their place here.

EDward Gaming LPL Team Logo LoLEdward Gaming, apowerhouse in their own region and a team feared by many, EDG have worked through their region consistently and have ended at the top more often than not. They’ve shown that they’ve got phenomenal team fighting and great use of the map; if they’re preparing for the Worlds patch they should be able to utilize some earlier aggression too! They could go on to prove that their region, as a whole, is steps ahead and ready for new challengers.

EDG definitely look to be at an advantage here. They’ve got a stronger performing region, a stronger track record and even a more convincing mastery of their strategies. INTZ are looking like a fantastic Wild Card team but how well can they perform against a major region team?

INTZ are kicking off their World Championship tournament with a difficult opponent and if it starts going badly they should take note of their opponents, this could give them a quick learning tool to adapt or even to take into their other upcoming games.

Prediction: Edward Gaming Victory. EDG are looking to be a top contender this world championship, at least that’s what’s coming across from their practice and most recent performances. INTZ are looking like a fantastic wild card team but with such a huge skill difference between their regions it’d be a surprise if INTZ can push EDG down.

Samsung vs. Splyce - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #5: Team Samsung Logo - LoL Worlds Samsung vs. Team Splyce Logo - LoL Worlds Splyce

Samsung were originally a 4th place team in the LCK but as the end of the season came they burst in a potential powerhouse and took down one of the favourite teams to take away their 2016 LCK Regional Qualifiers Tournament along with their ticket to Worlds. This is partially contrasted by Splyce who have been a relatively strong European team for the majority of the split however they didn’t qualify through the playoffs or Championship points; they also had to fight their way through their local Regional Qualifiers tournament to take their place. Is there really much difference between these 2 teams?

Samsung Galaxy LCK Team Logo LoLSamsung were certainly a strong team in their region for the majority of the year and regularly placed 4th however when push came to shove they managed to overcome great odds and they took down KT Rolster. KT Rolster were definitely the favourites to win but after a gruelling 5 game series SSG managed to show their strength and resolve in game 5 to prove that they are deserving of this opportunity.

Splyce EU LCS Team Logo LoLSplyce were a constant European powerhouse team and, although it didn’t seem like it throughout the split, they were extremely difficult for their opponents to take down. Throughout the split they only lost 3 series’ with the remaining ones being tied or won. Heading into the playoffs they push into the finals but fell to G2 in an upsetting fashion, they quickly came back through the regional qualifiers and had proven that they are a definite no.2 team from this region regardless of being the no.3 seed.

With more information slowly spreading about these teams it would appear that SSG might be at an advantage here but without more comparative information it’s a tough call to make. Splyce looked good throughout the European summer split but with everything being determined through a best-of-2 style the results can seem a bit skewed. Samsung on the other hand managed to win 67% of their games throughout the split, which is a higher win percentage than Splyce, in what is arguably a much stronger series.

With a higher average winrate, good consistency and phenomenal team fighting this first game looks to be in SSG’s favour bit things could quickly turn as the group stages continues.

Prediction: Samsung Galaxy Victory. With a higher average win percentage, a strong line-up and a matching consistency it looks like SSG are at an advantage here. SSG practiced in what’s considered to be the strongest region in the world and have experience in many ways that Splyce don’t. With many factors pushing them ahead I think SSG will take this first game but they’ll need to be careful later on.

Team SoloMid vs. Royal Never Give Up - League of Legends World Championship 2016Match #6: Team SoloMid Logo - LoL Worlds Team SoloMid vs. Team RNG Logo - LoL Worlds Royal Never Give Up

Team SoloMid is the North American powerhouse team who have entered this World Championship with a stronger line-up than ever before. They’ve had some fantastic performances in the past against international teams but this is their chance to shine. Royal Never Give Up was a constant top place contender in their region and although they’re not as experienced with international match-ups they’re quick at adapting. Will it be enough though?

Team SoloMid NA LCS Logo LoLTeam SoloMid are the undoubted current top team in their region, they dominated their local league of legends scene and made the majority of it look easy. Some matches came as a challenge but they always found out a way to come out on top, minus the rise of the Phoenix. Being such a substantial amount ahead of other competing teams in their region calculating their strength against international teams can be difficult but they’re certainly a powerhouse.

Royal Never Give Up LPL Team Logo LoLRoyal Never Give Up were a constant top contender in their region and although things slipped away from them at the end they were a constant threat for that top position. RNG have experience against International teams, however it is slightly lacking, and with the ability to adapt quickly they’ll stand great chances. They’re standing off with a fairly difficult match-up but overcoming TSM will only be as hard as overcoming EDG.

Team Solo Mid look to be at an advantage here, at least as far as numbers are concerned. They destroyed their own region and it looks as if they’re on a higher level than a lot of other performing teams. This can be a skewed opinions because we’ve only seen them play against teams they were capable of beating but what happens when they go against a team as good as, or even stronger than, them.

Royal Never Give Up will be fairly comfortable in this match-up; I think they’ve had enough high pressure games to understand that they can’t brute force their way through this game. They’ll need to adapt as the match plays out and being such a high calibre team means they have great chances to come out on top, are the currently capable of it though?

Prediction: Team Solo Mid Victory. With a phenomenal amount of international practice under their belt, from their history and their recent practices, I think Team Solo Mid is the more likely team to come out on top here. They’ve rarely been challenged in their own region and now they’re finally going to have the opportunity to showcase how strong they really are.
