Dota 2 spring roster changes for the Spring Major and TI6

Dota 2 LogoThis was an interesting week if you are a follower of the Dota 2 competitive scene. Teams had to lock their roster by March 27, and it ended up being one of the major shuffles we have ever seen. We already knew Chinese teams were going to have a big shuffle due to their poor performance in Shanghai, and they lived up to our expectations. However, NA and CiS were a big shock to us.

Short time ago, Valve established new parameters for teams to be able to participate in their tournaments. The most important aspect was setting a timeline for rosters to determine their players. Teams had to set their rosters before the 27th of March to be able to participate in the Manila Major and the most important tournament of the year, The International 2016. These new parameters were introduced to help roster stability since teams used to shift just before the big tournament took place. Specially for Dota 2 betting fans this was a big problem as most matches were pretty unpredictable to all the short roster changes.  It now seems that this fix was worse than the problem itself.

Players found themselves without team just hours before the deadline and everything turned into chaos. This has led many people to think that these parameters need to change in a way to prevent this type of situation from happening again.

Just to summarize, the most shocking changes came from the team Evil Geniuses. The team that was considered the most successful and stable lost two of their players: Universe and Arteezy. The most shocking was the departure of their offlaner who had been playing for the team since 2012. They both will be playing now for their major rivals, Team Secret. This has turned into a lot of drama about how Puppey seems to have improved his team while destroying the competition.

To fix this situation, captain PPD had to bring Aui_2000 once again, which led to his previous team Digital Chaos to look for new prospects before the deadline. In the end, they took the players that were kicked from Secret to give space to Universe and Arteezy: w33ha and Misery.

Now we’re looking at a completely new competitive scene that won’t change until we see the next champion take home the 6th Aegis.
